  • Pro's Evan Netsch and Damien LeRoy breakdown how to self land your kite when no one is around to help you. We always recommend to have someone grab your kite if you have the option.

    Really good presentation, guys. Pros aren't always great teachers. You guys are. Good job.

    Excellent tips! I foresee my kiting future to probably be primarily solo so this was great demonstrations and explanations.

      Dod you hire a real pro to show you how to use this or just get his free training? This guy is as knowledgeable as Capt. Kurt is to paramotoring who just hucks you into the wind after you buy his gear. No real training at all...but its free.

    It was a good one. Wish you covered a second technique of landing with speed and pooling top steering line, especially for the high V design. Thanks again.

    What if the shore is crowded with trees like at Doug's. Would this work if you want to land the kite in the water in the cove just West of Dougs?

    Also preferable to do it on the opposite side of the safety line (If the safety line is on the center /right land it on the left or opposite ) So is easier to pull that line.

    Sometimes I take the webbing strap buckled around new kites and wear it like a belt, then use it to loop around objects (then CL on it) in landing area where I come in for anchored landings. Carabiner on it would make it even easier.

    Hi, as you are bring the kite down to one side, I noticed that you are pulling on one of the upper front lines. Does it matter which one you pull (left one or right one)? Thanks.

    • @DamienLeroyYouTube
      @DamienLeroyYouTube  3 роки тому

      It does! If you pull both the kite surges into the wind and at the last second you pull the top center line... as it will pull the kite around like you put it on the beach! Face down... SO if my kite is to the right I pull top center left line. If my kite is to the left, I pull top center right line. Hope that helps!

    Random question : if ONLY non kiters are around on the beach, would you A) ask one to land you try to explain how to catch and land it? Or B) self land ?

    • @DamienLeroyYouTube
      @DamienLeroyYouTube  2 роки тому +2

      I personally would recommend, flagging your kite by activation your quick release, unless you are really good at self-landing on your own! Eliminates any miss hap from a non kiter. My thoughts.

    Turn the kite to around 2-3 ish and let it hover, make sure safety line is on upper side. Over a few seconds in a smooth sequence: Yank the lower side of the bar to turn the kite towards the ground and then let go of bar, release safety, and then pull lease down towards the ground. Works in high winds with high drift surf kites every time. Havnt tried with a yline but probably should work.

      all depends on the product and years of he product but you are in it around 2-3k for everything..... So worth it!

    I would just pull the safety and pack down safley, secure the kite then sort my lines on the beach after 🤓

    Just put the kite down, unhook and walk in your frontlines to the kite. Best for high wind

    And if you fuck it up. The lines wrap around ur bar and you get body dragged down the beach.
    Don't recommend learning this in 30 knots. :)

    • @evannetsch
      @evannetsch 4 роки тому

      Agreed, do not learn in 30 knots! This is a last resort if no on is there to catch your kite and NO ONE is around especially downwind on the beach! Work your way up, practice is a safe place and light wind like in this video.

    • @DamienLeroyYouTube
      @DamienLeroyYouTube  4 роки тому

      Agreed! We always recommend someone landing your kite and fixing your lines before you ever try on your own.

    First of all, depower the kite, then start the self landing

    • @dylanseligmann9476
      @dylanseligmann9476 3 роки тому +1

      not really, you need some power to get the kite out of the wind window as far as possible.

      @@DamienLeroyUA-cam agree. The words are good, but you should show that landing 5 times in a row. Also, practicing this is essential. So it doesn't make sense to over-emphasize finding someone to land you. What you guys are showing works so well (and you demonstrate it perfectly) that people shouldn't be discouraged from learning it. It is and everyday skill, not something to do in desperation. But great video!!!

    could you please explain the pros and cons of high and low "V" on the center lines

    • @evannetsch
      @evannetsch 4 роки тому +2

      A high V does not allow you to grab the upper front line that you need to pull when self landing, so makes this much harder, more dangerous and nearly impossible as it gets windier. With a high V you may just need to use a sand anchor, pull your QR or best yet with any kite or bar just have someone else land it if they are around. This is only to be used when alone and no one else around to catch your kite or a non kiter to possibly put in any danger at all.

      This is not someone who has safe information how to get off the ground safely. He will just tell you to look for seemingly soft bushes and jump down if you get scared. He is an idiot.

    In real strong winds if no one is around I use wind shadow areas to full effect. Works a treat.

      More wind the harder it gets, but I can do it in 30 knots without an issue! Filming and recording clear audio in 30 knots is another story!

      Right? He should just jump again. I hope he learned Last time that bushes and tufts of grass dont make good safety nets no matter how soft they appear. He should quit flying into the sky.
