It's crazy you are starting with this song (not bad crazy just wild), because this is one of the biggest, most iconic, baddest, revered rock singers ever. He had a HUGE grunge/metal band called Soundgarden, and later sung in Audioslave, where the band was the members of Rage Against the Machine. The equivalent of watching this first is if you were to watch Michael Jackson for the first time covering a Soundgarden song 😆
"Don't know if he's just a cover artist".... 😭. I felt physical pain hearing this. But seriously he's amazing and has a massive back log of his own brilliant songs solo and with great bands too... I think he used to just do a lot of acoustic cover stuff at gigs for fun.
Chris Cornell is absolutely stunning. He had a 4-octave vocal range. He first became known to the world as the lead singer and rhythm guitarist for the band Soundgarden (1984.) He released his first solo album in 1999, but was with Audioslave from 2001 until 2007. He left us prematurely in May, 2017 (age 52.)
Don't Forget Temple of Dog tribute project & song Hunger Strike w/ Eddie Vedder and what became Pearl Jam!! Are the dates online correct-- did Chris form Soundgarden when he was 20 yrs old in 1984 but it took them like 10 yrs until had commercial success? Seems kind of impossible given his level of musicianship
I feel like you reacted to Audioslave and Soundgarden. That’s Chris Cornell the singer from both those bands and one of the greatest rock voices in history!
Honestly, I love Chris Cornell's singing and voice, but, on the first couple of Audioslave records, it's (unnecessarily) ruined by Autotune, to a point where it's incredibly distracting. Probably not his or the band's fault, just a bad production choice (that was the decade when they started plastering Autotune onto everything, even naturally gifted singers, which is criminal, in my book -the track in this video is proof enough that he was an exceptional live singer.) It's made worse by the fact that the technology back then was new, and you can really tell, on most releases from that decade. Same with Amy Lee from Evanescence; amazing vocalist, unnecessarily and criminally autotuned (at least on that record back when they had their big break.)
You’re gonna love going down the Chris Cornell rabbit hole, he never misses. Check out his bands soundgarden and audioslave. For his solo work, check out “sunshower” has a vibe very similar to this tune here.
He does have his own songs. Here's some songs by him you should try listening to along with the band he was in when he sang them. 1. Fell on black days by Soundgarden 2. Cochise by Audioslave 3. Rusty Cage by Soundgarden 4. Like a stone by Audioslave 5. Black hole sun by Soundgarden 6. I am the highway by Audioslave 7. Outshined by Soundgarden 8. Show me how to live by Audioslave
R.I.P. to Chris Cornell, one of my favorite artists of all time from his solo stuff, to Soundgarden, to Temple of the Dog, to Audioslave...just everything is phenomenal, I miss him 😥
He was and still to this day a amazing artist. You Definitely need to check out Temple of the dogs hunger strike. Chris cornell voice along with Eddy Vedder from Pearl Jam, complimented each other so well. You love it.
I saw in an interview that musicians in the industry said that if Chris Cornell covered your song that it became his song because the raw emotion & angst he always sang with. #RIPChrisCornell
You will love his rendition of Nothing Compares 2U....best male rock voice ever. Outshined from Soundgarden. He was also in a compilation band with Pearl Jam called Temple of the Dog. Hunger Strike is their most popular song
His daughter covers some of his songs like hunger strike and she did a version of nothing compares 2 you with his version as a duet. She has a really beautiful voice as well.
He was the lead singer of grunge powerhouse Soundgarden, the amazing Audioslave, and teamed up with Pearl Jam's lead singer Eddie Vedder (and other members) to co-lead sing with the tribute band Temple of the Dog. Soundgarden: "Fell On Black Days", "Jesus Christ Pose", "Outshined", "The Day I Tried To Live" Audioslave: "Cochise", "Getaway Car", "I Am The Highway", "Shadow On The Sun" Temple of the Dog: "Hunger Strike", "Say Hello 2 Heaven", "Like A Dog" This is a rabbithole you need to fall ALL THE WAY DOWN!
One of the greatest vocalists and THE GREATEST frontman to have ever walked the earth. To have been alive at the same time, though still too short a time, was a gift.
I grew up as a kid with Michael Jackson doing that, and I swear to God man, I never had any idea whatsoever what that song was about. I mean I thought it was incredible with the melody and the Rhythm and the vocal registers and all that stuff. But when I finally heard Chris Cornell do it about 10 years ago, it just hit me like a ton of bricks. So emotional. He really took a story and made it real with just his voice and an acoustic guitar. That guy was so talented man. Rest in power Chris.
Chris Cornell was such an incredible vocalist. Hearing him still gives me chills. Thanks for the video! I love that people are still enjoying the gifts he gave the world~
Chris Cornell is a legend. His voice could reach four octaves. A one-of-kind voice that this world will never see again. He was in some amazing bands, and has a great solo career as well. He left us way too soon, but his music lives on. He did enjoy doing some covers at times too. You’ll love learning more about this Rock Legend!! RIP Chris Cornell
I like actually laughed out loud when he says "let me know if he's a cover artist or has his own content". Hey not your fault. I think he's a got a couple originals laying around. Still giggling.
Thanks for your reaction! From Bulgaria - Europe! Actually you already reacted to his band Soungarden - Rusty cage! Chris is one of the great voices of our time! Unique tone and range! Also wonderful songwriter. Please react to his song "When I'm Down" - Troubadour, January 29 2010 , Say hello 2 heaven, Soundgarden's - Beyond the wheel live 2017, Audioslave's - Cochise, Temple of the dog - Hunger strike...RIP to my favorite musician! Chris Cornell - "No one sings like you anymore"
Sweet euphoria. And cover of nothing compares to you.will me you cry oh how beautiful and soulful and powerful. The best I've ever heard as far as a male vocalist. He could effortlessly 🤧 give to you any way you want it. I feel blessed to have seen him do this in person I couldn't feel the ground the entire show .life-changing I'll never hear anyone better in my life time .rip I miss you every day. Much love peace.
He did a great cover of 'Nothing Compared to you' and his group Audoislave did a banger of a cover of "Seven Nation Army" (but I think you can only find that video as concert video. RIP Chris Cornell.
Chris Cornell had one of the most powerful and beautiful voices i have ever heard. When you have the time sit down and listen to the tribute CD Temple Of The Dog. It’s mind blowing in so many ways. Sadly, Chris hung himself on May 18th, 2017. One never knows where artists get their emotion from, sometimes it’s not a good place. RIP Mr. Cornell. You are missed.
You have heard this artist before. As someone else said, he’s the lead singer of Audioslave, who I know you’ve reacted to (which also features Tom Morello from Rage Against the Machine on guitar), and also Soundgarden, who you should absolutely react to. Chris Cornell is one of the best rock vocalists ever. It was a sad, sad day when we lost him. Depression is a bitch. Edit: added the bit about Tom Morello
His homage to Prince is breathtaking “Nothing Compares 2 U” and I have been a fan of his for years! S. I.P. to a master. Voice is the only instrument that is fashioned by God🙏🏻
His rendition of "Nothing Compares to You" is another outstanding cover! Give a listen to "Scream". For some movie trivia. He's the only male solo artist to sing a James Bond theme song, "Do You Know My Name" from Casino Royale...
I hope you check out his other stuff. The soundtrack of middle school years, soundgarden. He was the singer of audioslave, which is the band from rage against the machine with Cornell as lead vocals. Another great solo song is Nearly Forgot My Broken Heart.
The first time he sings "the kid is not my son" and strums is almost heartbreaking. I dont know if I'm reading too much into his broken childhood (if you know, you know). It hits different. Not very often we get a cover that dossnt just elevate...but changes the whole meaning.
Hell yea he had vocal power. I saw Soundgarden 5x. Chris Cornell and his Soundgarden bandmates peeled paint off walls with their unique sound and top notch musicianship.
Sound garden and audio slave. His voice is soothing and powerful. My favorite singer of this generation. I miss him! You can’t go wrong listening to the first audio slave album take your pic. He’s a rocker at heart! So be ready.
Great reaction! Chris is my favorite and my favorite performance of his ever is his solo song When I’m Down live at the Troubadour. He is a prolific songwriter. I’m pretty sure you’ve reacted to him before. His was one of the ‘founders’ of grunge with his band Soundgarden. He had a one off album Temple of the Dog and was in Audioslave with members of Rage Against the Machine not to mention wonderful solo career and many soundtrack songs to movies. 🙂
I've been watching MrLboyd reactions for awhile. Had no idea this whole time he has never heard of Chris Cornell. Man.. Looking forward to his reactions on soundgarden, temple of the dog, audioslave, solo stuff etc... So many good reactions coming up me thinks!
When Hope and Promise Fade (Recorded Live at Queen Elizabeth Theatre, Toronto ON) and Wide Awake (Live in Stockholm) are two great songs and two of my personal favorites. Wide Awake is a tribute to the survivors of Hurricane Katrina.
I wish he was still alive to do more covers! It was a sad day to hear he was no longer with us on earth but I have a feeling he is in the choir for the most high!
Chris Cornell - Won (Metallica lyrics sung to U2 melody ) it’s incredible There’s tons of his solo stuff Not to mention soundgarde/Audioslave/Temple of the dog stuff Have fun down the rabbit hole
Chris Cornell was and still is an American Treasure!! You should hear him do Prince's NOTHING COMPARES TO YOU!! but also any of his stuff from Soundgarden and Audioslave!!
He was the front man for Soundgarden and Audioslave. He has a deep solo career as well. One of the GOATs. =)
Agreed...Chris Cornell is my favorite singer in all of rock history.
The goat imo
Temple of the Dog had Cornell and Eddie Vedder together. Great music.
RIP
Goat
and the next solo one should be his cover of Nothing Compares to U
Was about to suggest the same thing
Legend.
I agree 💯

"I don't knoe if he's a cover artist"
bro, we are talking about one of the best rock n'roll voices of ALL TIME.
“I would definitely be interested in hearing more of his renditions…”
Same, sir. Same. :(
#RIP Chris Cornell 🙏🏽 No one sings like you any more
Neither does Chester Bennington. His death devastated me.
His acoustic version of "Nothing Compares to You" is magic
Agree 💯
Absolutely!
Dude, Chris Cornell is one of the greatest vocalists to come out of the Seattle scene. Dive deep my friend.
Right up there with Layne Staley. RIP.

Chris Cornell could sing the phone book and be great❤ R.I.P. Chris💙
"Don't know if he's just a cover artist".... 😭. I felt physical pain hearing this.
But seriously he's amazing and has a massive back log of his own brilliant songs solo and with great bands too... I think he used to just do a lot of acoustic cover stuff at gigs for fun.
that comment he made was so funny. but it will only make his rabbit hole journey much more surprising!
Johnny Cash covered a Soundgarden song which means the great ones cover the great ones.

I feel like you reacted to Audioslave and Soundgarden. That’s Chris Cornell the singer from both those bands and one of the greatest rock voices in history!
One of the best songs to truly hear him sing is Be Yourself.
100% agree. RIP Chris.
Yesssss
Love that one!
Honestly, I love Chris Cornell's singing and voice, but, on the first couple of Audioslave records, it's (unnecessarily) ruined by Autotune, to a point where it's incredibly distracting. What a haunting version. You will like and truly appreciate the range of his voice. RIP Chris.😥
You’re gonna love going down the Chris Cornell rabbit hole, he never misses. Check out his bands soundgarden and audioslave. For his solo work, check out “sunshower” has a vibe very similar to this tune here.

Rest in peace Chris Cornell A great musician, composer and beautiful spirit. Member of Soundgarden and Audioslave.
You will love his rendition of Nothing Compares 2U....best male rock voice ever. Outshined from Soundgarden. He was also in a compilation band with Pearl Jam called Temple of the Dog. Hunger Strike is their most popular song
His rendering of "Nothing Compares to You" (Prince). One of my favorites.
His daughter covers some of his songs like hunger strike and she did a version of nothing compares 2 you with his version as a duet. She has a really beautiful voice as well.
Chris's version sounds like it should be the original. Another cover from him is "Nothing Compares 2 U." His original work is amazing too.
He also does a phenomenal version of The Beatles A Day In The Life
Yes more of him
You need to check out Chris' cover of "Nothing Compares to You" and the live cover/mashup "One"
He was the lead singer of grunge powerhouse Soundgarden, the amazing Audioslave, and teamed up with Pearl Jam's lead singer Eddie Vedder (and other members) to co-lead sing with the tribute band Temple of the Dog.

His voice was amazing. Just a huge presence, even just him and a guitar.
Chris is literally a god of a vocalist, and one of my biggest vocal inspirations as a musician. Legitimate plea here; more Cornell
Listen to Nothing Compares To You by Chris Cornell. He's got so much great stuff!
I’d love to see what you think of his song “Like A Stone” that he did with Audio Slave. We lost an icon when Chris Cornell passed away💔

I like actually laughed out loud when he says "let me know if he's a cover artist or has his own content". Hey not your fault. I think he's a got a couple originals laying around. Still giggling.
Lol. *just* a couple. Might be a few plaques and such being kicked around a week, eh?
😂😂😂 I was pretty amused at that comment when I got to the end too! He’s going to be amazed the further he goes!!
5 octave phenom. If you have not peeped his cover of Princ's. "Nothing compared to you" it's amazing.

Chris was an amazing singer and musician. We lost a piece of the soul of music when he passed.
Rest in peace Chris. You will always be missed.

One of the greats to come out during my youth. His death hit me hard. RIP.
