Easily the best part of the video is letting the kite go directly into a tree and a fence for the purpose of a video.
    Definitely worth a thumbs up

Yes, towards the end of the video you can see the clip where I did with around 30knots and it was easy. I did it later couple of time in Tarifa, and it was around 40knots, definitely it was difficult, I had to hold stronger on the line, but I managed without having major problems, and even if I did, nothing is dangerous while following the safest steps :)

Hi there thx for this tutorial, i actually do something else which looked easier: when the kite is landed on the edge of the wind window, grab the center line connected to the highest point and pull firmly. The kite will get into the parking position straight away, as if somebody helped you out. Anything against this method ?

Hello Daniel, thank you for sharing your experience :)
I use to do the self landing method as you explained, but unfortunately this method doesn't work on strong wind, and if doesn't go as planned can be dangerous.
I did one more tutorial about "Style Self Landing" of pretty much the same landing as you explained but Safer, as you first disconnect the Chicken Loop Quick Release then just strongly pull on the Safety Leash and walking backward, on the video is a better understanding explanation.
It's available on my Patreon if you like to support my work www.patreon.com/kitesurf.
      Thank you :)

@@kitesurfexperiencebypetar it's a good video but as you can see it confuses people at some point. I would say it is not for the stronger winds only. It is still perfect for the light wind for very beginners and it's an easiest way to do it without being scared or screwed.
As of stronger wind conditions it would be awesome if you do the same video let say around 35+ knots at least. Where people can see that it's almost impossible to land it other than releasing a chicken loop. It looks different in a stronger wind and people need to know how it looks like in such conditions when the kite is flying around and flipping when you follow the line. But i wouldn't be so confident that dropping a line is safe when you almost reached a kite by being connected to it. During the extremely strong wind i would rather loose the kite by disconnecting from it in advance and then following the line rather than being yanked by the "lost of control kite". we also need to keep in mind that we might run out of the safe space behind the kite at that stage. Also idk about the others but during the strong wind i wouldn't be able to hold the line without gloves. (upd - hum i just noticed that there is part of the video at the end for 35 knots. that was a "good looking" scenario. i was describing the case when the kite doesn't get stick to the ground but keeps flying in such conditions when you hold the center line)
Another kind of video might be helpful when the wind is not super strong but the regular self landing technique still doesn't work because the leading edge can't reach the ground in the normal circumstances as the wind picks it up and starts rolling the kite. Then in such situation during a self landing after directing your kite down and pulling your center line you need to Run towards the kite. By running in a wind direction you reduce the force impacting your kite by the speed you are running. That helps to emulate more light wind condition which helps to land the kite. That would be good to demonstrate in some video as well if possible. For both of these videos it would be good to show that the kite refuses to self-land by a regular approach

      @@DenisShakhovsky Hey Denis,
I’m sorry to read that the video confused you and first of all I want to thank you for commenting and sharing your opinion here with us.
You are saying that this method of Self Landing is not possible on a stronger wind ? Did you ever try to self land on a stronger wind ? What exactly went wrong ?
I did it many times in different conditions without any problems (also 3 times in Tarifa with 35-40 knots). This was the perfect test for me and now I can really say that it is possible to do it in a strong wind. I only shared this one quick clip from Naxos, where the wind is also very strong and gusty, to not make the episode too long to watch.
It is definitely safe and possible to perform Self Landing if you follow all the safest steps such as using your palms facing down (will give you a stronger grip, less chance of the line burning your skin and you can easily and safely release the line if something goes wrong) and you should make sure that all the lines are down wind of you at all time.
Actually did you know that if the kite turns in beach position it is even easier to hold on the line while approaching your kite. You are right it happens often on a super strong wind, Only thing is that the kite might get a bit damaged if there are sharps object on the beach.
And for sure if the wind looks extremely strong to you and you think there is no way of safely landing your kite, make sure there is a never ending free space down wind of you and let your kite go if this makes you feel better and safer :)
As for gloves, did you ever try to hold on the line with neoprene gloves ?
I can assure you that it is almost impossible, it's way too slippery.
Maybe wind surf gloves work better?
About the "Running" technique, I'm not sure I understand well, I don't usually agree with running to the kite since you could easily run on top of your lines. But I am curious and very interested to understand your method so please if you could make one video of this technique your are using so we can understand correctly.
Thanks again for sharing your thoughts with us, means a lot.
      Cheers,

@@kitesurfexperiencebypetar Hey Petar. it looks like we have a bit of misunderstanding here :)
let's try to clarify the things.
      1. >I’m sorry to read that the video confused you
np. this video did not confuse me in particular. i came up with a conclusion that it confuses people because of the comment from Daniel Binisti. as there was a question why not the other methods to self land. i would have answered by the following a) it is the easiest "must have" method which everyone MUST practice from the very beginning and which would fit to anyone who doesn't know any other techniques b) that's the only way to land during a stronger wind as you mentioned
      2. > It is definitely safe and possible to perform Self Landing
I am not saying that self landing is not possible. I'm saying that the Regular self landing (by pulling a center line without releasing a chicken loop) is almost not possible in a strong wind. that's why the "chicken loop release" landing is an option
      3. > As for gloves, did you ever try to hold on the line with neoprene gloves ?
nah. i forgot about neoprene gloves like about a nightmare when i started using my go-kart racing gloves. neoprene gloves are not for the grip. they are for keeping a temperature. racing gloves are designed specially for a better grip, for anti-callus, anti-scratch purposes. personally i prefer minus gloves as they last long and keep a perfect grip for a long time in wet conditions minus273.biz/collections/gp-r/products/gp-r-black-green-silver?variant=39537433149498
but keep in mind they are at least a size smaller than they marked.
for example the other OMP brand "go-karting" gloves were gone really fast. the rubber started peeling off and it got slippery really soon.
      4. > About the "Running" technique
Running technique is related to a Regular self landing. not to a "chicken loop release" landing. you can not run over your lines when you do so. let say you started directing your kite to fall down and started pulling center lines. when the wind is strong there is almost no way you would catch your lines by running unless the kite hits the ground. because when you run, the kite is still in the air and it's still falling and it's being dragged away from you by the wind really fast. you run just for making your lines a bit slack. once you feel/see the steering lines got slack you reduce the running speed to make your speed and the "drag speed" of the kite to be even. and you stop running completely when your kite touches the ground.
I really appreciate the videos you do. Just sharing personal experience which i wish i knew when i started :)
      Cheers :)

    • @DenisShakhovsky
      @DenisShakhovsky Рік тому

and i did not invent running technique by my own. i've been using "chicken loop release" technique during strong winds and it was working fine. it's just less convenient than a regular one. but then i noticed that another Way more experienced kiter was able to land using a Regular self landing technique during a strong wind conditions without releasing a chicken loop.
okay then i admitted maybe i'm doing something wrong and tried to land using the regular self landing approach again. and i couldn't. period. then i noticed the only difference between what he does and what i do. he was running towards the kite during the landing. from the beginning i didn't pay the attention to it but this is what makes it working. as soon as i started doing the same (running towards the kite) i was able to land it immediately

@@desforgesstepahne9906 Hey Stepahne, unfortunately I cannot agree with a method of Self Landing from Philip to be safe:
      1. I do not like how he is pulling on the lines(his right hand pulling the lines with his fingers), in strong wind conditions the line could easily burn/cut your skin.
      2. You can see that one of the lines is up wind of him, in case of letting the line go the upwind line is in big chance to catch his body
      3. I don't see how people would Self Land the kite with this method in 30+ knots
In case you Quick Released the Chicken Loop on the beach(on purpose or by accident) and there is no one to help you with grabbing your kite, how would you reach your kite?
In the method I shown honestly I do not see why the kite would go in dead loop after Quick Releasing the Chicken Loop, if you fallow the safe steps as I mentioned how to pull on the safety line and making sure that ALL the lines are down wind of you, if in emergency you let the safety line go the kite is still flying without tension.
I did land my kite with this method many times in over 30 knots and some days in up to 40 knots without any problem, Very important to be pulling on the line with your palms facing down and having the line on the "Writer's Palm" as this is the hardest skin on your palm, even if the line slides on it's very difficult to cut you.
