    One note...when draining your water heater, open the pressure relief valve so it drains faster. That will also help pull some of the debris out with the stronger flow.

    **TECH TIP** If you open the tank vent or just open an interior hot water faucet the tank won't chug like that, it will drain quickly. Air behind water. I look forward to your next adventure! Happy Holidays.

    We've been watching you for a couple years. We live in Spring Hill FL and have a condo in Redington Shores near St Pete. You will find that the humidity is "real interesting here". Lots of times we want to go outside but after two minutes of being outside, you are soaked. Hope you get to be outside as much as you want. By the way, our kids live in St George Utah so we have been around the Flagstaff area too. Hopefully we will meet you one of these days. Really enjoy and have learned a lot about camping. We have a 20 ft Bambi Airstream. Love traveling!!

    I loved the way when you touched the fog light, a piece of plastic went “clink” and fell to the ground. And Trish saying “oh dear 🦌 “ was classic. I fully expected someone to yell out “WHAT DOES IT MEAN?” If the rainbow guy can do it, then you shouldn’t hold back.
    Trying to picture Trish driving 200 mph to finish the drive in 11 hours. Just make sure the hair’s in a ponytail for that one.
    Love this episode. Merry Christmas to you all. And to all a good night. 🎅

    Talking about Dejavu! We purchased our New/used 28' Classic AS a little over a month ago up here in Oregon and on the way home, we hit a deer as well and on the same side of our truck. I have a 2008 Dodge Ram 2500 with a steal bumper though and all it did was take out the driver's side fog light plug (luckily). I graduated from NAU a few years ago (1986, LOL) and we owned a cabin in Munds Park. We are retired now here in Central OR, but still frequently go down to Arizona to stay in Sedona and eat Bun Huggers hamburgers in Flagstaff. Oh, and we are fellow ELK Members too ;-). Happy Trails!

    You were right not to swerve for the deer. So many people would have tried to miss the deer and made it worse. Good move keeping strait. Since the bumper needs replacing I would have just cut the plastic off so it wouldn't rub.

    Looks like you got lucky on the deer. A glancing blow. My wife and I have hit five deer (thus far). Her first was on I-90 near La Crosse, WI at 70 mph. That one was nearly $10k to fix. The last one was my Suburban at low speed less than a mile from our home. All bumper, grill, headlight, A/C condenser, transmission cooler, and trim. No bent sheet metal. Thankfully our 18 month old son (at the time) was sound asleep in the back seat. That happened on a Tuesday evening. It was fixed and I took our camper to IA on Friday. Once again kudos to Heartland Tire in Rochester, MN. Happy New Year!

    Hi there, The one thing you must do when leaving RV in sub 0 temps is drain your water lines, cause in -10 degrees they will freeze - {The old style poly grey lines had more flexibility in cold - going back to the 1980s}
    But the new style Pex will split more easily...Sure hope that was done - well its a learning curve for ya

And we bought a 5th wheel and a truck and we are in The process of selling our house and doing this thing. We also signed up for your UA-cam course and plan to release our new UA-cam channel on Jan 1. We are so excited. We will be called the Dye-Nomadic Duo. We will definitely be rookies but we are excited to start. Good information so far on the UA-cam course.

    Lots of hardships here, but you were able to make the episode interesting and adventurous.
    I’ve hit two deer in my life of driving, one in a Volkswagen Beetle, and one in a tractor trailer.
    Both were very ugly.
    I’ve had many tire blow-outs in tractor trailers, and one rear tire blow-out on the truck while pulling the RV, and one RV tire blow-out.
    They’re always a mess. I’m very thankful that I’ve never had a steering tire blow-out. Those can be fatal.
    That long drive from St.Pete to Flagstaff looked brutal. Thanks for the tip on Cracker Barrel overnight parking.
    Hope y’all had a great Christmas, and wishing you a Happy New Year!

    Merry Christmas Y'all! You were very lucky that's the only damage on the truck, and no one was hurt. We live in the country, and have all kinds of deer. Plenty running during the rut season. One came up a hill, and ran right in front of us. Nearly hit the wind shield, the deer was thrown 70 feet acrossed the old state highway. It was 530PM, in October and it was pitch black out. We had pulled off the old highway (no real room due to farm fencing), and go acrossed the state highway, up an embankment to find the deer to make sure it was dead. The damage to our Ford Edge $5400.00. Deer can be very expensive!!

    happy holidays guys, Mark the next time you drain your water heater flip the pressure relief lever up that will let air into the system so tank will drain faster and completely also when fill a empty system after you fill the fresh water tank attach the hose to your city hook up ,open the relief lever on water heater til water comes out this will fill water heater thus saving you 6+ gallons from your fresh tank and less air in system when you first use it. did this for 15+ years going to Muskegon, MI two weeks spring and fall every year.

    I know you folks do a lot of extended day driving, but maybe you should rethink that. Driving and arriving after dark only seems to increase the number of hazards and tiredness. At least, that's what we have found. For us, the 3:30 rule works best. If it takes extra days, so be it! We feel better and are more rested. But for you, I think Tricia would be chomping at the bit and not able to stop! I guess that's why we all RV our own way. Glad you didn't do more damage to your vehicle with the deer.

If you will crack the pressure relief valve as you drain it most of that sediment will flow out with the water as you drain it. Try it next time and you can thank me later! • @Shep5847
    @Shep5847 2 роки тому

    @Mark. Next time you crunch a bumper somehow, wrap a tow strap around it and then tie it off to a tree. Put your truck in 4x4 low and give a few gentle tugs on the bumper by backing away from the tree. Just tap the throttle and let inertia do the work. Start gentle and then more aggressive as necessary. Those bumpers are very thick steel. You won’t bend them by hand without serious leverage. Speaking all from experience. 😂

    Up armor with a Ranch Hand bumper. I travel for work and I'm amazed you haven't struck a deer before. Quick fix is to make it rub, then stick a rolling pin shaped cylindrical item in the wheel arch and slowly roll forward.

    Mark if you open you tp valve when draining the water heater it will let air in and drain faster just an FYI and Merry Christmas to you all!!

      Agree and will prevent the pressure from pushing out the drain hole as well which can be startling when you first remove the drain plug.

    I would have put a ratchet strap around the bumper (through the fog light hole), and wrapped the other end around a tree and put the truck in reverse and done a couple of little “tugs” to pull it out just enough.
    Also, to get rid of the “glug glug glug” when draining the water heater, just pop open the temperature/pressure valve at the top of it when you pull the plug. It’ll drain faster and more smoothly.

      That’s exactly what my husband did a couple years ago when he hit a deer.

    Love the videos and have been watching for years. That said as someone that has worked Fire & EMS, PLEASE MOVE OVER AND SLOW DOWN when passing an accident scene or people stopped in the emergency lane.

    FYI, in Ohio, when you file a police report for a deer strike, if the report says that the deer ran into you vs you hitting a deer, the insurance claim costs you nothing vs if you state that you hit a deer, you will at least pay a deductible.

    I’ve often considered installing a brush guard on the front of my Silverado, primarily due to the possibility of hitting a deer. A large brush guard would be pricey, however, it probably would have saved your front bumper.

    Mark, I dont know if i should thank you or ask you why you made me waste 3 minutes and 29 seconds of my life with the double rainbow video lol. It is a beautiful thing being in the wilderness and finding peace and seeing something magical while you're there is an amazing feeling. You can hear it in his voice that he was free and believed in the promise that he was shown in the sky. Thank you and your family for years of adventure and RV education. I can't wait to see what 2023 brings with your new season and our own RV adventures. Safe travels. Love you guys!!

    @Mark- I’m a solo traveler with pets- your 7 minutes per passenger (human and dog) is consistent! Every time I stop it’s about 21 minutes.
