Visual Snow Syndrome: What we see

  • PLEASE SEE UPDATED VERSION: • Visual Snow Syndrome: ...
The Visual Snow Syndrome (VSS) is a rare condition that mostly affects our visual perception. The symptoms are varied, strange and can be hard to describe. It can feel like hallucinations and make us doubt our sanity, especially when doctors can't find anything wrong with our eyes.
It has now been shown that it is a neurological condition. Research is ongoing to hopefully uncover ways to diagnose it and treat it. In the meantime, diagnosis relies on our description of symptoms, which can be difficult.
This is why I made this video. Based on my own experience, I attempt to show some of the most common visual symptoms of this debilitating condition.
WARNING: Some images can be triggering for light-sensitive people.

i have most of these at a minor level, the blue field entoptic phenomenon is quite strong and constant whenever i look at the sky, it covers almost my entire vision that can see the sky.
this video also made me realise that i experience pattern distortions occasionally. most commonly i've seen it when im on hills or driving and i stop the car at an angle or on a slope, i see the road becoming longer as if the car is rolling backwards, but no one else sees it

I want to share my experience of how I mistakenly believed that I had Visual Snow. My vision decreased after stress and I began to see poorly in the dark, especially there were ripples (pixels like 240p video quality). I thought I was suffering from VSS and saw flickering dots on the wall and other similar objects in the dark, but not in the entire field of view, but only on certain objects. I asked my friends, relatives and other acquaintances. It turned out that they all saw it that way, some even explained it in detail. I calmed down and my symptoms decreased. And one day I met a girl who really suffered from VSS and shared her experience. It turns out that the difference between a healthy person is that he sees small dots and ripples, but only under certain conditions and with a weak intensity, while a person suffering from VSS sees constantly and throughout the entire field of vision.

@@balaji8781 Oh yes, I understand you very much. I can tell you that we 100% do not suffer from VSS, but most likely as a symptom of severe stress and anxiety that has affected our vision and perhaps the presence of OCD, which also makes us think about it and pay attention. In the dark, most likely we see ordinary internal noise, like all other people, we just became paranoid and paid attention to everything. I've heard a lot of stories about how Antidepressants restored mental health and everything went away

Yeah, I get the blue field entoptic phenomenon. That and floaters are the only symptoms I really get, although I do notice in low-light conditions there's a faint, very fine, grainy static effect. The blue field entoptic phenomenon is also something I notice with other plain surfaces, like a white wall or flat cloudy sky.
That's the extent of the visual snow stuff for me. I normally don't notice the entoptic phenomenon unless I'm looking at a blank surface or the sky. Same with floaters.

I'm crying.... I had no idea anyone else had this in the severity AND in the symptom-clusters like that. I say cluster"S", but in my personal experience I perceive the phenomena to be singular, "a cluster" but No-one REALLY believes it's real and not just "my need for attention" and they can't even truly comprehend. I experience reality in a way completely alien to 90% of fellow mankind. That by itself is not a bad thing, the trouble I find is that there are not even WORDs that accurately and adequately describe the subject matter. It is true ESP. EXTRA Sensory Perception. Not telepathy. Nor telekinesis. Just experiencing sensory stimuli in a manner outside of it's "chain of command"... Idk if that made at sense It's so hard to try to make sense... Like experiencing sharp pains from a location that's 2 ft in front of ur head and slightly to the right. The pain has a radius and if you split the pain into 3rds, not like a pie chart but much like a bull's-eye with concentric circles, like the layers of Earth. Crust, Mantle, Core. The crust and core are normal neighboring spacial locations with no physical location in between. Yet I feel stimuli in the mantle, which would logically be between crust and core, instead I feel it externally out in the empty area out in front of me. Much like feeling the phantom pain of an amputated limb... Brains are so bizarre and consciousness is unnerving....I think I have been blessed with a myriad of different understandings of every day solutions and their problems.i get to see "the dark side of the moon" if you will pardon my .. I understand so much more than most because I get to learn from the mistakes of normal people and then I compare what I see and BAM, I understand it deeply...

Also used to suffer a lot (but less as I got older) with green circles in my vision, especially when waking up.
I feel like i do have that objects appearing even when they’re no longer there thing, but I thought everyone had that.
And text sometimes gets random flashes on it, but words rarely jumble around.

I see static vision, though it doesn't hassle me. But have you ever experienced staring at one point, especially in the dark, and then those small dots, like glitters, gather around into a big lump? It looks like a portal, and it feels like you are getting sucked into it. Also, if I keep on staring, it will block my vision. It also happens even when I close my eyes. I can stop it by changing my eye perspective, I mean, looking at a different point. If I close my eyes, then those glitters merge, and when I open my eyes, I can see them blocking my vision.
-Ghosting: When I was a child, I thought I could see their spirits, lol, but mine is not that dense.
-Starbursts: I really hate this, especially at night. I have astigmatism, so that's why.
-Pulsating vision: This happens only when I'm stressed out, and I can feel my eyes beating and flickering.
-Floaters: They didn't really concern me, as I think everyone has them. Although, I was afraid because I started to develop a black one.
-Self-light of the eye: This is what I talk about when I look at one point, especially closing my eyes. It looks like this, but mine is circular and moving outward, usually in colors like purple, green, or maroon.
-Pattern distortions: I don't know if it's considered one, as it only happens on escalators. Seeing the pattern of the escalator makes me dizzy, as it looks like it's moving up and down, making me nauseous.

Isn‘t a little visual snow normal? I experience „static“ when i look at blank objects like a wall, especially in the dark. It’s a very mild black or transparent „flickering“ more like a shadow. And in the dark i also don’t see perfectly black and objects perfectly sharp, i see it flickering a little bit. Not when closing my eyes though.

When i am driving in my car and the car on front of me brakes and I look into the red lights, i still see them 10 Minutes after when I close my eyes or blink.
When i close my Eyes I begin to see this purple/blue fog coming, and when I focus i see faces and things forming out of them, sometimes my own face, i am not joking.
When I am walking on paved floor it is if like the lines move in and out, like a glitching video game

Your brain will eventually filter them out. If you see a LOT of them, though, you should consult an ophthalmologist, as it could be a sign of Retinal Detachment, in the worst cases. It's probably not your case, but you should consult just to make sure.

Look on the bright side! When you close your eyes at night, there's a light show, an increase in visual memory with afterimages. Lastly, sometimes I associate this disease with space and the universe. Stars and the big bang, it's funny, but it reminds me of that. Maybe we're in the matrix universe, and there's a problem with our perception cables, what do you think? :D

If you're talking about the static, the video might not be showing it as strong as I wanted, sorry about that.
As far as the other symptoms, it's actually what defines the Syndrome.
Some people only see the snow, which is an issue in itself, but the VS Syndrome combines neurological symptoms on top of the static. Please see the current diagnostic criteria here: www.visualsnowinitiative.org/diagnostic-criteria/
