That just looks so easy, these little trucks seem to be a joy to work on. I think I'll get one

Great camera work to show the process as clearly as possible. My Hijet is the TwinCam so it'll be slightly different but I saved this video to my Hijet list for future reference, and so I can refer others who need to do this job. I would have replaced the timing belt tensioner, and probably the water pump and alternator belt at the same time.

I wish I'd replaced the Hijet timing belt and water pump as a preventative maintenance (as I intended) because the water pump suffered a catastrophic failure and I had to tow it home and order the parts to fix it.

Gotta love Daihatsu giving you ample room at the front of the engine to do this job. The new generation S200/210Ps are the exact same.
Another thing to note is that the Daihatsu E engines are interference design so it is critical to make sure your timing marks are correct or you WILL ruin your engine when you go to turn it over.

For anyone watching this who's preparing to change the belt on their hijet with air condition, there's a second belt to contend with. Not a big deal, but there are brackets (and associated bolts that must be loosened) on both the front and back of the compressor. The easiest way to access the aft bolts is via the engine cover in the bed.

I have a '91 S83P, but I assume its similar. I should probably change mine because I have no earthly idea how many miles are on the truck; the hillbillies I bought it from tried to (it seems) turn back the odometer and the 2 leftmost digits are broke.

I have a question, the part number on the box and the part number on your new belt didnt match.. the box said 13514-87282 But the belt said 13514-87208 Have you had any issues with it? Is yours the 4x4 S110P 1994? Thax for the vid, just want to be sure I'm ordering the right part lol..

      Odd
I didn’t catch that but no I matched it with the belt that came off and it was exactly the same

Excellent video! Following along in my s110p (with A/C so there’s an added step) but I feel like I’m missing something obvious. When I go to loosen the crankshaft and water pump, both pulley spin free. It’s the same in gear and out of gear. All four wheels on the ground… what am I missing?

New sub. The way you both grab the correct angles for the shots is perfect. Great job. New sub. I got a 1992 JUMBO Hijet. The alternator belt snapped. Should I do the timing belt at the same time??? Or just wait? Your opinion matters. Thank you.

Am I missing something? The very first step (loosen crank shaft bolt), that bolt spins freely. The alternator belt and all 3 pulleys spins with it and nothing loosens when that bolt is turned. I’m using a long box wrench, but there is no way an impact is fitting in there. The back of the radiator is about 4 inches from the crank shaft bolt.

Did you find a solution to this in the end? I've seen some methods of using the starter motor with a wedged breaker bar but the my engine is in pieces as I'm doing the head gasket.

@@wibbles2086 I bought a flywheel tool that has little prongs that sit in the holes of the pulley to keep it from turning. But I decided to wait to do it until necessary. But I should be prepared now when I need to be.
