Caleb is such an amazing young man. When he was helping Winston with the sunscreen, my husband and I both said "What a good kid". You've done right by that one. Well done!
You including Winston in your ride says everything about you as people. Seeing Caleb help him & others shows shows the kind of parents you are. I think this was my favorite video you have ever made. You make the world a better place❤
I worked with a lady once that had actually lost her son and she would get upset when mothers would be sad when their kids headed off to their adult life. I have always tried to keep that in my mind as all mine headed off. And, I am ssssooo curious what is next for Mark and Trisha after they all leave the RV nest. Sailing??!!
I was just fixing to post this very same comment but the comment feature didn’t come up but then I saw yours. Thank you Winston for including God in your daily ride!
I did it in 1975, when I was a sophomore in college at Iowa State University in Ames Iowa. I still have the patch I earned on that ride and 48 years later, I still remember it.
My favorite part of this episode is the kindness shown. Kindness to all especially Winston! Caleb helping Winston with sun screen and everything else was heart warming.
This year 2024, we were the town they ended up in. Dipping their tires in the Mississippi River. Burlington iowa. It was so cool to see all the bikes .
“I didn’t say I wanted a beer… you asked if I wanted one, and I said yes!” Winston has been taking lessons from Caleb. I couldn’t cycle outside today so I rode the peloton. I waited until I had 5 minutes left in my ride, to start watching this video. Twenty five minutes later, my five minutes was up. I was totally engrossed. “Inspirational” doesn’t even start to describe you guys. ❤
This episode has brought tears to my eyes. My younger son has done RAGBRAI and it on my bucket list to do it with him. BTW, Winston is awesome and an inspiration! (as are you guys and the KYD community!)
So nice of you to let Winston ride with you guys! What a neat person he is! I almost cried thinking about how much Charlie will miss Caleb when they were in the water! How is Caleb going to leave all of us? I may be crying now! We love that sweet boy who has turned into an incredible man right before our eyes! ❤
My favorite thing about this video is Trish in the mornings. I like that she didn’t try to look like she was up and raring to go. She just got of bed and turned on the camera. That is why KYD feels so authentic. It makes me trust Leach family even more.
What a champion Winston is!! Very kind of the KYD team to ride with Winston!!! I have seen a lot of comments about Caleb and how great of young man he has become. The reason for that is that he has FABULOUS parents and family that is showing him the way!! GO WINSTON!!!!
I have been in Iowa in July with 90 degree temp AND 1500 percent HUMIDITY!!! I thought I was going to die and I am from TEXAS! I have been meaning to mention what an outstanding young man Caleb is. Y'all have done a wonderful job raising him; so be very proud!!!
We've been meaning to tell you for awhile now that we love, love, LOVE your cycling videos!! In fact, the main reason why we watch your channel is to see your cycling adventures! Caleb is absolutely amazing! Ah... Youth! 😁 Keep up the great work, you're all exceptional!
I grew up in Nebraska and remember hearing about RAGBRAI, so I turned on this episode for my kids to learn about this fun event. Then the Winston clips had them asking about cerebral palsy, so our homeschool day took a turn to learn about that as well. So much heartwarming inspiration packed into this one - I teared up multiple times!
In 1973, I had a Des Moines Register paper route. I was reading all week about the "great bike ride". On Saturday I got my dad to take me to Williamsburg, the last overnight town, with my new 10 speed bought with my paper route money. There were eighty riders ,EIGHTY. Nobody had ever seen such a thing. I rode the last day of the ride. It's amazing to see what RAGBRAI has become.
My absolute favorite part of this video is you all riding with the sun coming up. There is just something so special about the point where the new day begins with the rising of the sun. The day is brand new and it makes you feel like anything is possible! What an amazing adventure you have captured. Thanks for all your positivity and wonder you bring to the world. We sooooo need more of this type of inspiration!!! ❤
You guys...why are my eyes tearing up when you link up with Winston?!? And leading the group in prayer? Just amazing people!! Can't wait for next weeks video!! God Bless!
Hello Merlefest friends…today would have been my late husband’s birthday. As a stoker of a tandem team this was a bucket list trip that was never completed. I feel some how I have experienced RAGBRI with out every completing it. Thank you. I have herd many a story about the pork chops. Tasty for sure. Again, thank you…enjoy the journey. ❤
I am not a big KYDer. I have watched a lot of your videos but not every week. But I had to watch all of this one. My daughter lives in Des Moines, about a mile from Water Works Park. I have done RAGBRAI 4 times, 2014, 2016, 2018, and 2021. Really love it. Small town mid West is the best. Love the people! I generally stayed away from the big commercial vendors, and went with the small town groups raising money to support what ever they did. Churches, schools, fire departments, etc. My main goal each day was to find at least 1 slice of pie. I learned to start my day at first light, on the road before sunrise. Beat the heat and the over crowded roads. I always camped and wanted to find a shady spot to pitch my tent to relax on the hot afternoons. But I never started at 4AM! You got to ride through the stadium, I think it was 2018 when I did that. You didn't mention how hot it was this year, I heard it was a hot one! Congrats on finishing RAGBRAI. I am planning on doing it in 2024, might be my last, I'll be 72 then. Maybe I'll see you there!
I love that you found Winston to ride with. My uncle had cerebral palsy and was a paint-by-mouth art painter. Seeing Winston brought back memories. Jeff and Deb seem like wonderful friends, and what a cool list! Great video!
Living in Iowa for 25 yrs and having RAGBRAI go through my town multiple times. It is great to see how much fun people have. Thanks for sharing your experiences
So happy you were able to make it to RAGBRAI! I wish I could have met up with you, but we were riding out the heat wave camping in Indianola, Iowa at the National Hot Air Balloon Festival!
Had a chance to see Ragbrai finish in Clinton Iowa when we traveled through there 2 years ago. It was amazing seeing all the bikes come in in the final day!!
My husband has been (impatiently) waiting for this video! We moved from Iowa last year and miss events like these! So glad you got La Juas in Storm Lake-best of the best!
Loving this! We lived in Iowa for ten years. Ragbrai was such a big thing. It was so exciting whenever it came through our town. We had little kids at the time, so we never got to experience it as riders. But I have an uncle and cousins who have done it. I can’t wait until next week’s episode. I think I saw you were heading to coralville? We were pretty close to there.
Great job on the coverage... I can't wait for part two. I'm an Iowa native and you did an awesome job of showcasing our sate. BTW, I've been watching you since that first flat tire!
I cried and laughed watching this amazing video! You being there with Winston was what brought me to tears! Grateful tears! I also love the morning prayer! I've been watching your site for a couple of years now but this is the first time I've commented. It is just such a great video! Wow! Didn't want it to end. Thanks for all your hard work to bring us along.
What an absolute treat tonight's video is!!! I'm so excited for ya'll and the incredible experiences and memories you'll carry with you forever!! WooHoo!!!
Terrific vid, can’t wait for part 2. I’ve been a First AD in feature film production for 35 years, and for me it’s been cool to watch your camera, editing, music and VO skills get better and better over the years. Well done, team!
Wife and I were literally, in Storm Lake at that time visiting relatives. Sorry we missed the chance to say Hi. Maybe next year. As always, great heart felt movie. Helping others!
You guys rock and from a roady as well keep it going. 25mph 90 miles in. You guys are in sane. Thanks for sharing and also staying with Winston. I also have a cerebral palsy child and this touch my heart. Love you guys and please be safe
That was fun. All the people of Iowa do a tremendous job of putting on this event and the list of things to do is amazing too. I was so grateful you left early on the 100 mile day as going into the cornfield any later might have been real tricky.
LOL, you made the same mistake we did last year. By midnight we were done with the generators and moved our van. After that we found great quiet spots. It was a blast!
I LOVE this!! You are such wonderful storytellers and you captured this event beautifully! My husband and I are avid cyclists/Ironmen and we are IN for next year’s ride! Thank you for sharing this amazing event❤
I have been waiting for this all season. So glad you broke it up into more than 1 video. Amazing job. Thank you for welcoming Winston into your group!!!
Enjoyed watching this so much and I love that you all let Winston ride in your pack. What an amazing young man. Caleb this is a great life lesson for you and your helping Winston ❤
I just signed up for my first ever RAGBRAI! There are so many videos to watch- I feel like I know the event on a personal level, even though I have never taken part. Thanks for your video!
This episode was so special. I don't often cry watching a KYD episode but I did this time. It totally said our country is full of great and wonderful people and KYD helps to show that every week. And Caleb, you are one blessed young man. You have two of the greatest parents and it shows mightily in your day to day actions. Looking forward to next weeks RAGBRA excursion. Thank you so much KYD.
Great episode. Winston is correct, there is a difference in wanting something verses being asked if you want something. Beer in the morning is very nice, I must admit. What a great trip, can't wait for #2
This is such an emotional video! Love it. Thank you once again for sharing your journey and reminding us all of the beauty of the world around us and the humans who call it home… for now anyway.
This brings back memories….. I’ve ridin RAGBRAI 4 times. Loved every moment of every ride. Thank you for documenting your journey and sharing it with us.
One of your best videos! And we also got to meet you at the campground that weekend. You’re all so down to earth! Thank you for sharing your adventures!!! Keep them coming!!!
Oh my ! Just wow! So much fun! We used to cycle and you guys are making us want to start back!! I want to do this ride!!!! And love the checklist!!! You all are such an amazing family!!!❤
I grew up in Iowa and it is an awesome place. But I do want to let you know that I and grateful for taking me places I am not able to go due to handicap. Thank you again for all you do.
Loved this! You should look into the fat skinny tire fest win Winona Lake, Indiana! We have a beautiful little community with some trails you may enjoy
This is amazing! You guys have shown us so many amazing things to do. This one is one of my favorites. The whole concept of this ride is just perfect. Winston is such a great addition to this ride. Thank you for all that you guys do.
Love that you did RAGBRAI! We are looking to move to Iowa, its just checking all the boxes, and have been watching videos about this annual event! Hoping to do it myself at some point!
In 2012 I had the incredible good fortune to ride RAGBRAI with my youngest son. 4 days in the 100s topping out one day at 118 9n the pavement on the century day. After we dipped our wheels in the Mississippi, I turned to my son and said, "Well, you can check that off your bucket list". He looked at me and said, "Dad, that was never my bucket list".
I think its very cool that you did this "lil" bike ride in my home state! My brother has done the ride for ten years -- but he really roughs it by tent camping, which I think is a whole other experience. Three things you can always count on in Iowa, friendly people, good food and ridiculously hot temps on ride week.
One of your all-time best videos! Oh, did you know that I saw the Bird while on I-80 westbound near the junction of 80 and Hwy 37? If it wasn't the Bird it was the exact make, model, and paint job.
Such an awesome video, and a great family experience!! I grew up in Sioux City, Iowa, and Ragbrai is something that everyone looks forward to every year. I’m too far up in South Dakota now to help out, otherwise I’d definitely open up my yard and RV to the bikers, but I absolutely loved seeing the locals joining in on the road! The kids with the water hoses were awesome!! Lol Actually, my Dr rode in it this year and he rescheduled my appointment! Haha Then I guess he quit on the 3rd day because the heat and humidity were just so brutal this year, so I’m extremely impressed by you all!! I can’t wait to see part 2! Great job!!👍🚴🏼🚴♂️🚴🏻♀️
RAGBRAI!!! Yay! And another amazing video. Thank you so much for providing a way for this old lady (too old make the ride myself) to enjoy an epic bike ride through your eyes and experiences. God bless each of you. (Loved seeing you connect and build a relationship with Winston. He has inspired me to attempt some challenges in my own life.)
Wonderful job on the video, can’t wait until next week. So great to see an uplifting story of Ragbri. It was a hot one and you all handled it so beautifully.
love that you guys did this! Brings back memories. I will say, I didn't see having 'virgins' written on your calves on your checklist ;) RAGBRAI, what a great bucket list experience. And Caleb's morning hair, I'm jealous!
Caleb is such an amazing young man. When he was helping Winston with the sunscreen, my husband and I both said "What a good kid". You've done right by that one. Well done!
🎉🎉🎉🎉
OMG I said the same exact thing. Glad someone else noticed that.
Winston grew up with my nephews in Bluff Park Alabama. He and his family are special people. My family will be so happy to watch this!
You including Winston in your ride says everything about you as people. Seeing Caleb help him & others shows shows the kind of parents you are. I think this was my favorite video you have ever made. You make the world a better place❤
Yes to all of this! My favorite KYD video too!
Winston starting each morning in prayer, blessed team. Outstanding show of human kindness. God bless you all.
THE BEST KYD YET!
I don’t want the day to come when Caleb goes off to his next stage of life. Can he just stay with you for another 10 years or so??!🥰
Me too! I cried last week when they were just talking about him leaving!
I worked with a lady once that had actually lost her son and she would get upset when mothers would be sad when their kids headed off to their adult life. I have always tried to keep that in my mind as all mine headed off. And, I am ssssooo curious what is next for Mark and Trisha after they all leave the RV nest. Sailing??!!
@@theicangram
According to their plan a couple years ago and their first ever videos, sailing is their end goal.
@@Hugo-Hernandez I hope that is where they go with it all. With some international travel mixed in!!
I think he needs to create his own channel and post little updates when he can.
Welcoming Winston to ride with y’all made my heart happy. He’s a hoot!!
In the midst of all the angst on the news, you guys are a breath of fresh air and true America. ❤
I agree 100, we all need a break from the media.
Winston leading the prayer warms my heart! Go KYD!!!🚴♂️🚴🚴♀️
I was just fixing to post this very same comment but the comment feature didn’t come up but then I saw yours. Thank you Winston for including God in your daily ride!
Their connecting with Winston was an unexpected treat and a testament to the KYD family. KUDOs!!

We love the Peloton at the cabin. Thanks! Riding while watching riding is the best.
Iowan here. This warms every part of my heart.
Winston, what a guy! Caleb, a true human being helping out. KYD with friends, is nothing but awesome! Looking forward to the next episode.

Thank you for showing RAGBAI. Iowa is truly a hidden gem. ❤

RAGBRAI!!! Yay! And another amazing video. Thank you so much for providing a way for this old lady (too old make the ride myself) to enjoy an epic bike ride through your eyes and experiences. God bless each of you. (Loved seeing you connect and build a relationship with Winston. He has inspired me to attempt some challenges in my own life.)

love that you guys did this! Brings back memories. I will say, I didn't see having 'virgins' written on your calves on your checklist ;) RAGBRAI, what a great bucket list experience. And Caleb's morning hair, I'm jealous!
