Not always. In Australia for example the R line is the performance version and there is no R. You bump up the horsepower by 40ish by going with the R line and get launch control. Car names are confusing and inconsistent haha

Just got an Arteon, absolutely love it because no one else has them and they look beautiful. Some turbo lag off the line but I do play with the settings a lot. Find it to be pretty brisk on the highway but it's nothing crazy. What I love the most is that it is classic VW, understated German design that ages well and has rock solid build quality.

I own both a KIA (Sorento) and a VW (GTI). I love them both so there's no brand bias here in a choice between the Arteon and the Stinger. I've driven both vehicles and if I were choosing between the turbo4 engines in each, I'd opt for the Arteon without question. Comparing the Arteon to the higher spec 3.3L V6 in the Stinger and the choice is more difficult. I think Mr. Biermann and his colleagues at Hyundai/KIA have done a remarkable job of building an American-ized version of a European GT sedan at a reasonable price. But I think the differences between the Stinger and the Arteon highlight the different perspectives of Americans (both north and south of the Canadian border) and Europeans in terms of what "performance" means.
There's a reason that Americans invented drag racing while Europeans invented rallies. Road racing in America often means circling high banked ovals in stadiums while Europeans think of road racing on public roads or tracks designed to emulate them. For Americans "performance" often begins and ends with straight line acceleration to 60 mph and quarter mile times. For Europeans "performance" in a GT sedan often means traveling in comfort at 100 mph+ on superbly maintained highways or threading roads often laid down originally by the Romans two millennia ago.
VW has a history of trying to interest Americans in the Euro-spec vehicles with almost no success. Americans want larger, cheaper VW's than Europeans. The Arteon represents still another effort along that line. (One exception for the Arteon. The North American version uses a conventional 8 speed transmission while the Euro version has a DCT.) I have no doubt that more Americans will choose the Stinger over the VW. But for those who value a true European GT driving experience with accommodations for four the Arteon outpoints the Stinger.

I agree with most of what you said but this car miserably fails the sales even in Europe. This is unlike Golf R a big car for 4motion to handle. If they threw the same awd in Toureg could be amazing but yeah thats basically stepping on Audi’s toes. And the haldex based 4wds suck so bad. Its no brainer why people go for stinger in USA. Its a real GT unlike this piece of crap. In my opinion this is just another niche model, which will be discontinued just like scirocco.

So I'm planning on tuning mine as well, I just crossed the 40,000 mile marker but you have to watch the transmission because it's an 8-speed aisin not the dsg thats ok with more power. so it can't take any more than 330 ft lb of torque (at least that's what the manual for it said when I read it) and I know the APR stage one tune (and a ton of others) goes well above that... Just something to look out for....I found ABT will tune it right before the limit of the transmission so thats what Im gunna get....

If you want to be a menace to other drivers, get a GTI or a Golf R. Huge kudos go to Volkswagen for not just making another SUV. The only thing that would make these genuinely better would be to actually have them at the VW dealerships. It's 2023 now, and you still can't find them.

Custom settings? I like to put everything into sport except the "bounce" level of the suspension if you can or leave the suspension at comfort or normal. Makes the steering a bit heavier, performance better, body roll, etc, while still not feeling like your kidneys will fall out on the ice heaves and potholes.

Just this week, VW offered me to swap my GT (Passat) for an Arteon. Unfortunately, even with all the promos and discount, I’m too early in my lease for it to be worth it (penalty too high and nullifies part of promos).

Using Forscan with an ODBII connection, you can enable the Lincoln features that allow you to customize the steering and suspension modes independently of the main "sport mode". Now in the summer I keep the suspension and steering in sport mode and it makes the car 1000% better (you should re-do your review with that enabled). In the winter I drop them down to "normal", which is still higher than Ford's default (comfort).

@@chocolatewheelchair The "void the warranty" comment is made often but it represents a misunderstanding of reality. In fact, the warranty is voided only if a modification can be shown to directly result in a component failure. That won't necessarily result in a fix under warranty but numerous court cases support that interpretation. Furthermore, many VW dealers (including mine) actually offer tuning services and honor warranty claims without question. Finally, tuning companies such as APR offer low cost warranties that mimic the full factory warranty protection.

I have a 2014 vw passat vr6 (USA) that I put coilovers and polyurethane bushings and put an exhaust on. All for less than 11k. I have some rotif wheels and pirellis for the summer, rn I have winters on. The coilovers and bushings completely transform the car if you want a "Sporty sedan" on a cheap. I mean I truly can floor it through corners and have the back end kick out with the front wheels going wild but being really manageable at the same time. The sound is unbeatable in a six cylinder in my opinion.
In terms of fwd I feel that people have a bad opinion of it because they haven't done the proper modifications to get rid of the front wheel drive wheel hop. Also people wanna be able to floor it no matter rain or snow, but that's not the case with fwd or rwd, you need to apply the power over time and concentrate on how you manage braking and putting the power down, but it makes it really fun. With good tires and a nice suspension setup your car can be really manageable in the rain even without awd. I clocked a 0-60 of 5.5 in the dry multiple times after the few suspension mods.

I’ve seen them selling for as low as 32k (USD) with more than enough features to satisfy me. But, if I could afford to buy any car right now, it would have to be the Audi S5! It’s a sportback just like both of these cars and it’s got excellent performance. Maybe one day!
