@@douglascampbell9809 the vid is on Chris Cornell, so I singled him out. I get your meaning though. The list is far too long to mention them all by name. I could add Chester Bennington and Amy Winehouse to that list too. Sadly, the list just in music is far too big. That doesn’t include other artists like writers or other giants in their field, like Alan Turing. Imagine where we’d be if Alan Turing had lived a long life. Every artist deserves a mention somewhere, but the tragedies are on too grand of a scale to do them justice in a UA-cam comment.

@@tonyb7615 you need to do some research before you slander a dead man, Chris didn't do heroin, read the autopsy results, very little drugs were found in his system, therapeutic levels of sleeping pills that's all. He was a tortured man.
Some of the songs Chris did are so haunting now that he's gone. Lyrics like "no one sings like you anymore", "And he hurt so bad like a soul breakin', but he never said nothing to me", "the sky was your playground, but the cold ground was your bed", and really this whole song. Chris was a force of nature. And you're so right about mental health. If you're in those dark times, just don't give up. Those dark times show us who we are. So please hang in there, and get the help you need. Thank you for your reaction, and for giving me an excuse to hear Chris sing this song one more time. RIP brother
The first time I listened to Audioslave's debut after he was gone when the chorus of "Shadow of the Sun" hit And I can tell you why People die alone I lost it.
I'm not one who shows a lot of emotion, and I rarely shed a tear. I cannot listen to Chris' version of this song without crying. It's heartbreaking. Your analysis was spot on, this isn't about technique, it's about emotion, and Cornell pours it out here. Thanks Elizabeth! Alway enjoy your content!
I feel this way with pretty much every acoustic song Chris has done. Just such an amazing talent. He's the one artist I wish I could bring back more than anything.
I'm the same way and feel this 💯. Chris will always be my favorite vocalist and his death impacted me extremely hard. When Chester took his life, my heart was torn! 2 of the most talented vocalists that got me through decades of pain and emotion and still does to this very day. 2 people that can't be replaced.
The part where he somberly sings about how all the flowers she planted died when she went away always gets me, but for some reason, most reactors don't even mention it. Another of our Seattle musical icons tragically gone far too soon.
His death was the only time I cried over the death of a musical artist. His brilliant light and his amazing talent are deeply missed. Nothing compares to you Chris. RIP.
I was more mad than sad at Chris' suicide. It's not logical, but emotions rarely are. It was such a waste of talent, not to mention all the people he left behind, hurt and sad and wondering why. I'd played a few Soundgarden songs in various local bands or just in jam sessions, but I don't anymore since Chris killed himself. It doesn't feel right. I cried when I heard Dimebag Darrell was murdered. I'd seen Pantera twice, once in 1999 opening for Sabbath and once in 2001, and he was so much fun to watch, so great to listen to live. He clearly loved playing for the fans; his joy was infectious. His death hit me like a ton of bricks.
and i was so mad at him, he had it all, the talent, the looks, a beautiful wife and kids, i think his finances were fine too, so wtf killing your self, i don t understand, but i heard he took medication against his anxieties, with sideeffect that you don t care about living, so sad
I have no idea how many times I had listened to Metallicas version and just jammed out everytime. Now, after hearing Chris Cornells version, I'm sick to my stomach. His version is so powerful and heart breaking.
Cornell was one of the very few vocalists where every time he sang it was pure emotion. Nothing ever felt forced, or even like he's making an effort to sing. It's just like his vocals were a direct conduit to his soul. Expression in it's most primal form.
When he sings that living with him is sometimes hard, it feels like he's dredging up every ounce of that depression and laying it bare. It gets me every time.
I feel you man. My fiance and mother of my daughter passed away in December. I have let more than a few tears flow to this since. Best of luck in your journey forward.
I met Chris briefly in a restaurant briefly in 2004 or 2005 while visiting with a friend in Seattle. He was chilling with a friend and my friend recognized him and said "That's Chris Cornell" and he wanted to go over and talk to him. I said "Let's chill and buy him a drink"... so we bought him a drink and when he was done talking to his friend he came over and shook both of our hands thanking us for the drink... he just gave off this really true and genuine vibe.... because of that experience...I have always viewed him as a very true and genuine person.
You've hit the nail on the head. Chris was SO emotive in his vocal style. Soundgarden was a cathartic release that got me through some tough times, and his passing still stings.
I still can't listen to this without tearing, even with Elizabeth pausing. The emotion is so full, so emergent. It's been years now, but... I STILL can't get over the fact that he is gone.
The loss of Chris and then Chester shortly after was devastating to many of us, especially those of us who use music as our therapy more than anything else. I have seen so many of my musical idols come and go, and it can get extremely difficult and it can make it seem like the dark times never end, but they do, you just have to keep pushing forward a little at a time.
That made Chris's death my 'hardest hitting celeb loss', because it made such a wave of impact across not just the listeners, but other musicians themselves.
The yodel is exactly what it feels like when you're trying to talk but you're getting choked up and begin to cry. I'm pretty sure that's what Chris was going for hear. God I miss him.
I can't listen to this song without tearing up. Prince, Sinead, and Chris were 3 of my most favorite artists that gave me so much comfort in my times of need. Now they're all lost to us. I hope they're all in a better place.
I love this song. No matter who sings it, it really has a part in my heart, my soul. Prince really wrote this song, and he did an AMAZING JOB writing it. Thank you to Prince for blessing us all with wonderful creation. And thank you to Chris for doing a wonderful job in singing this. I miss you both to Prince and Chris.
your response to Chris' singing is how i've felt about it for the last 20+ years ... there's a hidden switch deep inside my soul and he is one of the very few to have flipped it through his voice
Will never forgot Eddie Vedder's solo-concert right after Chris died. He lost his great friend and still played amazingly. Everyone could feel his pain.
when Eddie performed "Black" with just him and a guitar and he says "come back" a few times in the end...the most heartbreaking thing I have ever seen. the amount of pain in that man's voice and eyes was just..wow.
I saw Eddie at the Hammersmith in London when he opened up about Chris's death... tbh, cried like a baby. I sat there sobbing. Eddie was heartbroken, and so were we. Even typing this makes me cry.... that's how hard it hits hey. :(
As a grown man, i am not embarrassed to say this performance brings a tear to my eye every time I hear it. I was lucky enough to see Chris play with Soundgarden and on his solo tour for Higher Truth with my son. Seeing him in such a small venue only a few rows from the stage was unforgettable and I am so glad to have shared it with my son. Thank you Chris!
Chris Cornell’s talent was extraordinary. Not only his singing but his songwriting, his deep lyrics. He is like the most beautiful comet I’ve ever witnessed. I feel blessed to have lived at the same time as him. Saw him live solo and in every band of his. He never disappointed, always left me speechless and like I was in Heaven.
As a mental health survivor myself, I want to thank you for sharing your support to our wellbeing. I lost my fiance 3 years ago to depression, and it's still a gut punch every morning. This song hits a little different every time I hear it.
Thank you, David. Kirk, my husband, is a 2x suicide survivor. Mental health is so important, and he's living proof that one can fight their way out of the pits of depression, even if he still feels their claws trying to pull him back on a daily basis. Thank you for sharing, and I appreciate you!

As a psychologist, I am so grateful, Elizabeth, for your personal sharing and shout out for mental health and therapy. You are amazing to use your platform for this. Thank you!
@@Luke-391 Wow, seriously? I can't understand how you could take issue with this. Elizabeth basically just says: Chris struggled with his mental health --> I, personally have struggled with my own mental health --> Hey viewers, if you're struggling with your mental health , here's an organization that might be able to help you. Please take care of yourselves. It's perfectly appropriate, it's not like she's hocking hard seltzers, or the latest QLED TV here. Do you think she would seek out a sponsor like betterhelp in the hopes they rained down money on her channel? Do you think she does these videos to get rich? She obviosly loves making them, and already has a successful career anyway. People need to stop constantly looking for the negative in everything.
@@ryanlamanna1612 And who are you helping by only seeing the positive? Except for yourself. She mentions mental health only to segue into her sponsor, which she got paid for. So I replied to the psychologist who was 'so grateful' for that. What a joke. Get real.
@@Luke-391 Oof, you're missing the point. I don't only see positive, and I'm not helping anyone, it's not about me. (was kinda trying to help you but clearly failed) If you have a problem with content providers using advertising... I don't know what to tell you, that's the foundation of the entire UA-cam platform. We get free videos in exchange for watching ads. But again, this isn't some consumer product she's shilling to turn a quick profit. It's an organization that tries to help people in need. And a topic that relates directly to her personally, as well as to the subject of this particular video. If Cornell had starved to death, and the sponsor was a food bank, would you still be this cynical about it? If you want to scoff and turn up your nose at the capitalism of it all, look no further than the description above, where she has links to sell her own merch, and to plug the manufacturers of her headphones and even her chair! But to insist that she chose *this* sponsor for *this* video purely out of avarice seems intentionally obtuse. It's just a weird hill to die on, dude. I admit there's a chance that she's a soulless, money hungry LLC, just in it for the clicks and riches. I accept that I might be competely wrong about her intentions, I'm just asking that you do the same. Look, I'm sure at some point in your life you've helped someone just because they needed it, not for any personal gain. Think back to that time (or times) and remember why you did it and what you felt like, and try to imagine that maybe someone else could do the same thing. Have a great day.
Chris's death was a massive loss for the world. His performances were drenched in emotion, as is evidenced by this performance. He was definitely one of the best vocalists of a generation. I'm grateful I was able to see him live when Soundgarden was touring behind the "Superunknown" album.
"The emotions haven't resolved so the music shouldn't either" - wow, I never picked up on that until you said it, so incredibly insightful and the most profound of observations, well done!
I've seen Chris live and nothing is unintentional about the way he sings. His composition of this song was done specifically to show the raw emotion (his) or how it affected him. I'm so grateful he did because he sung it in such a way so many people could relate ❤️
The way the cello is bowed and the guitar is picked during the solo is so beautiful. It lulls me into this bittersweet melancholic sense of serenity. Then Chris comes in so strongly with “all the flowers that you planted mama, in your back yard” which snaps me back to reality, then he shifts back down to a breathy, broken-sounding “all died when you went away”. Makes me shed a little tear every time. Such powerful singing, one take, minimal production, pure emotion - such great music making right here. I come back to this every once in a while when I need to let out some of my sadness.
I like this Gal, shes trying to explain the power of music and how you can read a person thru it, way deeper then most understand....Rip Chris...we miss you....💔
This is my favourite version of this song. There's something just haunting about his delivery, the way he's letting that nasal sound into his voice, like he's choked up. It's heartbreaking.
Whenever I watch this performance I then have to go listen to Sweet Josephine to cheer myself up. Chris singing "Leave this endless winter behind" always makes my heart soar a little bit.
He was the greatest in terms of vocal technique in rock and roll, one of the last great musicians to orbit this planet. Cornell put his soul and his immense sensitivity into every cover, and everything he played shone like gold, is brilliant, singular, art in the purest form. "Cornell had the songwriting skills of the Beatles, the weight of Black Sabbah, and a powerful voice like Mercury. He was everything!
I was about 8 years old when I first heard Chris and Soundgarden. 1992 I belive it was. I've been a huge pearl jam and soundgarden fan for as long as I can remember. Chris and Soundgarden were a huge parts of my growing up. I didn't know how much I would miss him till he was gone. I saw soundgarden 2 weeks before his death. A master of a movement and era that we might never see again happen again. Safe to say we all Miss him. Loud Love and RIP Chris and Chester.
This version brings tears to my eyes every time! Not only do I wish I could sing like this very talented man, but the arrangement with the cello, the guitar, almost a Spanish style , the cadence , all of it makes this such a beautiful version of this song!! I love hearing him belt out, even mini belts like 14:47 ! It gives me chills! When I get into my somber modes I listen to this and Linda Perry's "It F**king Hurts" (her version at "Guitar Center"). I wish you would listen to her if you haven't! She started as the singer for 4 Non Blondes,, and as soon as I heard her voice,, I knew she was going to be a success in the music field! Her song Letter to God, that she performed on the the TV show ''The Talk" with Sharon Ozbourne, was a really emotional performance that I also wish you would get a chance to see as well!! But, she does many songs that I believe doesn't touch the range she is able to reach, very low key I believe for a woman that has the gift to grab someone with her raspy, blues style belt when she wants!! And, I have to take a minute to really applaud your mention and reach out for those in need of mental help! I am a retired cop who was on a crisis intervention unit! The amount of people who really can't handle stress, depression, and anxiety, along with negative traumatic instances in their life, is an unbelievable number! It has even taken a toll on myself many many times being there with them in my attempt to be a band-aid until I tried to get them to the help they needed! And I like to thank you for that moment of caring and help you offered in this video!!
Beyond the Wheel...Sound Soundgarden. Shows his 4 octave range...I was 6 feet way from him when he sang this live in St. Louis in 2012...crowd was going nuts, but I was frozen like the old RCA dog because I've never been that close to someone who could do that with his voice and it seem so effortless. Truly amazing
I had this same reaction when I saw Audioslave do an acoustic show just after there second Album came out. It was so touching. The only other time I felt something like that was when I saw STP in like 2000
Cris Really made every cover he sang his own, from Led Zeppelin to Micheal Jackson, and from jazz to metal he was one of the most versatile and talented musicians. Hope you do some Cris in the future not even going to request any song cause any song you chose it would be great.
@Bobb Grimley 1. I'm not the person who posted the comment. 2. As much as I love Chris Cornells version and voice I'll never forget where I was when I saw Sinead O'Connors version for the first time. I was about 12 and watching it on Top of the Pops, an iconic UK music show. It's very powerful. I hope you look at it sometime.
Nobody could sing with emotion like Chris he had a way to put himself into every song like no other it way have been he's downfall in the end the fact he was so raw all the time may have been bad for him in the long run but is why he's sounds so amazing
I've been listening to this man's vocals for three decades and he never ever ceases to amaze me. It's a damn shame we'll get nothing new from him, but there is so much he left with us to be thankful for.
Chris is my favorite. I have watched sooooo many live performances of his and my favorite by far is ‘When I’m Down’ live at the Troubadour. Just him and a piano. All the emotion, goosebumps, high notes, blues notes, etc. Ahhh so good. Check it out if even on your own time. 🙂
There is a live version of “When I’m Down” that is fantastic and heartbreaking. It’s just him and a pianist, and it’s one of his best performances in my opinion
I first fell in love with Chris Cornell’s voice in 1993, when I was a young teen in middle school. Soundgarden is still one of my favorite bands, and I grieved hard when we lost him. Please do Say Hello 2 Heaven by Temple of the Dog. Easily one of Chris’s best vocal performances. I can’t hear that song without getting emotional. Especially now that he’s gone.
His acoustic version of the Soundgarden classic "Fell On Black Days" he did at Sirius XM is still one of my favorite performances by him. It is truly a heart-wrenching, beautiful performance. He sustains a note towards the end in the acoustic set that he doesn't do in the original recording and it is just insane. The original version is amazing but the acoustic version just makes the lyrics that much more emotional, not to mention the fact that he is now no longer with us. I think you should really check it out, you won't regret it!

Only a cello can convey enough sorrow to have been paired with Chris on this song. 😭😭
Miss you, Chris.
I'm hoping for a reaction of Temple of the Dog "Say Hello to Heaven"
That song and shadow on the sun are my two favorite by him.
Yesss
THIS
I concur! My favorite Temple of the Dog song ever.
Me too, the live 1991 performance is incredible
Some of the songs Chris did are so haunting now that he's gone. Lyrics like "no one sings like you anymore", "And he hurt so bad like a soul breakin', but he never said nothing to me", "the sky was your playground, but the cold ground was your bed", and really this whole song. Chris was a force of nature. And you're so right about mental health. If you're in those dark times, just don't give up. Those dark times show us who we are. So please hang in there, and get the help you need. Thank you for your reaction, and for giving me an excuse to hear Chris sing this song one more time. RIP brother
Right??? And damn, Like a Stone and Fell on Black Days are simply heartbreaking, listening to them now... Miss him so, so much.
The first time I listened to Audioslave's debut after he was gone when the chorus of "Shadow of the Sun" hit
And I can tell you why
People die alone
I lost it.
When I heard Chris do this version I had a new appreciation of the song. With all due respect to Sinead, Chris' version touches my soul.
Same here.
It was Prince's song first. Sinead perfected it. Chris gave it soul.

RIP.
His was the second for me. Kurt was the first.
for me it was robin williams.
His death hit me like a ton of bricks.

oh for real, that voice was just so powerful, hurts to listen to him now
One of my favorite Cornell moments was his cover of “One”. When he sang the Metallica “One” lyrics and played the U2 “One” music. Crazy!!
Yep, it is stunning.
I have no idea how many times I had listened to Metallicas version and just jammed out everytime. Now, after hearing Chris Cornells version, I'm sick to my stomach. His version is so powerful and heart breaking.
Well damn Huckleberry! You've sent me down a rabbit hole...
Woah.. I had no idea about all these covers. I'll have to check out this version of... uh... "Two"?
It is pure brilliance from a genius.
Cornell was one of the very few vocalists where every time he sang it was pure emotion. Nothing ever felt forced, or even like he's making an effort to sing. It's just like his vocals were a direct conduit to his soul. Expression in it's most primal form.
Oh, how I miss his singing. No one sings like you anymore, Chris.

My wife of 29 years passed away a few months ago. This song brought all those emotions back up, I just bawled through the whole thing.
I feel you man. My fiance and mother of my daughter passed away in December. I have let more than a few tears flow to this since. Best of luck in your journey forward.
I'm so sorry for your loss.
My deepest condolences to you and yours on your loss. Stay strong and speak out when you feel the need to.
Sorry for your loss.
Oh, I’m so sorry!
All of us who know Chris, knows exactly what he did here. I miss him so much. And when a friend tries to voice their pain, please listen
I just looked in the mirror, and things are looking so good
I'm looking California, and feeling Minnesota, oh yeah
Chester had sang at Chris's funeral too.
That made Chris's death my 'hardest hitting celeb loss', because it made such a wave of impact across not just the listeners, but other musicians themselves.
Chris and Chester were working on a documentary about child abuse and child trafficing. Coincidence? Also chester looks identical to John Podesta.

I can't listen to this song without tearing up. Prince, Sinead, and Chris were 3 of my most favorite artists that gave me so much comfort in my times of need. Now they're all lost to us. I hope they're all in a better place.
Chris’s interpretation of this song hits you hard in the feels department. He is one of few that could ever do that!
It's crazy how you can feel the silence in every pause when he's singing.
Girl... This song makes me cry. And I'm a grown man
Thank you for your respect to the everything of it.
Mentioned this in the "Like a Stone" video, "Seasons" off of the Singles Soundtrack is in my humble opinion, the best song Cornell ever wrote or sang.
I think him doing "when I'm down" live at the troubadour would BLOW your socks off. It's the best thing I've ever seen him do. And it's jazzy!
My favourite Cornell song and probably the most heartbreakingly beautiful love song ever written. Excellent choice!

@@Luke-391 It does feel like capitalizing on a tragedy. And I have not heard good things about BetterHelp.
@@Luke-391 Wow, seriously? I can't understand how you could take issue with this.

Get real.

If you have a problem with content providers using advertising...
I’m already sobbing . Chris has this haunting voice that I love so much xo
This song just crushes me. The voice, the instrumentation, the delivery. Ugh. Will it ever not be "too soon" to hear this?
I still cry every time I listen to this..
Man… R.I.P. Chris Cornell. A loss that can never be replaced. A Seattle Legend Forever.
As Chris aged his voice just got better and better. Listened to him since he started and was very saddened by his demise.
"you never really knew my mind" is another great cover by Chris. Came out close to his passing and really hits home
This version just tears my heart into shreds. It always gives me chills and goosebumps. Every single time.

As I hear him sing this song...I feel so heavy in my chest...Rest in peace Chris.

The first line, Chris shows what an instrument his voice is. Amazing.
Your capacity for compassion is truly a ray of light moving across the data streams (that may be literal too). I admire your courage, and the compassion that fuels it. Such qualities are usually the result a period of profound internal struggles. Thank you for sharing and please when life derails always rember your strength and struggle well.
Thank you for your message about mental health. I’m a survivor of my own suicide attempt. I was absolutely gutted when I heard of his passing, and especially that it was by his own hand.
I've been there too man
His mash up of U2 and Metallica's 'One' is pretty amazing also. Singing the Lyrics of Metallica's One, to the Melody of U2's One. I honestly don't know how he did it, I'm sure my brain would have a melt down of some sort.
Yes, this is pure genius!
Yes. A real mind bender. Like.... how the eff?!!?
I was lucky to see this live and it just blew me away! So talented, he was a master of his craft and is sorely missed, Rest In Power Chris
I wish he could have found peace he sought here with us and his family. He truly was one of the most amazing vocalists ever IMO.
Chris and Toni Cornell sing this song beautifully together. He stays in the background and allows her to shine! A must hear.
You are making me cry again after I put it out of my mind. Now I'm back to the day of his death, but you do him justice. I love you girl!!
That version always makes me cry
Je ne connaissais pas cette reprise. C'est si beau et en même temps si mélancolique. Ça nous rappelle qu'il est parti lui aussi. Quelle tristesse ! Beaucoup d'émotions à écouter ce titre... 😢❤️
True, a lot of emotions on this song. A brillant singer, really. ❤
Hi Elizabeth, this is my first time listening to this acoustic rendition, and I loved the performance. This was such an emotional and expressive song, and I've always admired Chris' voice. I also loved the second guitar and cello accompaniment, which complemented this amazing artist. And Thank You, for acknowledging the issues w/ Mental Health conditions, and for providing the BetterHelp website, to help all those in need! Thank you, Elizabeth!!! 💙
Chris' voice was magical. I still miss him. Every single day.
