Had a great time at the KYD Cabin in 2020. Went to Sedona, Grand Canyon, Petrified Forest and great local hikes in Flagstaff. They are generous hosts and quick to respond with cabin questions. We FINALLY have our own camper van so our adventure continues...on the road!
This was a super helpful video. We are currently between RVs, but we just purchased a second home on the west coast with our primary home on the east coast. So knowing how to "distance" live in two places is very helpful. Thanks for all the great tips on travel.
I believe that you do look at your experiences from a somewhat different prospective than most other RVers, whether they be living in an RV for a short term vacation or living in an RV full time. Because your UA-cam exposure (social media) makes you high profile you have zero trouble making new acquaintances or fiends. I'm quite gregarious, ask my wife, but I don't have the same experiences that you do, simply because I need to introduce myself and convince others that I don't have ulterior motives. For the most part RV folk are very friendly and helpful, but to be as open, as we see on your channel, is not quite so normal. I don't say this to bash you or to impede your journey, just to let you know that you are unique and us "regular" folk may not have the same experiences.
Safe travels and again I think your videos are not just well made, from a production point of view, but are fun and informative.
Been of the road a few yrs so haven’t kept up with channel.
Forgot what an amazing blessing y’all are.
Thanks for this great vid.
Love your channel. This episode was especially timed since my wife and I are thinking of converting our rental home into an Airbnb. Thank you. We travel full time now in our RV but we always watch your channel.
You guys have done practically everything we did with our beach vacation home in Florida, just a beachfront condo, but it was homey and inviting! We owned and self managed it for 11 fun years. We hired our own housekeeper, did our own bookings, etc. It’s the best way! We had everything available for our guests, and then some. Right down to chocolate mints at the bedside. It was fun, especially on the occasions we got to stay ourselves. It’s a fun business to run and when you have happy return guests, it is totally worth it! Yep, the right kitchen tools so they don’t ruin your supplies. 😎😜
Wow! Modern stuff, you got there !!
You have everything laid out perfect and even giving guests access to your expensive cookware is amazing I would love to stay in the KYD cabin sometime
Happy Sunday yall, security is definitely a top priority for those on the road! Love yall 3000!
Love my Nest! I got one 8 years ago and it’s saved me so much money in terms of heat in winter and AC in summer!
Your comment 25:27 about toilet paper is no joke! We bought a little lake house and rent it out with Air b and b and I am always in disbelief at how much provided products people use!! Toilet paper, paper towels, zip lock bags etc. we had to just leave one roll of TP and paper towel and a trash bag because our profits were getting nickeled and dimed by leaving large quantities out. We felt like an all you can use resort and taken advantage of for such a small place. Great video. You guys definitely inspired us to get a rental house and we can’t wait to get another RV when the time is right. You inspire us. Thank you.
Love our Ring Floodlights. Can see our whole front & back yards. Have it set to say "Hi, you are being video recorded" when it detects someone. I was able to talk to our mail person from another state to remind them of a hold we put on our mail once.
Our Ring cameras show us the deer and coyote that roam our backyard. :) I love all your ideas. Thank you! The kitchen is my favorite place in the home. I love Trish's ideas.
Next time you need a “friend” to stay at the cabin, and give you a summarization of what you’re missing or can do better, please give me a call! 😉🤗💖🙏
Safe Travels, guys ❤️ I have to laugh when Marc gets so excited with new tech 😆
Very cool video, good job. I love your content. I in Flagstaff for 20 years.
Thank you so much for this video. Everything you mentioned is helpful for your own home as well as a vacation rental.
Hello Mark, Trish, & Caleb! This was wonderfull! Appreciated it!
Oh my God! Now I CANNOT say pillows anymore... PALLOWS sound so much better! lol
You guys are amazing.
What a great video. very informative and kind of exciting. You guys put a lot of thought into things and it works great. I love that you're not "over the top" on spending/wasting a lot of money on things that are expensive because of the "brand". Lots of grea ideas. Thank you so much for sharing
a lot of good ideas, have a blessed week!
We put smart plugs for all the lights (including the Christmas lights) so all the lights have a schedule. We also put our can lights on smart switches. It’s been amazing. Installing a Nest is next on my list.
When we rented a place, I spent an afternoon cleaning their vacuum. It worked great after we left.
Awesome video! Just had to comment and say one thing about your locks. It only bothers me because I'm a locksmith lol your levers are upside down. There's a poke hole on both sides. You can remove them and change the orientation. The lever should by design be waving up instead of down. Just thought I'd share. I've learned so much from your videos! We just bought our first camper!
Do you mean that I installed it upside down (incorrectly) or a better design would be to flip it?
Well told & well instructed on your home base "homeiness" ... leaving for the *Guests to feel welcomed & with warmth embraced 💝. That is the KYD living way & with 'Smart' values‼️
Norwex is amazing and cleans without chemicals. Just water. Our mop system has the extendable handle and the bendable dust attachment as well as attachments to clean windows, shower doors, tiles and camper exteriors ! I’m an Independent Consultant in Ontario and can answer any questions.
Love the longer video, some great ideas. I like the Moen water gadget. We leave for Glacier in 4 months from MS so I will check into some the items.
Can't wait for your travel videos.
Hi KYD family!!
Thanks so much for the great tools to use! Safe travels!
This was so great! I totally got a lot out of it and will be ordering those sheets!
I have the Ecobee Thermoset upstairs and downstairs in my house. I can do everything through the App just like yours. Last summer my upstairs AC stopped working when I was out of town and through the App I was notified, and I was able to turn it off, so it didn't run 24/7 trying to cool the upstairs I love it. The system was running but not cooling
I have the exact same Dyson vacuum and I LOVE IT!! Really expensive but worth every penny. I never would’ve considered one until I met an ex-gf who had one. When we parted, I sold my expensive Kirby system and bought that Dyson. 7 years strong of serious furkids hair and it still amazes me!
Love love love this video! Ps we were at a hotel in Indy one year and the hotel had the Cubie alarms and we loved it so much we ordered one. O...m....g.... we ordered the slightly bigger version the Cubie Blue and have had it for over 4 years now and stinking love it!
OMG, just snagged a flash deal on the sheets for 25.00 vs 51.00. So hard to find good sheets. Thanks for the tip!
Love the bedroom clock that goes completely dark!!
Thank you for these gadget ideas! Awesome!
A very inspiring and well produced video(as usual)! We are working towards building a new home and living in our motorhome full time in the meantime. I want to keep in mind to make our new home as technologically advanced as is affordably possible. I'm more an early adopter, but some things I take my time accepting. Love the Moen water valve, as well as the door locks, and Ring cameras. Like someone else said, it would be a good idea to have some sort of battery backup or generator, should the power go out, so you dont lose your connectivity (At least that way, but if internet goes out locally, not much you can do about it).
We are aiming to travel more ourselves this year, hope to see you somewhere. Have a great day!
I agree with those comments, but when the power comes back on, so do all the devices. IT's never been a problem. If something didn't work, we've have our house cleaner turn off/on.
@@KeepYourDaydream that's good, at least you have a method that works for you, as you guys have been doing this for some time successfully. I watch and am amazed at what you do, and your implementation. We're still learning what works for us, and developing our content presentation style. Like I said, you're an inspiration!
Thank you so much what amazing products!!! Great video
Great episode...enjoyed all the helpful tips and products! Ty
Excellent! Moving to the Crystal Coast with the idea that maybe in the summer of '24, we'll beat the humidity and take our Class B north and rent the house out. Trish, your tips were priceless!
Very informative and interesting video. Especially liked the Smart devices as it’s something I would like to incorporate more into our home. Great cleaning tips too.
You guys are awesome and great communicators. We learn a lot from your video's. Love Trisha's cookbook and spices. Thank you. Would love to meet you guys someday and have Trish sign my cookbook.
Thank you Sylvia! Trish loves signing cookbooks. See you down the road!
I’d love to have that Moen water monitor/shutoff for my RV…not only leak detection but to turn the water to the RV on/off when leaving for a period of time.
Nicely done! I hope to get to stay there one day!
Haha! Cubitime Alarmclock from Brandstand is my brother-in-laws company! They sell to hotels all over the world!!
I got the idea from a hotel we stayed at this year. I really like it. Tell him nice job.
Just bought the sheet set! It's only 39.99 Canadian right now! The place looks amazing!
Great tips in this video. Thanks
Yes!!! Happy dance. 😏😉
I have a ring doorbell. I love the ring doorbell UA-cam channel. I bought my ring watching that channel and since I have not had one porch pirate and feel so much safer but it does freak out my neighbor. Love your home I think it is absolutely gorgeous!!! I'd like that kind of security for the RV
I still left dark facecloths for guests, but also left individually packaged eye makeup remover cloths for the ladies.
Love the tips.❤
Is a “ZESTER” aka “whisk”? One of the great “guest” books dated back to 1935 which also included photographs from what was known as “Happy Landings” which included a Prayer Tree and a spectacular Lake & Sky views. IDEA: in my Rolling Dog House RV the “master” mattress requires folding up to close the slide - the sheets & mattress pads would flail off the mattress. Problem solved with mattress pad & sheet stretchers. (BED SCRUNCHIE Sheet Holder Straps - Heavy Duty Gripper Clips - Strengthened Parachute Cord - 360 Degree Bed Sheet Tightener - Strongest and Effective Extender - Fits All Mattress Sizes)
Man, Trish thinks about everything! Where would Marc be without Trish?
Very nice
Lots of great ideas… including renting KYD cottage. I love that idea. I feel like it’s a home away from home already.
I love that Caleb got his 5 seconds of fame here and there, including yet another “egg omelette “. Or was that Marc? Can’t tell the legs apart in a short clip like that.
Love the video! I’m curious what’s around the cottage? Is there a bit of property? Space from neighbours? Outdoor shots would be nice to see what’s around it.
Excited to book the cabin! 11 hr drive but I’m sure it’s going to be worth it!! ❤
Get smart bulbs. Ive automated all my lights for the last three years. Sun goes down, porch lights, kitchen lights all come on and at dawn the porch lights go off. Oh you may be wondering if I manually turn off lights because that's a yes and no answer. I utilize google home app and when I say "Hey Google, Bedtime" the lights turn off, doors lock, thermostat turns down or up, security system arms. I love tech.
Thank you! This was a very helpful video ❤
You didn't mention this so thought I might add one idea ... to have your modem/wifi router on a backup battery. I worked from home in a rural area for a major company, and power has gone down 3-4 times a year possibly leaving me stranded. I can live without lights, etc. but not internet. Am sure all your smart devices, which are extremely cool btw!! are on their own battery backup but if wifi goes down for an extended time ... my APC battery was around $400 but well worth it to keep wifi going for several hours. Love the video!! Watched since your first RV trip.
We use ARLO cameras and a Ring. You can see multiple locations around a house and its reasonably priced.
keep the clips coming
We use smart light switches, plugs, thermostat, cameras, etc. Someone from India hacked my Amazon account so everything went offline. Had to physically be back on site 1,400 miles away from where we were enjoying a warm winter to reset everything!
We stayed at the the KYD cabin and loved it. I'd say just don't go in July because there is no AC and being a Floridian, we are use to the AC. 😂
Yes, July is maybe the only hot month. We are looking into adding AC using the furnace ducting. Kinda expensive for just 1 month, but we'll likely do it anyway.
Every now and then you all have a video I'm not interested in at all. But then I go ahead and start watching it and next thing you know I'm digging all of it. Great job just making good content, whatever the context.
Have you all thought about heated towel racks. They are a must in Europe but are beginning to be used in the USA.
Great video! Do you have a link to the bedside swinging arm lamps in the master bedroom? I'm having a hard time finding lamps that have an on/off switch down on the cord so you can reach it while in bed thank you!
Love you guys and this episode was great! looking for the link to the sheets that don't wrinkle. 😊
Great video!!
You certainly had a better customer service from Dyson than I experienced! Mine developed issues and it was like they couldn’t care less. No help whatsoever! After my experience I can’t say I would ever invest in another. I was so disappointed.
Awesome video 🤘👍
Awesome vlog. I see we have the same Nest Thermostat and most of all, we have the same Ninja Coffee Maker 🤣😎😎👍🏿. I also use a Yeti coffee mug. This is getting scary. Do you guys have a camera in our house 🤣🤣🤣. Stay safe and always watching here in Michigan...
Have you ever smelled Young Living’s Thieves Household Cleaner? It smells so great, I *almost* enjoy cleaning. 😆
Hi Guys!
Hello! Great info! Can you please send the link on Amazon for the mattress cover that’s waterproof that doesn’t make noise?? Thank you so much! Great video!
Very useful tips! 🖖🏻😘👍🏻🙏🏻
Great Video! The only potential flaw of your smart home is the Internet. So you will lose all of the access to these smart devices during an internet or power outage. I know Ring or Google nest does provide backup Internet/cellular connection, which allows you still be able to reach your smart devices when there is a power/Internet outage. Obviously it only works within its own ecosystem. But one of the other tip on smart home is to stick with one. Otherwise, you may end up with tons of apps on your phone, and it's also hard to make them work together :)
With the nest thermostat you have access that you can check in the winter if you are gone, that guest didn't decide to do you a favor and save you some money by turning off the heat. Heating in the winter in an area like that is imperative. Broken pipes are no joke when it is freezing outside. Do you have a way to turn on a faucet to drip so your pipes don't freeze? I have to be honest; I have never done that in my apartment when it gets down to 0, and I don't know how effective that is to ensure pipes don't freeze. I always keep my heat on at about 68 or 69.
OMG Trish!!! P-I-I-I-llOWS!! Just bought me a set.
Hope you're well honey. Just saw a post that Tori put up in instagram. Made me a bit concerned.
Sending hugs and peaceful vives.
We are Late Adopters as well!!!! 😄
In the last chapter, if I'm not mistaken, at the end are the most important words about how difficult this is and life, but it seems to me that when editing again it was deleted, or perhaps it was in another chapter, but for me that is the most important thing about all "imagine if life is hard you won't get out of it alive" ohh wow.
Mark. Just a heads up on the Flo by Moen. I have been using for 2 1/2 years with NP, well we just left in a 3 month trip and it went offline and I need to reboot. When I get back I will put a smart outlet there so I can reboot remotely.
Good tip. I guess we'd have our hose cleaner do that, but I like your solution for people that don't rent their home and thus have people coming by.
So many weekend rentals you show up and there are no tools to work with. I mean what is there is so cheap and dysfunctional, and then you pretty much have to go buy plastic spoons and forks to eat with and paper plates. Then they don't understand why things don't last! If you give people real pots and pans that work and utensils that match those pots and pans and silverware to eat off of, and some paper towels, and dish towels and stuff they will need to be comfortable. I remember spending a fortune staying in this huge vacation rental in Truckee California, near lake Tahoe. A huge, expensive home and cheep a** tools and dishes. I think we had to eat off plastic dishes.
Cameras are great, buuuut….I stayed at my daughter and son in laws house to watch the dogs, they have no neighbors so I ran out to my car in a T-shirt and underwear, completely forgetting about their cameras and the notification on their phone 🙄 She texted me, “mom, we have cameras”! 😳
Great information, have safe travels !
Blessings
26:50 A good idea would be to install a "anti tip over" cable for the TV. I am a STR host. Ask me how I know... :)
Love the video! So fun! I looked on your Amazon page but didn’t see the silverware. Is it from Costco? And where are the dinner plates and kitchen dishes from?
So how did you downsize when you started? Sell stuff (how)? Donate? Trash? Would love to hear your feedback on this. I envy your minimalism.
Awesome job on the beginnings of a smart home. I have many of the same products as you, and then some… What really kicks it to the next level is controlling all the devices with a digital assistant like Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, Apple Home, etc. Imagine not even having to use your phone to turn the AC down from your bed. Just say ‘Alexa, please lower the AC to 72 degrees.’ Or saying ‘Alexa, I’m leaving’ and Alexa will turn everything off that you don’t want on and notify you on your phone if she hears a smoke alarm, broken glass, etc. Some people don’t like digital assistants because they are always listening. Renters may not like someone else’s device listening to them. You can leave instructions to unplug the devices or leave them plugged in for voice automation. Personally, I got over the concern of my own devices listening to me in my home when I realized many other devices are also always listening (phones, TV, tablets, computers, etc.).
no thanks, we already have way too much info about things like Alexa listening all the time to private conversations
I wish I had a reason to vacation to Flagstaff, AZ. But I don’t. 😔 Looks like a great cabin though. Very well thought out.
Hello! Hope you guys are doing great. I just realized Tricia looks so much like Reese Witherspoon. Have you been told that before?
Depending on what she is wearing, in public, restaurant staff has taken bets in the back.
Can you add the link to the towels? I cannot find then on the KYD Amazon page
Awesome vedio
Great video and timely as we are looking into making changes to keep our house safe while we travel. One issue we have had is the modem hanging up after a month which makes all the smart devices useless. Have you done anything to address issue? I wonder if a simple outlet timer that would reboot the modem once a day or neighbor who is willing to come over when necessary is the way to go? Thanks.
Someone else suggested a smart plug. Not a bad idea. In our case, we would have our house cleaner cycle the modem, but you might need to find a trusted neighbor or friend.
We rent our home on Jekyll island we do most of what you do.
That said, we lost our Dyson last year (stolen). The shark is okay too( less costly)
That’s sad! I guess there are people like that. Did they not think you could tell who?
You video was very good as usual. I do have one question- what do you do with your families personal items when having guests in the home? Thanks.
The shed. Couldn't live without that! But most of that stuff we're trying to get rid of!
Love, love, love the cabin! Just curious, where is the microwave? 😊 We’ve been toying with the idea of renting out our home in Phoenix, but we have one serious flaw that we cannot seem to find a solution for. We have 3 ring cameras outside & without fail every time we travel out of state our internet goes down! We have Cox, can’t find a better replacement… We also have the Orbi Wi-Fi, which cox is saying is the problem, but funny how after I call them I have internet without interruption for months! It’s very frustrating!
Consider Starlink, but we also have Cable TV for guests even though we don't watch TV. We have a microwave in the cabinet next to the kitchen. That's our "pantry" and open and available for the guests things too.
Should have put in a manual bypass for the device so you can replace easily
I know you don’t do podcasts much anymore but I drive 40 minutes to work. Would give my left pinky but not a thumb to hear about the investment property blog on a podcast.
We really like that format but can’t keep up with that too. Maybe someday. We did share a lot in the blog and can add more.
What is the brand of the mattress protector you use?
Yes yes yes! Guestbooks are amazing. We no longer have our vacay home, but I still have my guestbooks. We made some good friends.
