How to Land a Kiteboarding Kite By Yourself in Strong Winds

- This technique is very reliable with modern control bars. It is a safe technique that works for a variety of environments. When we're by ourself, this is the technique we use. More information on how to self land a kite here: kiteboardingstpetersburg.com/...
This is my preferred self land technique when possible, after the anchor method.
It can get a bit more challenging if you have to do it in cross/onshore conditions as you have to take into account any downwind obstacles that may exist within a line length + ~span of your kite. Can be tricky if a beach is rocky or has lots of sticks/debris.
I had to do this just a couple of weeks ago. I tried to self-land a few times on the beach but it was just too windy, and not enough safe space. So I gave up and flagged it out onto the water. One tip - I wear sailing gloves to protect from sun, and they help a lot with handling a line under strong tension.
Brilliant video - thank you! {As a part 2 sometime - same method (but for deep water & board keep) + add using kite as a sail to get back to the shore OR as a floatation device to drift back in}.
Yes! The self rescue.. Love it
Excellent. I don't know how many self land videos skip using the qr thank you! Qr is your best way to land solo the rest of the techniques are just filler
Yeah...try that in winter with gloves and prooooperly powered. I mean it works but its often really sketchy. Anchor is still the best if not too gusty
I appreciate you making a video on self land / rescue but I think there are bunch of points that put me off this a bit.
1. Lets start with you released the safety with the kite too high in the sky. That causes the kite to tumble and be out of control. I think it would be better if you brought the kite onto the water like a self land on land (still with leading edge down by pulling the top forward line ) then released safety. Once you release safety you have zero control of kite.
2. what you did is someone what depended on the type of kite. With a surf style kite you might have had the risk of the kite staying in the sky as it drifted to back of wind window then doing unpredictable things as the safety like got tension
3. the start where you claim you are powered up on a 9m look, uh, how do I put this politely, unlikely given the water condition
4. The audio is really shitting, we can barely hear you then you decided to put the music far to loud. The music just makes this video worse
5. as you started wrapping the lines on bar, I think it is better to do so loops around the bar to secure the line even if something happens and bar gets dropped so that you don't end up in a situations where some of the lines are get extra slack and kite can power up.
Once again, I do appreciate that you are trying to help and I would like to thank you for that. Knowing how to self land with no beach is important and you clearly know how to do it, I just think the video could be improved.
as of #2 - if the wind is too strong and the kite still keeps flying/flapping in the center of the window - it's important to have good grippy gloves on. otherwise it would be quite problematic to pull the safety line for grabbing the bar.
Question. What are the benefits of this method vs just pulling the hoop off of your harness instead of actually ejecting?
Seems it would accomplish the same things without so much mess afterwards.
Sorry, I'm new
If you pull the chicken loop off and let go then the same thing happens. The only difference is you dont have to connect the loop but connecting the loop takes 5 seconds to do.. the mess i think youre referring to is how the line flags out and the process of wrapping the lines up? if thats what youre referring to then we have another video for self landing in light winds by pulling the flag line, which accomplishes the same thing. the difference being in strong winds that if you mess up pulling the flag line then you can end up with the kite in an undesirable position and it dragging you
@@KiteboardingStPetersburg you guys are great. Thanks!
Yeah I guess the safety line flags out either way
@@DialedN_07 exactly and thank you
Impossible in an onshore wind and a mess in a weedy area.
You could not be further from overpowered anyone can drop this in 12 knots. Let's see a properly powered technique... Also it's a lot easier if you stand on the beach and drop kite..
Doing that backroll kiteloop in the beginning of the video in 12kts on a 9m would be quite impressive!
@@KiteboardingStPetersburg more referring to amount of wind on the water during landing
