    Excellent lecture by Jennifer ma'am. I love her patience, and the opportunity she gives us to figure out solutions by ourselves. Also, that she tries out various combinations as suggested, and shows why they would not work out. Very complete lectures.

      Harmless expressions of masculinity dubbed sexist by sensitive imbeciles like yourself. "I'd like to mate her in one. Ay, lads?" C'mon, that is hilarious and a compliment to the beautiful Jennifer. You PC bunch don't know where to draw lines.

      @@tristunalekzander5608 Mark's comment is the equivalent of rolling one's eyes at a bunch of fairly innocuous, though predictable, 'jokes'. Further down the page someone else mentioned misogynistic comments, which, as far as I can see, is probably an exaggeration. In neither case did the poster use insults, but in both cases, however, you hit back with insults. You didn't need to. You could've politely dismissed the comments on both occasions, or ignored them. Instead you reacted in a manner of someone whose buttons had been pushed. Yes, that's right. Your buttons got pushed. Someone said something you didn't like and you lashed out with insults like someone whose feelings had been hurt. Getting your buttons pushed by fairly harmless comments on yt because those comments happened to be disapproving of some jokes that you, presumably, actually quite liked? Sounds a bit snowflakey to me. Insisting that people not make certain comments and criticisms and in fact 'go away because we don't need you'? Sounds like pc thought policing to me.

    • @tristunalekzander5608
      @tristunalekzander5608 5 років тому +4

      @@jamesrawlings5781 I admit I was probably a bit "triggered" and reading Mark's comment again I can see he didn't exactly mean, "you are all sexist and should be silenced" as I interpreted it.
      However, defending the right to say a joke that some find offensive is the opposite of "snowflakey." When I said, "we don't need you here," I meant we don't need you to tell us what to say and what not to say. I really don't see how you could interpret that as PC thought policing lol it was entirely in spite of the PC thought policing which I thought was taking place. Does that "trigger" you? lol

    • @jamesrawlings5781
      @jamesrawlings5781 5 років тому +1

      @@tristunalekzander5608 'Defending the right to say a joke' is fine, and I would join you in doing so. Check out the stand up comedy of Frankie Boyle and Anthony Jeselnik to see how I feel about so called offensive jokes. What I read from you was more like someone getting their nose out of joint and insulting the person who put it out of joint. Someone expressed an opinion that some comments were sexist etc. You clearly were capable of making a polite defence of the right to make those jokes. Instead, you reacted by insulting them and, effectively, demanding that they not make such criticisms in future. It's not what's typically meant by 'pc' but in effect it's being offended by someone's comments and trying to dissuade them (in this case, through insults) from making those comments again. What some people seem to want is not 'freedom of speech' so much as 'freedom from criticism', so they can make their jokes and comments and woe betide anyone that dares criticise them for it. The person who makes the criticism may be wrong, but that's not really the point. The point is they get to say it. That's how it works, friend. You can say pretty much whatever you like, and people can ignore you, agree with you or criticise you. Pointing out the weakness in their criticism is great, but as soon as your reply is more ad hominem than anything else, you just sound offended.
      We obviously don't see eye to eye on this, but I appreciate your reply all the same.

    If you are talking about something shown around 11:40 - then it is legal to castle the queen side, since the king won't go through check (won't go through b1). Unfortunately, she did not immediately say that castling is still allowed. This position is not likely to ever happen in a game though...

    Oh! Beautiful lecture Shahade. This shows that human beings understanding of Chess is not just improving but evolving.
    In ancient days (Steinits days), we understood positional ideas and outline the bare-bone structure of pawn formation, open files, open diagonals and so on. Tactics were classified as creativity or secrets.
    Now in modern era, with the use of computers we see the computer take a very unsuspecting position, and with a few move orders it carries us back to a very specific tactical pattern or mating pattern that we knew years ago. So we get to understand that the computer is simply able to find these patterns in the most unsuspecting position.
    So we now begin to outline the bare bone structure of tactics. And I believe, give us some years and we will be looking at the most complicated tactical positions as just being obvious (because we see the barebone structure).

    At 36:19, Q-b3+, if K-h8 then R-f8+, B-g8, QxB++, therefore the only defense is reply Q-f7, and after RxQ or QxQ the game is won a few moves later by white, which means sacrificing those 2 passed pawns just to get the black queen out to the 2nd row leaving her king open to mate could also be called elegant, don't you think ? I guess the black plyr could look for another choice of moves on the exchange... very interesting position to review at 32:28 which was the basis of reaching 36:19... Many alternatives

    Surely at 07:06 if black takes the pawn on d4, the white knight will capture bishop will then capture knight, then possibly leaving a queen exchange... But black still comes out better with the change of combining the rooks?

  • @Mark-dh8zr
    @Mark-dh8zr 7 років тому +1

    36:18 is the best situation to be in because you could move your queen to B3 and the black king can't move to F8 because the rook is guarding it same as to F7 so the only good move is king to H8 then you could move your rook to F8 to check the king then the bishop will be the only piece to block for the king then you could take it with your queen then checkmate. But even if black uses his queen to block the white queen when white moved her queen to B3 it will still be an easy check mate because you are up a queen and rook.

    At aroung 12:00 I thought you couldn't castle if a peice is blocking it or am I wrong?

    • @Shepherd3oy
      @Shepherd3oy 6 років тому

      Yes u cant castle if there is a piece blocking king's way (c1,d1 on queen side / h1,g1 on king side) in this case Black's Rook doesnt block king's way so King can be castling (because King use to move only two steps to c1 (queen's side) and Rook on b2 only block on b1)
      sry for my bad English

    36:05 She says its not nearly as good as the lines earlier, but there is a forced mate starting with queen to b3.

    At the last problem why not pawn b3 first? Seems to be good

    36:17 "Not as clear" But it is totally clear that 1. Qb3+ Kh8 2. Rh8# or 1. Qb3+ Qf7 2. Qxf7+ Kh8 3. Qf8# are instantly lethal. Whether or not these lines are more efficient than the candidate Ne6, I do not know. My gut instinct was with Ne6 also, but perhaps it might be instructive to compare variations?

    thanks nice video, just a little comment about 36:16 Qb3+ with mate to follow, seems Be6 is the stronger one.

    In the castling double attack, rook was thretening b1, wich mean king could not castle queen's side. Right?

    • @MarkLewis...
      @MarkLewis... 7 років тому

      Bruno Martins No, wrong. only the squares of the king, the first and destination squares (C1 & D1 castling long) can not be under enemy attack. Nor can you castle out of check or check mate.

    36:13 is clear you play QB3+ then if QF7 take with queen followed by mate shortly other wise your getting ...KH8 RF8 BG8 QG8#

    How long does it take to reach Grand Master level? I'm new to chess and this is all very complicated and hard to get my head around, and even harder to put into practise.
