Toyota needs to bring back the Regular Cab with just two doors and in 4X4 with manual transmission.... what a perfect truck to convert it into a camper truck....longer bed, 4X4 with mb manual.... how perfect!!!!

If you ask me this is the cleanest version of the 4th gen. Still not more appealing than former models, especially with the access cab / xtra cab doors not opening. No idea why they would have deleted the option of getting into the back area... But that being said the rest of the truck is cool, and the rear locking diff is a dope addition. Much more simple and more of an actual truck rather than some computer on wheels.
I would get the most basic bare bones 4x4 model with a manual and 6 foot bed. Maybe the SR model? Hopefully my small Dometic fridge will fit behind the seats like it does in my current first gen Tacoma.

The only downside is that the extra cab doesn’t butterfly open. Trying to put heavier items in that backspace with just pushing the front seat forwards can be a pain. This was almost an easy buy for me but I’ll have to see what the SR5 has to offer.
can you give an example of what you'd put in the backspace thats heavy, that you would prefer not to have in the bed of the truck? i'd assume it'd be something you'd want to keep secure, without having to install like a a lockable toolbox crate in the bed
@@zf1786 Precisely! There are 100's of comments regarding the loss of suicide doors and I also thought, "bummer" regarding losing easy access. But there is 6ft of real estate out back with no limits on size/bulkiness. Then options like lockable tonneaus, caps, toolboxes, Thule & Yakima boxes, racks, etc. create endless possibilities. I dropped 2x6 lumber in the slots of my 1st gen Tundra and then set groceries and other purchases up behind the cab. 50 gallon Rubbermaid storage bins work too!
I agree, without those suicide doors and a FLAT (Toyota are you listening, I said FLAT!!!) interior, it's a complete miss! I don't buy the BS that Toyota is pushing about their shitty interior. I own a 2006 Tacoma and it's done right! The rear seats fold completely flat and it has suicide doors for easy access. The flat surface makes it perfect for so many things (tool bags, groceries, etc.). Just ask Honda, they have a flat surface in their Ridgeline.
Hopefully since this is still a preproduction I hope they manages to make the passenger seat able to flip and also maintain the fold down position too it would make accessing the back a bit more easier also if they offered a 4wd drive option it would be perfect since here in Canada we do get a lot of snow

It looks like there will be a center console button to toggle the auto-stop-start feature though. which i will toggle off myself if i get this truck. more duty cycles = more wear and tear. who cares about the increased mpg's...
A lot of people really don't need 4WD. When I go on dirt roads requiring a high-clearance vehicle, RWD with a locking diff is all I need. It also eliminates lugging around over 300 pounds of unneeded hardware every day.
Being a pragmatic, I felt this one is just right for me nothing more and nothing less than what I need personally. Hopefully the price is just right, too.🤞
Only cuestion that I have is, they will offer this configuration with the rear little seats, 6 speed manual transmission and 4WD option? For the rest, I love the new gen Taco, especially with the engine, making reference on the old first Toyota Pickups with the 2.4 liter 22R, nice job with the video fella.👍🏻
They missed the mark with the prerunner by making it xtra cab. They should have kept it as a access cab for utility as it is going to be annoying to reach for stuff in the back with the seat in the way. They also messed up by making it leave under axel as that set up reduces ground clearance and gives it less options for lift set up making it less capable for off roading. Also of course people were not using the access cab for lugging people around with such small space in the back. That is what the crew cab was made for. I bet they made those changes to cut cost but MSRP will still be more expensive than previous years with access cabs. Looks like I will be keeping my 07 Prerunner.
Toyota did a Great job!! I really like the pre runner half cab! To me its a great platform to build on!! Whether it be camping , work truck or whatever!Not all folks need four doors and four seats!
I have the 2012 access cab prerunner with the 4 banger. This looks incredible, the design, the color and the fact that it’s turbocharged finally. I definitely want to get my hands on this.

I dig these unique editions and trims targeted at usefulness with simple options and a few goodies. Hopefully it’s a little more affordable than the Trail Edition, though 😅

I think the pre runner is great value looks and capability wise but those luxuries are enticing. better sound system, cooled seat, larger infotainment with the trail cameras. probably softer ride too with the upgraded shocks and rear coils
Cracks me up- I just got done watching the TFL video- and there are Nathan and Andre jivin about the high-lift point on the back of the frame. You guys all do an excellent job not crawling all over each other. Maybe Toyota can make the TRD OR shocks available as an option on this PreRunner.

Extremely unfortunate that Toyota couldn't put a door or two on the back to allow for easy access to the rear cargo area. I bet that is a big reason behind the renaming of it to the Xtra Cab. Can't keep calling it the Access Cab if it is hard to access.

I use my back seats every now and then. They don’t take up a lot of room. I think a delete kit is kind of pointless and now you can’t get suicide doors.
I'd be using the rear area for groceries, helmets and atv gear, and such. That looks like a huge pain to load and unload stuff without the rear suicide doors. They build a grab handle into the back of the seat. That should tell you that they knew is was a bad design and tried to bandaid it.
They could have left the back area still "openable" to make stuff eadier to get to... a big somewhat heavy box will be a pain to get out of that back area.
This pickup would look soooo good as a low rider. I want what know body has, lifted trucks are so common now everybody has them and that is the opposite of cool.

I bought my 4x4 3rd gen in Jan 2021, we had a snow / ice storm shortly after. It proved its worth that day. In those conditions 4x4 is a must.

I doubt you'll see jump seats in anything- too difficult to get occupant protection right. There will be an SR5 access cab that should offer 4wd.

They could have left the back area still "openable" to make stuff eadier to get to... a big somewhat heavy box will be a pain to get out of that back area.
