Unless you truly care about having the isodynamic seats, hybrid engine, red interior, not having to build your truck as much from factory, then you are more than fine on purchasing a TRD OffRoad in the premium package with everything that comes with. Noticed that the spare tire hangs down a lot more than normal on that TRD Pro, and that you don’t even have a spare tire in the stock position on yours. Is that because a spare tire larger than 31” will not fit properly on these new trucks?
Could you measure the height stand of the OR vs the TRD Pro? Does the TRD Pro Stand higher off the ground (is the bed tail higher off the ground... how about the front approach?

However, what is ticking me off is that there is no rear seat ventilation in the Tacomas. So, I am debating Taco vs Tundra. I prefer the Taco size, drivability and especially parkability vs the Tundra. What is your opinion between the two vehicles with respect to my concerns as you have ready access to both? Does the safety system / sensors make my concerns moot?
The Tacoma cabin gets really cold to me vs the tundra. It drives better and is great for daily driving over the Tundra. But if you need space for family or what not then I believe the Tundra is the way to go.
Heart says Pro, brain and wallet say Off Road. I currently own a 2014 Off Road purchased new. It’s moderately optioned for that year. I never really use half of the stuff on it regularly and it’s a daily, I’m close to pulling the trigger on a new Taco and I’m going Off Road. I’m going back and forth on hybrid vs not. I bummed of the lack of underneath rear seat storage on the hybrid as I have all my current trucks rear storage full of my with if I need crap 😎. Great vid 👍

That gerbil charged 4 is fantastic compared to the outgoing anemic v6. I put 200k on my 3rd gen and I don't miss it at all. My 2024 TRD OR driv3s and performs so much better. Test drive one.
I’d go with the Pro. Those seats though. I figure once all of the mods go on the off road. One could easily be in the pro price range. Just my thoughts. That off road is sick✅
@MikeSchneider-wz3ol After adding kings, UCAs, wheels and tires, and armor, I'll be at 60k for an offroad premium. Not bad considering the pro markups have it sitting above 70k. It'll never be a pro, but I wanted a longbed.
I did talk about the performance when talking about the hybrid system. The torque is so much better with the hybrid and a much better driving experience.
You can get a Chevy Colorado ZR2 or the Ford Raptor Ranger for the price of the Taco TRD OR. Better choice due to the ridiculous price Toyota is charging.
@@TRDJon Don't get me wrong. New tacoma was at the top of my list when I was figuring out which mid-size offroad truck to get this year. Coming from 16 years of BMW sports cars, I looked at the full mid-size roster without bias. Toyota's cult following keeps them from having to actually be competitive in that market. I want Tacoma to succeed, but I also want Toyota to come back to reality between the cost of their trims, what's standard in a trim, and cost of their upgrade packages.
Agree with you…on a cost basis the newer Toyota models are overpriced compared to Ford or GM products. GM products for over landing and rock crawling, and the Ford for desert and high speed running. Over on TFL they compared a Trail Hunter to a Ranger Raptor on a rocky trail, and the ford outperforms the Toyota, and was $10k less.
Is it just me or are the only new TNGA Toyotas having reliability issues the ones engineered by Toyota America exclusively for the American market (e.g., 4th Gen Taco, 3rd Gen Tundra, GX550, and LX570)? The new Land Cruiser 250 ("Prado"), engineered by Toyota Japan and sold worldwide, has been problem-free (so far).
I love the look of the TRD Pro, but would have to settle with the off-road premium hybrid. It is so much cheaper in Canada than the TRD Pro. What I don't understand is that in the US the price of the TRD Pro and the Trailhunter is virtually the same, whereas in Canada the Trailhunter is almost $9000 more than the TRD Pro!! What the heck! The TRD Offroad Hybrid is the one for me. Then I'll get the Alu-cab canopy for it.

Toyota ruined the cabs of both the Tacoma and Tundra with this generation. I think the shrinkage comes from the firewall being pushed back. I have read this was done to allow for more "soft" material in the front end for low speed pedestrian crash tests to up the safety scores. Maybe you could ask Toyota PR or engineering next time you get a chance. Regardless, the lost legroom is a major drawback in these trucks.
I’d go with the Tundra because it has a useful backseat. Or the ORP. In June I almost bought a 1794 edition tundra for 69,000. I can’t believe a Tacoma is almost the same price. 🤦🏼♂️

I test drove the TRD PRO and the RR. As a long time Tacoma fanboy the RR is by far the better truck. I decided to go RR for less money and way more capability.
LOL….Toyota should just remove the back seats from the Pro model. They’re pointless with the amount of room the Pro driver and passenger seats take up. And for the amount of money Toyota is pricing the lower models at without having soft touch panels is really really chintzy on Toyota’s part. It’s 2024 Toyota, come on! Unless you’re a hardcore off roader, have money to burn or are one of those people who need every bell and whistle just to have it, there is no reason to buy a Pro. Buy a lower priced model and customize it yourself for far less money.
Things I dislike about the TRD Pro 1. Dumb ugly seats 2. Automatic tailgate... really, who needs that ? I'm a man, not a 80 year old woman. 3. Massive touchscreen and all the other tech that most people don't use. 4. Sunroof... will never use... just asking for a leak. 5. Lastly, massive fake hood scoop ... looks ok but anything fake is just dumb.
