Check out the studio version of 'Wasted years'... the live version is a bit raw 🤘🤘🔥🔥 Guitarist Adrian Smith (who sang the chorus on stage) wrote 'Wasted years' back in 1986, when Iron Maiden was going through a difficult time... The band was exhausted from years of touring and took some time off... but when they came back to the studio, lead singer Bruce Dickinson wanted to record a different kind of Maiden album, but Steve Harris (bass) & producer Martin Birch did not like the songs he proposed recording (which made Dickinson's solo album 'Tattooed millionaire' in 1990). Guitarist Adrian Smith was admittedly getting frustrated w/ his role in Iron Maiden... And w/ added pressure to deliver new songs, Smith (who never wrote lyrics for Maiden at that point) delivered 3 full tracks (music & lyrics) - 'Wasted years'... 'Sea of madness'... and 'Stranger in a strange land'... for Maiden's '86 album 'Somewhere in time'. Both 'Wasted years' and 'Stranger in a strange land' were made singles and the album was another platinum hit for Iron Maiden. After the 1988 album 'Seventh son of a seventh son', Maiden took 1989 off... but Adrian Smith opted to leave the band and was replaced by guitarist Janick Gers. Adrian Smith worked on some solo projects for a few years... then started working w/ a solo Bruce Dickinson in 1997... Both Smith & Dickinson reunited w/ Iron Maiden in 1999... (Both Iron Maiden & Bruce Dickinson were not having much success in the 90's doing separate careers). The 'Flight 666' tour was in 2008/ '09 ... The newer fans of Iron Maiden had never seen the band perform the set from their 1984/ '85 'Powerslave' world tour ... so Maiden decided to recreate the same stage set from 1984 and played a set close to that era of the band. It became a huge commercial success and several shows were filmed & recorded for the 'Flight 666' live album and DVD release in 2008. Iron Maiden was one of the few British heavy metal bands that broke big in Latin and South America... (They played Costa Rica on that tour!) Heavy metal music is still incredibly popular in Mexico, Central & South America - Metallica, Manowar, Judas Priest, AC/DC, Slayer, Iron Maiden, Scorpions, etc. play to huge crowds there...
The airplane you see at the start is a Boeing 757 which the lead singer Bruce Dickinson is the pilot!.. Yes he flew band and crew around the world in 2008 then again in 2016 Brilliant band
The lead singer Bruce Dickinson also flies that plane that you see at the beginning of the video Ed Force One that's how they get around from concert to concert
Man Mexico, and South America especially, are HUGE heavy metal countries lol. Maiden is special though, they've sold out concerts in just about every country you can think of. Definitely keep checking out live stuff from this DVD (Flight 666), each performance on this DVD is in a different country.
Very moving reaction of yours. Natural and honest. Thank you. And this live version of this song is especially captivating. Incredible vibe in the audience, and the band really rocks the stadium. And the result is really unbelievable. I could jump to my feet, altough sitting in my chair. The vibe in the stadium must have been mind-blowing. Unbelievable. The south-american Iron Maiden fans are "absolutely insane", according to Steve Harris, "but in a nice way, of course" (like he always says, smiling). Greetings from Germany! 🙂
So, just so you know, the actual original music video for this song, is actual very basic, but so enjoyable - it's a scrapbook, of parts of their life, off the stage, during their intense touring throughout the 80's -&- also, you can see all the incantations of their mascot, ' Ed The Head ' ( Edward T. Head ) aka Eddie
NO ! This Song Wasted Years is on 1986 Album : Somewhere in Time ! I was 18 Years old at that time and got my a Driverlicence in my pocket , it was the last Schoolday in Berlin ( germany ) the 1. July .1986 , sorry i' m german
That was the first tour that saw them, and I was 18, as well. It was near the end of my senior year, and I had a test in German class the following day. I was so tired that Frau Freund was impressed by my pronunciation. Now? Mein Deutsch ist nicht gut. Up the Irons.
All their guitar players are lead guitar players. Adrian Smith sings backup for Bruce Dickinson on wasted years. Nico mcbrain is the drummer he is awesome. All three guitar players split most of the guitar solos they do it in such a way you can't tell when one comes in and the other one goes out while they're playing it's seamless. The man on base by the way he is iron maiden he is the creator.
Iron Maiden always do 3 songs from their current album then I think 8 from their back catalog. Flight 666 was a documentary about the band, I think it was the 40th anniversary of the band.
Well if intro sounds like thunder struck (doesn’t - it’s a technique) than they got it from Iron Maiden 1986 …Thunder Struck 1990. Both have their own style/ influence and they both did it their own way and answered to no one! Both legendary bands!
Metal music transcends all races, creeds, colors, borders, it's everywhere, it's all over the entire planet and it will never stop never die!!! If you truly knew how many metalheads were in just this country, it would blow your mind
you should watch the german top of the pops with iron maiden been told to mime wasted years, the band kind of refusing to mime and just fooling around on stage so funny 😀
The guitarist doing the backing vocals is Adrian Smith. He was the one who wrote the song.

Alexander The Great, is a great Maiden song. I don't think they have ever played it live. But the studio version is fire none the less.
The lead singer Bruce Dickinson also flies that plane that you see at the beginning of the video Ed Force One that's how they get around from concert to concert

if you get the opportunity to see them live, DO IT
I saw them at the Omni in Atlanta in the 80s, they put on the best show and it was loud AF! My ears rang for 3 days 😍😍😍
The Omni! Some of the best pro wrestling ever took place there!!!
@@JD.Knight hell yeah, my dad took me all the time in the 80s. They had just finished the Marta train. Long ago 🤣 I’m 56 lol
The song is from the album caught somewhere in time and the concert flight 666 is a tribute to their early era
'Wasted Years' is off the album "Somewhere In Time"
Great song, awesome reaction. Since you mentioned it, Powerslave would be a good one. Some of my fav solos from Maiden are on that track.
red and the black live version, the guitars are exceptional

“Man on bass” is Steve Harris
The best and one of the first metal bands
This song is from the Somewhere in Time album which is the one after Powerslave
LOL!!! “The guy on the bass!”
Liked and Subscribed, man. Always enjoy your reviews.
BTW: The guy on the bass is THE Master Metal Bassist-Steve ‘arris!
Iron Maiden always do 3 songs from their current album then I think 8 from their back catalog. Flight 666 was a documentary about the band, I think it was the 40th anniversary of the band.
All members of Iron Maiden Arena older than 60 years 2022

Well, the album is Somewhere in Time 1986
El Dorado (live) from En Vivo is 🔥🔥. Very high energy.
En Vivo. Fear Of The Dark !! The best live version ever! (In my opinion)
Three lead guitar players!
Metal music transcends all races, creeds, colors, borders, it's everywhere, it's all over the entire planet and it will never stop never die!!! If you truly knew how many metalheads were in just this country, it would blow your mind
Maybe you wanna comment on the live version of "When the wild wind blows" (Iron Maiden)? It really pays off, watching that.
The album is "Somewhere In Time" -- This is a GREAT song but also on this album you HAVE to check out "Alexander the Great"
I was there in that concert in my home town MONTERREY MEXICO 🇲🇽 🤟🏼🤟🏼🤟🏼🤟🏼
See it live for yourself, they go on tour in May 2022. I got my tickets for Sept. CA date. Up The Irons 🖤👍
The original music video is 🔥!
One of the most famous quotes from a groupie was how she knew what a guitarist would look like during sex by the faces he made while playing.
Jonny Lang - STILL RAININ’
You need to watch the official video
Please, Check out of Iron maiden - Afraid to shoot strangers (official video), it's awesome.
you should watch the german top of the pops with iron maiden been told to mime wasted years, the band kind of refusing to mime and just fooling around on stage so funny 😀
Now do the studio version of "Caught Somewhere In Time" from the same album
Should do Rime of the ancient mariner studio
I'm not a huge fan but I must admit they have a commanding stage presence.
Studio versions please.
