- * RIP Mark Lanegan (November 25, 1964 - February 22, 2022) *
This is a piece of rock 'n' roll history. One of the best QOTSA live performances ever, in my opinion. This lineup from the "Songs for the Deaf" era is personally my favorite. It was like the dream team.
(Josh Homme, Nick Oliveri, Mark Lanegan, Dave Grohl, Troy Van Leeuwen) ... Enjoy!
I personally recorded this via my digital satellite reciever in 2003, I had to sit and wait for many days to catch this live footage on the program schedule again, just to be able to record it. Those were the days. :D
RIP Mark. What a fucking legend.
Indeed. He's an absolute beast on this and rises above ALL OTHERS.
Dave’s drums need a safe word.
SO perfect
LOL
OMG you did not just say that 🤣
It’s called “foo”
Friggin hilarious!!
Don’t let this awesome performance distract you from the fact the setlist by Dave Grohl is in Comic Sans MS
That’s hilarious xd
Shit we use to just write it out in sharpie on whatever we could find. Plates, napkins, cardboard ,each other LOL
Haha This comment wins UA-cam comments today! Everytime I watch this video I notice that and try to read the song titles
Haaaaa
What???
Mark Lanegan has an iconic voice and the stage presence of a thousand year old oak tree, in just the best way possible. RIP
Beautifully said ❤
True
How true! He was a genuine BADASS
Josh Homme, Troy Van Leeuwen, Nick Oliveri, Mark Lanegan, Dave Grohl all in one show. what a fucking time to be alive
Forgot troy
@@ddvin5872 yeah I did omg. let me fix
it was a magical lineup really, such talented musicians and songwriters in one band, like what the fuck....
They were not ready for all of that.
This slams so hard. Lanegan looks like some truck driver they found and pulled in after discovering his throat was possessed by the underworld
Underrated comment
Best comment i've seen
Haha well said
LOL
🤣🤣😂
I'd like to report a crime.
Dave killed those drums.
A massacre
Mark Lanegan standing still amidst the insane rock existing around him. Pure cool.
Goddamn legend
R.I.P. to one of the greatest rock voices of all time, Mark Lanegan. You will be missed!
The is the video I had to listen to . Heard of his passing at work, and took a bullet hearing that. Powerful voice he had
RIP dark mark
That is the nutshell, know doubt. Seen him perform with QOTSA at Glasgow on the Green years ago; privileged. Sad times but he has left behind an absolute treasure trove for the ear
Damn, i didn't know he passed away. RIP Layne's friend, dear Mark Lanegan
Damn. I didnt know he died =(
So.. I Googled it, and I guess a bunch of idiots thought the Queen of England died. Kinda funny because "of the Stone Age" implies that's she's old as dirt
I love how Mark is dressed like he just got off his truck driving shift before he got onto stage and started melting faces with his amazing talent.
😊😊
This is a prime example of why Dave is known as one of the hardest hitting drummers in rock.
The first 42 seconds of drumming in this clip are just amazing
Perfection.
The first 6 minutes and 17 seconds of drumming in this clip are just amazing
I see what you did there. Truth.
The funny thing is most people don't know the drum intro for this song is somewhat similar and copied, slip it in by black flag. Dave did it as a homage to bill stevenson of blackflag.
Mark gives us all a lesson about being the coolest person on stage. Everyone else is going crazy, and he's cool, calm and collected. As if It's just another Tuesday.
R.I.P. Lanegan, the epitome of underrated and influential.
They call it heroin shique.
@@ThomasistheTwin He was actually clean when he toured with Queens. But he did fall off the boat again shortly after.
yeah he's good, he just looks like he's loitering on stage
@@michaelgutz5388 Thanks for the reply. Most of the replies try to point out his adiciton as the cause for his lack of energy...but he was sober when he was with QOTSA. Mark was an amazing talent and should get more credit for being super influential.
Stay Happy and Healthy
I love how Mark is just intensely gazing into total chaos and nodding like "hm. Yes. This pleases me.
He's just terrified from hearing dave's heavy ass drumming
Yeah I was gonna comment about how odd it looks for this super energetic music going on and he’s just kinda standing there lol
It's called drugs...
@@mikeblaz It seems so, although according to his memoire he was already past that after being in rehab for a long time
Lanegan has one stage persona: Brooding
The fact that this still catches frequent comments to this day tells you what an iconic performance this was. Nobody can cover Lanegan. Grohls furious drumming sending it to that other level. This right here is not only peak Queens, but peak rock and showmanship. Probably the hardest track to ever go down live. What a fucking privilege this is for this crowd.
Exactamundo🫠
Can we have a moment of silence for that poor drumkit. Holy shit.
This song is coming up on two decades old and it still sounds like the future of rock.
Some songs just gets it right, they're timeless always feels as if they fit into the time. I've missed this live version ,but now I've been listening to it over and over for 2 days. This version is soo much better than studio version...... Just great
Exactly..
It sounds like death. So. Yeah.
Heavy King Gizzard vibes
Amen to that
As much as I love Dave Ghrol as the frontman for the Foo Fighters, he kicks ass when he plays the drums for Queens of the Stone Age.
He did drums on a couple songs on Verbena's "Into The Pink" album as well.
@@wesleysteeleiv wich songs dude?
You can tell he loves it on the drums
I must say that I think I've not seen anyone beat the dogshit out of drums like Grohl did here! Is this like one of the fests in Germany? Anyone got a clue, any clue? Thanks, cheers.
@Just Another Small UA-camr No shit, really.
"There he is officer! That's the man that murdered those poor drums."
"We found him drunk driving on a Vespa in Surfer's Paradise."
If you listen closely you can hear Dave’s drums crying in pain
Lanegan's vocal cords are crying in pain too, i fucking love that voice.
The lineup was basically a supergroup
Exactly:
Josh Homme - Kyuss and Screaming Trees
Mark Lanegan - Screaming Trees & Mad Season
Dave Grohl - Nirvana & Foo Fighters
Nick Oliveri - Kyuss
Troy v. Leeuwen - A Perfect Circle
It literally was. Members of Kyuss, Foo Fighters, Screaming Trees, and A Perfect Circle coming together to make the greatest music imaginable.
'ain't t'ha n' oxymoron?

Lol! Yes!
This is peak Qotsa for me
This is peak Dave Grohl
Lanegan’s voice here is INSANE!
It ain’t over till Dave has tortured the last breath out of the drum kit. Absolutely magnificent performance. What a lineup.
Such a lineup, say no more. Killer.
Rest in peace Mr. Lanegan. Your voice will be missed ! 😔
Dave, those drums had a family!
Loved the days when you could go see a show and there wasnt 15,000 cell phones in your way
honestly, i respect people like MJK just taking people's phones away. sometimes you gotta force people to live and be happy...
You’re just not going to the right shows
@@kayak0055 lol OK bud
Things I don't want to be: Dave's drums.
the recording was with him
I don't know... I'd probably let Dave beat me ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Sasa you're a masochist LOL
Jeff Dillon things I'd like to be: Josh Homme ' s microphone..
Dave Grohl Is me at 3AM
The Drums are my meat
As you can see, there was basically nothing left by the time I was done.
Can we take a moment to appreciate how amazing Troy is on the slide guitar? It adds so much depth to the song. .
It’s like another voice
Makes the hair stand up on my arms
Dave Grohl is literally the coolest guy in the world
Hes the best drummer in the world. Literly in my world. :) Qotsa Best in my opiniun... The last real Rock n roll band befor.... Bro the are the best :)
When he stays behind the drums. I couldnt believe how much he improved between nirvana and this when i bought the album in 2002, and he was a decent enough drummer in nirvana but this is far and away my favourite album for drums
Nahhh I can't agree there my friend...Almost ALL the others are cooler! Lanegan certainly is. Homme for once content to be a backseat creative Beast. Even Olivieri is cooler...Dave is Wonderful and Kills It - but is like the excited kid in the family or Animal from the Muppets💎
Mark's voice is so cool. Rest in peace, man.
you know that is a pretty badass song when You got Josh Homme, Dave Grohl and Mark Fuckin Lanegan in the same scenario
+Nicolás Riveros don't forget Nick Oliveri, too. he's a beast on bass.
yeah of course! Nick was the badassest of the badass, too bad he and Josh has some differences now...
ikr, it really sucks. he brought so much energy to the band. i think he was a big reason why songs for the deaf was such an awesome album.
oh but they aren't actually broke up, Dave just wanna make some more time with the Foo's
Check out a band called *Them Crooked Vultures* then thank me later ;)
oh great then! btw i wish some day the TCV launch another record, i mean they sound like monsters FFS!
Rest In Peace Mark Lanegan. One of the most unique and haunting voices in rock.
The drum enthusiasts are all here for Dave grohl 🤘
And stayed for Troy's solo
I wish Mark Lanegan could tour with Queens everywhere they go just for this song alone. Obviously Homme does it justice but Lanegan is the true voice of the song.
Gotta love Mark! His solo stuff is great, Screaming Trees are fantastic and his voice is so unique and cool. Wish he and Josh tried writing some more songs in the near future
The last King to stand, probably the best voice of these days, with Cornell departure ...
I Concur

I wish mark did covers of queens songs
Imagine an alternate universe where Dave Grohl was the full time of QOTSA. A man can only dream.
Yeah, new QOTSA and FF kinda suck. This was the golden era, wish they would've carried on a little longer.
I think about this every day. Sadly I only listen to QOTSA when Dave is in it.

RIP Mark. This was the first performance I thought of when I head the news. Legendary.
I like this more than the studio version; Lanegan's voice sounds so much better unfiltered.
also troy is so much more engaging guitar wise
Lanegan looking like he just got off his shift at the auto parts store. Cool AF.
Lanegan: the muthafukkin voice of DEATH
I love almost everything QOTSA has done, but I do think Homme messed up by not keeping Lanegan onboard as 2nd vocalist. He adds so much to this song.

The passion Dave has for playing drums is genuinely inspirational. When you watch someone do something they love, it's difficult not to feel that love.

R.I.P Mark. I’m reading marks book right now. It’s so good. His drug and alcohol stories are insane! Very entertaining read.
Sing backwards and Weep? Might pick that up, he seems like an interesting guy.
Still struggling to read it as former drug addict being clean for about a year.
His book was incredible. That book and Scar Tissue are the two best autobiographies I've ever read.
A wild book. And heartbreaking especially the parts about Layne Staley and Kurt.Very sad. It's a miracle he survived during that era

***** no its not :) theres another tom hit where he played the snare and it was a tiny bit out of time. Still a fuckin beast though
Brandon Knight Just because he changed the pattern doesn't mean he messed up lol
***** He didn't mess anything up. Most drummers change things up live.
I've watched this so much that the opening riff and hi-hat clicking just lives rent free in my head, all the time, never stopping. Good problem to have though.
Smoking song 😎
This has to be one of the greatest drum introductions ever for a rock song 🤟🤟🤟🤟
RIP Mark - an absolute BEAST of a vocalist.
Dude just stood there with one hand on the mic. He didn't need to jump around to have stage presence. He was cool just standing there.
The pure awesomeness of Mark!
That cool,.. sort of indifferent , non chelaunt , gaze is what elevates his presence to a whole "nother level...! I mean, think about it for a minute, you are standing there, literally, in the eye of a hurricane, and you are holding the entire gig down by keeping your cool. Priceless. No wonder they wanted him so bad. Plus the guy was a living legend. Now he is a legend that will live forever. rock on Mark. We love you endlessly
