That last tip actually gave me an idea for a really challenging world design but a really nice payoff. All you have to do is crank the water scale to full throttle, so that you have humongous oceans but little land, making it hard to find resources. The end goal would be to build your base in one of the oceans, and doing so would prevent any and all biters from attacking the base except for at the entrance area.
That's a cool idea. Reminds me of the nuclear energy island electricity setup. It removes the problem of water supply and attacks by being an island, with only one easily defensible entrance. But by the time you have nuclear reactors, biters shouldn't be a problem anymore anyways
1:54 2,000 hours into this game and while i have considered using Nuclear Fuel for Steam Engines I never really _actually_ did it but you know what, I'm going to do this in my latest Factory and see how it goes. After thinking about it a bit, it's probably _way_ better than spending a bunch of coal on power that could be used for plastic and coal liquifaction instead which will help me get more Rocket Fuel anyway to make more Nuclear Fuel with

Lol, I had oddly setup a world that has a somewhat large islands(roughly 750+ blocks in the shortest direction & roughly 1250+ blocks longest) & it only had a very few biter nests on it & plenty of resources on it! Went & made a modular suit put some shields on it with some mk 1 batteries & a few solar panels in it & a flame thrower & went out to clear thise few nests out! No problems plus got the burn x number of trees achievement so I have this whole island with tons of resources on it & I can see other land masses so when I get a spidertron, I can use that landfill trick to make stepping pads to safely cross to clear out even more nest to get even more resources & my main base is very safe!

I did actually do "cheap nuclear" in one of my factories as an intermediate step. Honestly, not worth it. Takes way too much space and is inferior to even the smallest normal nuclear setups.
Yeah, nuclear fuel doesn't stack. While a single one holds 1.21 GJ of power, a stack of 50 solid fuel is worth 600 MJ. Is doubling up worth all the trouble? I mean, solid fuel is a byproduct you'll always have in stock if you want and basically unlimited. I mean, in order to produce nuclear fuel you still need to mine uranium ore, build expensive centrifuges and won't want to spend precious uranium 235 on nuclear fuel without having kovarex running. But if you are that far, all that is missing is the reactor itself.
If you could just make moats or cliffs the same as how you can make landfill, biters would literally never be an issue. So I guess I understand why it's not an ability. Maybe moat and cliff crafting should be a rocket science pack research item.

Reminds me of a outpost of mine that had same serious issues with Spiters so I looked there they started to spit at my precious walls and set same rails alongside my walls lopped them in spiter range back at my logistic train entrance added same signals the needed stations (for path finding+refueling) got a littel nuck und the walls and placed trains about third the amount of sections a had and it was great for that outpost The upkeep in repair Sets dropped almost too zero (so a chest packed with repair sets was sufficient) the ammo upkeep was less than half (kept all turrets) all for a bit fuel ok it was quit same fuel but in volume about half the ammo I had to import But in hindsight I would say flamethrower tower spam is more effective than minigun turrets + trains but it is certainly entertaining to see the trains plow through the aliens
Oh, so you really expect me to plant trees and make biters more happy? Get me some more grenades and some flamethrower ammo, the factory has to _e x p a n d_

You forgot the most-useful advice! In order to get safe, you need a spidertron. In order to get spidertron, you need ein Fisch. In order to get ein Fisch, you need to launch a rocket with the white bulb. In order to get white bulb, you need to launch a rocket (again, but before) with a satellite. Now you're safe!

It think there is mod for this, same like skybase in minecraft. You get limited resurces and need to build base on water
