I’ve always felt this way but I’m also not exactly able to articulate for others why the song/lyrics make me feel like that! “Everything under the sun is in tune but the sound is eclipsed by the moon”. If you get it, you get it! I will say I was at my elderly parents house for the total eclipse in April of this year and I made sure to play “Eclipse” in the minutes leading up to and during totality! It meant a lot to me!
What made this so incredible was that throughout the ceremonies they were playing or referencing British music and you had the feeling there was one band missing and you wondered if or how they’d use them, the organizers knew EXACTLY where to have them, BRILLIANT!! Now I get misty-eyed whenever I hear Eclipse, I flash back to the first time I saw this, it was so perfect
Great video :-) I sat watching the show and thought Are they really NOT gonna play Pink Floyd?? And then it came with the great finaly... ahhh what a feeling... :-)))
Whoever thought all those years ago, when Pink Floyd began their careers at a time when their music and the culture they represented was so looked down upon by the society of the day, that they’d one day become legends
VERY nice montage of videos - thanks. this was by far the best Olympic torch lighting ever. however, after the "pink Floyd fireworks" bringing in Paul McCartney just doesn't seem to fit. they should've ended it right after eclipse.
I agree about The Floyd, but the actual best lighting the Olympic flame came from the 1992 Barcelona Olympics!! UA-cam has it ! Check it out. I don’t want to spoil it!!
@@noreligion2 maybe I'm a bit cynical but i think that flame woulda started no matter where that arrow went. slow the video down to .25 and see what i mean
I remember watching the ceremony and the parade of British bands and artists and cultural achievements and thinking God did they really skip Pink Floyd, what a stupid mistake. And then this happened.
Eclipse is probably the song that sums up the human existence best.
It is a beautiful metaphor.

the most perfect and epic ending with Eclipse and The End
I am watching it right now doing my daily exercises. Fantastic memories of the best Olympic games. Ever.
Eclipse... the definitive song!
This has put a very, very big smile on my face
How did I not know this happened back then?
Yeah I feel the same
Same here
I remember sitting in my couch, just silently crying. 50 years later and Pink Floyd is still the greatest band in history.
@@anaperugorria actually no actually The Beatles is the greatest band ever :) but whatever they're top 3 oat

When a Pink Floyd song is greatest than the Olympic Games
I was teary eyed during this event
When the heartbeat starts... goosebumps
El lado oscuro de la Luna.el mejor disco de la historia de la música!!!
Y como bien dicen en otro comentario, se tenía que haber acabado la ceremonia con ese grandísimo final de Eclipse.

Thanks.
The London 2012 Olympic Games Opening and Closing Ceremonies had hands down the best music.
well shit, my two favorite songs of all time in one sitting. huh
makes me feel alive sublime beauty
Thank God! I’m here for both Abbey Road and DSotM!
nunca jamas habrá otra ceremonia en los juegos olímpicos como la apertura y clausura de Londres 2012.
The Best Endings
well that was really a begining - if only they'd gone with The Great Gig for the closing ceremony🙂
There was a reason why the stand holding the lights are Triangles.

I agree. No disrespect to Paul McCartney but having him play the finale after Eclipse kind of felt out of place.
right, i'm a beatles fan but they should've ended it right after eclipse, or maybe they bring paul mccartney before the outro part

phishfearme2 Yes it was set to flame no matter how good the shot was but how cool was it to shoot a flaming arrow like that!!
Epic
If you want to see the best lighting of the cauldron, you can look up the 1992 Barcelona Olympics!!
George and John would came from heaven and hell (respectively) just to play the solos on The End a last time
Should have just ended it with PF...
I'm fully agree with you
Great Video but am I right in thinking that all seats had a video screen in front of them
waters ¤¤¤¤ gilmour
y tambien Wrigth, Mason y Barret
i droped in to hear PF only , nothing else was inmportant or interesting.
It seems like it is the press zone... Maybe I am wrong, but feels like not haha
Should have ended with Eclipse, the McCartney bit at the end was kind of crappy as his voice has clearly gone.
