install of a Silent Hektik electronic ignition system on a BMW R90/6 airhead. Silent Hektik is the German brand name. It is a crank driven ignition system.
Heiko, I have another question about installing the "pickup sensor and rotor" on the crankshaft (you didn't describe that). Does the engine have to be set to TDC (OT in german) first and then ? And which finger of the rotor has to be above the pickup?
Yeah, I missed a couple of things in that video. The instructions that come with that silenthektik setup are actually pretty good. They ask you to put the right cylinder in OT and put one specific finger on that rotor over the sensor and that is a very precise starting point after that I just ran it with the timing light and made very small adjustments to get the basic timing set. Once it is on the bike it is very easy to run right. The advanced curve gets set with a little selector. You also have a rev limiter. The best part is that all the wiring for the points ignition can stay in place. I didn't remove the points, I just removed the advance unit to keep the wear down. On the side of the road I could switch back to the old ignition within five minutes.
high thnx for sharing I am installing right now the same system I see Your using , like me, the original coils , but what connection diagram did you use ? neither one of the diagrams does fit the situation shown in the diagrams that came with the aticle Made a design for installing but not sure is it right that you are using only 4 wires to install the device?
sorry I didn't see your comment. Since your original coils are wired in series they are hook up to the silent hektik as if they were one of those dual coils. so, just one positive wire and one ground coming from the silentH, keep the little jumper between the two coils in place.

@@HeikosGarage thnx!
Good honest documentation - thank you very much. Can you please tell us the exact type of strobe lamp? Does it also show the RPM at the same time?
I bought this one: www.innova.com/products/pro-digital-timing-light-5568a
The timing light is the Eier-Legende-Woll-Milch-Sau in German.
@@HeikosGarage Thx a lot
It looks great but where did you get it?
I ordered it through a German vendor www.BMWbayer.de shipping wasn't to bad either.
