It’s not even like they are an actual vanguard either. A vanguard are the first people to go in and do stuff and they didn’t do anything until the end.
I miss when you could beat the campaign of a WWII Call of Duty game, see the message "This game is dedicated to the brave men that fought in the Second World War" and legitimately feel good
They can't say that because it would be a disgrace and downright disrespect to the genuine people who fought in that miserable war, because of the game's grotesque Hollywoodization and outright false depictions of the war.
@@friendofp.24 so you’re telling me that the Russians were able capture Stalingrad because of the millions of people that lost their lives fighting and not because a female sniper really disliked nazis?
Is that really what you got for Vanguard @@ItsDatGuy969? Is that what you thought it was trying to say? I don’t care much for the game either but that’s a stretch. I think you have other issues that are bigger than the game. Lol
I’m just waiting for the “i miss vanguard “ some of my best moments were playing vanguard with my friends” . Then seeing the comment get a bunch of likes and then the cycle continues
The most DECENT (not good) thing about this game is that you can customize the match settings to where it plays just like classic COD games, enter 6v6 hardcore/veteran bots, and play it like it’s an OG cod. A fair amount of the MP maps work very well with basic 6v6, and the bots don’t camp or slide everywhere like they’re on cocaine. It’s the most fun I’ve been able to squeeze out if this game, but it’s nowhere near as fun as.. any actual GOOD cod game lol
I took a bullet for the boys, bought this game, and told them don't waste your money. Even today I can't see myself ever playing it again. It was that bad.
Battlefield 1 did the multiple stories thing SO much better. I know that game was WW1, but it was miles better at telling multiple short stories in lesser known conflicts.
What's interesting...if they wanted to talk about untold or undertold battles and events here's a rough idea (not a WW2 nerd) - The Siege of Singapore - The Long March - Iwo Jima/ Island Jumping - The Razing of Tokyo/Kyoto - Battle of the Bulge (German perspective) - Battle of Leningrad - Raj's counter offense - The Battle of Papua New Quinea - German Encircled in Koninesberg/Memel Post more if you can think of any Edit: Thank you all for contributing
@anthony DiPietro true if they already done that. Let the player experience the Long March the Japanese did to PoWs or play as a Civilian during the Bombings of Tokoyo/Kyoto, or if only doing Europe...of Dresden, Hamburg, pr Frankfurt. There are stories of people trying to find children, but only found puddles
Something I wanna say: Irl, the British officer who served with the Australians had grown up in Australia, which inspired him to join the military, had nothing but good things to say about the Australian unit, and visited the surviving members of the Australian units he served with after the war. Far cry from how they're portrayed here
a game nobody wanted, made by people that didn't want to make it, sold with a 17 plus age rating to it's fans whom are almost all under the age of 17. Yeah. Sounds like the recipe for success
A lot of Vanguard's shortcomings can be explained with one word: Warzone. The reason Vanguard feels so lifeless and drab, as well as the horribly out-of-place weapons as cosmetics, was that it was used as a vehicle and excuse to add both WW2 and new, wacky content to Warzone. Adding Godzilla and Snoop Dogg to a WW2 game sounds stupid, but adding them in a BR? Sure, why not? Because of Activision's inability to let go of Warzone, Vanguard suffered.
@@honestgame9997 I hate that warzone is like a parasite on every cod game. Its cool on its own but it leeches dev time and money away from MP and zombies, especially post launch.
I was able to get attached to the many mute player characters in cod campaigns more than anyone in vanguard. I care more about Pvt. James Ramirez from MW2 and Frost from MW3 as two examples, because I saw them struggle through intense missions
Gotta love how in the campaign, the black officers in Wade's chapter are the most stereotypical black characters, it's almost comical. They literally talk about how they can't wait to go home and play the saxophone and bet on baseball like bruhh
Exactly. They want to call white people like me racist yet they are creating stereotypical black people with no depth, so its also hypocritical. Activision are the racist ones.
Possibly, although I imagine that's in part because back then, many black men inparticular had far more barriers to enter other occupations. So many turned to sports or music.
It’s being written by modern marvel comic book writers; you know, the company that had a guy draw Miles morales as an asgardian but, with stereotypical “in tha hood” look-like having graffiti be drawn on the Mjnnor?
It’s insane that Activision has all the resources to get all these talented groups of people when it comes to animation, marketing, coding, and cinematography but never when it comes to writing. They hire the most inexperienced, unqualified, and ungrateful people to write for what essentially is a blockbuster and fail miserably to Activision’s surprise. Why Activision has been doing that lately is a greater mystery than the pyramids.
They k ow it'll sell. So why waste time making it good when ppl are gonna buy it? Remember, the 1st priority of any for profit company is TO PROFIT. They're merely cutting development costs.
Cus the customer doesn’t matter anymore, all ESG scores are what matter now. Everything will keep getting more diverse and woke just for the sake of it, and investors will keep funding the companies as the ESG stays high, this is happening in every major corporate body. Don’t have to worry about customer backlash when the investors will keep you afloat, just keep the propaganda and demoralization cranking away
If u know, they have so much history of fecking up with game devs since like, late 90's. Look up SiN. That game has potential, but cuz of publisher time limits, it got released the same way Cyberpunk 2077 was.
They also like writing anti whtie racist stories for some reason. The gaming industry is starting to mimic the movie industry. Its all politically motivated garbage thats half-assed and loses money every time. Doesn't make sense to be honest. The 90's and 2000's were some of the greatest years for gaming and television and it somehow only peaked then and never kept getting better.
The most frustrating thing with the campaign is that there's so many people out there who have studied the war for years and could've helped make it a much more authentic and respectful representation. I wish we could get a good AAA WW2 game in the modern era.
Do you play the other recent CODs? Like the MW and MWII remakes? And here's why I ask. I see a lot of people complain about the utter lack of historicity in modern, mainstream WW2 games (and justly so), but sometimes I get the impression that these people are angry history nerds who don't even play COD/BF in the first place. So what I'd like to know is how much of the (current) COD playerbase wants a more WW2-ey game or do most of them just not give a shit. Like would a modern take on COD2 be viable these days? You could add kill streaks, perks, fluid modern movement etc. But if you had historically accurate gun customization (aka. not much), I think you'd have bunch of the playerbase whining about how boring the guns are and how they want customization back. You might make some old-time COD players happy. But it would be more niche. I don't think it would sell as well or hold players as long. And that's the biggest reason such a COD game likely won't ever be made. Why would ACTIVISION want a COD that would at best be only moderately financially successful? COD established its formula long ago, and it best suits games set in the modern era. They are not going to change it to respect history. Don't get me wrong, I think a (mostly) historically accurate casual WW2 game is sorely needed, but it's not gonna come from COD IMO. But, I'm curious what your thoughts on the matter are.
@@Your_friendly_racist_neighbor With all due respect, that's kind of a non-answer. Hell Let Loose is a hardcore, teamwork-centered walking sim that's got a steep learning curve. Now I'm not saying HLL is a bad title. It's great for hardcore players, but what I think the OP wants (see what I did there 😉) and what other casual gamers want is a World War 2 game that's actually WORLD WAR 2 and actually a GAME. Like a modern incarnation of BF 1942 or COD2.
I’ll never in my life be able to forget the broken look on milo’s face, it was the greatest expression of vanguard and one of the saddest point’s in zombies history…. You wanted to laugh but the pain was real! “ how did we come to this?”
Few things I’ll give Vanguard: 1. They added ninja as a perk after the community voiced their feedback 2. They added a trophy system after everyone got tired of grenade spam 3. It did launch with 16 maps, but had poor content drops each season (map wise) 4. They did keep the game fast paced. There were campers, but gameplay speed was pretty quick But it still sucked 😂
Sledgehhammer were forced to bring ninja perk otherwise it would have been a massive failure, it still didn't have classic minimap (locked behind a perk) and no map voting
a "totally new take on ww2" would be showing the gruesomeness of the conflict on battlefields that actually happened but were never put into an fps (mostly the eastern front where the red army was pushing forward alone after "general winter" forced germany to retreat). and mentioning the war crimes the russians did would also shake up the story a bit, and give us back the ability to play as the bad guys in multplayer
Isn’t that BFV? I never got the game but I heard they focus on the eastern front and battles that aren’t as well known too bad they didn’t make a D day
My brother works QA for Activision, no joke. It's not a consistently smooth job but in recent years he's really enjoyed it, enjoyed the solidarity he has with his coworkers, and above all has been proud of the work he's done and the games that he's contributed to seeing put out. He describes Call of Duty: Vanguard as "birdcage lining".
My mate only tried the open beta (He's a recently converted gamer btw) and a couple days ago he told me he missed Vanguard and tried to convince me to buy it so we'd play together... I didn't say a word to it, he knows my stance on Vanguard and the recent CoDs in general. He wasn't around during the golden age of CoD, BF and many other series to know better and he now gets wow'd by many subpar titles and trailers; He along with the newer gens of gamers are the target audience for these games and companies, completelly oblivious to what actual quality looks like and willing to be parted with their wallet for a tiny bit of entertainment however muddy it may be.
I honestly feel the actual developers of the game want to make something awesome. But the owner activision has deadlines and profits to hit and they could careless about our experience until they start losing money.
@@spakentruth Got him to try BF1. He pretty much ends up rage quitting every single day after a couple of rounds. He can't break free from that brainless playstyle from the newer CoDs and K/D-matters mentality. I did tell him about other great CoDs but he never ended up trying any of them. Instead he decided to jump from Warzone/MW to Pubg and that's what he's been maining. Not much else I can do, he's shaping up to be yet another mainstream gamer.
Battlefield 2042 was a full waste of time about on equal level as Vanguard. BF 4, 1 and 5 have repopulated (in that order) due to 2042 being a full failure.
The crazy thing is that sledgehammer and raven were pulled from Cold War after working on it for more than a year after having disagreements on the direction of the game/plot. Then they get put to work together again on a game that was glued together in like a year and a half, while also still needing treyarch to do their ranked play and zombies. Now treyarch is even doing MW2s ranked play and somehow they have to make their own game. If anything CW-MW2 just showed that treyarch need a raise.
As a historian I have to say the statement the writers representing the often forgotten parts of of World War Two is utter nonsense. The Vanguard team i comprised of 4 English Speaking soldiers, all taking part in in major battles that are over represented in media such as movies and video games all the while having a chippy and adventurous theme. Instead of showing the Yugoslav Partisan War, the invasion of Greece, Fall of France, Chinese Guerilla fighting, Vietnamese resistance, The Baltic Front, The Invasion of Poland, Czech and Slovak Resistance The Internal Conflict of Free and Vichy French forces and countless other fronts and battles instead its another cookie cutter World War Two with the primary focus being on the English Speaking forces.
What piss me off is the waste with the soviet girl, they could’ve put her in Pavlov’s house defense that could’ve worked perfectly. But yeah….. they screw up all..
Y'know a while ago I re-watched the zombie reveals for cold war and vanguard and the difference was night and day. For cold war's they're going on about all the new mechanics and how they freshen up the old formula. You could honestly feel how excited they were to show off all of the new stuff they put together for Die Maschine. Meanwhile, vanguard's was kinda just "yeah look at our new lore i guess". They spend so much time talking about the god characters that are just glorified field upgrades, and you don't get a feel for how the game's supposed to play other than it being different from classic zombies experiences. In hindsight, you can tell they were just phoning it in.
@Kidd Thunder I still main bo4 and 3 till this day with IW on the side imo bo4 along with 3 has more content than all the new game’s combined not to mention all the dlc can be earned without spending a dime and each gun isn’t locked behind a 30$ paywall also imo those games had the best prestige camos all the new ones suck in the currents cods except for plague diamond and dark aether from cw zombies which I ended up grinding before I realized that game was going no where
@@matthewterry3869 It's too obvious. You need to be more subtle when trolling, or else no one will fall for it. If you wanted to piss some people off without giving it away, go with "all the old black ops games were just as bad as vanguard". You'll absolutely get people with that.
The thing that always pisses me off about the whole "oh but it's not the real WW2, it's our artistic interpretation", is that you could go crazy with so many ideas to spice up the WW2 shooter genre. You could add Steampunk vehicles, flying panzers, a distopian post victorian society that's been through war for more than 100 years, fucking dinosaurs, dragons or some bullshit like that. But no, female black nazi is all they can think of.
something ill always hate about vanguard is the horrible placement of guns. like finding japanese guns on the train in germany, or finding mostly german weapons during wades mission, or finding something like a bren in germany after escaping the prison. blew the immersion for me pretty much instantly
Yeahhhh there was no consistency, attention to detail, or care for accuracy… at all lol i don’t understand making a game based on history and then not caring about the history. Blew the immersion for me and my bf, too.
What really annoyed me was the insane weapon customization that could be done. So many cursed gun loadouts in the multiplayer. Many of the customization features would render the gun inoperable (Like completely removing the stock on a StG 44). I'm sorry but sawing off the stock of a bolt-action rifle is not something any sane person would do.
They tried so hard to make it an Avengers style story... which, doesnt work in a REAL WORLD WAR. I cringed harder than I ever had before when that guy said "We... were the Vanguard"
I don’t want to be mean, or rag on the devs who probably busted their asses, but for me personally, it’s been 3 strikes for Sledgehammer. AW and WW2 were both painfully mediocre, and Vanguard was downright awful. I seriously think it’s time for Sledgehammer to go back to being a support studio, and give Raven their shot at making their own CoD game.
@@Ahab2710 AW is THE CoD game when I think of the most mediocre CoD of all time. Every aspect of the game was utterly mid. Bland campaign. Forgettable zombies. And mediocre multiplayer. It's also the first CoD to have supply drops and stat changing weapon variants.
@@SquashyButton you forgot to mention the movement system that made the game unique and fun as fuck to play with friends, which eventually led to the best modern era Call of Duty in BO3. But yhea.
Even if Ghosts sucked, you can tell the devs actually tried to put something unique and fun out there, they really tried. They failed, but they tried. Vanguard didn't try.
@@Kagetora-That's fair, everyone has their tastes. I didn't have much experience with the MP, but I did go through the campaign and when compared to something like Infinite Warfare, the dialogue is just really poorly written imo. But the missions were pretty darn cool at times. I think just the writing needed more polishing.
This is the game that made me stop pre-ordering COD games. The fact that I actually like all of the older ones, and the fact that most of us will only remember this game because of Warzone tie-in's. The Godzilla/Kong event will be the only thing I will remember about this game. I uninstalled the game after the last DLC pack and haven't been tempted to go back. We should of gotten remasters
Vanguard isn't just bad. It's legitimately offensive to not only the source material of other games, to the actually history they took inspiration from, but most importantly it was offensive to the real life people that fought in this war, the fact that they had the fucking arrogance to say these "characters" single-handedly turned the tide of war is honestly disgusting and shows that the people writing this game have no respect for the people that fought and died in it.
And ghost and soap were real people who were historically accurate. That logic sucks ass, it’s a video game series where you respawn and kill people over and over. If you want more realistic games there are other options that cater to that feel
@Creepyreapz the game literally said the Russian woman single handedly changed the tide of the war, and the devs said constantly we're going for realism and to show historical events, mw2 was a fictional event in history that was forced on the characters and events going on with them, don't come and argue something if you don't know what your talking about
@@andrewmeredith15 Bruv who plays Cod for campaign story historical accuracy, the playable characters in all those games you just mentioned still aren’t real people, and the primary focus of cod is the multiplayer, my point still stands, there’s nothing realistic about it. And 1,2,3 and world at war? Wow came out in 2008 how freaking old are you? The fact that “historical accuracy” in a game series with nerf gun attachment switching, animated gun skins, unlimited lives. Being able to instantly heal yourself, dropping ridiculous killstreak perks etc, is rather laughable. You old people just like to hate on newer games and keep pretending like the games from when you were younger are better when that couldn’t be less true is just brain dead
Poor Laura, feel bad for her cuz she’s a phenomenal actress but she really has kept drawing the short straw the past decade and getting literally the most hated and absolutely worst written characters in every video game she’s in.
@@mattd5240 It's true! Which sucks cuz shes so talented and funny when she does characters like her own character Jester in critical role or even some of her old stuff like Lucina from FE or even some older anime, but recently shes just been type casted as characters like Paulina, the one girl from Gears of War, or the hulk hogan randy savage wannabe in The last of us. Just goes to show type casting can really hurt an actors career
@@raidengoodman8754 because directors type cast actors, especially Neil Cuckman who has a weird and creepy fetish for casting her as the "strongwoman" character that is literally the worst written and most unlikable characters in the entirety of media. Like i said though, thats not her fault cuz shes done phenomenal characters like Jester, Maka, Lucina etc.
It's funny that you mention the sledgehammer and raven dispute, that dispute forced treyarch to speedrun making Cold War in 2 years (1 year if you consider the fact that they were working in DLC content for BO4 in 2019), yet they still managed to drop a much better game than Vanguard, and then Activision forced them to speedrun zombies for Vanguard AND NOW they are forcing them to speedrun Black Ops 6. Why does Activision gives Treyarch the tip of the stick, not even the short end of it
The campaign is literally the most offensive thing I've ever seen in a aaa game, and most studios let loose on crazy shit so seeing them try to justify the crime of forced loving was crazy lol game makes me want to play ghost
Vanguard was the lay-up, and MWII / WZ2 was the slam dunk that made me finally accept that COD has always sucked and that I was too addicted to notice it
Activision has just sucked anything unique from the games to make room for the same bland warzone formulas every game after mw 2019 has been the exact same thing and adding battle passes to the game have just turned the series into a huge cashgrab
The funny thing with vangaurd was that the first week, the only title I saw about the game was, sledgehammer has done it, or something ultra positive like this was the best cod ever released. But the only thing vangaurd did right was the launch content.
Happens every year. People can’t cope with the fact that the marketing lies worked on them once again and they spent 70$ on a garbage game so they brag about how much fun they have with their financial mistake.
I knew it was a bad idea to have another game right away after Cold War because of the development struggles that the devs had to overcome with that game. I feel like we should have got more Cold War DLC or something.
@ArshKhanLM30 Yes but the execs want their money lol. I didn't buy Vanguard because it was set in WW2 and so many things were just bad about it lol. We thought there wasn't going to be a new full release this year and apparently we're getting mw2 2.5 lol. I am interested to see how that going to look. So many problems with mw2. I probably won't buy it.
@@Miguelon88888 ain’t no way you said COLD WAR had so many things wrong about it.. Vanguard was the horrible one.. Cold War took place in the 80’s, not in WW2
Sorry, but I have to ask, I'm about 15 minutes in. Is most of that footage from the same game? Literally looks like footage from like 12 different ones, and very few look anything even remotely resembling World War II. Not a CoD player so forgive the ignorance, but I honestly can't tell what I'm looking at sometimes. One of the bits, showing some kind of boss, looks almost like a discount Doom Eternal.
tried giving this game another chance a year later after having not played it for that long and I legit played 1 game of zombies and 1 game of multiplayer and realized I was playing one of the most cursed video games in existence where you're getting shot at by mini-guns in zombies and getting shot at by Snoop Dog in a WW2 multiplayer. Deleted the game right after.
Every bargain bin I see has like 20 copies of Vanguard in it; that told me so much about it to begin with, plus this video breaking it down even more. I agree with a lot of what you said, particularly with the writing team. If they had brought on an actual historian to supplement the writers I feel it might have helped, but that would have added costs, and I get the impression the writing team was chosen on a lowest bidder kinda system. Hopefully they find success in other areas, and can bury their involvement with Vanguard; I feel bad they got caught up in this shit storm of a poorly made game.
Sam Maggs wrote this game (Vanguard)... She also wrote Anthem, Mass Effect Andromeda and Tiny Tina's Wonderland. She was gonna write KoToR remake but left that position. Look up this person, shes very controversial.
A note for 20:30, I find it hilarious that they tried to do the vertical slices of different parts of the war and failed at its execution when Battlefield 1, and I think most would agree, succeeded on that front in telling a set of stories from different theaters of war. Very ironic.
I remember one of the developers said that Call of Duty doesn't have any memorable characters. That's ironic, because everybody who plays Call of Duty remembers Cpt. Price and Soup for being good characters, but the only reason we will remember the characters from Vanguard is because they aren't really characters. They're, more than likely, products of the diversity tool Activision/Blizzard was at least using back then, and it is quite obvious.
Yeah, the developers saying that cod didn’t have memorable characters is a sign of a lack of passion or respect towards the community and the franchise itself.
"I'm very triggered on their use of their use of the term white boy when referring to Wade. Next time I really prefer if they use the term cracker." Bro that had be cracking up ... xD
What bothers me the most about the story is that Polina's part is kinda redundant since if we take the franchise's lore as a whole, (correct me if i'm wrong) what helped the soviets drive out the germans from Stalingrad was the assassination of General Amsel by Petrenko in WaW.
The difference between WW2 and Vanguard is that with WW2 you can feel the love despite the inadequacies it has... Vanguard just feels like a copy of MW2019 but there were destructible pieces of the environment
CoD 1, 2, 3 and WaW: Shows us stuff from WWII that most WWII games dont show us CoD WWII: basically band of brothers minus the US Airborne CoD Vanguard: actively makes shit up about WWII and throws in futuristic tech (EM-1 and Trophy System) while having the most hollywood bullshit storytelling I've ever seen
My main explanation for what went wrong with Vanguard was that they tried two hard to please both the OG WWII CoD fans and the MW/BO modern CoD fans and the result left neither of them happy. Sounds like you more or less came to a similar conclusion. I do also agree that choosing pacing and map size in MP was by far Vanguard’s best mechanic.
I think the most disappointing part of the campaign was how some parts were actually dope as fuck. I loved doing the turbruk stuff, the D-Day airborne stuff was fun and the Stalingrad knife fight boss fight thing was interesting. I also liked how stealthy everything felt. The issue was that none of it really came together
I can’t believe it. On the COD Reddit, people have been begging for Vanguard’s movement to come back. It came back for MW3 hence killing my already lack of interesting in MW3
It sucks that these maps won't see the daylight in other cods because of Vanguard reputation. Das haus , Tuscan, Gondola, Oasis and Mayhem were pretty good maps and would be awesome if they get reimagined for future cods. Especially the combat pacing
This is your best video yet. I was pretty critical of your earlier retrospectives, I don't think you went in as deep as you could have with MW2 (2009). But I think you did this one justice. That MW2 (2009) retrospective made me think you weren't cut out for this fortmat. But this video shows significant growth.
My favorite part is how the people who lecture me about stereotypes had the black guys calling me a white boy and one of them saying. "I hope they have grits in heaven"
Look, I have over a dozen WW2 shooters in my video game collection. From CoD 1 all the way to Sniper Elite 5. Believe me when I say that no one was more excited than me when CoD: WW2 was an abject disappointment, and Battlefield 5 was atrocious. Now, Vanguard was coming along, promising to be the WW2 FPS we should've gotten all along. Well, I was so disappointed by it, I only played it once and felt that in a few ways, CoD: WW2 was actually better. At least we have the Sniper Elite series and the Zombie Army games to scratch the itch of shooting Nazis.
Looking back to WW2s campaign (as a German) the story that it tells really touched my heart. Walking through the concentration camp while I have visited Dachau gave me goosebumps. They really catched a feeling in this scene and you clearly see that they paid a lots of respect in WW2. In vanguard it seems like they forgot about the honor and respect that the soldiers defenetely have deserved.
I got this game on a battle net sale for half off, and I still feel like I didn't get my money's worth. 2 games of Multiplayer, 3 games of Zombies, and one playthrough of the campaign where I had to restart 3 levels because the objective glitches out
You know whats funny Call of Duty Finest Hour my first COD game did the exact same formula of diversity but included different theaters of war. First mission takes place in Stalingrad literally the second mission has you play as a female sniper. Second theaters was North Africa where you play as British SAS officer planting explosive. Third campaign was the American crossing the Rhine whats included African American tank driver and his tank battalion. All of it was crafted seamlessly and wasn't thrown in there for the sake of diversity and to my knowledge every character you played as was based off a real person. Sooooo I truthfully dont understand how Vanguard fucked up this bad when they had the blueprint from 2004
How is Finest Hour functionally different from Vanguard then? If they both have diverse characters abd diverse theaters of war then the only difference left is this nebulous concept of "an agenda". I personally think Vanguard messed up cause its mostly disjointed flashbacks of each character's origin story.
The biggest gripe I have with the story isn’t so much where they had the missions but moreso how the story was told. I feel that the best way to have the audience connect with the characters would have been better suited if they were a team at the start, rather than their first mission be the last day of the war. While yes it would be totally inaccurate to have Arthur or the others in Stalingrad it could have been written that they have to hold Polina back and aim her at a bloody revenge attack aimed at the Germans in the area who killed her father. Or shoehorn it into the story that all of team vanguard was selected by their respective nations to go on suicide missions after they did something “impossible without dying in the process”. I love history and we have seen some incredible stories be told in the WWII setting but this story and setting just suck
It could have also just been one big infiltration mission from the start, with each characters backgrounds being explored not by flashbacks but them in each mission doing what got them picked to begin with. Clearly this team was assembled with a goal in mind, so it makes no sense to not show them using their experience and skills for one last battle.
So true. Literally the main reason I couldn't vribg myself to really like the campaign was cause 90% of it was disjointed flashbacks where all the characters have no association with each other.
I would have loved a good immersive WWII shooter with badass customization that may be not historical accurate but still fitting for the era. They could have gone a very cool route with bringing back the specific WWII factions for the Multiplayer maps with Faction exclusive skins and operators that also adjust their appearance based on the map to keep the immersion alive (snow suits in snow environments for example). I really liked the Multiplayer launch of the game in terms of fundamental gameplay and pace and the amount of launch content. Just a shame they couldn't give the game the support it needed
it sucks u dont like making these videos bc theyre too negative but i love these videos hahaha. thank u for giving me binge watching videos like this that i can go back and rewatch 7 times🙌
The sad thing about vanguard is that when i play it i can hear its echoes of greatness Vanguard would have been one of the best Dieselpunk FPS out there if only Activision would had let the development team cook rather than forcing them to the WW2 recepie.
I loved the mp gameplay on a base level. Like, the pacing was fun and the gunplay felt nice... for the first few days before everyone started unlocking attachments. The gunsmith is so annoying to deal with. Also I'm just saying, they would've gotten a better reception if they made Advanced Warfare 2. They literally had an exo suit skin in the last season. Plus the gunsmith would make sense as well! I'd love to see some remakes of the AW guns and how they'd play in the new engine... but ig World War Two Guns Once Again (Not The Popular Ones Tho) - The Game made more sense for the execs
Funny thing when I was watching a friend play vangaurd when it became availible on steam, we both kept hearing what we thought was the battlefield theme on a couple of occasions came to an idea that at some point that either it was a coincidence or they wanted to copy battlefield V.
When I saw it was your team vs the enemy team and no nazis I immediately knew the game was lacking balls. And honestly this woke crap in videogames its getting old. Waw did it perfectly they even had the guts show war crimes.
Chopper literally talks about all of the different development hurdles the game went through, and you think one writer out of many is solely responsible for ruining the entire game 🤡
I haven't played an online FPS in years, and man do all these gun cosmetics in shooters these days look absolutely stupid. The visual mess is just unbearable.
It seems like Activision needs to designate each studio to create their own game and have other studios to check it out and see what it needs instead of rushing another project after another

About a third of the way through the campaign, I started skipping all of the cut scenes as soon as they started. I lost interest AND felt like the devs were just flicking rubber bands at me the whole time. This is the only video that needs to be made and watched about Vanguard. Well done. 👍

Crazy how CoD WaW is still the best World War 2 Call of Duty game. The zombies storyline building off World War 2 in a realistic way was also a great. I was 8 years old when it released and I’m 23 now. Just imagine CoD kept innovating at the level every release. It would be the undisputed top dog like it used to be. Despite the yearly releases, for a time CoD was a respected franchise. Now it’s a complete joke.
The only reason people look back at old bad cod games and decide it wasn’t that bad is because with each new one it gets worse than the last, so we really didn’t know how good we had it at the time of the current cod
DIscrediting the writers for having a history of writing Black characters/female driven story is pretty irrelevant considering the sucess of some of these books. It might not be their usual preferred topics but they have shown range beyond that in their prior work. Otherwise I do agree the writing felt pretty weak, just like every other aspect of the game. Not necessarily the fault of the writing team, but more so the upper designers who had no idea what to do with their game in the first place
Cod should never make another ww2 game ever again for one reason. If you're not okay with that fact that one team is going to be nazis then don't do it I either shot my own teammates or got shot by the other team in an effort to not shoot my teammates
I remember they broke the auto aim on Xbox for months... I enjoyed it when it released but every update broke the game worse and worse. I thought it was a little cool that Operators had unlocks in-game. It's kind of hilarious how MW2 has that $30 purchasable battle pass with black and gold skins that look identical to the ones you could unlock in Vanguard with gameplay.
The lack of a Wonder Weapon is even funnier when you consider NACHT DER UNTOTEN, THE LITERAL FIRST COD ZOMBIES MAP EVER, HAD THE RAY GUN AT LEAST, and on a similar note the First map with Pack a Punch had a Pack a Punch Camo
Lack of pap camo, lack of working end stats, lack of pausing, kicks in solo games, lack of easter egg, no wonder weapons, no round based, 1 map that was all recycled assets from mp. This lists some of the issues on release
Let’s be real… the entire PS5 generation of CoD has been trash… from Vanguard, to Cold War, and MW2, all just absolutely terrible CoDs from pay to win, complete focus on BR, social Justice bs in campaigns, disbanding lobbies, no ninja perk, missing red dots, horrible gun balance, atrocious map design, and an all around lack of personality and creativity. Pitiful. If MW3 is anything like the last 3 years, I have no doubt this will be the last year cod is still considered the #1 FPS brand
Give Cold War a break. They did most of the work from home during the 2020 quarantines. The other games don’t get that slack. Cold War did well with what it worked with. It could’ve been worse. We had 4 zombie round based maps. Sure it wasn’t a gem but it wasn’t a shit game either
I love how the pricks that made this campaign think that they know a bunch of history and try to re-write history, but the fact that the main villain alludes to wanting to having kids with Polina is absurd to me, the Nazis literally hated the Russians just about as much as the Jews.
To me, the Vanguard campaign really reminded me of Gears of War Judgement's campaign. Both are games that tell the story in flashbacks for what is happening at the moment. Except in Judgement the characters are always together and their relationships (lack of a better word) grow throughout the story. I can believe how Baird's team was able to use the bomb to take out Karn for a victory in the war, even if it means court martial instead of four people who have never met or even work that well together to adapt in less than like an hour of prison time?
I can't believe I found someone who was thinking the same thing! 😄 I also had issues with judgement due to it mostly being flashbacks, but cause the characters were always together it felt more cohesive than Vanguard where you were basically playing four different disconnected origin stories for the most part.
And GoW Judgement’s flashbacks were actually tied in with the story. Vanguard’s flashbacks have nothing to do with the overarching plot of “operation phoenix”
Tbh for vanguard I loved the fact they had different sizes, I loved playing it on blitz mode because it was like 10 vs 10 or 12 vs 12 and the big maps felt filled, now these big maps with 6 vs 6 just feels empty, I enjoyed it because it felt like ww2 alot more then a 6 vs 6. Just when these maps getting bigger and bigger but kept as a 6v6
@@wildcard2884 how so? Big maps needs more people and vanguard understood that, cod mp maps are getting bigger and it’s still a lousy 6v6, we need smaller maps for 6v6s and not these big maps that has us running around looking for people

That's true, although the part where they executed all those German officers is right in point with how fascist regimes end up purging those who don't completely fall in-line, regardless of whether the regime is collapsing or not.
There’s Black Ops: Declassified and World at War: Final Fronts as the other bad Call of Duty games, but I guess given the former is a bad handheld spin-off and the latter’s a watered-down, last-gen port of a good game, those aren’t as egregious as this game

I can see why people love Warzone but I wish they never made it. They keep fusing the stand-alone games with it.

Hell Let Loose

They did bring on at least one actual historian, it was the same guy who they brought on for cod ww2.

Battlefield 1 is the only reason these games went into production. That's it
I remember one of the developers said that Call of Duty doesn't have any memorable characters.
Soup 🍵
I meant Soap, that was a mistype
Or Mason and Woods.
"No memorable characters"... 3 words....VIKTOR FUCKEN REZNOV.
Yeah, the developers saying that cod didn’t have memorable characters is a sign of a lack of passion or respect towards the community and the franchise itself.

The only reason WWII was made is because of Battlefield 1. That's it, anybody with an IQ above 50 understood that when it was announced
CoD 1, 2, 3 and WaW: Shows us stuff from WWII that most WWII games dont show us
CoD WWII: basically band of brothers minus the US Airborne
CoD Vanguard: actively makes shit up about WWII and throws in futuristic tech (EM-1 and Trophy System) while having the most hollywood bullshit storytelling I've ever seen
Yeah vanguard had some really cool map
Multiplayer gameplay, guns and movement was on point. And those maps as you mentioned. I think that Vanguard multiplayer was fun.

WW2 shooters need to end, there's too many.

@@gamerinatrance3618Vanguard forces it to you. They build a narrative around inclusive characters, the political tone behind it is palpable.
Thanks for tha video, this whole series is really well made
The biggest gripe I have with the story isn’t so much where they had the missions but moreso how the story was told.
So true. Literally the main reason I couldn't vribg myself to really like the campaign was cause 90% of it was disjointed flashbacks where all the characters have no association with each other.
ah yes, two of my least favorite story tropes: one man (or small squad) single-handedly ends a war, and "Getting captured was all part of my plan!"
It’s better than the new modern warfare 2 that’s a fact
Agreed. Modern Warfare 2 is just literally a rehash of a 15 year old game. And it’s worse!!! Lmao

I gotta call bullshit on this one.😂
I would have loved a good immersive WWII shooter with badass customization that may be not historical accurate but still fitting for the era. They could have gone a very cool route with bringing back the specific WWII factions for the Multiplayer maps with Faction exclusive skins and operators that also adjust their appearance based on the map to keep the immersion alive (snow suits in snow environments for example).
I really liked the Multiplayer launch of the game in terms of fundamental gameplay and pace and the amount of launch content. Just a shame they couldn't give the game the support it needed

Dude AW was dope.
Funny thing when I was watching a friend play vangaurd when it became availible on steam, we both kept hearing what we thought was the battlefield theme on a couple of occasions came to an idea that at some point that either it was a coincidence or they wanted to copy battlefield V.

It seems like Activision needs to designate each studio to create their own game and have other studios to check it out and see what it needs instead of rushing another project after another
no need, if you're self-aware enough to not buy cod games year after year no matter what's in em you're not their target audience. they'd never say it out loud but they're primarily trying to appeal to kids who don't know any better, there's a reason cod has the most squeakers out of any AAA franchise out there lol
About a third of the way through the campaign, I started skipping all of the cut scenes as soon as they started. I lost interest AND felt like the devs were just flicking rubber bands at me the whole time.
