"This car poops in a bag and leaves it at the door of BMW 3-series owners." - That is unbridled Shakespearian poetry if I've ever heard it.
Your intellectualism and word choice originality baffles me, sir.

Stinger: selling horribly
Volkswagen: we NEED to develop a competitor for this!!
ECN That’s my name Kia Stinger selling horribly = their used car will be cheap even the GT2
That’s good for our broke fellas
@@Happytylermovieproducction lowest I’ve seen a GT stinger that is worth buying is 29k
Don't see it as a true competitor really. One is a purpose built, proper longitudinally mounted drivetrain sport sedan with a V6.. The other is a restyled Passat, with a run of the mill transverse FWD layout and a 4 banger....
@@Happytylermovieproducction definitely not, I’m planning to get this as my first car in a couple months
That KIA 'gotta tell everyone' bit at the beginning would be definitely relatable until they released Telluride. After the release of Stinger and Telluride, KIA is making a big splash in a very very saturated market. Also after seeing the K5 Optima renders, I'm speechless. I hope KIA fixes their dealerships and gives the post purchase experience to match the competition.
Davy K The 21 Optima reminds me a lot of a Lincoln MKZ.
SouthSide WhiteBhoy ewww very ugly you should get a Volvo
yonda ila umm no
Amen. Love my Stinger GT
The dealers are so bad and the main thing holding KIA/Hyundai back.
I'm shocked that there aren't more Stingers on the road. I do believe that $50k is a bit much for a Kia sedan. As nice as the car is, it's serious money with lots of competition. Kia really needs to overdeliver until the stigma of the badge goes away. And I just wouldn't want to have to deal with a Kia dealership. But there is no denying that this car is absolutely fantastic.
It is much. Should be under $40.000 would sell more too.
@@mr.2cents.846a bmw with the same equipment is like 80-90k
@@mr.2cents.846 I disagree. They would be losing money, they actually give you so much for a lot less than the competition. Arteon isn't is trash, overpriced and slow
Hyundai should change its name to genesis. Kia should change its name to stinger. Toyota should change its name to Lexus. Plus the Camry Corolla and Prius civic accord etc need name changes. And not letters and numbers, actual names.
Typical person commenting on car vs car videos: "This car is better, I don't own it, I don't own the other car either, but the fact that I like one more than the other makes it better"
after you are old enough to have paid off your first car you will develop something called "common sense."
so when you see a 50,000$ volkswagen that is slower than a camry, it's Ok to raise an eyebrow.
@@potatochobit Yes well said !!! I would rather purchase a CPO LEXUS BMW MB etc....
@@potatochobit Its a stupid comparison, as the Arteon is more competition for a base Stinger. A base Arteon is $37K are compares favorably to a Kia Stinger GT-line Sun+Sound model for $36K.
@@potatochobit it will fall apart before you have time to pay it off. In here in the US it’s very hard to find a good German car mechanic Plus those parts $$$$$ a lot of the times it’s cheaper to buy a new car and then fix something really stupid especially with BMWs and German cars in general. Drove both.. bought the stinger.. instant classic.. love my decision and love driving it.. awesome car..
I did not drive the Kia stinger when I bought my Arteon but I have a friend who got a GT2 stinger and really likes it, I just got the VW because it was just a little bit more comfortable and the digital display both for the gauge cluster and infotainment are really intuitive and really nice and have aged well.
If the ARTEON came with the VW/AUDI based 2.5L 5CYL(the upper TRIM) that's in the RS3 or TT/RS... WOOOOO!! THAT WOULD BE WORTH IT
Yeah TTRS drivetrain would be awesome for this chassis
Yes. I love the 2.0 TSI (edited from 'EA888' for clarity - though I do believe that is what's in here), but I feel like it doesn't belong in a car of this size and price. Sure, it's a comfort/touring car, but it's begging for more hp/tq (well, potential buyers would be for sure).
Edit: Also, I don't really get why they'd go with a detuned or smaller turbo on this flagship. This is a boat, it should at least have the Golf R numbers.
Any car with that legendary engine would be a good buy
@@elikinzie23throw it in a kia soul
I think a 3.0T from audi a6 tuned to around 350 hp would be abetter fit, but if that was the case, y buy pay more for an audi...i see y they kept the 2.0T. I have driven the arteon and for me personally, it did feel underpowered
Had a Stinger GT in New Zealand for a week and I was very impressed with it. Great comfort, easy to drive, great adaptive cruise control, lane assist, android/apple thing and lot of space with high quality interior. One thing I didn't like was the economy (it just gulps petrol and requires 95) and noise above 115km/h which really surprised me. Otherwise a wonderful car to live with.

I’m driving one right now while my Passat is in the shop. I told the service tech that was a clever little plan to get me to just buy the Arteon. He laughed.
I work for Volks and when we first received the arteon and I popped the hood, I was let down.. with the amount of space the engine bay has, it could easily fit a 3.6l VR6. Now that would be true commitment to its predecessor

How did VW start?
Oh, Hitler started them loool
...so?
That’s why he said a great history
@@FumeAbuse mhm
A simple Google search will show he did not.
He did not just help create the company, he actually sketched the Beetle himself working with Porsche…
But then the war came and then it was over… the VW plant was in the British sector and in the basement of the bomb damaged factory were enough parts to do a production run of cars. The British army supervised the manufacture and German workers who needed jobs and food to eat built the cars and they sold them, using the money to buy the next round of parts and lineally financed the restart of the company this way… and step by step built VW into the powerhouse it is today…
So yes the beginnings were totally ties to Hitler and the Nazi Party but the rebirth has in very real terms been a German Success story with the initial help from and by the British Army, very entrepreneurial and old fashioned hard work…
Spoiler alert… I am a JEW… My family lost dozens to the theft and murder of the Holocaust. My Grandfather refused to buy a German car after the war and for the balance of his life.. but Germany today is not Germany of yesterday, Germany has basically donated a fleet of Dolphin Submarines to the State of Israel which are Israels secure second strike capability that effectively guarantees the survival of the Jewish State… My Mother - who was nine years old when the Nazis marched into her home town owns a Volkswagen… I own a Mercedes… Germany today is NOT Germany of yesterday… and neither is Volkswagen. Its beginnings are not its present or its future… If MY Mother can own and drive a VW… well then everyone can get past how the company was founded and by whom…

The disadvantages of the platform can be clearly seen on the luxury class VW "Arteon":
The Arteon is actually a car made from the Passat and Golf. VW-MQB platform, Modular-Querbau box of a compact car. This also means transverse instead of longitudinally installed engines and 4 cylinders is already over.

The Arteon is a nice looking car, for the most part... But that flat semicircle around the wheel wells? DO NOT LIKE.
Here in America, as a Kia Motors U.S. salesman, the Stinger GT2 is what James is driving. The color is called Ceramic Silver. The wheels are styled different than the ones we have here, and we don’t offer 19 inch wheels. Everything else is about the same actually, but it’s very cool to see the differences among the two countries and what they offer.

To avoid damaging your wheels and blowing out tires going over potholes, you must inflate the tires to 36 or 38 pounds. I find that these configurations handled the potholes much better and you almost never damage the tire or the wheels

Still much better than VW owners "If you don't love my car, you must be a jealous loser!"
Former Forte SX and current GLI driver. What once was a genuine sentiment of pride in the quality and certainly *value* of Korean-made autos has taken off exponentially since the relative success (especially with enthusiasts) of the Stinger, Veloster N, etc.

Great review, good interplay with good humor--fascinating for me because I drive a car that's really right between these two. My 2007 Hyundai Azera has punch (for it's day, 263hp), but also all of the room and comfort of the Arteon. Not a hatch, but a huge trunk with fold down seats. High reliability--still concerned about VW electricals. Both cars look better than the Azera, but that's the march of time. And the 13 speaker 600-watt Infiniti isn't bad either. I expect to look into the 2.4 Stinger at some point--after I've put yet another 100k on the Azera. Daughter has a 2012 Kia Soul with 170k on it now, it's been humming since new. Would be! But price for price a Scat Pack would eat this thing in performance and price.

The front end of the VW looks better, but overall the Stinger does look better. I'd take the Stinger for sure, nothing against the VW.
DazdnConfuzd I was thinking of something similar. I really like elements of both, like the front of the VW, which also emphasizes how bad the front of the stinger looks (and those dumb side marker stripes on the taillights). The opening sketch is so hilarious. I miss these guys but they're staying safe in Canada. About the Stinger, I think I prefer this interior design to the Telluride/2021 Optima. They both have wonderful interiors but I think if they deleted the faux stitching and faux wood, as well as both are implemented, those two would be even more premium looking. The Stinger doesn't have that and looks fine without it. I l really like the Stinger's interior and hope they don't add faux wood, or even real wood, when it is redesigned.
There's no wood in the new one, and I like it.
This needs an update. The additional 32hp and DSG make a world of difference. I also found the drive modes on the new Arteon make a big difference in how it drives. While less sporty than the Stinger, the 2022 revisions gave the Arteon a real dose of sportiness.
Backed 100%. As a big VW nerd I have driven a 2023 Arteon and it put my ass in the seat real quick, noticeably quicker than the outgoing automatic
The stinger had one last update too and its got a new infotainment system, bigger screen and its faster, which was the only issue with the stinger, they also got rid of the 4 cylinder and diesel versions, its also significantly cheaper now and you can get a used one for around 20k. In my opinion a superior car to the Passat reskin
Engineering Explained had the same wheel issue with his Tesla Model 3! The large wheel and low profile tire couldn't handle the pothole.
"I'll take a A. Lange & Söhne" Oooo fancy.
I like the work you do but if I could make a request it would be to see more station wagons.
I love these guys!! They are so much fun!
I love the GT2 trim of the Stinger
i think you guys missed something important on the Arteon. If you go into settings, you can set a custom mode for the dynamic chassis control. There are several stops tighter then the custom mode. It does make a difference.
What?! That makes a world of a difference. I HIGHLY value my 13 Jetta bc of the control it has over the road. Handles even better, now that I built and installed some custom Bilstein struts 😊👌🏾
Yall are talented. Lol definitely needed to subscribe.
So glad they added the extra 32 hp in the Arteon. It's beautiful, roomy and I love it.
Another great review by the dynamic duo! I thought the Stinger would come out ahead but now I am very curious about the Arteon. I usually find my tastes more in alignment with James versus Thomas, so without driving them I guess I would choose the Arteon. Fantastic job guys, another great review!
Okay......but you know that they both chose the KIA.....right?
Awesome video! Subbed
I’m looking forward to getting a Kia stinger in the future!
Test drive a Stinger (a nice car) then go drive an Alfa Romeo Giulia (fall in love)
David Perri my uncle actually did and got the stinger. Couldn’t turn down a 2020 GT1 for 38k out the door.
@@davidperri8862 VW don’t have the Horse Power, hp is what counts not something under power
You guys are AWESOME!
The beginning is absolutely the best intro
The stinger's red interior looks absolutely sublime.
I'm getting some Old Top Gear U.K vibes. I love it. (Especially at the 1:12 area)
Great review guys 👍
This Kia with the new k5 front would be awesome. I think the stinger needs a more agresive front. vw repeats the same formula in theirs designs... Nothing new but .. it really works. Arteon looks amazing !
