I know you show everything BUT I see 6 cells go in to replace the ten old 1.2V cells. I also see >12V out on test. Therefore these just have to be lead acid OR ? Next I see a series/parallel connection process. (At 11m49s in). So are these Lithium cells? You finally fit a "charging PCB" Where's that coming from? Source? I need more information. I like your spot welder. I have done these drill replacements with original 2/3rds size Ni-Me-Hy cells using solder. Ugly but worked. More info please!
Batteries are 18650 Li-ion. 4.1v (fully charged, no load), 3.6v under load, 2000mAh p/n LS LR1865LA, spot welding form factor. Side note: 18650 batteries are 18mm x 650mm, Lithium Ion. mAh varies
He simply connected two new cells directly in parallel. If you do that, you should connect them together according to the measured internal resistance (even load). The slightly lower total voltage of around 12.6V max. does limit the speed somewhat at the beginning of the discharge, but if the motor is actually a 12V nominal voltage motor, the efficiency "increases". With the same drilling/screwing power, less energy is wasted. The balancer board used can be bought for a few euros on eBay or Aliexpress. It ensures an even energy/voltage distribution between the three "blocks". This is intended for a maximum of 40 A load current from the battery cells. This BMS therefore protects against different voltages within the cells (balancing current max. 60mA), overvoltage, undervoltage and overtemperature. Then it switches the cells off! Indispensable for the safety of the new battery! As far as charging with the old charger goes, it should work, even if the output voltage is higher. However, the charging does not take place in the "fast charging mode", which leads to a longer battery life. However, the failure to take insulation properties into account when soldering is very questionable!!! Given the age of the drill bit, it should also be dismantled and the carbon brushes and bearings cleaned.

Those complaining just ignore but those who give expert opinion should be noted. That is free knowledge to go to the next step of self improvement. Thank You from Finland.

They are even making the battery packs unserviceable now. BTW, 1865's are easy to solder contacts onto. I've been doing it for years, no spot welder needed.

You charge the same way you charge any other battery except you first dig a hole in the ground and have a bucket of dry sand and a PFOS fire extinguisher close by and pre-dial 9 1 1 on your cel phone

You test the battery voltage of your drill and look for circuits with similar voltage for the drill battery to replace (commonly used current is 40A, 60A and 80A). Thank!

Everything is fine in this DIY but as usual you haven't shown the charging unit's details such as voltage,Ampere since the BMS you have used in the charge distribution and discharge is 3S60A ampere one: therefore the charger required parameters and the how many hours do such a charger is needed to charge the batteries are needed for any DIYers since over charge)under charge are very very necessary while doing this conversion to avoid explosion. Hope my this query will be addressed.
Thanks for your question. I just take the old charger case and charging head, I replace the old charging circuit with 12.6V 2A Li-on battery charging circuit (Input AC100-240V 50/60Hz; Output 12.6V 2A) to charge this drill battery.
Thanks for your comment, parallel connection helps increase battery capacity, and all major brands of drill batteries are using this connection method for their batteries. You can test it by testing batteries with large capacity (5Ah, 7Ah...etc)

This is not "repairing the battery" ie restoring the life to the cells that make up the "battery". The container is not the "battery". Changing the cells to a different technology will risk a fire or explosion unless an appropriate charger is used, dedicated to the type and number of cells.
no ! the Ryoby charger ( or genuine one for other driller brand) coupled w/the Li board controller works. Trouble w/Li & LiFePo4 accu is when you try to charge it w/charger that got automatic de-sulphate mode, these charger are only for automotive & deep discharge 12V battery.
it depends on brand, +when your drill runs w/old fashion accus ( NiMh) OOP, you wont find updated Li accu that match & plug your old machine! ... sometimes U could find adaptors, but U'll got to buy 1 new accu +1 adaptor.

ちなみに18650電池の外側全体はマイナス極です。プラス電極の外の肩の部分もマイナス極です。絶縁は薄いフィルム被覆だけです。プラス極のリボンをここに押し付けたり、溶接の熱で被覆が溶けたり、火花が±極の隙間に入り込んだりするとショートして溶損・火災事故になります。安全に配慮してDIYを楽しみましょう。

この方法は大きな問題があります。リチウム電池の最大充電電圧は1個当たり4.2Vです。元の電池はニカド電池で1.2Vが10本で12Vすよね。Panasonicの例ですが12V電池の充電器電圧は14.4Vでした。他のメーカーでもほぼ同じでしょう。ところがリチウム電池は4.2Vx3=12.6Vです。充電器電圧は14.4Vなので1.8V高すぎます。(1個当たり0.6V電圧オーバー)リチウム電池の電圧オーバーはシビアです。へたをすると発熱・発火・劣化の危険があり危険です。なおリチウム電池4本にすれば16.8V許容できますから問題ありません。

回路図の意味が、あまりよくわかっていないレベルの私ですが、こんなふうに、改造というか、修理というより改良して、使い続けていけるのだなぁ、と感心しました。ドリルの方も、ブラシ付きモーターだとしても、摩耗した部分は、交換できる(初期のホームセンターには、その部品とか売られていて楽しかったけれど、今は、部品系より、安価な家電や完成品が多くちょっと残念)から、半永久的に使い続けられますね。すごい。
溶接というと、溶接機がないとできないと思い込み、敬遠していましたが、スポット溶接は、また、別の種類で、電池への直付けには、希望が持てました。溶接機が自作できるというのも。近所でバイク修理して、輸出している家(ソノヒトカラハタケカリテマス)があるので、余っている部品なら安く買えるかも。
最後に組み立てに使われているプラスドライバー、私も持っているもので、かなり以前に三本セットにして購入しました。
同じものだ!!って嬉しくなりました。

I have found just buying 18650 batteries is more expensive than buying a replacement original, so no benefit?
I think the genuine battery is not cheaper than the battery I made and one more thing, the places I go to do do not sell this type of battery!
