Be mindfull of the tankage weight, try to dump the blackwater then flush the line out with greywater. You want to get rid of any extra weight on the long hop trips. Check the camper wheel hubs for any excess heat, and get used to checking tire pressure at each stop. Weight on the back of camper will cause fish-tailing, not what you want so get it level. Nice rig sounds good. Get a good water filter to get rid of any nasties, UV light too.

There is a big price difference but a diesel pickup is the way to go. We pulled a 38’ Jayco with a 2500HD Duramax for 11 years. No issues. Get a tire pressure monitor system for the trailer. Go to a Cat scale at a truck stop to check your axle loads. With your motorcycles in the back it’s going to be hard to get weight up on your 5th wheel. You don’t want to run with anymore water than necessary. Extra weight you don’t want. As for Mexico we traveled toll roads only and daytime only. Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan. Good areas. Just don’t take any chances in off beat places. You will learn as you go. 🇨🇦

Safe travels down Baja. Today we returned from an amazing 10 days. Beach camping was very warm on the Sea of Cortez side and not much beach camping in Baja Sur on the Pacific side (the weather was much better though). Careful on the roads - they are very narrow with NO shoulder, many, many pot holes, lots of hills and curves and lots of semis. Can’t wait to see your videos of Baja!

Don’t let the diesel crowd get you down. You have enough tow capacity as your RV is rated at 11,150lbs dry and 16,000 lbs max. Tongue weight is 2100lbs and your truck can handle 4100lbs payload and tow up to 18,000 lbs. You will want to hit a CAT scale and get all the weights. I agree with traveling with holding tanks empty and water tank just with enough water for boondocking. You are good to get 9-10 mpg in the flat and as low as 5-6 in the mountains. Safe travels!

  • @donmiller8152

pro tip..... hit a cat scale and weigh your rig fully kitted out and compare to your weight ratings gvw of your truck andlimits of towing capacity.... you will probably find you are out of capacity ranges.......you will probably discover that you dont have enough truck for your set up.. full ton diesel dually will better suit that rig.....

I'm honestly blown away that they're using a 2500 petrol. Then again they think hanging out in Mexico for weeks on end sounds like a good idea.

That kind of reminds us of when we left 100k north of Brisbane, Australia, headed north to Townsville then headed west towing our 21ft van with a Isuzu MUX getting around 14 litres per 100k continuing west to Western Australia to Broome before heading south to Perth and coming back by the Nullarbor Plains and back to Queensland, all in about 5 months. Enjoy your journey!

I was planning the same but in route met a few R'V'ers coming back and it honestly didnt sound relaxing with the current situation so I have been exploring Utah, Nevada, Arizona for now. I grew up 5 minutes from Hanna Park. My friends and I surfed Pelican Point and then all the way south to 17th st in Atlantic Beach. We also surf fished and fished the fresh water lakes in the park.
Also, you need bike stands in your hauler. And your mileage is decent because you’re in the flat lands. When you get to the mountains you’ll be down to 7 miles per gallon. Never let your tank go below a quarter tank. You’ll either thank me for that piece of advice or curse yourself the first time you run out of gas. Never trust your digital mileage display when it says you have XX miles to empty. When you’re pulling a trailer it can’t calculate that.

one that wants the best towing is a Diesel truck as they give the best overall as the Fuel give the best output in BTU's per gallon. my old 2004 Fifty wheel 36 foot camper I towed with a 6.6l Chevy 3500. I added a Banks chip and exhaust to It. rig totaled out at 22000. full of fuel and water. highway miles per gallon was 11 to 12 . when just the truck 15 miles per Gallon

My family and I RV'd for twenty years, outlived two RVs. Backup was the biggest chore, use good communications with driver and spotter. The refrigerator can run off the propane while on the road. Load some surfboards too. Don't fill water storage unless you're traveling through dessert aeras, empty gray/waste waters. Water weight is about 8 lbs per gallon. from the sound, I would say the truck is under powered, need 6.7 liter or larger.....West Texas...stop at Big Bend, read Zane Grey

I obviously have missed hearing any news lately so did not hear what I gather of something happening in Mexico ?. Ironically they go to the French Quarter and while I believe they have a certain amount of a police presence right in that area ( I was there some 20 years back ), the fact is so I understand from tour bus companies even warning about places in that city, is that some parts of New Orleans are so bad that the cops don't go there unless they are in large numbers so that they can make it back out alive. So Mexico no doubt has bad issues but the US and here in Canada, the major cities have horrible crime rates and its "migrating" to the smaller cities if you catch my drift.

That's a great looking rig! You may have said the reason why you didn't get a diesel in your previous episodes, but I don't remember why. I wouldn't tow that beast any faster then 70, really better at 65mph. Depends on the trailer tires on what speed they are rated for, then consider the road conditions, bumps and heat. Then consider the weather, especially wind. Pulling that much weight will never be efficient, no matter the fuel doing the work, but a diesel would be working way less. I pull a 10k pound 5th wheel with a 6.7 Cummins and I keep my speed under 70 and I get 12mpg for reference. Safe travels.

You will want to trade that gasser in ASAP for Diesel the range on a single tank of gas is short as well you cannot use Truck lanes to fuel. 1-Ton Diesel will nearly double your fuel economy and range especially in the mountains, PLus in a Diesel you can add a 40-50 tank in the bed for 700-900 mile range then use the truck lanes at trucjk stops with disounted fuel cost. You will not fit in alot of non commercial gas stations. We learned this the hard way

    • @josephdover198

Oh my God they're using a 2500 petrol?! lol I guess I'm the idiot then. When she said they want to use all 8 cylinders at once I laughed because Dodge diesels are inline 6 cylinders. They need to trade that truck while it's still worth something because hauling that will destroy it quick, fast and in a hurry. I wouldn't even want to use a Ford with the 7.3 Godzilla gas burner. What are they running a 5.7 hemi?

Speaking the truck shifting back-and-forth what you need to do is take it out of the overdrive use a lower gear. It will do way better.

    • @josephdover198
      @josephdover198 4 місяці тому +4

lol no they need a completely different truck. A 2500 petrol is not built to tow that. MAYBE a Ford with the 7.3 Godzilla but that's just stupid. They need a 3500 diesel. What you're suggesting might put less stress on the transmission but more stress on the motor. Imagine interstate hauling that and not using overdrive you're going to be winding ridiculous RPMs.

I’d rather be visiting Baja and the sea of Cortez by boat rather than in an RV, there are far too many dangers and risks involved travelling Mexico by road of late, espesially when towing a new, state of tne art RV. Its too much of a target for the cartels and criminals. Take care not to risk your lives if you are attacked or hijacked. Plus the road conditions are not great down south, some verynarow, pooraly maintained, and where the roads run out and you want to access a beach/beach RV Park with the RV, the dodge really needs heavy duty tractor type tyres, to pull through the sand and probably a stronger engine and tourqe ratio. Safe travels, may the wind always be in your sails.

For what you paid, you could have a very nice motorhome.

you should gotten a diesel truck, it would make your towing with easy. Gas truck gives you horrible gas mileage.

First of all you made your first mistake buy buying 35 ft. You should have bought 32 max. Your are going to have a problem getting into alot of places National parks ect.
Just some advice on your trip stay at truck stops and rest areas that will save you a tonn of money..
Also do not use the 4x4 when towing nor should u use the cruise control. I know your New to this, but I am a pro I get paid to do this. Meaning transporting trailers for location to locating. Also the truck should have a towing pkg for the tranny makesure that is on when towing..that's all..

Do not drink the water in your camper, even if you have a water filter setup. Buy bottle water to drink and cook with.

Most people call that a travel trailer or a fifth wheel. An RV is a Class A, B or C that you drive around, not tow.
