The opening and closing ceremonies of London 2012 could just have been two simple gigs featuring only the best British music artists and they would have still been the greatest opening and closing ceremonies of all time.
Imagine if the ox was still alive and he played my generation bass solo with his amazing tone there !!! RIP John and Keith we all miss you so much masters of rock...
Summer 2012 was so exciting: we had the diamond jubilee, the Olympics, the Paralympics, and the Queen parachute jumping. Britain was the centre of the world like never before!
I actually started to tear up because of this performance. It's great to see them still so energetic on stage. It's so sad that John and Keith couldn't be here with them. They're still great, I can oblige that, because I saw them live March of 2016.
The Beatles, The Who, Rolling Stones, Queen, Procol Harum, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Pink Floyd, Jethro Tull, King Crimson, Yes, Genesis, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Saxon, Def Leppard, Whitesnake, Dire Straits, Rainbow, Motorhead, Marillion, DragonForce, Coldplay, Muse, Placebo, Cradle Of Filth, Napalm Death, Oasis, BFMV, Bring Me The Horizon THE UNITED KINGDOM OF ROCK/METAL
Well if The Kinks, Beatles and Small Faces are mentioned, there's John Mayall (The mentor) and the Bluesbreakers, David Bowie, The Hollies,The Jam, The Cure, Moody Blues, 10CC, Cream, Derek and the Dominos, New Order, The Yardbirds, Jeff Beck, Echo and the Bunnymen,...and Tommy Steele (sarc). So it's not just Rock and Metal where the UK rules
Yeah he actually has a great voice just as it is - but remembering how old he is and how many screams and feats his voice has performed (endured) it's miraculously awesome. I can't believe he could do these awesome songs such great justice! And seriously, Pete's guitar playing is just getting better...
Johannes Wiberg There's something quite beautiful hearing him do the middle section ("Don't cry...") which is uncommon? I wonder why this was an exception? Olympics Ceremony running low on mics?! Haha
Have seen The Who so many time live......................Roger and Pete still perform as well today as they did when they began back in 1964!!!! 53 years ago. Wonder what bands of today will still be able to belt it out 53 years from now??? Thank you Roger and Pete for such wonderful music..Truly" our generation"
+David Eason but seriously it's because the Americans invented the Blues then forgot about and came along Rock n Roll and the Brits put a bit of blues back in Rock N Roll with and introspective twist on it.
The British really know how to put on a spectacular show! Thanks for the Olympics being there in 2012. I love it with Queen Elizabeth and Bond beginning. This is the end!
THE WHO was always my favorite rock bands since the 60's, and actually had no idea they would have turned out as successful as they had. Imagine, before TOMMY THE WHO were looked upon as just another average pop group with their earlier hits such as MY GENERATION, I CAN SEE FOR MILES, HAPPY JACK, SUBSTITUTE and others. And of course we can't forget about WHO'S NEXT and QUADROPHENIA.
To this day Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey don't cease to inspire me. Amazing. I won't die happily if I never get to see at least half of the best band of the world playing live.
This is what I loved about London's closing and especially Vancouver's closing ceremonies....it felt like a cool party!!! Formality was all done once the flame went out and it was just time to have good fun
Nobody will believe me when I submit this, but my grandpa actually arrested keith moon in 1975 for being drunk and disorderly in Ayrshire, Scotland although he could have been on the beat in glasgow at the time. my grandpa sadly passed away in march 2015.
So that's just Live Aid, Live 8, The Super Bowl, and The Olympic Closing Ceremony for The Who then.. not much more unless they are the first group to play on Mars.
Man, you British have created countless legendary bands: The Who Led Zeppelin The Animals The Yardbirds The Kinks The Beatles Cream Rolling Stones Respect from New Zealand, also, my favourite band is The Who, and I'm 16, I also like Led Zepp too, but not as much as the legendary Who...... JB and other modern music are nowhere near as talented/great/enduring/powerful/raw as real music....... It would've been cool, if they played Who Are You, or Won't Get Fooled Again, or even A Quick One, as well as My Generation........ Long Like The Who......................................
I liked London Olympics opening ceremony; everything was so well dramatized in an imaginative way! ( I'm from Athens. Obviously I also liked Athens 2004 for different reasons)
He played at the opening ceremony rather than this show which is the closing ceremony. As for him not being on this channel McCartney's first song had major sound issues and though they only lasted a few seconds they make the broadcast version unsuitable for uploading here.
It would be so English if someone, possibly Queen would come up to that flame with a little cup of tea and spill it over it and the fire would just go out
Zac has always said that Keith, who was a great friend of his father's, was an inspiration to him from when Zac was a small boy (not unsurprisingly, Ringo, who knows perfectly well what a tough business music is, was not actually a big fan of Zac following in his footsteps although he's very proud of him). The Concert for NYC documentary shows Paul & Stella McCartney proudly tell former US Pres. Bill Clinton backstage that it's Ringo's firstborn drumming with The Who.
Pink Floyd with "Comfortably Numb" as in Pulse..or David Bowie with "Heroes" (with some of the text changed). or Led Zeppelin with "Stairway to Heaven" (Better than Kate Bush's "Running up that Hill") would have been good.
+Facundo carpceerodos Well, the part with the (Berlin) Wall with shooting guards would not be appropriate I think. "Comfortably numb" would be for the dopers
Gotta say, when I watched this live, after hearing the melody of Baba o'Reily I think it was in the intro sequence, I was like "The Who's GOT To play this!" I went through the entire closing ceremony, definitely pleased with the whole lineup, but I was still sitting there, waiting for them to come on... And when the Flame died, by heart sank a little.. I thought They weren't gonna show after all... And then that Beautiful strat Roared.... I bloody jumped out of my seat out of excitement! (MR Obvious Alert: The Who is one my absolute favorite bands.) IT was the perfect conclusion to the whole Olympics.
You can only imagine the solo moon and john would of put on for this would of been insanity nevertheless was a great performance the who have now officially done everything there's is to do Closed the Olympics, played at Super Bowl halftime show, sold out almost every arena and sold millions and millions of records
Yes, they are clearly older and Pete is greyer but Roger and Pete have held up remarkably well, especially Pete, considering all he's been through. Roger still has, as much as it pains a Beatlemaniac like me to admit this, the best true rock and roll voice EVER.
love zaks bass drums the coulor of the Brazilian flag green and yellow what a touch . they don't miss a thing this band and anyone who knocks Roger on about his voice he's nearly 70 most people can't sing like yhat in a life time live the who
crazedvikingfan28 Man, if it was still, just the four of them, everyone would be screaming and jumping up and down, now with the drums mic,ed, Keith was thunderous, even without a mic'ed drumkit, I reckon he would've blown the power circuitry if he was in this, and John, I play bass because of him, and I play drums because of Keith....... With his dark humor, he would've thundered through the songs, in fact, I reckon in this, if it was the four of them, all of them including John, would smash their instruments lol, Or aren't they allowed (Hwww it's twoo emature), they would've done it anyway lol......
+Shaun Templey Did you see the vid. in the States where Keith actually blew up his drums by putting twice the amount of fireworks explosive in? That's why Pete is deaf in one ear. Also, I saw a clip when Keith came staggering on stage, determined to play his drums, & passed out, after downing horse tranquillisers with brandy. So a guy in the audience, got to play with The Who!!! Legend.
I love how at the end the commentator is saying that "I enjoyed the Olympics in your country in 2000 but for me this is very special...and I think it has been...quite wonderful". It seems like he thinks the London Olympics were better than Sydney but he's too polite to say that, so he just says "quite wonderful". Little bit of British humility. Love it. As an Australian, I thought Sydney was pretty great, but London was maybe even better. Well done, Britain.
Watched the ceremony again last night, just amazing, made u proud to be British! Yanks didnt show the closing ceremony I heard! Same for the fans of these bands!
THIS PERFORMANCE WAS PRE RECORDED , AT 7.58 WHAT YOU HEAR IS A SOLO GUITAR USING ARM BAR FOR A COUPLES NOTES , BUT WHAT YOU SEE IS PETE NOT USING AND DOING MIMICS ONLY.
Just searched this out, because he mentions it in his book ' Thanks a lot Mr Kibblewhite ' The book is an entertaining and amusing easy to read run thru of a very ' normal ' sounding rock star.
The song is "See Me, Feel Me", but if you listen to the version on the album Tommy, then it is instead incorporated into the final track "We're Not Gonna Take it" (not to be mistaken as the Twisted Sister song) instead of being a separate song.
The opening and closing ceremonies of London 2012 could just have been two simple gigs featuring only the best British music artists and they would have still been the greatest opening and closing ceremonies of all time.

What about queen huh
Setlist:
5:30 Baba O'Riley
8:12 See Me, Feel Me
9:04 Listening To You
10:51 My Generation
Listening to you is part of the See Me, Feel Me song
It's a shame Keith Moon wasn't around for that finale. The man did love his fireworks.
Don't forget Entwistle
John Entwistle as well :(
I believe The Who's performance of see me feel me at Woodstock was the greatest live performance by any band in rock history
Queens performance at the Band aid concert in london was also one i will always remember.
At least they have Ringo's son instead. Quite fitting. :)
I've never been prouder of The Who. They are a true expression of UK culture, without jingoism, just loud passionate and joyful.
The Who start playing at 5:28
Dude, you're the real MVP.
GJ Man!!
thank u
Legend. Thanks for that
Keith would have loved this. He probably would have blew something up haha

I was with you until you mentioned Dragonforce and it all went downhill from there.

He's also a great actor! I remember him in the Highlander series as the charming immortal Hugh Fitzcairn!
Johannes Wiberg There's something quite beautiful hearing him do the middle section ("Don't cry...") which is uncommon? I wonder why this was an exception? Olympics Ceremony running low on mics?! Haha
He's also a lovely man if you meet him. I was lucky enough to last year. I will never forget it. He was such a sweetheart- and he hugged me!
@@burnsybaby1987 Ye, perhaps Pete wasn't feeling it? Maybe he had a case of diminutive equine: a little horse (hoarse). Dad jokes! I love em!
Britain Has Many Legendary Bands and Soloist Music Artist's - To-date.
We Are Proud To Be British 🇬🇧. 👑
Agreed. In New Jersey we have Sinatra , Bruce, Bon Jovi and Whitney as well as Count Basie and Dionne Warwick.
Queen, Bowie, Genesis and more. Britain's bands rock the world. Always have, always will. V

Best ending of the Olympic Games ever!
Sax
Best Olympics Ever!!
These guys gigged the original Woodstock. Let that sink in.
The only band to have played all the great music festivals.
Timeless Group
The best opening and closing ceremony of Olympic games history.
The best games ever
I agree
Let's be honest... The best way for the ceremony to close would be with the Monty Python foot standing on the flame.
ahahahahaahahaaaa
+Innocuoustroll Bloody classic!!!
Yes
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Brilliant
The best OLIMPIC GAMES of britain ROCK ..EVER !! THE WHO NUMBER ONE for the perfect Closing!!!
Listening To You is the best song to close a ceremony, so passionate
Man, I love coming back to this because it's so great, but:
This version of "See me, feel me" is so touching and electric, it really stands out.
why you have such legendary bands Britain ?
+David Eason Well its 1 reason .. BRITAIN IS GREAT AT LOADS OF STUFF INCLUDING MUSIC .. SO THATS WHY WE ARE GREAT BRITAIN !!!!
+David Eason. The Brits are the world's great entertainers. Whether it's writers, actors or musicians the British seem to do it best.
+David Eason its the only good thing we have left maten these bands are the dogs bolox
+David Eason Because we are British.
+David Eason but seriously it's because the Americans invented the Blues then forgot about and came along Rock n Roll and the Brits put a bit of blues back in Rock N Roll with and introspective twist on it.
Baba O'Riley gives you goosebumps every time, and you still don't know why this time.
Wow Roger still sounds amazing after all these years...
I was 14 then. I will never ever forget the 2012 olympics, it will treasured in my chest of memories.
And of course we can't forget about WHO'S NEXT and QUADROPHENIA.
The best opening/closing ceremony for any olympics
You can't get any better than this... Absolutely epic!!
I love how Roger sings Pete's line in Baba O'Riley.
Only rock and roll band in the WORLD that could pull the closing song off like that with all the fireworks....
THE WHO.
Pete Townshend is awesome
He is a killer
Still waiting for that book though eh?
That is the longest CSI has taken to open.
contact1araya 💀💀😂
Lol xD
Amazing performance. Also Ringo Starr's son at the drums!
sadly two key members of the who are gone. John Entwistle and Kieth Moon. Imagine if they were there too
The Who broooo this guys voice is still epic af!
Nobody will believe me when I submit this, but my grandpa actually arrested keith moon in 1975 for being drunk and disorderly in Ayrshire, Scotland although he could have been on the beat in glasgow at the time. my grandpa sadly passed away in march 2015.
+Samodus chronicals sorry for your loss. A story to be told for generations long.
Garry Barlow
You're right, I don't believe you.
Keith Moon was drunk and disorderly?!? A likely story...
Anyone can believe Mooney being arrested
Samodus, your grand papa sounds like he was a decent copper, unfortunately not like the useless rubbish we have to put up with these days.
Takes me back to 2005 when I saw them in concert, Rodger still has the chops and Pete with those moves
The Who one of the best shows in Olimpics London 2012.😊
Imagine still having it after so long just legendary
If Keith Moon was around I have a feeling he’d create fireworks of his own
Best finish to a Closing Ceremony. Darcey Bussell and The Who!
Zak is outstanding when he plays the drums. He is really talented, like his father. :D ;)
5:50 Roger Daltrey being too early with the mic bump :D
The whole closing cero, was a sound nightmare, to gather, yet the end master was the stage presence of the WHO. stunned all of us.
Great Performance! Especially Townshends guitar solo at the end of Baba O'riley.
Shame I was too young to appreciate this. Brilliant performance
So that's just Live Aid, Live 8, The Super Bowl, and The Olympic Closing Ceremony for The Who then.. not much more unless they are the first group to play on Mars.
Woodstock...
Of all the events The Who is in it, you've literally forgot Woodstock, the most important of it all
Never going to Mars bc Mars is a light, and non material, and going there ever, is a total hoax duuuh.
Woodstock? Isle of White 1969? Monterey 1968 where Hendrix was scared to go on after them? Stealing the show at the 2001 The Concert for New York?
The Who is the very definition of Rock and Roll. Every time I watch this I get overwhelmed with excitement and good feeling
Man, you British have created countless legendary bands:
The Who
Led Zeppelin
The Animals
The Yardbirds
The Kinks
The Beatles

MrFluff101 Whoops, sorry mate..... Thank Ya for adding Queen in.....
Shaun Templey Not to sound negative but the Animals are a one song band and that song isn't even theirs. The rest of the bands are top notch.
Shaun Templey Have you heard of Pink Floyd?
Mvern vern Yip, Ive heard of them, they're alright, but I'm not a fan of them...........
Very beautiful, spectacular, I enjoyed the recording!
fabulous..nothing beats Brit bands...and nothing beats the sheer bloody magnificence of the Who
when they transitioned into the “see me feel me...” melody from tommy i started crying not gonna lie
I liked London Olympics opening ceremony; everything was so well dramatized in an imaginative way! ( I'm from Athens. Obviously I also liked Athens 2004 for different reasons)
I can only begin to imagine what sort of surprises Keith Moon would have had for us had he still been alive!
Roger's voice is incredible here
Beat that old fart McCartney into the ground, Lost his voice, time to quit
GTFO
its lip synced.. I'm so disappointed... look at 9:18
omg, and they start playing the track at 13:24
Axel Döös Billy Nicholls & Simon Townshend keep singing
Am I the only one who wonders where is Paul McCartney's performance on the same night? I mean, the official upload of it.
He played at the opening ceremony rather than this show which is the closing ceremony. As for him not being on this channel McCartney's first song had major sound issues and though they only lasted a few seconds they make the broadcast version unsuitable for uploading here.

why do you want To change Heroes 's text?
for sure, but those songs r clearly not the Olympic vibe.

I don't know why but I am glad to see Pete playing so excitedly.
Magistral! ótimo encerramento, e ainda com o The Who, enquanto aq no Brasil... huehuehue.
I have to admit, the Who were amazing. The moment our hear that guitar, you just know.
Is it Ringo's son playing drums?
Yes, zak starkey. Drummer for the who after moon and did a bit in oasis aswell.
