I remember that there was an indie game from 2001, called Uplink. It's made by 3 guys and they were able to distribute discs of the game all by themselves.

You brought up some good examples but if you need some more indie games to play i suggest you try: subnautica, ultrakill, postal series (mainly redux, 2 and brain damaged)

Also their are good indie RTS games too also like immortal gates of pyre, tempest rising and knights of honor 2
and just like with games 'indie' youtubers also tend to be better as i have found out here
