- Fallout 4 offers a wasteland home to numerous human settlements, and perhaps the most iconic city in the Commonwealth is Diamond City. A great green jewel in the otherwise bleak Fallout universe, Diamond City occupies a central position in Fallout 4's main storyline as well as numerous side questlines and narratives. With a bustling commercial district and plenty of safety, it's not hard to see why this community has prospered. But even this glittering bastion of humanity is hiding its own secrets. So today we'll be taking a look at five things you (probably) didn't know about Diamond City in Fallout 4.

The dialogue between Dr Duff and Professor Scara right when you enter the Science Center for the first time is pretty blatant about the two of them being more than just colleagues. Scara mentions sleeping on the floor of the lab for three nights after an argument - and besides that there's only one bed in the entire building.

Also, it's pretty obvious their relationship is very unhealthy and abusive. Scara is always talking crap about Duff both to her face and to the player. There's also the fact Scara has no issues abandoning Duff causing Duff to fall into a deep depression, Scara then shows no sign of even missing Duff or caring about her.

For me, Sanctuary is more recognisable, as I’ve restarted Fallout 4 about 50 times, got to Sanctuary, started building for hours, decided to play the story, left the game for weeks and then decided to build a new character and do it all again.

@@JesseJames-hp1lz this made me lol. I've played this game twice through before and loved it. Ended up deleting my saves and am now about a fifth of way through.. depending how you look at it. Because as you pointed out. This game is one sure fire decent way to quite literally kill time. Especially as I've finally learnt to build better.

I always felt that Travis was an excellent contrast to Three-dog's loud and bombastic radio persona. I never did Travis's quest because I liked his nervous broadcasts.

Same, except I did the quest. He's still got some good lines as a confidence man but the nervous little correctional behavior he's got with certain quotes, like "a word - or several - from our sponsor" or "here's a thing - a-a-a sort of ... note" is just adorable.

Same here, though I would have liked it if his quest only improved his confidence a little bit instead of a 180 turn.

In my first play through I sided with the institute, there was a mission where you get to put a recording of yourself talking for the institute, so in the mission you go into diamond city radio, place the recording there and walk out, I didn't want any loose ends, so I killed Travis, I was pleasantly surprised when sheng took over.

So I did the "Painting the Town" mission for Abbot and instead of using green paint, it let me use yellow. They mission still gave me the caps was pretty unique for my sake haha. Also just went back and the bottom row is yellow now haha. Now I get some guards saying I'm the one who made the stadium look like a lemon

Judging from a lot of the things you find when boundary breaking, it's generally been my theory that the ability to close the gate was left over from early testing as a means to reset the area. This would explain the lack of a visible control and simple activation.
Another possibility, however, is there may have once been plans to do some sort of mission where you had to close the gate and defend the city from an attack. This is far less likely, considering there's no signs that they were planning to add a passage (likely through the stands) to get up there. It could be a fun idea for a mod, however.
One thing I've yet to try with this little easter egg is to see if it works BEFORE meeting Piper. I usually leave Diamond City go for a while, so maybe on my next playthrough I'll make my way up to the roof from the side and see if I can open the door while Piper's busy trying to talk her way through it. I haven't heard of anyone actually trying this, and it 's strongly possible the option will be locked until after Piper.
That's a cool idea nonetheless, my guess is if that were to be it would be a Minutemen quest. Where you would have to line up with the Minutemen and defend Diamond City, just like how they defended the city from Super Mutants oh so long ago. That'd be pretty cool.
Knowing how the engine works and how bethesda works im sure the real reason is because to get it to work they made it a door like the others in games and put the hitbox up there in an effort to hide it from players

There is a cut quest in Diamond City where closing the gate and trapping people in the city makes sense. The one where synths attack diamond city and you and your faction defend it and then a bunker appears in diamond city for your faction or something.
You were originally supposed to be able to walk around on the upper stands (outside) of the city cell where the switch is located

I know that it was just for the sake of the quest not breaking, but if you wanna take a more artistic explanation for this. All children in Fallout are considered essential. Travis, upon the completion of confidence man, grows up. He's no longer a child and no longer essential.

It's a real treat you continue to do these video's. I am currently playing through fallout 4.
It is great to explore the commonwealth with the information gleaned from these video's. It makes the play through have more immersion. The story makes more sense and is more meaningful, thanks.

Easter Egg - So found this along time ago. I've watch a lot of your videos and haven't seen this yet. In Nuka World at the Disciples base if you go inside and look on the top of the structure you will find Han Solo in Carbonite. Checked recently its still there

Thanks to a bug I had over 40 settlers in Egret Tours Marina. I had to cut back because that many causes a PS4 to freak out slightly.
Kind of imagined they are the same size.
@@christopherconard2831 Lmao, i did the exact same thing way back when on my brothers PS4, i would take settlers from Red Rocket and make them do a supply line to Sanctuary then from there you can make them settlers by assigning a task, by having my charisma super high through clothes and armor i was able to get about 50 settlers before the game broke.

Actually, you can close the gate to Diamond City from within the city itself, though you won't see the animation play out. The gate will, however, be closed when you "leave" the interior.

you are going to love it. For a bunch of cool new npc's and side quests that are as good or better than vanilla, get the mod "atomic radio/tales from the commonwealth" Author is kris takahashi if i remember right. it is fantastic.
@@DucklynStark I built my own from pieces. if you overbuild as much as you can afford to, it can last a long time with no upkeep at all. I built mine when the 1080Ti was brand new, so I got two of them and built them out as water cooled. same with the i7 7700k chip. so its several years old, but it still runs all games on ultra, and i have never had a problem, except for losing one stick of ram. and other than dusting it inside and out now and then, I have never done anything to it.
number 6: fenway park's famous red seat is present in fallout 4. it's harder to see since all of the seats have become a rusty color, but among them you'll be able to see a seat that's quite a bit more red than the others.
You don't need to "dig in the games files" to tell that Scara and Duff were together. One of the first things Scara tells you is that they share a bed. They are very clearly together.
The security guards have special dialogue on the holidays.

When you first going into the Science Centre Professor Scara talks about having to sleep on the floor after the last time they discussed how the Institute makes synths. Dr Duff points out that it was her own decision.
I figured they were together pretty quickly in the game. It's nice to have it confirmed I guess.
for confidence man i “accidentally” killed the bar fight guys not knowing they were actors, and then the bar guy got kidnapped or whatever and i had to go save the bar guy with travis and it was definitely a fun experience
I don’t know if you’ve talked about this in another video already but you can still get X6-88 as a companion after turning on the institute. After destroying the institute you can find him outside Libertalia, near that ocean settlement, and can be recruited. He still turns hostile toward the Railroad if brought to their HQ and it’s only in the Railroad ending I know for sure this happens. I’ve also never used him as a follower before then so that may have something to do with it as well. Maybe it was a last request by Father to look after their dear parent even after what they’ve done, or maybe Bethesda just neglected this fact.

So odd you happen to mention 1689... Ive held one of the countries most oldest settlement deeds in my very own hands. It was in a picture frame of course, but was written on sheep skin written in blood. It was a settlement somewhere in Pennsylvania.. Dated for 1689. It is now located in the Dayton Archive Building in Dayton, Ohio along with every single Dayton Daily News paper ever since it was formed.
Also a guard once told me "Happy Halloween" when it was Halloween in the game
Another fun fact about Diamond City: When you complete the main storyline, members of your sided Faction will occasionally pass through, and they essentially "claim" Diamond City via flags.
This can have drastic consequences. The game doesn't do a great job of informing you of the different Faction's goals before it's too late (and honestly, only the Minutemen are without corruption). I didn't know what the Railroad's ultimate goal was, didn't know the Brotherhood would try to kill *everyone*, and didn't even know the Minutement were in the running at all.
I sided with the BOS, spared Danse's life, and now they attack on sight (if he's my companion), even in Diamond City and the wilderness. That wouldn't be so terrible, except that the game brings Danse with me to the airship and other BOS outposts, so it's a sudden war everywhere. But then, as soon as he's not with me, I'm back to being a Pillar of Morals, no matter how many BOS soldiers I've killed. It's just.. so confusing, and I think a bad decision on Bethesda's behalf.

@@krevlow You can join institute and can persuade minutemen to listen to you, so you basically run the commonwealth as you please. Removing BOS and Railroad in the process. I consider that to be a happy end because you are with your son in his final moments and I can imagine you can make decisions that will greatly benefit the people living on the surface later after the game ends. ... and... as the leader you could be able to get everyone's waifu Curie to join the institute as well, because she is a scientist after all... though she is a robot.
The choices of words and vocab are just incredible I love people narrating like these.
If you talk to the guards on the holidays they will sometimes mention it. I remember on Christmas guards will say "ho, ho, freaking ho." And on Halloween, they will say "do we ever get treats, no it's just tricks."
The weirdest part about being able to control the gate is that it's also an area that is intentionally accessible considering the amount of loot that's up there.
For the Third point, we know that originally more was planned for Diamond City but it had to be scaled back due to limitations. Considering the objects left on the roof maybe there was originally supposed to be a guard post up there? That would make your empty space the place where the button used to be before it was deleted?
Whenever you want to put a unique object in a game, the easiest solution is often to take code from something similar instead of starting from scratch. The devs probably just implemented the diamond city gate as some kind of door and forgot to remove the option to interact with it like other doors.
The Gate beeing closeable is a quirk of the game engine to activate on the scripted event there has to be an interact point. Normally these are under the map or out of bounds but in this case its just super high up where no one "should" have found it
I love this settlement. My personal favorite settlement that you cannot control. I’ve made well over 10000 caps there and it has a good vibe to it. You can also grab a lot of stuff there for survival mode. You can rent the little room in the dugout inn. Make a quick 600 caps from the guy in the stands, and you can also steal tons of purified water from that kids house. It’s a great place, truly.

Hey nate, I’ve been trying to get this through to you cause I’m interested on what your take of the situation would be. Anyway to the point, in fo4, there is a small train station I forget where (I know not very helpful) that I came across that had a chilling secret. Inside the little watch tower thingy it seems pretty normal... except for the trapdoor that leads down to the subfloor. Down there in the small room, there is a fresh body that is handcuffed to an operation table, next to it is a table that is covered in what seems to be torture tools and blood bags. Idk I would enjoy seeing it in an upcoming vid and hear what your thoughts/theories/speculations might be on it

Ok I just found it again, go to oberlin station and just fallout the train tracks south, it’ll bring you to a small station ( I think the one where Kellogg’s trail brings you) go inside the tower and there will be the trap door!

Travis is only Essential After Starting his side quest (Confidence Man).
BEFORE the quest is started Travis is quite killable 😈 (be sure to use stealth so the city guard don't come gunning for you👿).
Afterwards, same result of course, Sheng takes over.

I actually get a kick out of Vadim Bobrov. I especially like Nick's comment about Vadim during the missing bartender quest. Nick says if the Institute ever kidnapped and replaced Vadim, nobody would notice him acting weird, especially since he likes to sample his moonshine.😁
I think I heard somewhere that the reason you can close the gate is because you could’ve taken a muinetman quest and control the gate on top of the wall and have to close it when raiders or mutants attack

I would love to see the little boy who sells water become a major in the next fallout game. Like he becomes a big time water merchant that ends up controlling most if not all of the water that flows into and out of the east coast.

Hey Nate! Followed you for the Skyrim content and just started playing fallout 4 because of you!
There are LOADS of sad, spooky and interesting little details in the game, from that couple of skeletons in wheelchairs close to the Compound (old people who decided to enjoy one last nuclear sunset?) to the layout of bombed out houses. It'd be lovely if you could do some videos going through such details in fallout 4, like you did with Skyrim.

I had no idea about the radio station quest until my second play through. It’s very interesting to see the differences in the radio on the two play through.
I love how ur forced to go to Diamond city in the beginning of the game but at the end of the day diamond city was ur friend and you got to know the people in its walls

Travis isn't essential before his quest enters a certain stage. I killed him with my institute character because on of the Bobrovs was joking about it and she doesn't understood it as a joke. So he is only in a small windo essential.

I was playing FO4VR today, and have decided to do a Brotherhood run (Cause seeing the Brotherhood in VR feels amazing!), and my previous run (on pancake FO4) was a Minute Men route, where I learned it was possible to get banished from the institute (required for the minutemen route), and that made me wonder what would happen if you got banished before you recruited Lee.
It's neat knowing that there's a failsafe for that! And one that actually has some character to it!
