oh I can imagine what it’s like to have it all the time haha. Had it for the past 20 or so years. Happy to see it’s actually begun to be recognized. It was a traumatic experience having your vision change overnight and be told nothing is wrong with you.

@@97kane I think I've subconsciously always had it. I'm 26 now but I think through my early 20s I didn't recognise it much. It only came to my attention recently when I developed a light sensitivity issue. Truth be told for the longest part I've not noticed it nor has it bothered me a great deal - my VSS is like a light, think layer of fast moving TV static.

Yup, straight on point, mine appeared when I was 26 out of the blue.
I also had it for an hour when I was 21, I looked around and saw the static and a floater in my eye, said to myself “well, maybe it’s time to sleep” so I went to bed and the next day was gone.
However, it’s a devil given disease, hope one day we will be able to get rid of it.

I thought everyone saw static, legit since I was a kid I saw static in my vision especially at night where all I saw was static, however during the day I can usually ignore it. I'm also very sensitive to touch, sound, and light; there have been times where I've gone outside on a sunny day and the sun burned my eyes so much that I started tearing up even though I was looking down. Having trouble falling asleep has also been a problem especially recently where I can't sleep till its about 3 or 4 a.m..

Other than tinnitus, I've not had any of the other symptoms of VSS (other than being quite ticklish, I'm not very sensitive to touch nor do I get migraines, but I do have light sensitivity. I've been on screens 24/7 since the first lockdown). I've had tinnitus since my teens however what's interesting is, since I turned 26, my VSS symptoms (light layer of TV static) became more apparent.

I was watching something boring on netflix and started googling "why are white walls fuzzy in dim light" and "why is it more pronounced when drunk". I noticed that I don't see it on the tv or phone screen. It's never caused me any issues though.
Amazing what giving a phenomenon a name can do. I'd might have lived and died none the wiser hadn't I been watching something as futile as 'Prison Break'.

I remember when I first got visual snow, at night I went in my grandparents there was no light at it, I sat on the ground but then I looked at the ceiling and I saw green, pink, and blue static EVERYWHERE I literally felt like I was gonna pass out because how scared I was, this all happened when I was 11 or 12.
then after that day I went to online school and I was the mirror in my room was very static, I started to get scared and stressed again and it got worse and I searched it up and I couldnt believe I had a rare condition
But now today I don't really care about it anymore because my brain chooses to ignore it and I completely forgot I had snow vision for a while now, it only happens at night now and it wasn't as worse as it was when I first got it in 2020

I've had this since I was 12-14. I can clearly remember the day I got it, (not that I know this CAUSED it in any way, but) I was playing video games a lot the day I got it, literally for 6+ hours straight. When I looked away from the TV, I realised that the static wasn't going away. It's been with me ever since without really changing at all day to day.
At the time I found it extremely distressing, but overtime (like with my tinnitus) I just learnt to ignore it most of the time. Fortunately, for me, it isn't so bad that I can't drive, however, I do have problems with insomnia (which is not surprising because I have self light of the eye on top of the static! so it's never even really dark for me, even in the pitch black when my eyes are closed... it just looks like a negative after-image across the whole of my visual field, is the best way I can describe it. I have also had depression and anxiety and found it very hard to work at times (though its difficult to speculate as to how much the VS has contributed to this.)
It's only occasionally that I'm forced to think about having VS. The lack of ability to see in the dark is the biggest thing. For example, during my summer holiday, I was on the beach with my girlfriend at night, she likes to watch the stars and was trying to share a moment with me about how beautiful they were. Truth is, at night I can't even see the stars! When I look up its too difficult to distinguish them from the background static... so I just had to nod along and go "yeah sure". Also, I have had many occasions where people are surprised that I don't know who they are when they talk to me at night, in the dark. I just have to guess based on the voice even if they are very close to me.

I have visual snow, and I can report at least for me, it’s not that bad. Mine is considered chronic and whether not people want to admit it especially those with visual snow, it’s not really that life changing. It sucks, and it bothers me sometimes but I think about it less and less. Mind set is really important for this especially since there is no cure. Acceptance is key, and I have found that my brain is slowly adapting to it over the years and it’s getting lighter and lighter. Whether or not it’s improving at all for me is subjective but. It no longer defines me. I would be fine living with it forever, but if the research improves down the line I’d definitely get treatment maybe. I may not even want it though. I am curious of how visual therapy exercises could improve the brains natural filter for these phenomena that seems to be absent from visual snow suffers. Regardless of that thank you for the informative video, it helps immensely. I also appreciate your honesty and willingness to help other VS patients even if the treatment currently available may not get rid of visual snow fully.

It all started with Aura crisis when I was 18 years old. Some years later many floaters and it only got worse each day. With 26 I had Lasic performed and one week later noticed visual snow more evident, really sensitive with bright lights, night blindness ...and it only gets worse. Migraine, paraesthesia, anxiety, depersonalization and derealisation are always there. I was once told that I was bipolar:/ .. but nope. All related to visual snow syndrome :/ . I'm from Brazil and I don't know how to get medical care and treatement for this disease.

Got it two months ago after 31 years with a clear vision, now i see it pretty much everywhere, especially indoors. On top of the disgusting visual snow that has robbed me off about 40% of my vision i also got an excessive amount of floathers, double vision of certain things (ghosting), halos, starbursts, photophobia, derealization and tinnitus. This has literally ruined my life and robbed me of my interests.

I realized last year that the way I see isn't definetelly like everyone else are looking at the world when seeing short summary about visual snow. I have always seen the world as in grany filter and it gets sometimes bigger static or then it's mild one. Things with large white places makes it worse and it's cheer poison to bare during winters when everything is huge white space and moving around in this hellish enviroment with flashing afterimages have made me wonder like how others bare with it so much better. I had no idea that oh, that's just me. Others do not experience the world the same way apparently. Or see colorful afterimages if focusing to look at something too long or color swirls or sparkly swirls floating on blue sky. I noticed that I have hypersensitivity to sounds and touch as well as for light. I'm on best at dusk and night but morning, day and afternoon it's just too bright. It's too bright even on winter when daylight is max 4 hours long until it darkens. I was lucky to find bluish tinted uv protected safety glasses. I was happy with them until they fell and broke apart. Wearing those felt like something slightly fixed and not having headaches in a while. I amnot looking forward next summer. But keeping home dark as possible will luckily help.

for me maybe its a symptom of depression and fear that cause this VSS? at least i could imagine it came as an additional symptom.... hope it didnt get worse.
i could cry when walking on night through the city and see the vision which isnt sharp anymore, instead full of millions of pixels vibrating through the vision...
maybe it all startet with panic and some sort of attentions of kinda symptoms like pain in chest , allodromy cheastbreathing instead of stomachbreathing.... thats how it startet on my journey.... im afraid of all this things and my brain maybe is all the time active like a 100% on stress... and thinking. then the posture gets worse and worse. head forward round neck. im getting weaker and weaker nowadays....
maybe she is right and its a hyperactivity of brain which say to our body... stop it i need a break.... who knows...

I have noticed static from a very young age and I believe I have it because of a traumatic birth. I have all the symptoms such as static, tinnitus, extreme light sensitivity. I have been to an irlens specialist who said I have a really extreme version of the contrition as the static really decreases my quality of life as I really struggle to read and look at anything with patterns or even just flat colours. When I look at graph paper in school which is heavily patterned the static moves in the direction of the lines in the paper and I struggle to see for 15 to 30 minutes. I live in England so there is no recognition for this condition but as I’m coming up to the final exam age I need the help.

I've had visual snow all my life as far as I know, I can't remember not having it.
In light areas and in day light its not ver noticeable only if I really focus on it.
At night is very bad tho.
I came across this only syndrome only recently cause I thought that this is how everyone saw the world.
Apparently people can really see darkness huh.
I have migraines every other day and now I know that this could be a big factor in why I'm having those.
With all that said I've been experimenting with meditation. Getting myself and my brain to calm down cause I notice that my brain is all over the place. Ping ponging all over my thoughts and this is helping me to have it less. It's not gone but it is less. And that's a very important step for me.
So if anyone here has this same problem.

Got my visual snow about a year ago. When I first got it I thought I was going blind and I was terrified. I saw multiple doctors and they kept telling me everything looked fine and when I brought up visual snow they looked at me like I was crazy. It was so immensely stressful. My symptoms have been constant throughout this last year, but I have been able to accept and live with it.
There is no point going to see any doctor about it since there is no cure for it. Best thing we can do is just try our best to live normal and healthy lives, even though that can be really hard at times. I strongly believe that this condition stems from trauma/stress. I developed it after exiting a very abusive relationship. Some of the things that I witnessed changed me, and eventually lead me to have visual snow. I have read stories of people recovering after a long time of changing their lifestyles completely. I for one am not social, I have a bad diet, and I don't get a lot of sleep. If I can change all of that and maintain a positive lifestyle, I feel like it will go away.
    I truly believe that.

Andrew. While we have effectively worked with people with VS, It wouldn’t matter what else you tried if your lifestyle does not support the desired outcome.

im sorry every time i hear someone mention "detoxify" in a medical context outside of addictions they've lost all credibility.
if you arent working with the visual snow initiative, i suggest you get on that.
theres been a whole lot of woo about how to treat or even "cure" visual snow syndrome by eating differently or reducing intake of certain drinks or "detoxifying the body and reduce inflammation."
I also don't think this is something someone with a speciality in vision care has much to say on in terms of possible treatments as visual snow syndrome is a neurological disorder and has nothing to do with the eyes.

    • @visontherapy
