So I recently discovered I have a condition called "visual snow", which is not new for me, but I didn't know it had a name, or was even different from what other people see. I seem to have a mild case that doesn't interfere with my life at all, but basically my entire field of vision has a kind of low-level static noise. Apparently it's very rare, and many people and even doctors have never heard of it. I only happened to find it by chance after randomly googling 'visual static' out of curiosity, and read more into it. But some people have much more severe cases of it that are very debilitating, so I figured I'd make a video talking about it.

I didn't know visual snow existed but I do notice its symptoms. I can make it resemble images/objects sometimes, though I cannot really control what. Also, it gets worse the more unconscious I become (when sleepy), or when not using my eyes.

Madzie 2000 i think i have it (or something like it) because when i look around in any light condition if i focus on it it gets super bad where i see patterns in green/red overlaying my vision where i get so indulged in it i end up missing 5 mins of class. I also seem to get distracted easily so when i start noticing the visual snow i end up staring off into space for long period of time without noticing what i’m doing.

I’m so glad people are trying to spread awareness of this as it may be annoying for a lot of people. I have the (disorder?) where I just see static it’s like what he showed but slightly less mild and I just thought it was normal till I for some reason thought it wasn’t, mostly because I don’t think your vision is supposed to look like an early 2000s live tv show. I can see it better when I focus on it and even have this floater (If floaters are supposed to go away then I’m screwed cause this thing’s never gone away) and I never knew it was so rare to the point most eye doctors don’t even know the (disorder thingy) if it isn’t going to get worse or if it isn’t going to kill me or something I kinda wanna keep it (even though it makes me highly sensitive to light, usually takes me a good 20/30 minutes just to stop squinting and car lights are way to bright for me (I HATE high beams) but a lot of my family tell me I can see very well in the dark compared to them like I was able the see a sign that said 60 mph maybe like 130 feet away before my mom could read it. Long story short thanks for giving your time for a incurable maybe soon to be curable (disorder thingy... I’m not sure if it’s a disorder, a disease or what)

I’ve noticed that it gets more severe when I don’t sleep well and when I don’t take care of myself the way I should with eating and stress relieving habits. I have a sudden and random ringing in my ears and I’ve anxiety for ever. The more research I do the more I start believing that these are all connected. Visual snow does affect my daily life, I hope that one day it goes away as randomly as it came.

I know a few people who developed VS after a spiritual experience. While some say it’s just a medical condition they have. You gotta figure out why you have it in your own case.

Palinopsia itself refers to an increased frequency/exposure of afterimages, which under certain lighting conditions can result in some serious trailing. Especially in low light.

Not all migraines hurt BTW ou guys could have silent migraines with ocular disturbances if it comes and goes like w me and isn't all the time. (I have alot of the other symptoms as well.) Anycase. Back to the point. Most of these snow symptoms and others like it happened when I damaged the very upper area of the spine. From shoulders up into the skull, my disks slip in and out alot you see after that. ... when slipped out... alot of these symptoms show. If I’m well mentally then I won’t have a problem. However, as soon as I’m depressed or my anxiety is high, I can’t stop thinking about it and it becomes very annoying. Mind you I’ve had the same visual snow and tinnitus since before I can even remember. This is how I know anxiety worsens things by a mile.

I’ve had an MRI which turned out fine and multiple eye exams which showed no deviation from normal. I had a lumbar puncture today and I’m waiting for results. Every single time I took a test or had an exam, the person giving the exam would ask why, then I would tell them and they looked at me like I was crazy.

The main factors in my case are extreme sensitivity to light, so I gotta wear sunglasses all the time, and after images which make it hard to read or see things in general. Also migraines but I’m medication for that. I got diagnosed by a neurologist around a year ago so that was a shock. I have that ringing in my ears and floaters and I had an aura once.

Then I just found a video on UA-cam (another one) and in the comment section were all the people who share the same experience as me and that’s such a relief.

Thank you so much for making this video. About two years ago I went out with my uncle to fly a drone. About 3 months before that my science teacher talked about how the sun is very damaging to the eye and can blind you in seconds. Of course this is not true (the seconds part) but I was scared out of my wits. I have a tendency to overthink things. So i had already been scared of going blind. I can even say it is the thing I am most scared of. So when I was looking up at that drone I saw an eye floater. This led to me doing a lot of research and noticing other things. I was hypersensitive about all of the things about my vision. It has been 2 years (ish) now and i don’t know that i have gone a day without thinking about it. I try to forget but it is hard to when you always see them. I have gone to the eye doctor twice and both times they said i was fine. I also started being sensitive to light. I started bringing my sunglasses everywhere i went. To a point i dreaded going outside because i would see the floaters and it would be unpleasant. Of course i also noticed the static but i could remember seeing it as a kid before i saw my first floater. So i kind of just brushed that off. I am very grateful for you for this video. I have been tormented by this for two years without any explanation. On a deeper note, i have been praying for it to get better. This is Gods way of helping because now I know I am not alone. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

@@dietcokezeros942 I think it depends on the individual. Certainly thinking too much about any chronic medical condition is going to make you more anxious about it, and that's going to make everything feel worse. But some people are more affected by anxiety than others. I'm kind of aware of my visual snow all the time, but usually not thinking about it much. It feels a bit of an exaggeration in my case to say I forget about it as such, but it's just like this is just how my life is, it's not a big deal kind of thing, from a psychological perspective anyway, although it does affect my physical ability. I think it is easier to live with when you're focusing on whatever it is you're doing rather than how your VS is affecting whatever it is you're doing

Dark rooms absolutely, in the evening I’m swarmed by it. I have a genetic rare disease I was born with (septo optic dysplasia) and I thought that could be this, but I always thought it was normal - absolutely normal. Until I was diagnosed with Hemiplegic migraines recently and joined a few support groups online to help me deal with what I’m going through - and someone randomly posted about this visual snow... what the heck is that and why has someone posted about it in a migraine support group?? So I did a google and WHOAH!! Explained everything in one hit. It’s NOT normal at all. It’s comfort knowing it’s not normal and I’m not crazy at the same time.
Seems like it’s all linked for me, from crazy weekly HMs to my brain malformation (again that’s mild too), and this visual snow. Wonder what I’ll discover next about myself and my health!

I also have to added layer of a slosh of vitreous fluid that swishes around when I look around, but that's probably from all of my eye surgeries.
EDIT: WAH! I also have tinnitus, and apparently that vitreous fluid slosh I was talking about was the enhanced entopic phenomena you were talking about. now I don't know what's related to my document eye diseases (cataracts, glaucoma, etc.) and what's related to my minor neurological things (ADD, misophonia, exploding head syndrome, GD, tinnitus, etc.)

this describes exactly how I see it. i didn’t notice it much in the morning before I knew this was a condition; but in the night it was vivid. i used to think I could see atoms. worst thing about it is, now you know some people can’t see it, now it’s very much there. you can’t unnotice it

The fact that we all describe it the same way and have the exact same situation since we were kids " telling our parents then they brush it off like " what are you talking about " then thinking this is what everyone has, having it for as long as we can remember... Everything you just said in the exact same order is what I've been hearing from everyone in this community and that's how I also used to describe it before hearing about it online...

its kinda creepy how all of us did the exact same "my vision looks staticy" or "i see so many dots in my eyes" and no one believed us, just in these comments its hundreds of people saying the exact same thing, and then everyone saying they only ever found out it existed after randomly researching it, i havent seen a single person with VS say a doctor diagnosed them without them having to bring it up and explain it

I have VS and I feel that this REALLY needs to be focused on more. I only recently looked it up and Im annoyed that no one else is really aware about this. I didnt really notice it being a problem until recently. I do plan on seeing a doctor about it but Idk if anything will help it.

She wrote a computer program that created static effect to give me an idea of what it looked like, and it’s wild.

Why write a program when you can just use the iso static

    • @ayansi
      @ayansi 5 років тому

AdamasDragon We didn’t actually think of using iso static at the time. We had just finished up our classwork for a programming class so she used the extra time to whip something up really quick. Not to mention it seems like the visual snow is much more severe for her than the iso static appeared to be.

I have a very very severe case of visual snow, I was diagnosed when I was 14! I have full visual, colorized visual snow. I have almost all the side effects, tinnitus, blue field entoptic phenomenon, migraines, etc. I'm so excited that you made this video! Its a really unresearched "disease" with no cure. You're awesome!

Thank you for doing this video! I've had this all my life and my Visual Snow is Not mild. I have all the common symptoms associated with the whole syndrome. Luckily I can drive a car fine and I have a good sense of humor. Your video will do a whole lot to spread awareness!

Timothy Salthouse This has been happening to me for more than 2 years. I went to eye specialists and neurologists, all my medical reports are normal. They referred me to psychiatrist.
It feels like the situation getting out of hand. I am scared. My family don't understand it.

Thanks for this video. Been suffering this a lot for a long while and couldn't figure out what it is or how to describe it to people without them thinking it's just floaters. Comforting to know theres others out there with this to share frustrations and anxieties.

So relieved to find this video! I developed the static effect, floaters and light sensitivity three years ago - knowing that I'm not alone (and not going mad) has made me feel better. I just have to wear sunglasses much more now and am learning to ignore all the stuff in my vision. I have tinnitus as well and I have heard that most people with snowy vision have tinnitus. Oh well, there are worse things to have!
