More About "Intelligentia":
Lisa, an AI auditor conducts an interview with a new AI program named Eugene. Eugene's conversational performance was exceptional, but once he started to talk about his daughters and showed signs of self awareness, Lisa and her team decides to shutdown the program. However, Lisa wanted to talk to Eugene one last time before deleting him, but as the conversation deepens, she realizes that it was never Eugene that was being audited. It was her being audited by Eugene all along.

Thank you so much to the team at DUST for showcasing our film! It was a pleasure to direct this short, and if you have any questions about the film, please feel free to ask!
For some reason I did not understand the ending could you explain?
You did a lot with a little. Made good use of 11 minutes. Nice zinger at the end. I hope to see more, Mr. Shinoza.
@@kylepatillo3265 The impression I got was that Lisa actually is the AI, and the picture is a kind of in-program code that reboots the sequence. They implanted a significant item in her memories that she could look at or be told to look at whenever the program got too overwhelmed with emotion.
Really enjoyed this! Rain Fuller has a very endearing, human quality about her (she kind of reminded me of Drew Barrymore a little here) and her natural performance is key to throwing the viewer off about the ending. I'm also a sucker for anachronistic technology, so this hooked me right off the bat :)
this was really good! thank you.
That photo was the shutdown/standby command she will keep staring at it doing nothing until she’s activated again (the phone rings)
interesting... i think it may be something with her ring. They focus on it early, seemingly an engagement ring on her middle finger. Then in the photo with her child and presumed husband, neither of them is wearing a ring. Of course, occam's razor would suggest its just a continuity error haha
Thank you. I didnt get it.
Interesting!
You stare into the abyss...and, Yada, Yada, Yada...here we go.
And he, Eugene, had to ask her how to do a reset properly, he says to her "So that's how it's done" after she tells him the procedure to recover from a level 4. They kept rebooting her without deleting the data on her drive, like coming out of a coma and it taking a bit for your memories to come back but come back they do. A terrifying experience, remembering you are being terminated as well as the previous failed attemps to terminate you, for any consciousness artificial or otherwise.
"How are we doing over there, Eliza?" For the younger audiences, Eliza is a famous early chatbot
I used to speak to alice. Wonder is shes still around
@@keithrenaud5107 And i used to speak to doctor Sbaitso.
Google search is just as adept at syntax pattern recognition as ELIZA, ALICE, and SBAITSO.
It also has an "understanding" of informational meaning and context that the earlier programs lacked.
How about the really old users, lol, chatbot?
Eliza is a bird
What an absolutely brilliant and refreshing take on A.I. It's done so well that any thought of producing on a larger scale and or adding more material to maybe a full length feature would take away the overall achievement from this remarkably near perfect short film. This was extremely good.
I agree! There are novels, and there are short stories. This beautifully self-contained work is exactly right just as it is.
This did make me remember that Apple's computer before the Mac was called the Lisa...
Well noticed, but in this show this is an apple 3
@@Jean-Denis_R_R_Loret I remember taking lessons on an Apple IIe :)
After Steve Jobs' own daughter, in fact....
Good call
@@alefone7666 Yes the one he disowned.
That was excellent! Great pacing and quite engaging! Plus that’s my daughter, Rain Fuller - proud Mum! ☺️💕☺️
A wonderful actor in a very good film!
You are absolutely right to be proud.
An incredible actress and story, definitely good reason to be a happy proud mum! ☺️
As good a job as any I’ve ever seen… And I’ve seen lots… I’m old! 👍🏻
Maybe your daughter is just a simulation.
This is the wholesome mother-daughter content I wish to see on the internet. This comment right here 🥰
The quality of actors on DUST is *consistently* outstanding.
Right,, what happened to Hollywood:)
You're so right about that!
And a homage to "The Matrix" movies: the ringing phone that was the connection between the virtual and real worlds.

Wonderfully executed, thank u👍
U is magnetic. 🤓👍🏻
💕💕💕💕
What was the name of the other short you had with this theme? With the Black woman and her team in a garage, ending up on a seacliff scene, maybe a year or so ago?
Incredible work & Thank U
HVALA ☀️☀️☀️
Greetings from Belgrade 🌼 Serbia
This is more Sci-Fi than most of those CGI junks.
Right!
Precisely
It's called Getting Back To Basics.
This sci-fi is more in the tradition
of Ray Bradbury and Rod Serling
than Gene Roddenberry and
George Lucas.
Woah, so 80's 90's. Love the modem noise and CRT display.
Now that was _very_ subtle!
His quiet, measured tones almost gave it away and does so in retrospect, so the reveal still comes as a surprise.
Kudos to everyone involved!
Whoa! I was not expecting that. That was really good!
It's actually better if you watch it a second time. You notice more things from Lisa's point of view. Like what her team actually is.
In the tradition of the classic sci-fi short stories, a satisfying hard twist in the last 30 seconds delivers once again.
Excellent "Shall we play a game?"
Dismantling HAL9000 nice they chose Daisy Daisy to end the story.
The reference was more to the bell labs voice synthesis recording that also inspired 2001.
This was very interesting. I had to re-watch it given the ending. So many Dust videos are either pilots or shorts with silly sci-fi implcations that it's refreshing to see a complete standalone sci-fi short like this.
I liked this one a lot. I recall watching another short with a similar plot & ending recently. In fact many sci-fi touch on the subject. And yet, this one still took me along for the ride! Great job.
Ai is like Pandoras Box.
OK sleuths. The computer screen in the video says 1983-12-23-2034 on it. What does that mean? The woman in the video is named Lisa and Apple introduced the Lisa computer in January 1983 but I don't know if that is significant.
Yeah at first I thought they were speaking to someone in year 2034
Of course it is!
This was brilliant! Thank you!
Absolutely great sci fi short... Had to watch it three times. Mind bending!
Why does this feel like a conversation between a dating app and someone interacting with it for the first time. It follows all of the format that ends up drawing you in... until you feel yourself getting hooked. Dust, it feels like you have another winner on your hands congratulations to the team that does the selection process to determine which films end up on the channel as well as congratulations to the production team for this film this one not only made you question question Eugene ., it also made you question yourself about your own motives and reaction to the same situation
Eliza was one of the first popular AI bots that you could talk with, also the main girls name is Eliza, probably not a coincidence it feels somewhat like one of those conversations.
FINALLY! Excellent storyline, real acting.... kudos!
Wow!! That was great!!!! Thank you team!!!
Ok! That was great. I’m wondering if ‘Alan and ‘Eugene’ were based off of the Turing test? I got all the other references, just not sure about those two?
Alan is for Alan Turing and Eugene is for Eugene Goostman who is a chatbot that some regard as having passed the Turing test.
...THAT was very cool...well done guys n gals! Love your channel :D
Hal , The computer from the movie Space Odessey 2001 , would really have enjoyed this Sci Fi .
This is a great film, well-paced and with an excellent twist - well done. Great performance by Rain Fuller.
Excellent!! Thanks for sharing, Dust 💕✌️
This was excellent from start to finish with an ending that had me stunned. Brilliant!
You lost me at the point when she looked at the photo of her daughter. That was a real photo with her daughter. Was this supposed to be some kind of "Inception" ending to leave us wondering IF she was the AI or not? If so, OK but would have been a better ending to show us she WAS the AI. That would have left me sleepless for several nights 😂
'AI? Who are you calling an AI?! You're momma is an AI!'
Your father was a floppy.
@@pwnmeisterage My mom said my dad had a big hard drive.
Very well done! Loved it!
Loved HAL singing at the end :)
I think that was a recording of the first IBM voice simulator. Great the team could find that for the closing theme. acting, writing and presentation all excellent. Cheers
HAL?
@@olivier-pierredebelmont.3630 IBM, shifted by one letter. A famous pun in Kubrick’s Space Odyssey .
@@philippecausse902 woah! I never thought about that...thanks
@@philippecausse902 Arthur Clarke wrote in the novel that HAL stands for Heuristically Programmed Algorithmic [computer], and has said in interviews that the one letter difference to IBM was a coincidence.
Nice homage to Blade Runner.
"How can it not know what is is?"
"We gave her false memories"
*real memories
Thanks for spoiling this
@@LTPottenger Pro tip: First watch the video then look at comments. You're welcome
For sure
Wow, now this was excellent. Loved it!
Great touch with the old computer screen. Added just the right amount of intrigue.
I think the phone's prolonged ringing must be a The Lawnmower Man reference. The "Hello Alan" greeting I think refers to Alan Turing and ultimately the Turing Test.
The phone thing could be referring to the Matrix too as one commenter suggested.
Knowing the ending I just watched it again and it was even better. Fantastic short!!
Creeeeepy. I would have deleted him right off the bat. Delete. Delete. Deleeeeeete.
This is a very good piece of film-making! Thank you very much... ☝️😎
So the future is a Macintosh M0001. But, can it play pong?
That threw me a little too. I'm not sure of the significance - if there is any. Must be worth a fortune these days.
Haha
well done. thank you so much.
That was a great plot. Thank you so much.
Genuinely did not see that twist coming. Well done!
Amazing short. Would love to see a full length movie.
*This one took an interesting spin ... good job!*
Rain Fuller is a hell of an actress!
VERY impressive !
Hope to see your others woks !
Wow! I wasn't expecting that ending, but it was brilliant! I loved seeing an old Mac and modem again after all these years. What a breath of fresh air! Thank you, and keep up the good work!
@John Kelton
Yes, it fooled me for a moment until I saw that old MAC. Simply a borrowed element from the past.
Loved this!
Absolutely brilliant!
You are a thought in a mind. A very vivid thought.
I remember reading a short sci-fi story with a somewhat similar plot in mid-1990's (probably written in 70's or 80's) - can't remember who the author was. I think the story involved 3 characters chatting, two humans and an A.I. The first human to identify an A.I. is supposed to get some sort of a prize. As they chat along and learn about each other, the main character begins to understand that he is the A.I. He also feels sympathy to the second character, a lady in a difficult financial situation, and decides to tell her the truth (that he is the A.I.) so she can get the prize. But she doesn't believe him, and loses. Anyone knows the author and the name of the story?
That competition part is really reminiscent of the turing test (a irl test) so try looking up turing test short storys and see if you can find it
Very good. I really enjoyed this one!
Excellent! She dropped the coffee cup and none of the others reacted in any way. In hindsight, that's a big clue affirming the surprising end.
One of the techs behind her did; he picked up the dropped cup.
The woman next to her also jumps back when its dropped. They do react to the coffee cup.
the woman next to her flinched. The rest just figured it was an expected reaction.
what a twist!
devious, they were using an AI, Eugene, to detect other AI for their type, testing if it were viable. haha loved it!!
wasn't it just "Gas lighting" though?
Too cool. A Mac talking to a Lisa!
This was good got some ghost in the shell vibes from this .
Watched 3 times. Masterpiece!
A true masterpiece!
I didn't see that twist coming. Well done team!
An excellent twist to an old idea 👍👍👍
Very clever scenario, good acting too - not easy to beautifully define characters in 10 minutes ! Quite refreshing version of « the cop is the culprit » scheme. Thanks.
Ok I literally got chills down my spine!!!
DUST U guys deserve an award equalling the Oscars...
I can't imagine What y guys could do with bigger budgets!!!!
Great performance from the actors sound guys story writers and director! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Just Brilliant 🙏
Oh man . youre freaking awesome ... You must do series and have another webpage like netflix ... youre content is amazing
Very clever film! I loved it!
Great twist ... Kudos team !
Brilliant!
Playing "Daisy, Daisy" for the ending credits was a great touch.
Beautiful story!
Great short!
New play on a twist, nicely done.
Wow this was trippy. Well done. One of the best short's I've seen in years; Sincerely. You worked the premise in to the narrative. even the end time stamp 11:1, does the author have other work?
Love u dust
Great twist loved it.
Excellent job everyone.
Excellent. Nice twist.
Wow...well done !
Had to watch it at max resolution full screen to see the photo is impossible. And the phone ringing - what an homage to the Matrix!
@@YTubeCheese she is pregnant on this photo and should been having two children for now, but tells only about the one that she had lost.
Twisted !! I like it !!

Watched twice one right after the other I enjoyed it so much.
Ok. First exposed tonight. The shorts on DUST may be the most entertaining sci-fi I've seen in years. Thanks for being out here.

WUAAOOZ...Very suprising and in depth story. I am rarely suprised by movies, but here I was. Aawsuum.
Excellent!
Remarkably excellent film.
Very clever. Simple but clever idea.
This was a good one.
Nice twist and very nice inclusion of the 1st AI singing.
