- These DAM quick spinning reels are some the finest vintage reels you can buy! They are smooth to operate and are built like tanks. Highly recommended.
Thanks for sharing. I have a DAM Quick reel that I bought in the l 1970's that is still in use. It recently started making a grinding noise.... I took the side plate off and put some grease in it and made it quiet and very smooth. I was surprised how simple the Mechanism was when I opened it up.
Part of my childhood...many memories I get a little emotional when I use it
I have a DAM Quick 330 that my Dad bought me in 1968 in West Forks ME. It is now 50 years old and still doing a great job. I've fished everything from Bass and Trout to Mackerel and Strippers. I had it on an old Ted Williiams rod from Sears but alas that has gone. Great review
That's awesome. They definitely stand the test of time!
That sound is as iconic as a harley
I just picked up a vintage Dam quick 110 at a local thrift store. I paid 9$.so happy to find such a nice piece.I found your vidio very helpful.Thankyou.
I really love the old bail design with the spring loaded catch.
I definitely prefer it over a modern bail design.
Me too!
Best spinning reel ever made
My parents gave me a 221 as a high school graduation gift in 1974. That reel has seen a lot of action and still runs like new to this day.
With respect, I think you missed the point of that three position anti-reverse lever. The setting to allow you to "wind reverse only" is actually the setting to "wind forward only" when you switch the crank handle to the RHS. A bit untidy to have that superfluous setting but it was just simplest to have it that way and, in practice, you set-and-forget that lever anyway.
Your right, these are built like tanks, i own a few of them & am looking for a 110 & 200 series still, id trade my 400 & 500 for those
I have three of these that I have owned since I was a kid. One has Quick Finessa written on the side. the other two are a 110 and a 110N. All three are still working like they did 50+ years ago.
Have a 220. Brick outhouse does not begin to describe the quality, and could probably land a pony w reel worm v gear construction and some braided nylon line..
I have quite possibly the biggest and best quick collection in America
I own a 220N and it works great.
I have a nice 331 and my favorite - the DAM Quick 270 Super which is the large saltwater surf fishing reel. I restored both of them and love using them. These reels are true tanks! I prefer the earlier ones not the N ones. They use marine grade brass and stainless steel gears. They also use more bushings than bearings. That’s another reason they last so long. You cannot find a better fishing reel anywhere. I collect and restore vintage surf spinning reels as a hobby. Hoping to pick up a 550 saltwater reel sometime. Great video. Everything you said was spot on!
Awesome comment! Enjoy your DAM Quick!
Thanks for posting this. I bought a 330 today along with a Penn Squidder and a Cadillac III all for $25. I’m really stoked now. I think I got the deal of the century!
I picked up a DAM Quick 220N that was on a Zebco Centenial rod a few years ago for 5 bucks. I must say that this reel and a 308 Mitchel have been the best reels I've fished with.
I Still use the 220N today and it is still smooth.
Finally got my D.A.M. Berlin Finessa 280 in mint condition circa 1960. Balances perfectly on my 9.6 feet Trophy xl Try that with a new Zion or C4 aunt going to happen. Oh yeah paid $7.50 Canadian walking past a guy's truck noticed 200 reels in his pick box. Hey are you selling any. Cherry picked them . What luckOMG the line cost more Couldn't be happier. Now were in a exclusive fishing club.I like your video great stuff
I just scored a 110 on Ebay for $60 shipped, great condition, and with the little snap on spool cover ring.
Rubber bands work fine, but those little spool covers are even better.
I love the vintage ultralight cupped rotor spinning reels, I love the Mitchell 308 and the Shakespeare 2052EC is one of my favorites.
They way outlast modern reels, and these ultralight class reels can handle everything or more than a larger modern reel intended for bass.
Modern ultralight reels are smaller and lighter but they can only handle small fish.
I had one of these as a kid, bought in the late 1970s with my chores money. It was the best reel I have ever owned...I just wish I knew what happened to it!
Hello again, though I still don’t have a DQ110 but I do have a 220, 331, 440, and 550. Now I have five DQ 270 Super reels with one having a custom handle. I started collecting the DQ SLS reels but they were made in Japan and are not close to the quality of the West German reels. I do not care very much for the N model reels. They are just not as good. In my mostly vintage saltwater spinning reel collection I now have in excess of 370 reels most of which were made no earlier than the 1980s. My oldest are French reels like Luxor, Hellion et Punch, Bretton and Peerless BAB. The reason I love worm gear reels is because more teeth in the main contact the pinion at any one time. They are stronger, more durable and give a feeling like it was almost direct drive. The metallurgy of DQ reels, Mitchells, and even Roddy reels is exceptional and extremely long lasting and almost no corrosion ever. I agree about having sloewer reels like a 3,2:1. They are not great for lure fishing where the lure nuts be retrieved at high speed. One thing about these early DQ reels is that you can switch the handle from RH to LH. It takes some effort and internal changes but you can do it. I love this video because absolutely everything you said is true. I only use vintage reels for surf fishing. I’m 70 years old now and my fishing days are getting fewer but it is my favorite thing to do. My very first surf reels in 1975 was a Penn 706Z PUM spinner and a Daiwa 70o9C silver series spinner. I still have them and use them. Needless to say I now have more of those models. Again, great video! - Chris
Is there anything special about them when it says Made in West berlim imstead of West GErmany. Maybe super early or something like that? I can pickup two of them for a few Bucks. Last Weekend i picked up a DAM Quick 2000. Build like a Tank, if u can tolerate the sound these old reels make, then there are not many better Reels. Solid full metall Gear, Brake Disk made of Asbest, will last forever. Also picked up a Vintage telerod from DAM. It has a damaged Ring. I took it compleetly apart, cleaned it. Soldered one of the rings back together and put them back on. With this Combo im trying to catch a Pike this Year. Rod was free in the trash, Reel was 15 Bucks and cam,e with a nice DAM labeled Pouch, made from Atificial Leather. Cleaned it and oiled the zipper :)
I have the DAM Quick Finessa 110. I bought it in 1977 or something, and i still fish with it. Never any problems, and there is no limitis to the trouts, perches and pikes it has caught. Its now hanging on the wall, and called retired. Last time it was out was in 2018, where I cought a 4 kg trout on it.
Had the ultralight. Junk broke before could even fish it. I wouldnt give 59 bucks for a newly manufactured one. Mine went to the garbage where it belonged
Does anyone know anything about the Dam Quick 107? I have one and can’t find it on ebay or google. Is this some Chinese knockoff?
I have a 330 N and what you don't show is how the bail lock spring is attached..parts diagrams shows an exploded side view which is useless..its the big triangle spring..
I found a 330N and I noticed under the spool there is a little flathead screw selector ( H-M-L), do you know what that is for? Thank you.
my late grandfather have 2 or 3 of these. maybe the same or different model. now I use it without any problem.. he always kept it in the box after use.
My 110 rig was stolen in 1976. I just bought another from ebay.
I just discovered these reels the other day, now I own a 550 & a 330 looking forward to fishing with them, very well built reels
Just picked one of these up today...its a 550..took it apart and was astonished by the crafmanship and brass parts..looks different internally than yours in the way its hooked to the worm drive it is on a horizontal slider type mechanism..these reels temind me of the documentery "the lightbulb conspiracy" its about planned obsolesence and things being made to break so people buy more stuff..these were before that day and ehy i fish vintage gear as well drive it..im going to hunt down the other sizes and never need another reel
DAM and Mitchell are amazing reels built to last and if we'll maintained they last generations I use my grandfather's and over 50yrs old and still like the day they was made
I have a salt water Quick that was bought in 1959. There is no identification on it at all, but it still works perfectly at 58 years old, goin on 59. Is there anyway to identify it?
Sound like a Harley.. I still have my DAM Quick rod I bought when I was about 15 in 1968..
if the Finessa reel doesn't have a number on the reel, how can you tell which model it is/ where would the mod. number be. the reason I am asking, I'm dealing with someone that knows less then nothing about reels, that has one marked just Quick Finessa on the sides, just black embossed letters. I have Super 550's, a couple of 330 and 220's, but they have the numbers on the medallion, which is absent on this one. I know some of the spools have the numbers on the bottom. I'm almost afraid to have this person on the other side of the country take apart the reel in any way. In your experience, have you seen this before? I didn't know if it was a cheaper version towards the end of the series, like the N models gearing is different from the one's with just numbers. any suggestions ?
Notice: The 110 -550s DAM Reels was sold with intercarcheable parts to make Left Hand Wind Reels into right Hand Wind Reels. All necessary Parts came in the original Box!
Your 110 is also higher speed. About 4.75:1 also the 265 microlite has same ratio. I love these reels, they are so easy to work on!
A couple questions, I have two 330's and while I like their smoothness and quality there are a couple things I'm not crazy about. In a comparison with old Mitchells and Daiwas, the drags on both is pretty rough, no matter how much I clean and grease them. Is this typical of DAM reels? The other thing is the 330's are pretty slow, noticeably slower than a Mitchell 300 or 306, are the smaller models geared higher? Thanks
Slow is good. The pikes strike then.
@@jensstolt1656 Yeah, but pike are terrible for running straight at you... thats when a little more speed is nice.
@@bushleague3472 Try to get a 221 or 331 DAM . This Reels have a high speed gearing transmission.
great video. greeting from the uk.
What grease did you use? Nice repair
excuse me sir, are the spools aluminum?
You probably already know the trick to taking care of the spool because unfortunately the plastic hardens and tears. Therefore you should lubricate the coils (only the plastic) well with Vaseline and let it take effect. Then clean and everything is like new. Best regards and happy fishing! Rudi from Old Germany!
I have a brand new in box never used DAM SLS3. It was purchased at Yellowstone many years ago. Do you know how much it’s worth.
Bought a 220n with a vintage Zebco as a combo for 5 dollars in 2015. IMO. My 220 n is probably the best reel I have ever owned and used along side with an old Mitchel .
I have several of these. They are built like a tank! A friend has one over fifty years old--looks like new and functions perfectly.
I HAVE 10 REELS DAM QUICK MADE IN GERMANY SWEET SAILT WSTER 1950- 1980 BALLBERING I'M A FISHERMAN
Nice! Would love to see a video or picture of your reel. Nice collection!
I SAY YOUR LYING
DAM QUICK are better than Mitchells for sure.
Yes, because of the worm gear.
@@jensstolt1656 ... and the left to right Handel shift; if the original parts from the original box are still on their place !
They are just cool reels. I still have a 550 and it works like it did when new.
How do you remove the side cover on a dam quick 110n? Many Thanks
What is a good size for Musky fishing?
330
@Heart of Texas Armory I have a Dam Quick 220 and the drag is frozen up, any suggestions on how to fix it? I can't pull any line out no matter how I adjust the tension
NVM! I found your other video about it. TY!
DAMM I love them reels
👍👍👍😍😍😍
Great review, when ever I see one for sale I buy it if I can. Still have my quick I bought in 70's many salmon and trout. Will be passed on to my kids
Hello friend.i am from malaysia..do you have handle dam quick 4001 vintage..i want to buy
Take a look on eBay .USA . There are on seller who offers original old stock DAM parts!!!
my favorite is the Dam quick microlite #265
Very nice! I haven't used one of those yet, but I think I might have to pick one up! Thanks for the suggestion.
ผมมีอยู่ตัวหนึ่ง dam110n very good 😁😁😁
Mercedes Benz SL of the fishing reels. No Lexus (Shimano) , no Volvo (Abu) feels like this original. Hate to admit how many I got...Be sure to greese them up. (I like Penn reel grease)
Same Quality DAM QUICK`s and the ABU CARDINAL`s fom the same decade.
Does anyone know if the spinning reels carrying the "Herters" brand were DAM Quick? Back in the mid-60s, my older brother had a Herters spinning reel, which I always thought of as cheap (almost everything Herters sold as their own was either re-badged or a cheap imitation of a name brand), but everything I see about the exterior of these reels matches what I remember about that old Herters reel, so I have to wonder.
Search for a website by Roland Lindenbergh, DAM collector. He states that Herter’s models 73, 99, 109, 109-A, and 936 were indeed made by DAM.
@@macdizzlefoshizzle Wow, isn't the internet grand? I will indeed check that out. And I feel vindicated that my memory wasn't playing tricks on me. I'm 62 and I'm remembering that reel from when I was about 12 to 14 years old. I didn't even fish with it. Now knowing what sort of reel it probably was, I think it's a shame that it was eventually thrown out, but that's life.
How do these cast , also do you pair these with vintage rods?
Says on the video mate. Try listening.😑

@@jasonk876 Hi Dick, nice to meet you.
@@CB-xr1eg Perfect, you are oblivious to your own ass-holery. Do your comments continue to get stupider or do they eventually plateau?
@@jasonk876 😂 "stupider" is not a word. You'd know that if you weren't so stupid.
What is the line capacity of the 110?
Hello. how many meters of thread 0.5 will fit?
The 550 can take 100m 0.5mm line.
Can you switch the handle from left to right? I just put 6lb line on my grampas 110 he gave me. Put it on a ugly stik light. Thanks in advance
The 110 can switch from L to R. That's just one reason it's valued more than the original Microlite or the Microlite 110N.
@@philipmcfarlane5326 As far as I remember : Every brand new DAM Quick from the 110 to the 550 had the internal parts in its box to change the left hand version into a right hand version. Exept the N- Modells.
Sounds like a penn 716z
I just reviewed my 228 dam quick, yeah these are built to last.
Awesome brother! Nice score. I'm going to watch your video review now.
Have 2 and both spools cracked in th e middle
I picked up a 330 and a Penn Squidder week in a garage sale for $25. Question: What line weight should I put on the 330?
I would love to know this too. I just got a 330N.
For a real this size I would use 15-30lb line. If you are casting and need distance(capacity) used braid. If just bottom fishing mono is fine and of course you can use fluorocarbon leader if needed. The technique, bait/lure and target specie(s) should be considered when preparing your outfit.
@@bigal1419 In germany we use to say old DAM Reels show their capacity by the numbers. the 220 = 100m- 0,20 mm . the 330 = 100m - 0.30mm ..... In case of the 110 i use 100m - 0.18mm.
Cool showing.... thanks!
I have one but the bail came apart lost the bail spring
You can find the parts on Ebay USA!
Is there a model for saltwater fishing ?
I would say that the larger models like the 550 would be suitable for saltwater fishing
@@HeartofTexasArmory And some of the DAM QUICK SUPER ; with line counter!!!
Is the handle reversible?
If you find a original brand newe Reel in unopened box! The DAM 110 - 550 came with intercargeable parts in the box to make the left hand wind reel into a right hand wind reel.
Is the handle reversible?
Yes
👍👍👍👎
HAVE 2 MINT 550'S
