Please do an update on hoodie tek!!!! Also if you could do a start to finish guide on how you get a master monoculture from spores that would be so awesome, I’ve been growing mushrooms for 2 years already and found your page a week ago, yet you’ve taught me so much more!!! I hope you can teach me how to isolate some master genetics in the easiest way possible!

I am 68 years old and trying to learn and understand cultivation of mushrooms. As best as I can see you may be the most educated and research thorough person out there.I have two questions. (1) What gains or loses would be in adding carbon + h2o2? (2) what gains or loses would be in adding carbon to the grow out medium? I wish you the best in your research.

Carbon OR h202 makes it contaminate - mold etc resistant or otherwise hinders that growth allowing you to collect or sector off clean samples

H2O2 denatures the activation enzymes of spores stopping germination. Good for mycelium transfer plates if unwanted spores may be present.
Activated Carbon is a weak carbon source (nothing really wants to eat it) useful with water agar (agar+water+carbon), mycelium will grow slowly on it while mold will flounder. Good for cleaning up contaminated mycelium dishes or wild mushroom tissue culture.
Carbon in a substrate would be ignored unless no other source of carbon was available. So basically useless.

Hey Jerry. I will be 68 in 2 months. I too just started learning about mushrooms. I'm particularly interested in lions mane. I have some mycellium growing on wheat and also in a pint of liquid culture and a few agar plates. I did this with one LC culture syringe I bought. I was skeptical at first but it seems to be doing ok without any contamination, so far. I will be making a tincture out of the Lions Mane I grow. I will eat some of it with catfish. I really hope that it will help with the cognitive issues I'm having. Best wishes to your endeavors in mycology.

@@ranjanty I don't consider myself a health nut but I do consider that I have one body and one chance at life. When I was young we got a lot of our food and medicine from the woods. I have tried kombucha and have recently discovered many eatable mushrooms in my area. ( south Georgia ) They opened up a new world for me with many different and delightful tastes. I am interested in the medical value also. I have just started with lion's mane ( hopefully to help repair nerve damage ) and oyster mushrooms blue, pink, and yellow.I have found some local varieties that I,m interested in culturing and trying to grow at my house. It gives me something that I hope to educate my grandchildren in. I wish you the best of the best on your journey.

@@jerrythigpen18 that's great that you have the experience of knowing what plants are beneficial to our bodies health. I myself always depended on health food stores over the past 40 years. I hope to change that going forward. Btw I live in N. Georgia and the past 3 days found new mushrooms popping up in the woods. Just Amazing!

My thoughts on h202 lead me to a question.. Do you think that periodic misting of the tub with h202 in a mono tub setup would help to prolong the health of a fruiting block by fighting contams in the environment?

Just a thought , as far as honey agar, honey is known to have antibiotic properties, so by using honey wouldn’t that be the same as adding peroxide or activated carbon? Or would it be better to add those to the honey agar like a double whammy to the molds etc… any thoughts jessie?

I've tried 500ml water, 10g honey, 10g ágar ágar, and some of my dished solidify (barely), and some remais in a pastose almost liquid state.. I'm trying now with 12g agar to see if solidify properly. Any tips? Adding more agar can ruin my recipie?

Why isn't adding the Hydrogen Peroxide the standard then? Seems like the most contamination risky thing I'll be doing is the Agar pour and adding the good stuff. I don't have a hood and this sounds like this should be the way to go 100% of the time. Am i missing something? Thx.

If drugstore h2o2 is 3%, wouldn’t a direct replacement if h2o2 for h2o get you closer to the 4% mark like the carbon?
Or is the effective dose 4% of 3% for h2o2? (0.12%)
