I only had one 330 until about a month ago. My brother in law was cleaning out his pops house and found six of these on white Shakespesre Wonder Rods . Gonna be busy cleaning these and even busier using them. Thanks Dennis!
the Germans have always been great for over engineering, these reels are built like a tank. I have no doubt 500 years from now an archeologist will dig one of these reels up, clean it up and be fishing with it
We can only hope, I’m sure the reels will still work but will the fish belong to the lords and ladies and off limits to us peons ! Like the medieval times when the game belonged to the heirachy!
This was a terrific demo on Quick reels tear down and reassembly. I have a 110 that I took the side plates off with the intention of cleaning and re-greasing but found it to be TOO intimidating and bolted it back together. After re-re-watching your tutorial a few more times I may attempt again over the winter. QUESTION: at about 11:38 you lube the main bearing with some light viscosity oil, why not use some other type of motor bearing grease which would stay in place and coat the balls and race much longer ? Thanks Dennis, hope to hear back from you.
I prefer oil to grease as it does not trap dirt, which will wear down on the bearings. Also, grease will harden if it sits too long and impact performance. Grease is OK, but make sure you service the reel at a minimum os once annual to keep it clean.
Hmmm. I was just focused on the take apart and assembly process as I was as asked how the main gear is removed. You are right - the drag service should have been shown - Dennis
I have a 331 though unlike many European vintage reels wire an odd number, it is not left-handed. Maybe someone switched the handle before I got it. I don’t know. It does have the number 331 on it. Anyone know about this numbering I’d love to know. These reels are so overbuilt with extraordinary engineering. I have a 550 and 4 270 Super reels by DAM Quick. (By the way I love my Mitchell wrenches!) I love these old monster bearings on these reels. I have never knocked out those pins releasing the gear because as you say I didn’t need to to clean or service it. I have yet to be able to knock out the handle pin on my 270 Super reels. They just won’t budge and I did not need to pound them. The screws on a Super are through screws. It is amazing how many fine reels from this era used this worm gear mechanism - Penn, Shakespeare, Zebco Abu (Zebco) Cardinal and later the Daiwa 8000 reels all used this. Great video Dennis! - Chris
The DAM Quick 331 is a higher speed version of the 330. l 'm not sure of the ratios, but from memory l think the 330 is 3:1 and maybe the 331 is 5:1. DAM Quicks are my favorite spinners.
@@chesterspradlin6743 thank you so much! I knew someone out there would know. Believe it or not that reel was the very first DAM Quick I ever got. I like the 270 Super the most for surf fishing. I have a gorgeous almost mint 550 but I haven’t used it yet. I don’t like the “N” DAM Quicks. I’d rather have the earlier ones. Thanks again for the information! - Chris
One of my all time favorites! I have a 330 and 550, honestly wouldn't mind having the whole series! Great video Dennis!
Thanks - I will be posting a Finessa service soon - Dennis

Sounds like fun- These are well made reels - enjoy - Dennis

I agree - they were totally over built. That is why they are around today and will be tomorrow

😍 my first reel- bullet proof
Hopefully not your last! Thanks - these are well made and dependable reels - Dennis
I have a 550 that has an extra position on the little lever that is for a line counter
Very nice reel..looks to be built to last...
It is!
Are there any major differences between the 330 and the 330n?
Why didn’t you service the drag? Just curious.
