If you ask me this is the cleanest version of the 4th gen. Still not more appealing than former models, especially with the access cab / xtra cab doors not opening. No idea why they would have deleted the option of getting into the back area... But that being said the rest of the truck is cool, and the rear locking diff is a dope addition. Much more simple and more of an actual truck rather than some computer on wheels.

But there is 6ft of real estate out back with no limits on size/bulkiness. Then options like lockable tonneaus, caps, toolboxes, Thule & Yakima boxes, racks, etc. create endless possibilities. I dropped 2x6 lumber in the slots of my 1st gen Tundra and then set groceries and other purchases up behind the cab. 50 gallon Rubbermaid storage bins work too!

I own a 2006 Tacoma and it's done right! The rear seats fold completely flat and it has suicide doors for easy access. They missed the mark with the prerunner by making it xtra cab. They should have kept it as a access cab for utility as it is going to be annoying to reach for stuff in the back with the seat in the way. They also messed up by making it leave under axel as that set up reduces ground clearance and gives it less options for lift set up making it less capable for off roading. Also of course people were not using the access cab for lugging people around with such small space in the back. That is what the crew cab was made for. I bet they made those changes to cut cost but MSRP will still be more expensive than previous years with access cabs. Looks like I will be keeping my 07 Prerunner.

Extremely unfortunate that Toyota couldn't put a door or two on the back to allow for easy access to the rear cargo area. I bet that is a big reason behind the renaming of it to the Xtra Cab. Can't keep calling it the Access Cab if it is hard to access.

I'd be using the rear area for groceries, helmets and atv gear, and such. That looks like a huge pain to load and unload stuff without the rear suicide doors. They build a grab handle into the back of the seat. That should tell you that they knew is was a bad design and tried to bandaid it.
