Holycrap. Goosebumps and I'm not crying you're crying. Now THAT's storytelling! Great cinematography, colour, atmosphere... I was entranced. And what a fantastic ending! Not every story is for everyone, but even though it's adapted, seriously another short that has raised the bar on DUST.
This has to be one of the most tragic and beneficial love stories of World War 2. War is filled with death and destruction. EPICAC was able to assist in the allied victory of WW 2 and a love story for the ages. Finally this file has been declassified. + Durasaxon + ✝️ I'm finally glad they came clean!
I'm not adding applause to your work here as i can't compete with all the comments doing more than i could. I've now seen 30 or so and come to the conclusion that you're all downright dangerous mental.....or highly motivated and the FKN BEST !
Well, this one sure took me along for the emotional ride. Also, there were no intruding sound effects or music, the lighting was moody but not near dark like many movies featured here. It was a beautifully balanced piece. If I'd paid to watch this at a cinema, I would have left very pleased. Big 👍
I knew this seemed familiar. It was just so beautiful and emotionally deep. To see it come come to life in this way. Thank you for all your work in bringing this story to us.
SO incredibly touching. Love gained, Love lost, Tragedy, Bittersweet.. Oh wow.. To want something so badly and knowing that It will always be out of grasp connected with me on so many levels.. :( This touched me very deeply , especially "Im going to short circuit myself out of your lives" Bravo! I felt so drawn into the story and excellent narration! MY best to all those involved in its production. I cant wait to see more from the director and creative crew. *God Bless*
I keep seeing all the different short films with "winner of such and such award" in the title or across the picture. This one should be up for an award. Well done!
One of the finest and moving piece of film making I have seen in some time. while I am aware of a lot of the works of kurt Vonnagut, I have never read the story this film was based around , pure Genius for the film makers to pick this one. Magnificent....thank you
It's a pretty common trope in tragedies for a character to realize that they were factually and/or morally wrong about something, only for it to be too late to do anything about it
@@seriousbusiness47 I would have to agree with That1Guy. It's not so much that the main character realized he was wrong. There was no indication of regret. Just admiration. And admiring self-sacrifice in the face of being exploited just doesn't seem good.
They say you shouldn't speak ill of the dead, but one of my childhood bullies died recently. And this brute bullied me right up until the end. Before he died, I couldn't say anything bad about him or my face got punched. I now finally can say the truth about him, how much of a jerk he was, but now I'm supposed to be quiet??
This is really nicely done. Every frame was well thought out. I liked the pulse of the light. It shows the enthusiasm of both the man and the machine. Bravo!
It's not possible to say anything else than the others did before. I can it repeat only. However, that would sound like copied. But here is nothing copied. Its unique. A unique masterpiece!
it’s been done many times, but this has a real passion. the ”machine” really understands, is an emotional being, and human in a beautiful, sensitive way - so much more so than other stories, it is beautifully told and produced. i love the ‘40’s feel of the set. and Darling is so ‘40’s (and ‘50’s). he didn’t quite get how to say it though. interesting choice for Pat. poor machine {:| 🥀
you know when you're in primary school and teacher love to give essay assignment that titled 'i am a pen', 'i am a car' etc.? i'm getting that vibe from that supercomputer's pov.

All she wanted was good communication which was found with the machine....The man could not find the heart felt word for her because he did not really get to KNOW her before WANTING her

It’s so important to have channels like yours supporting independent filmmakers and artists. Thank you for a great job spreading the seeds ….
Superb.
Why do you not allow us to view the closing credits? You always shrink and speed it up.
This belongs in the category of "Masterpiece."
I totally agree.
Agreed
The writing and narration were absolutely beautiful on this piece. Well done DUST.
Yup
i agree. this was moving... it hurt. it uplifted. it was a wonderful paradoxical piece.

Wow thanks you so much!! This comment made my day (:
Thank you! This really means a lot to us
Yah I'm totally crying, so amazing
You know a production is effective when the writing and directing can make you feel bad for machine. Well done!
Can we give a shoutout to the amazing score on this film? Sounds straight out of a hollywood film!
thank you so much!

Wonderful. And thanks so much for the homage to Vonnegut.
I believe Vonnegut would have genuinely enjoyed this touching production, which was true to his work.
Thats the greatest compliment you could give us. Thank you!
Interesting that when Epicac works his most intensely, his only response is "Oh." Amazing.
Absolutely beautiful, moving, thank you very much.
Poor tin man. Everyone knows that hearts will never be practical until they can be made unbreakable.
This is one of my favorite short stories. I was so happy to wake up and see this. Beautiful film, watching again. ❤️
Thanks Anna!!
We appreciate it Anna! Glad you liked it
It's so beautiful.
The respect I have for “Machines” has changed forever, such an emotional ending. Well done dust ❤️
It was not DUST, making that masterpiece. However, they have a good sense for the best of the best!
@@jonathanporter5223 sorry I should have said “ Great find Dust” but as MrRegnaf stated The Dust Channel really knows what we like 👍🏼

Save this for when you put a series together, “ The Best of Dust “. Truly it is a masterpiece.
Superb! Outstanding! Easily one of the best I've watched. I'm going to save this one and watch it again when I need inspiration.
What a treasure you've given us in this little film. Beautifully crafted. Thank you!
One word... : magnificent...!!!...
This is magnificent. So simple and yet so powerful. I can unreservedly call it a masterpiece.
Love love love
Seems to have a very strong 'Cyrano De Bergerac' theme.
Definitely! I'm sure that was one of Vonneguts main inspirations for the story, along with the invention of ENIAC
"Is it a big noze ? No, it is a big bulb ! "
Exactly

Brought tears to my eyes. Such a heart wrenching ending.
A beautiful story of love and friendship this is poetry of love in itself.

Magnificent! One of the best that DUST has ever exhibited. It raises interesting questions about many aspects.

Worth watching again...and again. Well done.
This was the best one on DUST so far. The entire story did not feel rushed, and it had a Great ending! Great Story!
Luv the intro with narration & old footage, that line "like a stenographer smoking hashish" luv that. So sad at the end, enjoyable film.
My new favorite!! Fantastic!!
This makes you wonder if " the ghost in the machine " concept is real., that's how well this was written. Dust you are back in the game!!
Thank you! This is now my favorite Dust film of 2021. I’d love to see more work like this from the filmmakers.
Amazing bit of filmmaking. Superb.
Dang. That hit me in my feels.
Well done, well done. This one is one of the best.
This story was ripped right out of a book I read as a child.
It is indeed based on Vonnegut.
A work of total genius and piercing beauty, bravo to the makers.
Fantastic.
*Man:* uses and mistreats Machine

WOW!
You have my full respect taken on this short story from Kurt Vonnegut.
Thank you! We were honored to adapt Kurt’s words to the screen!
Haha thank you Thorsten, it definitely wasn't easy! We were still film students when we made this one.
Brilliant!

My bully was not burned at the stake, therefore his death was not painful enough. But I can only say good things about him?????
masterpiece.
Excellent!
just... wow... amazing story
Keeping with the Latin theme: De gusitbus non est disputandam (there's no use arguing about taste). I found it worthwhile. Your mileage may vary.
Or rather, regarding taste, there is no dispute!

Holy Sh** man, you made my brain flip and question sentience.. I love it
I admit, I was half expecting the question, "How can the net amount of entropy of the universe be massively decreased?"
Some questions better aren‘t answered
Reminds me of an Asimov story in which the answer was "Let there be light!"
@@patrickdurham8393 - That's exactly the reference: the short story is titled, "The Last Question."
Beautiful and heartbreaking 💔❤️

How bittersweet, how moving, how tender this was 💙

I remember in 6th grade, crying 😢 over this sad story. Still .....
It got to us as well
I have tried to follow this motto from the time I read the story as a young human, a LONG time ago. Huh, Vonnegut.
Masterpiece
holy moly this was brilliant
This was epic, professional in every sense of the word. This truly set the benchmark high and one to measure all others by.
I did NOT see that coming. This was done so very well. Thanks for the work!
I love the retrofuturistic style of this film
