I made the mistake of sharing my disappointment with the storybook wooden…… things last week. Yeah, I decided to delete the comment after the “positivity police” had to make their voices heard. Which is annoying because if all business here is sycophant level praise how will they ever know when it’s ACTUALLY a swing and a miss? Outside of going on Mercari and seeing how many people are trying to sell those things and what they are going for (vs their amazing new pins).
Wow that's ridiculous! You're a consumer and your opinion matters. That's how you get feedback and make things better. Not everything is sunshines and rainbows all the time. Sometimes there are just misses and that needs to be acknowledged. Pretty much everyone here in the comments section doesn't like them either so you were right to share you disappointment.
Just finished this yesterday, and I absolutely loved it. I was completely hooked from the opening pages to the cliffhanger. I love the OC version, and can’t wait to see what FL does with it.
Ugh yeah I saw there was a sequel right when I started it which made me sad. I've started so many series this year that it's gotten out of hand. The good news though is that I'm like 100 pages in and really enjoying it too! I'm super excited to see what the other version looks like since OC did such a fantastic job (although the book is super heavy and I have dropped it on my face twice already)
Oh my gosh! I thought I was the only one to feel that way about the doorways! I was so excited when they announced them, but other than the first which makes sense to be wooden, I've been disappointed. They're kind of clonky, too thick, and blend together. My Starless Sea on came off centered too! I actually reached out to them, not for a new one because it's not that bad, but to ask them to work on their quality control. I feel like they've just let poor quality items go through because it's easier. Their customer service is top notch, but if they spent a little extra time making sure their items looked good, they'd have to spend less time and money replacing items! I was very much looking forward to the planner, and like the outside. I wish they had still put the new releases coming page in the beginning like they did last year, but now it's part of the month page, which also gets rid of the spot for notes for the month. So, if you have a new release without a release date, or past the year you're tracking, where do you put it? Also, if you don't buy right away, you now have to page back and forth to find the month you put it in. A little thing, but it's one that I use frequently and am sad to see go. I liked the bookmark and the pouch is ok-feels a little cheap to me, but usable. I loved how the book looks. It's quite pretty! And it does seem like one I'd enjoy. I think I'm just getting tired of the items. I'm getting one more full box to finish off the year and then going to switch to the book only. I feel like the books are still high in quality, but the items are just too repetitive and cheaply made.
If I wasn't doing these unboxings for the channel, I'd be tempted to switch to book only too. I feel like Owlcrate used to have my fav items, but nothing feels unique anymore. I feel like at least Illumicrate and Fairyloot still try new things or at least try different designs on stuff we've seen already. The doors really left a sour taste in everyone's mouth it seems! I didn't realize so many people hated them. It's pretty much everyone in the comments section so I'm glad I'm not alone. I agree the first one made sense being wooden and then when I got the second one and it was basically the same, I was so confused and disappointed. I'm sorry they changed the planner! Since I've never used theirs, I didn't know they'd changed so much about it. I've seen some other people also complain about some of the changes made in it. Hopefully they'll go back to the old design next year since people seem unhappy.
@@kimberlyreads I very much agree! They have really good ideas, but don't seem to be able to follow through with them, or create a product that matches what the vision was. I really wish they'd focus more on quality over quantity at this point. The doors were kind of my last straw. Along with the design, I'm almost positive they said they were going to make 4 this year and we got 3. Last year, it was the same with the classic books-claimed they'd have 4 over the year, but we got 3 (not that I loved their choices). Maybe I'm remembering wrong, but it seems like they like to quietly change things and hope no one remembers what they said in the first place. I still think they are a good company and I love their books but honestly, I'm getting disappointed in them. I will definitely keep watching your unboxings to see what repeat items are coming out next!
I’m not into the doors. I just don’t think they look different enough to stand out on their own without having the read whatever art/saying they put on them. At least with the LitJoy doors you know with just a quick look at them they are easy to figure out what book/fandom is being referenced. Even those I only have one of LitJoys. I like the pin, they are well made and I love LOTR and The Hobbit but I’m not a huge pin person. I’m really picky about them and rarely will purchase one that isn’t part of a box. The book is pretty and could also be used as a weapon 😂 it’s a hefty one. Not sure if I will like the story. It will be a while before I get to it because I made a list of books to read by the end of the year. I never do that and regret it already.
I think almost every comment has had negative things to say about the doors! They really need to realize people don't like them and stop the collection. It's a waste of an item sadly. I've literally dropped the book twice on my face already and I'm only 100 pages in. I'm tempted to just wait for the fairyloot so I don't break my nose or do some permanent damage to myself. It's insanely heavy, but I still love it 🤣 So far I'm really liking it and the setting being in Egypt is really cool and different than other things I've read.
I agree. I think the bookmark was the best item.

Hi KIm!!! 👋
I’m 20% in and loving it so far
I think the book looks so good. Don’t like the doors either. My favorite is the pins.
Yeah it seems like everyone is disappointed about the doors.
I don't know how I'm going to function with the reading planner having all of the reviews at the back instead of month by month 😭
Oh no!!! I didn't even notice because that's how my planners normally are. I didn't even realize other planners did it differently!
Oh really? Maybe more people prefer them that way. I just like flipping to a month to see how many I've read.
You didn't share a link to the reading journal you talked about.
Thank you!!! I just added it!
