Probably one of the most important vocals in rock history. His range is legendary and whether he was singing original music or covers he owned whatever song he was singing. He is missed by legions of fans, including me.
Chris Cornell whether it’s Soundgarden audioslave (I am the highway) or his solo work 🔥🔥🔥🔥 nobody compares to u. Redemption song with his daughter 🔥❤️🔥❤️
Chris Cornell's voice is one of the most powerful voices you will ever hear. You can feel his emotion in everything, and his voice is completely in it's own league. You KNOW when you hear him, that it's him. You can literally pick ANY song he performs, and you will enjoy it. So glad you are on this content
I refer to Cornell as like a change machine at the laundromat you put in a 20 and you get all quarters. When he listens to a song he takes it in and dissects it breaks it down and it’s way way more beautiful.
Hearing Chris sing this song makes me feel like this is an old blues folk song. MJ put his spin on it and made history. But, Chris brought it back to its roots and you feel the pain in the lyrics. I'm probably totally wrong but that's my head cannon and I'm sticking to it.
PLEASE react to Cochise by Audioslave. Chris fronts the band (the band is all the members of Rage Against the Machine without Zack, their singer). It will show you the power and control of his voice. I also love Soundgarden's Rusty Cage, Spoonman. But also definitely worth checking out is Nothing Compares to U, written by Prince. I hope to see you two go down the Chris Cornell rabbit hole. I really don't think you'll regret it!
Chris does a great cover using the lyrics of Metallica's song "One", to the music of U2's song "One". He also does covers of John Lennon's "Imagine", Led Zeppelin's "Thank You", Bob Marley's "Redemption Song", The Beatles "A Day in the Life" and Prince's "Nothing Compares to you". All are fire.
Hopefully you guys are entering the Chris Cornell rabbit hole. One of, arguably the best, rock singers in history. Just pick stuff at random and you'll be amazed at his range.
This is a cover but Chris is a rock icon fronting 3 bands as lead singer/songwriter. Soundgarden, Temple of the Dog, Audioslave and many solo projects/movie Soundtrack songs. He’s always on lists of best rock vocalists of all time. Check out Sound-garden’s Spoonman, Fell on black days. Audioslaves Like a Stone. Temple of the Dogs Hunger Strike. 🙂
@@maawdawg I know he recorded it before her, but it was released after her version was released. Either way the song is so beautifully written that any genre of music can make it their own. So amazing🙌🤘🖤
This version always makes me think that this song was written as a personal story of Chris Cornell's.. and he was the one who went through all the pain, the confusion, the worry, the denial.. and that Michael Jackson was the one who did an upbeat pop cover of it. It's a testament to both of them as artists. MJ as a songwriter and CC pulling it apart.. and adding so much soul, vulnerability, and pain.
Totally agree that I never really appreciated the lyrics to this song until this version. MJ gave us the song but Chris makes you feel like he's living it.
A terrifying feeling from the same lyrics that Michael Jackson sang (and wrote) only sung slower, and in Chris Cornell style) revealing, for a guy, being accused by a woman, he had danced with,(on the Floor ,in the round) that she is claiming her baby (a son) is his, and that he’s the father. “For forty days and forty nights The law was on her side But who can stand when she's in demand Her schemes and plans 'Cause we danced on the floor in the round” A haunting cover by Cornell. Not too mention his unique voice. And his crossing over a pop dance hit, to a heavier rock n roll audience. Genius!
The Michael Jackson version makes you want to get out on the dance floor at a wedding, Chris Cornell’s version makes you want to take a paternity test and possibly a dna 🧬 test too. Same song two vastly different interpretations
RIP to Chris. Another fabulous gem taken way too soon. Four of the 5 biggest grunge bands from 90s all gone (Layne Staley of Alice in Chains, Chris Cornell of Soundgarden, Kurt Cobain of Nirvana, and Scott Weiland of Stone Temple Pilots).
He sing Billie Jean like has been BillieJean'd when Michael sang it no one thought it was Mike's son everyone was like "yes Mike we know it's not your son" but when Chris sings it, it's like been BillieJean'd 4 real.
Chris is an amazing singer. The day i heard he died was one of the saddest of my life. He spoke to me. He sang that it was alright to be not okay. You can swim against the stream, and be depressed, it was okay, even NORMAL. The
Check out I am the Highway & Getaway Car. I heard another musician say that when Chris Cornell covered your song it became his song because he could put more emotion into it than even the original performer, that says a ton about the kind of singer Chris was.
Needless to say, MJ is a legend. To be willing to risk changing on of his iconic tunes takes major stones and you need to nail it if you do indeed try. Chris was one of the very few who could attempt it.
Chris Cornell did a bunch of covers thats really good. This one is the best one to me. He had a way to make songs his own while still making tribute to the original artist and his voice is magical. I usually dont like covers but Chris Cornell and Aurora Aksnes are two artists that makes it really good.
This version, slowed down with the lyrics up front and the pain in the voice, made me realize how on another level with story telling in song Michael Jackson was. RIP to both artists.
You guys have to do his accoustic songs , scream, imagine, thank you, nothing compares to you. Chris s voice was a gift from God gone waaaay too soon. Playing nightly for Jesus now. Can’t wait to see it
Chris had this unique ability to make you feeel what he was singing. His ability to do that was soo strong he could take a pop song like Billie Jean and basically turn it into a song youd believe he was singing about himself or about a relationship he had. Listening to this cover of Billie Jean you BELIEVE what hes saying, its not just some catchy tune where you dont even know what the details of the affair or relationship were.
You can feel every syllable and note and it sounds like the word and expression he is making ,, he said that since the late 80s and we knew it ,. Gen X
Happy you choose that version, because I find it better than the one on his album. I think it was his frist public performance of the song, before the album, and still for me the better version.
"Audio slave" was the super band composed of bass, drummer and guitar from "rage against the machine". Check out "like a stone, Cochise, heck check them all out from "audio slave"!!!!!!!! 🔥 🔥 🔥
Chris Cornell had so many bangers it's hard to pick one song. But you have to check out the video with him and AudioSlave called "Cochise" straight up 🔥
Not hard to pick 1, I love pretty much all of his music, Audioslave, soundgarden, his solo work... but without a doubt my favorite is like a stone Audioslave
You guys have to check out the live version that he does with a backing band, it's a little faster but rocks a lot harder, I know that you will enjoy it much more.
Layne Staley aic & Cornell are the two I It’s the most. Thank God I saw all these guys back in the day. Talk about one of the best concerts ever would be lollapalooza 1991-1993
Like the previous commenter said
His cover of Prince's nothing compares to you is simply beautiful...I still get goosebumps when I listen to it.
That's the one for me too!!!!!
Prince gave it to Sinead o'connor and it blew up because of her beautiful voice and interesting appeal.
Every... Single... Time... Chills...
I like his soundchecks and other covers
This man's voice was fkn gold. He made so much good music with Soundgarden and then as the lead singer of Audioslave. Definitely worth diving into

It wasn’t some cover artist. This is a rock legend who just decided to have some fun and cover songs late in his career.

Chris Cornell is the goat of any genre of music!!! Should check out Audioslave if haven't already
Probably the best male vocalist of the last 25 years
Ever
David Phelps, but Chris is right behind him.

IMO I like this better than the original. It's so powerful
It's completely different and not comparable.
