Wow I just tried this technique yesterday on my 12m in light wind and it worked on the first try!! Having the chicken loop in the hand makes all the difference and I felt so much safer too! Other channels should really try to promote this technique instead of the more dangerous hooked in versions.. Anyways thanks for these awesome tutorials!
Great to hear that, thank you for following the safest steps of self launching the kite 🙏🏻 I also agree that all the other kitesurf channels should show just the safest methods of doing certain things in Kitesurfing.
Great explanation with plenty of useful details. If I may, I add something during the pivot move of the kite when I need to go to the power zone (light to medium wind, type of kite depending) At the near end of the pivot phase, I do one step forward to reduce the front lines tension , and the kite moves a bit on its back and at least is not in total vertical position of launching. This allows me to come back to the perfect perpendicular stable position, to hook me quietly, then increase again the tension and proceed to the launch. This technique avoided several unplanned fast launch with the chicken loop in hand with some kite which design made their pivot a little late or tricky. Hope it helps😎
Hey Nicolas, it's a good point what you are saying, this step is especially helpful during strong wind conditions, thank you for sharing you experience :)
Hey Gigi, thank you very much for your support :)) About the drift launch in shallow water, this is pretty much the same technique of launching if there is a bit of land where the kite can be parked for some seconds. But if there is just water with no land at all, then is slightly bit different, which I will have in mind to film it in near future :)

Wish I had watched your video yesterday. One concussion later I am now doing the homework I should have done. Any number of your tips would have turned a bad day into a good one, especially holding chicken loop in hand. Thanks!!
We do self launches a lot but in the water, there’s not much space on the beach and the water is just knee deep. In the water makes it easier to have more space.
@@kitesurfexperiencebypetar Yes and no... The launch part is quite safe, more space, water is softer and more forgiving than land when you make a mistake 🤪 But I learned to be very, very carefull in setting up lines, again winding them up on the bar and unwinding them again in the water. You need to be very sure nothing is tangled and lines are not around the kite. In that means a normal launch on a beach with a helper and enough space is easier. In the end it's all about checking yourself, don't rush and don't be affraid to stop your action, whatever it is, if something seems to be wrong. Sometimes I get the feeling people are pushing just to not look foolish to other people. But you only look like a fool if you're not carefull and do stupid things, especially if you already know you're taking unnecessary risks. Thanks for these video's, you go nicely into detail why things are needed and why not to do other stuff. I think it helps people a lot. Keep up the great work !
