The book was actually pretty good and I feel like it's one of those types of movies that would have benefited from narration because lowkey the point of the book was how all peoples lives are connected like the main girl got the appointment because there was girl at security who made her late to her previous appointment and she was planning on committing suicide that day but the main girl called the immigration office and was like tell her I said thank you because she helped give me a chance to stay in America and that small act of kindness like convinced the other to like get help and then years in the future she became a flight attendant to better connect with people and met the main character again and finally got to say thank you and then Daniel was also on the plane, which is how they met up
I actually liked your ending better about her convincing him that love doesn’t exist rather than the opposite. That would’ve been much more interesting
Young adult romances just don't translate well to the screen. I really enjoyed the book because it actually does take place in one day, and shows how people's lives affect each other. The actual romance part was secondary to me. The writing and seeing the different background characters lives intertwining was what kept me hooked.
Same. I liked the romance okay, but the best part was the portrayal of all the people that would be 'secondary' or 'unimportant' in any other book, the way they showed all the little interpersonal situations that affected everybody. It was fantastic to watch but it doesn't translate well onscreen, and I feel like they shouldn't have bothered with the movie if they were going to skim on the parts that made the book so special.
Genuine question why young adult tomances doesnt that doesnt translate well ? Is because this book takes places in one day with many characters? many films do that like Magnolia
@@mauli. yes! That's the best way to describe it, they did the butterfly effect so well in the book but the film literally only showed how Daniel's interview got into the accident. It made the movie more one dimensional by removing those moments.

Also, the dude is hella cute, but I can't stand all that cringy stuff he says, if I was her I'd be very weirded out.
yeah damn everything he said physically hurt me. to make a believable "love at first sight" story you have to think so outside the box and write a story of the century, not just have them stare for 4 minutes and be like "I love you". by that logic she'd have fallen in love with any stranger with that stupid ass formula
The film took out about 90% of the interesting plot points and every other complex character, and the characters they kept they made sure to make them one dimensional. I had to force myself to sit through it, it is a disaster.

Tbh it wasn't as good as the book but they didn't change any of plot scenes apart from the end so it was interesting to watch the adaptation. The soundtrack was really the only good thing about the movie
They missed so many details in the book it made me so mad! They skipped the whole scene where they first meet and when they see natashas ex. The red tie! They completely left out the red tie and the ponytail. And I hate how she didn’t have a real afro
@@kasenbrown8952 that is very true. But they didn't change points that it made it jarring. Yeah I was sad they removed those parts but I guess that their artistic viewpoint was different. Also I'm low key tired of Yara Shahidi and Amandla playing all the black teens so I get what u mean about the afro
@@Ella-yd4re In a lot of ways, they did leave out the parts that made the book so special to me. The book went into so much more detail about who the characters really were. For example: Natasha's relationship with her father and how that explains her disbelief in love, the social worker and his assistant and how their interactions impacted Natasha's life, even the security woman and Natasha's unknowing saving of her life. All of these things made the story so full and real that it makes the movie seem weak.
Rebekah Walton you have to prove that you intend to live a life together with documents ie joint bank accounts, rent/lease agreement, or prove you’ve been in a relationship for a while and if you’ve already been placed in deportation status couples have to try even harder to convince ice agents that they’re together for love and not a green card. It would hard to prove that 2 teenagers that just met would know that they want to spend the rest of their lives together.
No they couldn't have. Everyone just assumes you can marry a citizen and suddenly all your problems go away but they clearly have no idea how it actually works. There are so, so many reasons why that wouldn't have works.
“I’ve heard it fantastic and I want to check it out. I wanted to see the movie first so I don’t get anything spoiled.” Who watches the movie first so the *book* doesn’t spoil anything?
I do, films are usually less detailed than the books they're based on. If I watch the film first I can just enjoy it as a film, then if I read the book I don't find myself distracted by what the film told me. If I read the book first then all I can focus on when watching the film is what they've changed and it really lessens my enjoyment of what might be a good film, just a poor adaptation

For three months they skyped and called daily, fell in love. My uncle moved there and after a few months proposed. They got married and have been together for almost 10 years and are the strongest people I know. Fun fact V had to translate so much for them bc he learned spanish. Its unlikely for situations like these to happen sure, but its how we meet new people that we are "destined" with
I was going to work (btw I'm Portuguese) and I was going on a boat. So I saw a guy and i really liked him.. he was so hot. Ok .. yeah ..so ... went to work and after that, I went home ..again on a boat..and i saw the same guy ..i thought that he was stalking me or something 🤷♀️... but this time we smiled ..yeah just that.
turns out that I matched with him on tinder ..but we never spoke there... so because I was bored I went on tinder while waiting for my bus and I saw him ..on my matched people.. and sent a message... well we start speaking and we became friends and ended up kinda dating for 2/3months?! But then he had to go back to America. Because he's American.. and it's being 4 years since we dont see each other but we still speak and I still love him . And I know that we will be together again soon..
Destiny is real.

Before reading this comment I thought Audible's logo was yellow and now I'm confused.
The book was actually pretty good and I feel like it's one of those types of movies that would have benefited from narration because lowkey the point of the book was how all peoples lives are connected like the main girl got the appointment because there was girl at security who made her late to her previous appointment and she was planning on committing suicide that day but the main girl called the immigration office and was like tell her I said thank you because she helped give me a chance to stay in America and that small act of kindness like convinced the other to like get help and then years in the future she became a flight attendant to better connect with people and met the main character again and finally got to say thank you and then Daniel was also on the plane, which is how they met up
There were more connections in the book but that's the main one I remember
For real though

@Booper Dooper I agree. Sometimes, I wonder if their sales had gone up since Dylan started advertising them in his videos.

@Dionysian Beast that's an actual movie. But Bollywood not Hollywood.

That's funny cause I enjoyed the movie more than the book. Especially the ending. Especially the tons of french kisses.
Genuine question why young adult tomances doesnt that doesnt translate well ? Is because this book takes places in one day with many characters? many films do that like Magnolia
yes exactly, it had history and how it led us here and how people affect people without ever knowingg, it was perfect butterfly effect
@@mauli. yes! That's the best way to describe it, they did the butterfly effect so well in the book but the film literally only showed how Daniel's interview got into the accident. It made the movie more one dimensional by removing those moments.

The Sun is Also a Star book is one of my favorites, I love Nicola Yoon’s writing so much, but I didn’t even see this movie because the characters looked way older than high school students and it just didn’t feel the same
Tbh it wasn't as good as the book but they didn't change any of plot scenes apart from the end so it was interesting to watch the adaptation.

They could have just gotten married for her green card.
Rebekah Walton honestly I legit thought that was the plot
That's the more realistic plot, but no, they wanted a contrived, stupid plot.
There are so, so many reasons why that wouldn't have works.

that should be on like a motivational plaque or something
“I’ve heard it fantastic and I want to check it out. I wanted to see the movie first so I don’t get anything spoiled.”
Who watches the movie first so the *book* doesn’t spoil anything?
Dylan apparently 😂
I do it frequently. Makes it so I don’t hate the movie for being “wrong.”
Also like tbf, he's doing a commentary on it, I imagine if he already knew the plot that would take from it some
I do sometimes so I'm not as annoyed knowing it deviated from the book...or wasn't as good as the book.
Sometimes.
