Keith - I've followed you for close to a decade now (ever since your Pillars of Creation clip video). You've evolved on every level as a musician, and seem to be just as humble as you were back then. A true inspiration for us fellow metalheads and musicians alike. Keep it metal man \m/
Damn, that's insane. I don't feel deserving of being included with names like that, but I definitely appreciate it. Those guys are big influences for me as well. Especially Kirk.
I would just like to point out, that Keith Merrow is by far, my favourite musician... ever! Your attention to good rhythm and riffs have yet to be matched, good sir! Never stop feeding your love of playing guitar. I look forward to anything you're involved in. Also, I'm SO glad to hear REAL drums on your actual work. I love your music because it's so rhythm-based and LOVE to play the drum patterns you programmed... speaking of which, Hats off to Krimh, as well, you delivered so well that heavy punch in the face and chest that Keith Merrows music deserves. Outstanding job guys! STAY METAL!!
My god, I just get on here because I just wanted to see what Keith has been up to these days, then I see that there's a new album, and then I listen to it... And alas, I am again, sitting here wondering why my riffs are nowhere near as kick ass as this. Absolutely amazing stuff man! As always!
I must commend this work here, I love the peak-era Opeth flavors like on Pythoness, and there is too much variety besides to pigeonhole the sound. It never feels like it needs vocals.
Ok Keith. I purchased it due to the fact that I want you to keep hammering out amazing music. Thank you, and I'll give it a solid listen soon with no doubt that it's amazing from start to finish.
Heart Of The Sea Nymph is one of the best pieces of pure metal of all times. It's literally the 7 strings guitar Anthem. Even if I have to admit that I prefer the solo of the original version, but Jeff did an awesome job on the solo as always. Great album, and Keith is an awesome musician.
I'm late to the party, but maaaannnnn!. What a fucking killer album!. From start to finish, a masterpiece. I bought the album on Saturday and can't stop listening to it. My favourite track is Braving the Dunes, then the way it goes into The Miser with that Jazzy intro. You've already changed the way I look at writing for guitar. BTW, the bit in the intro, where it goes slightly overdriven, is that the PAF voicing in your pickups?.
This is just the best album I have ever heard, I really hope Keith does not get discouraged for the "low" impact it has compared to others. Keith, you changed my way to see music. This album will be probably noticed in future, people are not ready for this right now ahah I love the huge influences by classical music, I heard a lot of moonlight sonata by Beethoven into the wastrel, I can give you exactly the moment if u want!
honestly, its been almost 2 weeks what I've listened to was JUST THIS ALBUM ...something that even I can't explain how great it is ... heavy, beautiful that takes you to the deepest point of darkness,,, somewhere out of NOWHERE ... FUCK ... specially Pythoness ... album artwork is sick as well ... HANDS DOWN SIR
The guitar tone and the songs you put together are without a pair in this world mate... This stuff literally cures cancer... I hope you are well and you will keep these awesome albums coming :)
Keith, been following you since the Agile 7 string reviews many years ago. Whoever mixed this silenced (in my opinion) your best lead over the first section of Braving the Dunes. I’ve spent some time trying to find that song. I remember that that riff was introduced with a video where you were showing off a stained brown guitar built for you, that has since been deleted. Love your stuff, and really love this release, but man.. imo that lead over that VERY creative rhythm was my favourite thing you’ve ever done and this release does it no justice. Love everything else from this but maaaan, please do everyone a favour and let your best work shine.
Its official I need to upgrade to a 7 string." Keith" your work is without a doubt inspiring, not only to me but to my fingers. 🤘🤘🔥🔥 keep up the great work.
Hey man, just thought I'd pop by and quickly put my two pence worth in. I am not trying to be offensive. Not sure if it's an "upgrade"... I think really.. to be honest, it's like being able to play Bass and Guitar, you can play both and others. Look at John Paul John, ex Zeppelin... guy can play a ton of Instruments. Same goes for the average Musician and Player. Like me, I play an Electric 4-String Bass, Electric 6-string Guitar...also, standard Acoustic Guitar.. but also Piano.. Nothing stops you from playing 6-8 String Electric Guitars... you only have to look at Black Metal and so on, to see Musicians playing multiple instruments and same here with Keith. All I believe, is that there's no such thing as an 'upgrade' in Guitars or other Instruments. Again, that's just my opinion of course and if you want or feel the compulsion to buy extended range Instruments.. that's cool, but I just hope you don't take it that more strings, means somehow.. there's more talent.... I mean, would you say a Violin Player, that does solos for instance, is more talented than a Drummer, in the said same Orchestra, who holds in together and without it... the Orchestra would fail to work.. But hey, that's just my thought... what the hell do I know. Anyways... I hope you enjoy your Guitar... but before you do.. or don't spend at-least, $400 for a decent Extended Range Guitar... you should take time to think about it, listen to other players... but most importantly... try out a few different 7 and if you must, 8 string Guitars... see if you can cope with the extra Strings... wider Neck, etc. I recommend, trying out Schecter and Ibanez Models... I, again, am not trying to be offensive or whatever... just a Guy who's played Instruments for 20 Years, trying to help out... which I hope I have. Anyways, I wish you all the best. Regards, Kristian Simpson.
Just put bigger gauge strings on and tune your 6 string lower. Plenty of people do that. Look at Periphery, they use 6 strings and they play some shit in drop G.

Man, your songwriting and arrangment skills are amazing, and you are highly original, not to say unique. Who listened to Heart of the Sea Nymph close to a decade ago? Great album, Mr. Merrow!
Thanks! Crazy to think, but that song was originally written around 2005ish. It was fun to revisit it.
I do!I did a cover too,and probably do another one on this take.still overwhelemed on that last riff.
Conquering Dystopia times as well, some of my best memories were with their songs as the background music and that one too xD
still prefer and hear the Jeff Loomis solo in my head every time, but side by side comparison, this new version has much better and darker tone
To hear that and braving the dunes with REAL drums and a badass drummer is awesome!
