  • Welcome back to Slammed outdoors, in this video I'm going to be showing you guys how to put line on a baitcaster. In the video I use mono and braided line and walk through some specifics about what kind of line I like to use and my recommended pound test used. Line and reel are featured below in the description.

    Some people put electrical tape over the spool with no mono does that still work or do you have to put mono before braid

    • @SlammedOutdoors
      @SlammedOutdoors  7 місяців тому

      The electrical tape works pretty well, if you use electrical tape you won’t need to have the mono and you can just go straight to the braid. The tape or the mono both serve as a surface for the braid to hold to so the line doesn’t slip but you won’t need the mono if you have the electrical tape

    Im gonna ask a dumb question,how much mono did you use for backing??

    • @SlammedOutdoors
      @SlammedOutdoors  Рік тому +3

      It’s a good question, I probably filled about 1/3 of the spool with mono but you could fill it up to 1/2 or as little as enough to cover the spool. If you cover the spool the braid won’t slip on the reel. If you go over 1/2 with mono you might be casting your leader knot which could effect your cast distance.

      Do not use any backing on casting reels. This is very bad habbit coming from spinning. The lighter the spools the better is. This is my I spool max 75m on my reels. And they cast like a charm.

    do you really need to do this or can I just get tape and use it for the braid to grip on

    • @SlammedOutdoors
      @SlammedOutdoors  Рік тому

      You can absolutely use tape, I’ve heard electrical tape works best but I haven’t tried it. I mainly just backed mine with the mono to save some of my braid.

    If put you line in a boot the line won't travel everywhere.

    Put the spool of line i(mono)n a bucket of water and let it go, the braid does not require this, as it has zero memory. !

      The bucket of water is probably the best way to get new line on if you’re by yourself! Great point!

    bad idea you just adding weight to it. Casting reels are bad with backing

    • @SlammedOutdoors
      @SlammedOutdoors  8 місяців тому

      That’s good to know, I haven’t noticed anything major differences between my backed ones and straight flouro when it comes to weight but that might just be me. Does save some $ to use the backing and I feel like I get better casting distance

      @@SlammedOutdoors yep . I am a daiw a fan. I have a new Zillion 21. And I put max 75m of 1.5# on. It allows me to cast at least 30+m cast even with a short 1.90 rod.

      @@AndreyOkhrimetsI always use backing on my casting reels when using braid. Keeps it from slipping by giving it something to “dig” into, that’s pretty common knowledge. Other than that I just spool straight fluoro or mono with no backing.
