  • Sometimes no matter how much we try, we are not going to be successful. But the keyword here is try. It is much more important to be down in the arena, fighting, regardless of whether you’re winning that particular fight or not, then it is to be a spectator up in the stands.
We now have a podcast! You can access it anywhere that you normally listen to your podcasts. You’ll find it under Dry Creek Wrangler Podcast.
Momma has started her new channel, and I encourage you to go over and check it out. Here is the link.

Dewayne, I'm part of a large silent majority on this channel. I never comment, but I have devoured your content for the past few months. I'm writing because you've had a tangible impact on my life. As I write this, my best friend is undergoing brain surgery, I have spent the last 4-5 days doing everything I can to be there for her, but now I have to sit here and wait. It's a helpless feeling, but I can rest a little easier knowing that I've been a good friend. I dropped everything in my life to be there for someone who matters to me, and now I'm sitting here and all I have is your voice and your thoughts to calm me and pass this time. May God bless you sir.

Man, thank you. I started my construction company 6 years ago. It’s been brutal, the first three years were basically failure after failure, made a colossal amount of mistakes.
People love to see you fail, not the ones who are equally trying however, it’s the ones that aren’t doing a damn thing who love to critique you.
Like you said. We’re in the ring. Taking a beating but at least we’re trying and I’m still standing. I may not be a millionaire but I damn well know I’ve put forth more effort in the last 6 years than some people do in their entire lives. And that’s worth something.

In November of 2008 was the Captain of a fire crew that got overrun by a historic wind-driven fire in Southern CA. It was my decisions during the heat of battle that put is in a very difficult and dangerous situation. Thankfully we all survived with minor injuries and somehow kept our fire engine from burning up. The fact that I misread the situation and unnecessarily put my people in harm's way was a difficult thing for me to sort out for quite a while. A senior engineer at my department sent me the "man in the arena" poem. This poem along with wise counsel from solid folks was instrumental in restoring my confidence as a leader.

I've spent thousands of dollars on counseling and success coaching, but I think I've learned more from men (Dewayne and Alan) who like to sit and smoke pipes. When I started out as an independent driver and bought my first truck, my mom got me a plaque with The Man in the Arena excerpt printed on it. It hangs in my humble little office in the basement, and gives me chills everytime I read it. Teddy is also one of my most favorite historical figures. Great video Dewayne. See ya in June.

You mentioned have a problem with temper. That’s one area I’ve been working on my whole life. I’ve got better as I’ve aged but still loose control at times. The difference now is when that happens instead of mentally excusing myself for cause I wake up with that event on my mind and my conscience lets me know that once again I’ve not kept control. It does not feel good. And that’s a good thing. I end up with a thought that I now speak out loud for my ears to take in. “I will do better”.
    Thank you, Dewayne

    Wise words!
I'm a small business owner, and god knows how much I've been criticized and even ridiculed for trying to build my own business. I've even been ridiculed by relatives in front of my whole family! Fortunetly I had the strenght to know better and never listened. I tryed and I failed many times and the first few years were very hard, but today my business is solid and I can make a confortable living out of it.
Don't waste your time listening to the critics, what do they know? Stand pround in your arena, strive to achieve your goals and make progress every day!
In my country we have a saying that goes something like this: "The dogs bark, but the caravan still goes through!" Think about that. Let them bark and keep your focus.

I was way over my head over what I could handle and thought I was capable of doing all it takes for a business. When I had to call it quits it broke my spirit because I didn’t want to be a failure. I had the support of so much of my friends and family and I didn’t want to let them down. However I’m glad I had the experience, and all the hard work I did with just my wife and I. I've had this conversation with myself several times over my 74 years and to me it comes down to one thing...will power. The will power to get off my butt and be persistent with my effort to continue to move forward, and forward doesn't always mean what it implies. Sometimes it means taking a few side steps to regain my balance and catch my breath or contemplate how to get around the next obstacle. About 20 years ago I had a license plate frame made for my truck that says, Dust Yourself off & Cowboy Up! to remind me to, as you put it, stay in the arena. Good talk Dwayne. Always good to hear your advice, this video was particularly helpful. I'm starting over again, and this really did strike a chord, it seems so obvious but never occurred to me that it doesn't matter if you fail, as long as you're doing the thing you set out to do. Powerful words!
    Thank you.

You don't know how far and in what circles you are appreciated. I find you being talked about in chats among nurses, even. Thank you for taking the time to talk with us, and may you enjoy much health for many years.

Dewayne, Thanks for this timely reminder. This is "arena season", and for me it feels like the ache and soreness from last season (and the voices of the old critics) are still begging for attention, trying to slow me down before this season even gets started. Yet, here we are and it's time to mount up and get back at it! Thank you!

There’s only a small percentage of us left. The type of person you’re describing. You can only teach your kids the right way, and to avoid the type you’re explaining. Some people just can’t be helped. It’s the time of the devil. And some simply can’t be saved.👌🏻

The last few comments sent this home. In reference to God I needed that moment. I'm a 47 year old man who really enjoys your words. I have to dig up your channel but it is well worth it. I lost my dad when my world was pushing me hard to man up. I have raised a great son married a great wife, been a teacher and a preacher. This channel speaks to the inner beings of what we as men have been missing. Kinsmanship. And honest level discernment, admonishment, and love. Your not God but God definitely works through you. Thank you sir.

Two things came to mind when I watched this.
    First, from Proverbs 24:16:
"For a righteous man may fall seven times
    And rise again,
But the wicked shall fall by calamity."
    Second,
In the words of Kendrick Lamar:
"In today's day and age, we practice the self pity of taking the easy way out. You wait on them, him and her, but when a blessing takes too long, that's when you go wrong."

Mr. Dewayne, I want to thank you for your dedication with these inspirational videos and let you know you've been a great teacher to me for this year of 2023 so far. I am going to be turning 26 soon as my birthday is later this month, and it comes as no surprise to me that I'm facing an existential crisis. Mom got diagnosed with Parkinsons' Dad lost part of his left hand.. But I also wanted to say please be cautious if you're having technical difficulties especially with microphones. Perhaps I'm just too paranoid due to my depression but when I myself have such difficulties I worry about surveillance and organized stalking. Will always visit your videos to start my day off right and check in on you & your family, I appreciate your knowledge as an elder. Thanks again for everything Mr. Dewayne, have a nice day.

It would always be a big mistake to say "I can't" around my mother. That was a sure fire guarantee you WOULD do it. She would immediately say "Can't is a beggar that won't". So I learned early to saddle up and giddy up. It has served me well.

Sometimes I wish the channel would stay small so I can hoard all these invaluable gems of wisdom for myself, but I know there are many people out there that really need to hear these words to help them weather their own storms. Subscribed at 45k and I hope to see this channel grow to astronomical heights. Bless up everyone 🙏

I really appreciate the effort you are putting into making these videos! Sir, I don't know you and probably never will, but if I may, you saved my life. And what I mean by saying that is the way you can put experience into wisdom is unique and the way you speak and most importantly what you speak about is just exactly what I needed in this stage of my life. Once again, thank you so much and blessed be you! Wish you the best from Europe, Czechia!
