    This is an awkward video to watch, and I think it's awkward because our society isn't used to grown men geniunely apologizing for situations they've handled poorly; but Jonah handled it with class.

    Wow why are people getting annoyed that he said sorry? The word he used, while may not offend you personally, has been used to insult many gay people around the world. It's used to make their sexuality seem dirty and bad. So, yes, that word is offensive. There's no fucking harm in apologising for it, and (sincere or otherwise) he sets a good example of what to do when you've said something wrong. Apologise, without trying to justify your behaviour.

    Teach the young kids to not be easily offended by words. If you wish to survive in this world you have to be a brick wall when it comes to name calling. It's not going to kill you because someone said something hurtful to you. Unless your suicidal, then your just a quitter. Be the bigger person and say I don't give a fuck what you call me, I know who I am and your opinion carries no weight in my walk of life. Don't teach kids to be defenseless.

      While I would usually agree with you, and I'm not defending Jonah's choice of words exactly, there is only so much that a person can take. As much as we build these celebrities up, they are still people. And if people are mocking you and your family personally it really all starts to build up.
      Not sure if you have ever been in that situation, I know I sure havent to the degree that Jonah was but I imagine its extremely hard to deal with. I'm frankly surprised that those were the ONLY words out of his mouth.

To be honest, there'd be no need for the press to harass anyone, if we the people didn't care what was going on celebs' personal lives. Again, doesn't mean they have the right to harass. @ Davi Pinho what you don't know is he was acting in this apology, grovelling to try to make himself look less ignorant, ok, he lied 3 times in that apology , what you are hearing is BS , you wouldn't know bc you were not there , you only know what you hear which is not truthful he was not trying to Atone for anything he was trying to make the photographer out to be the bad guy, if he was truly sorry for anything he would have apologized to the photographer which HE NEVER DID , that speaks volumes about his intent . jeezz you are so gullible

    You can see his heart in this video. He seems like a really sincere, genuine and obviously a cool guy. I don't really get offended by that word unless it's used with malice or to stereotype myself or others in the LGBT community, but it's good of him to acknowledge the situation and give a substantial apology.
    I have nothing against Jonah and am looking forward to seeing more of his work!

    The context for "faggot" has changed over the years. Most people these days say it as an insult to the person for being a loser or idiot and don't mean it in a homophobic way. Yes, it's still used against homosexuals but there's different contexts associated with it and the line between a regular insult and homophobic slur is ambiguous for most people. Most young people would know that he didn't mean it in a homophobic way, this was all an over reaction but it's good that he apologised.

      Bailey Peterson I don't think he was MADE to apologize. Unlike many other celebrities who do it for PR, I think this apology was made by himself because he wanted to, not because he had to. And it WAS his fault for saying it. You can empathize for what it's like to be hounded like that, to have some asshole make rude comments about you or your family, but antagonized or not, he said those words and he felt bad. Admitting when you are wrong is the least taught and utilized aspect of being a human. So many problems arise from people who can not admit when they have been wrong, so they dig their heels in to the ground and double down on their original stance in order to protect their ego. Ego protection is the cause of wars, racism, sexism, homophobia. Ego protection is the protection of prejudice. Prejudice is judging that you are right before you even hear the other options. How much can you know about yourself if you do not already know all things?
    Admitting when you are wrong is neutralizing the ego's hold over you, and rejoining the collective human race.
    Nice to see a celeb openly admit when they are wrong, and doing it the right way. No strings attached. Nice to see a celeb that does not need to protect their ego.

    This makes me respect him even more after apologizing on national television, he didn't just send out a simple tweet like most celebrity apologies, he addressed the matter directly and apologized...Good on ya Jonah!

  • @JohnJesensky
    @JohnJesensky 10 років тому +16

    Yeah, he said something stupid...he said something hurtful. He said something dumb that would probably have any ordinary person cringing when they think back upon it the next day.
    The only difference is he's a celebrity, so he has to be continually dragged across the coals for it. He name-called someone who was being a pain in the ass to him, and unlike most people, he can't just go home that night and reflect on it...he has to have it thrown in his face over and over again.
    Let's give the guy a break and not just automatically make the snap judgement that he's a bad, or homophobic person, OK?

      Free speech? What does that have to do with this? When did the government get involved? He is free to curse someone out, he also is free to express his sincere regrets, and others are free to criticize him for it. Whose free speech rights were violated exactly?

      I can't believe I'm replying to a youtube comment, but here it goes: The first amendment and the concept of freedom of speech only guarantees that the GOVERNMENT cannot take action to restrict what you can say. It has absolutely nothing at all to do with how individuals react to your words. You don't have the right to not be hated for being a dick, you only have the right to not be thrown in jail for it.

    • @TheCultivatedMind
      @TheCultivatedMind 10 років тому

      Trevor Thompson While I think being one is completely irrational and ridiculous, homophobes, racists, and other bigots have rights too. A person shouldn't be fired or lose their means to survive just because they're bigoted or were bigoted at one time. That's a far harsher treatment than the name calling which precipitated it...
      Not to mention the fact that people who think bigots deserve this type of treatment might want to look in the mirror, as they're bigots themselves. After all, a person who is bigoted against bigots is still a bigot.

    This is what America has come to. Having to apologize for a word. Like seriously? Grow a pair and move on everyone, a 3min long apology for a word. You'd think he just committed a crime or raped someone. Like really.

    • @aug5837
      @aug5837 10 років тому +11

      He didnt make a mistake. That's the thing. He said faggot probably. Oops, i did too, you offended? If so, something is wrong....Like seriously. • @TWProductions90
      @TWProductions90 10 років тому +1

      And people are bullied around with the word idiot, failure, stupid, etc. along with racist words for just about any culture/race, but you dont see that in the news do you? Nope. It's all about the innocent, perfect, defenseless homosexuals. I have no issues with them, let me get that out there, it's the people who blow stuff up like this i have issues with. If i treated every insult to what i believe/like/have interest in, id be a hermit to never come out of my room.

    • @aug5837
      @aug5837 10 років тому

      The reason it was in the news was because Jonah Hill is a celebrity and the media loves to point out their flaws whenever possible. Without apologies, these hurtful words leave impacts. Most people don't apologize for these things we say because we don't fully realize their negativity or we don't have the courage to go against one's pride. Jonah was able to realize his mistake, something I wish I could do when I say unintentionally hurtful words.

    All of these comments make me sick. Why complain about someone doing a nice thing any decent human being should do? When on this earth did making an apology become a waste of time and needed justification.
    What are you people doing with your lives complaining over someone doing a GOOD thing and owning up to their mistakes. That takes strength not weakness, WHEN did that lesson go away.
    You are all missing jonahs point. This kind of angry thinking isnt going to fix the world, were spreading stupidity
    Just stop and think first ok? Im sorry of this offends anyone but please just think about the meaning of his words. You dont have to agree, but dont bother leaving stupid hate comments

      +Jared Cox Can you give a single example of the LGBT community "attacking him" for this? First I think most LGBT groups heard about it was when he apologized. In fact had he actually consulted with any LGBT advocacy groups beforehand they probably would have told him it was no big deal and to button up, since all apologising like this does is stoke the paranoia of the "see, the gay agenda wants to silence Christians with Political Correctness" crowd.
