More About "ROAM: Rider Of Another Mortal":
In an underground hidden lair, FIAR, a mid-20s street kid, works on hacked ROAM technology. He's interrupted by an old woman seeking help. she claims that she's an 18 year old kid, and that someone stole her body, and left her in this old shell. Feeling bad for the kid, Fiar lets her in, and reveals that he has a device that might help them track down her original body, and if they can get it back, he might be able to put her back inside of it. He hooks her into his device, which allows him to scan the ROAM Mainframe for her body, but as he does, he realizes that it's a trap, ROAM operatives are flooding the tunnels outside his secret lair, and the woman that he let in, is secretly working for them. As ROAM Agents bang down the door, Fiar disarms the agent, sets a bomb, and escapes through a secret tunnel. ROAM agents give chase, and corner Fiar. But they do not realize that he has Body Hack technology, an enhancement which allows him to tap into his own bodies natural resources at will (adrenaline, dopamine, norepinephrine, etc...) and juice up on them, giving himself temporary superhuman abilities. He escapes capture, but is shot and mortally wounded in the process. With only minutes left to live, he makes his way to an upscale penthouse apartment, where there is a young woman handcuffed to a chair beside a strange device. As he dies, he hooks them both into the device, turns it on, and transfers his consciousness into the body of the young woman. We realize that Fiar has really been this young woman all along. Not wanting to risk damage to her own body, and now that she has been marked as a terrorist by ROAM, she finds unscrupulous people that have stolen bodies through ROAM, and uses their bodies instead. With ROAM showing no sign of slowing down their operation, she has much work left to do if she hopes to destroy their operation. But for now, it's good to be home, back in her own body.

So excited for ROAM to launch on my favorite sci-fi channel DUST!!!! I really hope everyone enjoys watching it as much as we loved making it. Would love to hear your thoughts and comments!
Genius bit of storytelling and filmmaking. Nice couple of twists that left me guessing what the reality was right to the end.
Well done to all the crew and cast.
Is there more to come? Is there any way to get involved?
Best thing I've seen on Dust for a while.
@@islandsedition Thanks so much for the positive feedback! We worked hard to make this happen. We have a pilot script for a series and a full pitch for a feature, and we just need the financing to move forward. If you know anybody with deep pockets... 😀 Would also help to spread the word on SM and get as many peeps to watch and comment as possible.
very beautiful and promising. would like to see more
@@abusoumaya8469 thanks for tuning in and for the positive feedback. We'd like to make more!!!!! 😀
Absolutely brilliant !, great concept, and so well done, I hope your proud of yourself, you should be.
By far the best of the DUST series I’ve seen so far. Tight story-driven narrative, and a lead we actually care about, hard to achieve in such a short timescale.
Thanks so much Kevin for tuning in, watching, and your positive feedback! We spent a lot of time and energy on this, with very little capital, and it makes it all worthwhile when people enjoy it.
@@jonathanporter5223 Thanks! Really appreciate it! Who knows... maybe we can get DUST to fund a sequel? 😀
Indeed!
@@jonathanporter5223 yea, thank you for the kind words and sentiments. We were blessed to work with some of the best in the industry, and our VFX team, assembled from various parts of the globe, all pipelining into Rocket Panda Post in Burbank, over the course of 2 years, are the real stars IMO.
very much agree with you kevin, this concept certainly has legs. Hope they get the funding to make this into a full movie!
Felt like a whole movie, so fast-paced and packed full of things, it did feel much more like 90 then 17 minutes - wow!
We do have a 90 minute version we'd love to shoot! Thanks for the feedback!
@@jasonbender2459 I love your enthusiasm and positivity, and thank you for your interest and comment. As I mentioned prior, David and I initially launched a successful Kickstarter campaign in 2018 to get us to set and in to post. Personally, I'd love to continue making ROAM content the traditional way, through the "Hollywood System", if there really is such a thing. Who knows, maybe we'll find ourselves in a similar position, and chose to revisit all funding options. Let's put a pin in it, and we'll keep you in mind. As one mentioned earlier... All roads lead to ROAM...
This could rival Altered Carbon if it does not copy the snake.
@@davidfujung when will it be out?
Oh and where can I watch it?
I like the trailer , and I’m looking forward to seeing the feature !
This needs to be made into a bigger story. Elaborate, action, goal oriented with the possibility of two sequels.
I love it! Thanks for the comment. Spread the word. We have a feature script and a pilot episode ready to shoot!
@@davidfujung hmmm
@@davidfujung would definitely make a great movie
@@davidfujung do it, can't wait!
This kind of has been done before as a series. It's called "Dollhouse". Evil corporation, body switching, body snatching, etc. It starts off as a problem of the week style show, but it takes off after a few episodes. It ran for two seasons. The season finales are epic. Oh, and last time I checked it is available on DVD and Hulu.
Making Roam a nonprofit was a good twist. (Also enjoyed the pun: all roads lead to Rome/Roam. Nice.)
You could almost say it's foreshadowing.
Not a lot of people would have caught that ... nice
ROAM, on the surface stands for Rehabilitation of Abandoned Minors, but underneath the surface it's an acronym for Rider of Another Mortal. To me, the title, and what it stands for, is one of the best things to come out of David's insanely creative mind. Double entendres are perfect vehicles for storylines, and he hit the nail on the head hard with this one.
DAVID BOWIE'S - FAME
Now THAT is some sci-fi that should get to feature length!
Thanks for the words of encouragement and positivity!
Agree!
Thank you for tuning in! We had a rad time making ROAM, and we're stoked to have DUST as a partner. Please share your thoughts, I love reading all of the comments and I'll do my best to answer all of them. Laissez les bons temps rouler!
How long does it take to make this beautiful short?
@@jerogiman WAAAAAAYYY too long! We had very little financing, so post took over 2 years. but we shot the footage in five or six days.
I have watched this several times now, needs to be a 2 hour feature film. Followed by easily converted to 40 min 1 hour TV Series episodes.... The next Stargate franchise????
@@davidfujung Roam wasn't built in a day
@@themadmask7734 Ha- love that! Yeah, this short film DEFINITELY wasn't built in a day, or 2, or 10.... or 700......
What I like about this film is that it is an original story with a surprise ending.
Thanks Michael! Spread the word!
I'm not that bright.... but, I think in the end, the guy died, he did NOT take over the woman's body.... right??
@@GunnWrights Actually she took control. But with a twist . they came together.
This needs to be a feature link film or series.
Series
@@mortenduus4095 Yes, music to my ears! A series, to me, would do the IP justice. There are so many layers to this onion (excuse my lack of better words) and to reveal it all in a feature would be very difficult. That is, unless we were franchising it. Let me ask you this- why do you think it should be a series?
@@cainangelle Layers. That is exactly what was running through my imagination as I watched this. There were so many characters with potential subplots of their own and my mind was inventing backstories for each of them. So much potential here!!!!!
One of the best Dust movies ever! How is that even possible to tell such a story in such a short time and still have time for top notch action scenes, suspense and everything? Plus the soundtrack! That doesn't look or feel like a low budget short movie at all
We need more of this, I need more of this. I can't remember the last short film that hooked me so quickly and completely.
Stunning cinematography and outstanding plot, this needs to be picked up by a major studio and made into a full on series or movie. 😍💯💯
Thanks so much for the feedback! We worked hard on this for a long time with no cash- so it's nice to hear from peeps that enjoyed it! Hopefully we can deliver a feature of series if we get some funding!
This was soooo amazing! I miss this kind of scifi storytelling! I loved seeing similar elements of GITS and Altered Carbon. Please turn this into a movie or full-length series!
Thank you Teresah! If you were writing the series, how would you open it?
@@cainangelle Hi Cain! To be honest, it was perfect as is! I also think it would be cool to switch the ending and put it in the beginning to start the series! Overall, it was a fantastic sci-fi short!
Wow. Really classic professionally made film. The music, the lighting, the story all tight and interesting as hell. I would love to see this as a full length movie or a TV series. Kudos to the whole team.
Thanks so much Patricia!
This NEEDS to be a freakin series! Reminds me of Altered Carbon and I love that show.
Let's do it! I'll make it - you finance it! 😀
absolutely!! I would help finance it!
@@Mahlercougar How much can you put in? 😘
I found it more believable than Altered Carbon
@@mahalallel2012 AC is extremly close to reality. We are so near of that phase. You people have no idea.
As much as I love this, The thumbnail is literally the Galaxy brain meme
This looks like a pilot episode for epic TV series. :) Quite interesting. :)
Hi @Andrejs Asd, thank you for your comment. Before we began shooting, David was rewriting up until the day. From the get go, I was adamant about this story ending with a cliffhanger, so on the surface it's a short, that finishes like a pilot without being overly obvious it has a TV feel, which obviously leaves the audience wanting more. A feature adaptation would be nice, and I would proudly get behind one, but I think the world of ROAM is so vast and complex that a series would really do the characters and story justice.
This NEEDS to be made into a movie or series. I want to see more. Really well done.
Bravo
Thanks Jim! really appreciate the comment. pls tell ur friends to watch and help us spread the word. We'd love to make the feature or the series!
I like the duality of the name Roam. You see the name on the building first, so you associate it with people "roaming" in another body.
But later when I heard "Rome" in the monologue, I instantly thought of Imperial Rome and the corruption and disgusting behaviors of those Emperors like Nero. It's all the negative connotations of the Roman Empire. Not sure if this was intentional, but it is fantastic in all that it implies!!
Thanks so much for the thoughtful feedback! Yes- it was definitely intentional to draw comparisons to the Roman Empire. Hopefully, if we're lucky enough to make a series... you will eventually see "The Fall of the ROAM-an empire!"
You're very insightful, and it sounds like you're well-read. I love when the answers bubble to the surface subtly, without having to spoon feed them to the audience.
@@johnturtle6649 it's actually Rider of Another Mortal - and you're right - not Rome, but ROAM. Lot's to play around with... No place like ROAM... ROAM wasn't built in a day... We want MOAR...
Wow, outstanding I want more more more, full movie, full episodes series, or more shorts. This one a keeper.
Magnificent 💛
Thanks Karen!
so pleased to see this here on Dust - came across it months ago = so impressed - loved it - said oh - "If you want to spread this to a wider audience PLEASE contact Dust - their youtube channel has grown so much over the years - this will knock the socks off other subscribers" - so pleased not only see this here on Dust - from the comments - other people are impressed, positive - and like me, want to SEE MORE (which David Jung and the others involved *want* to do - this is a proof of concept - WANT to get the series financed....)
😘
One of the best short films I've seen on Dust. 16 minutes seemed like 2. I was completely absorbed.
More please.
Thanks Mark!
A rare gem among Dust movies. Gripping, unpredictable, great effects. This would be great extended to a full length if all involved could keep up the excellence throughout. Wow from me. Thankyou. 😄 ❤️
Thanks so much!
Dust never fails to set the high standard
Right?! We are very honored to partner with @Dust on this release. They have impeccable taste and a keen eye for talent and longevity. Hopefully we'll continue working together, and churn out a new iteration.
One of the best shorts I've seen on this channel (and I've ashamedly seen them all)
One of the best short films I have seen in a while.
thank you so much! Feel free to let your friends know about it. We need all the eyeballs we can get.
Either I came back from the future or I've already seen this one some time ago. Still very great. Thanks
One of those rare true Sci-Fi movies worth 10/10. I'm very grateful to you David Jung. It takes a lot of time, & many DUST movies to see, before finally finding a great director like you.
One of the best short Sci-Fi reels I've watched not just on Dust, all hosting sites of short reels! Tip of the Fedora to all those involved in the making of "Roam: Rider Of Another Mortal" You guys cracked it with this film. Many thanks to Dust for hosting the film.
impressive short film
This was so totally different and unexpected from what I was expecting. This has to be in my top 5 movie shorts that I would love to see made into a full length feature film or a series. I would love to see another episode involving this womans' war against ROAM. The story, the cgi, the action, it made me wanting more. NOW!!!
Thanks so much, Noah. Really appreciate the feedback and positive support. We have a feature and a series ready to go if we can find the money. Pls help us spread the word, tell ur friends and post on socials. Maybe if we get enough views and comments, we can make more.
I didn't watch a movie for months, but since I discovered DUST I'm so into this chanel. Everyday a few short great films.
This one, ROAM, is just amazing.
This short was so very good, deep, suspenseful, and leaves you on the edge of your seat! I have been binge-watching shorts for the past 5 hours now, and at the end of this I had completely forgotten I was watching another short...... GREAT JOB
GOOD FLICK! Congratulations!
Thanks!
I watched this when Blue Stahli shared it a while back (his track is used), still sat through the whole film again.
It's rather brilliant!
Hey, awesome! Glad you dig it, the movie rules!
Top notch Sci-Fi. Original take on an old theme. Anyone remember the old Twilight Zone (not Outer Limits I think, but??) episode where an old couple comes to the "store" to buy the old man a new body, but end up leaving without so the couple could age together?
A truly gripping short. A proper cinematic experience. I really enjoyed the sheer polished nature of this, from the acting, to the lighting/photography, as well as the fight/chase sequence and tech.
Really impressed by this. You and your crew/colleagues have done a truly amazing job on this David!
Thanks so much! Really appreciate the comment! please share it with your friends and on socials and help us spread the word!
Definitely the best Dust film I’ve seen in ages. A great concept and a brilliantly made short to showcase the plot of what I’m certain would be a superb film or series. Thanks for making this 😀
Your comment is awesome. Thank you. It seems like everyone wants to see a series or feature next, and I feel like we did our job by crafting an entertaining, engaging little piece of sci-fi eye candy. Thanks for watching, and feel free to share. :)

@@upsilon6670 when AC was initially released, I tried to get into it, but the writing, to me, could've been better. I love Kinnaman, and the cinematography, production design, and FX were phenomenal but the story for me, didn't hook me.

This is one of the better ones so far. And possibly the most deserving of a series. The idea is awesome.
This was awesome! Best I've seen on Dust in a while. I'd love to see this as a full feature film.
Thanks Dude!
This has to be one of my favourite channels and with films like this it is easy to see why. It is an interesting account of the Ouroboros in a brutal fashion.
As I've said, I think the future is exiting, but I am quite happy where I am right now... "It's too bad she won't live, but then again who does?" Gaff - Blade Runner
Wow by far a real classic film, just hoped that there would be so many more episodes to this delightful sci-fi film. Great job, mean it.
Evening, I first caught up with this a few months back... loved it then, loved it in between then and now, love it more now. As I already confessed to David, at one point I was thinking back to that old movie "Freejack" this , however, with that Bladerunneresque aesthetic setting the tone perfectly. An awesome job by everyone involved, tight, tense, watchable. Hoping to see more ROAM - possibly as a longer "major feature" or motion picture/series. Brilliant work David.
Thanks so much, Tim! I really appreciate the feedback and comment, means a lot! Was a long hard road to make this film for everyone involved, and the payoff has been fans like you that really dig it. Thanks for watching again and commenting here!
Hi Tim, thank you for the compliments! Where did you watch ROAM a few months back?
The song used in the intro/outro is Obsidian by Blue Stahli! The rest of that album (and his music) is rather good, y'all should check him out!
Special Kudos and Thanks to Blue Stahli for an amazing soundtrack song!

That was so cool it would make a cool sci-fi series or a movie series possibly
Thanks! We're hoping to make one!
This is so so good. I love the twist you guys put on the concept of hopping bodies to live a longer life and of course the identity of who we've been following all this time. I did not see that coming.
The way you guys wove in the suspense was really awesome and kept me at the edge of my seat the whole time. 10/10. Would definitely watch a full length film or a tv series if you guys ever make one

Well worth a longer series based on this premise.
Thank you, we feel the same. We're actively developing this IP as a series, and we have a couple of feature versions written too. Fingers crossed we'll be able to make the next iteration a reality. If it were up to you, would you rather see the series start where this short leaves off, or an expounded version of what this is, or like a prequel?
I honestly can't fault this one! Superb acting and engaging plot. Here's hoping for a part 2 or something similar from the people involved. Well done!

Very well done! Excellent story line; I enjoyed the mental twists in the plot.
Mental twists are sometimes hard to pull off, we thank you for taking notice, it's nice to be recognized.
Thank you DUST
That deserves full time movie
DUST as a whole has been either amazing to watch or absolutely excruciating depending on the moment. This is a major exception to the general kind of feature where thwey lay out bits and pieces of a story but never actually anything resembling an ACTUAL STORY. Here, this follows the short feature bound, but lays out enough that it FEELS fully developed, it is in a world that has touch and depth and is "tangible". just three or four lines of expositive narration gave us everything we needed to know to place this scenario into the world and make sense instead of a visually impressive but disjointed mess that leaves more questions than answers. its one of the few videos ive seen on DUST that actually feels like an actual project and not the artsy "look how i can use camera angles and visual metaphors" piece you always see on DUST
Thanks so much for the positive feedback. We spent a lot of time trying to pack as much story as we could into this little film without it feeling overburdened. Glad to hear the appreciation!
@@davidfujung you dont realize how much your film is a departure from what i normally see. I mean i know the point of DUST is short features and none of them show "the full story" but so many of them leave so much of the world and story unanswered and the clips are done almost as if they are simply lifted from longer features.
