- There’s not enough respect in the world. People do not respect themselves. People do not respect each other, and people demand respect where respect is not due. Tonight we just have a simple conversation regarding respect for ourselves and for others.

As kids we were focusing on beeing a servant (like jesus) to everyone. That's what my mom lived.
That's not bad of itself, but the consequence was getting soft, beeing an easy target for manipulation and shutting down the own opinion. In the end theres a lot of frustration and selfdoubt.
Giving yourself up to God, thats alright (I'm no christian myself but i ghet the concept). Giving yourself up to another human beeing, thats just wrong. For both parties, especially if its your own kids. (Moma talks about that in her channel)
So knowing the laws of respect, knowing how to give and to recieve it, what it implies and what it excludes, is absolutely essential for beeing a complete human beeing.
I'm really greatful for this channel to help me collect the wisdom i was missing out.

that sound like a good way to do it, I personally had to come up with how I do it myself, I just give people the same respect I expect to get back from a new person, from there one it either decreases or increases upon how much they give back.
Respect isn't like a paycheck, by doing the work it doesn't guarantee you a paycheck at the end of the day. Sometimes giving out respect will make you look weak in the eyes of others and they will see you more as an easy target. I say have respect for yourself and only give out respect to people who deserve it. Who deserves it? People capable of self-awarness, realizing their mistakes. I've seen too many narcissists in my life and they prey off people who give out respect like candy because they know how foolish it is, how easy it is to take advantage of due to the naive nature of it.
Give out respect at your own peril. And one other thing I hear from time to time is the misconstrued idea that respect is equal to common decency. It is not.

Conduct yourself with politeness, hold your temper, refuse to be manipulated into acting against your will, be decent to those who deserve it. But give respect out at your own peril. If you respect everyone, you either live among paragons of humankind because they all deserve veneration, or more likely you set the bar to low and venerate the unvenerable, and it's undeserving and cheapens true greatness. When you withhold respect it makes it rare, and rarity is where true value lies. Have decency, withhold the respect.
I'm a female in my late 20's and appreciate your videos. It didn't even cross my mind that you might be speaking more towards a male audience. So just keep being you. You are genuine and have morals. That's all a good leader/teacher needs, honestly. You've got this country girl listening and taking your advice. And yes, women are the same when it comes to respect. Except it's done more often behind our backs. Women friendships are very very fickle these days.

So true. One of my closest friends who was just killed in an automobile accident recently, gained the respect of so many people through this platform that it was almost comical, and unbelievable. And he gained a lot of that respect because he even respected his biggest haters. I know that sounds counterintuitive, but he was a fairly popular man on UA-cam. And when you become noticed on UA-cam, you just develop haters naturally, it’s the nature of the beast. But because my friend was so kind and respectful to EVERYONE, including the haters, that set him apart from the rest, a true one of a kind man. Sometimes, it really does seem that the best are always the first to leave this earth before the bad.

I think one of the aspects of respect is to respect yourself and set boundaries around that, including a willingness to let people know which behaviors you do not respect.

I'm a 38 year old man with a wife and two children one 10 year old boy and a 3 year old girl. We live in Southern Illinois. I lost my dad a couple years back an he was my best friend. Any problem I had I could call him and he had a answer for or could fix. When it was his time it left a hole in me. We would sit in the early mornings an have discussions over the things that were happening and he always found a way to make things better. I found your channel a couple weeks ago and started watching your videos. I found myself getting up early to get coffee an go to the garage to watch your videos. It gives me a sense of how my father was an the talks we had. It's not a replacement for him but it reminds me who he was an who he made me. What your doing helps an sometimes even grow men can get lost an need a hand in life. A small talk can go a long way.....thank you

Well said Dwayne. I am 72 and have been a lot of places and have worked with a lot of people. One thing that I learned at a young age was that it takes time and hard work to earn someone’s respect. It is not something that you are automatically given. On the other hand, it takes almost nothing to loose that respect that you worked so hard to earn. I continue to send your words of wisdom to my kids and grandkids. Hopefully some of your advice will sink in and make them better examples and citizens in this world that we live.

I lost my father when I was 15, i'm nearly 35 now, I wish he were around a lot longer to help me out with things, but he was a Vietnam veteran infantry tunnel rat, he lived through some crazy shit and died early at 58. He protected and loved his family till the end though, but never truly forged fatherly values to hand down, your videos help me out a lot mate, thank you.

To add to workplace respect and disrespect. Make sure it’s ACTUAL disrespect you’re receiving and not playful ribbing. I got “picked on” a lot at work. My boss says to me, “we mess with you cause we like you. If we didn’t say a word to you, that’s when you know there’s a problem.” Us guys are just like that. However if it’s blatant with no smiles and winks afterwords, then it’s real bullying. Or if you’re still confused, don’t be afraid to ask the person outright (peacefully of course).
From what I have experienced, if guys start giving you a hard time and you just laugh it off, they will usually leave you alone. But if they can tell that they have gotten to you, they won't stop
Agree w you and want to add that I used to take offense and seek pity or lash out in anger. Now I actually enjoy being brunt of jokes bc it keeps the attention off others who might not be able to handle it, plus it gives me chances to be witty back at them. It's all fun and games if everyone is laughing. This world is too dark to be serious all the time

I struggle with this, having served time in a particularly violent ohio prison at the age of 20.. it became normal to fight at the slightest sign of disrespect. Recently lost a job due to an interaction with my manager.. this ugly hog was unbelievably rude to me because I asked for another waiters apron due to a coworker swiping mine. She told me that I had to pay for it if it happened again, and that's fine with me.. but her tone was just horrible, beyond rude, and derisive.. needless to say, I told her to get fucked if she felt like she could speak to me like that over an apron. I'm absolutely certain that most corporations hire the most miserable people for management, the trend is unmistakable.
One of my favorite break downs of any word is Responsibility... Given my ability what is my response, sounds simple but with proper understanding is not simple. It is very direct and complicated. It is truly HOW we choose to live our lives given that one word. We should embrace Responsibility and understand more of it, more of what our own responsibility is. There's great power and pride to be earned in knowing this and choosing to take it on. Society today is always encouraging us to take on less and less responsibility, but I'll tell y'all, go take on more of it and challenge yourselves, you'll surely grow stonger when you do.
Sir, I was raised back in a day. When if your neighbors addressed you, you started your sentence with ma’am, and finished it with ma’am you held doors open for folks, and you just had a lot more common courtesy. Something I had forgotten about that Dwayne touched on was regarding how respect is earned and not given. Generally, you should have a baseline level of respect for those around you, you could call that manners. Now, too many people forget that when you don’t give someone that baseline respect/ have manners, you will get what you give. Too many times I’ve seen someone not give that respect and be totally upset when they are disrespected and it was a direct reflection on how they treated someone else. Now, you will never earn respect if you don’t give a little. Earned respect is a two way street that takes effort and time to build. Give a little respect to people in yo ur daily interactions and you’ll be blown away by how much people are willing to go out of their way for you that are complete strangers. A little goes a long way and I’m glad my father taught me that.

Its terrifying how much respect we lost for ourselves over the decades. I try and teach my boys that you have to love and respect yourself first before anything. It seems simple. It isn't. It starts young. And parents are having children without any respect for themselves. And we all see the results.

Good one! Im from MS living in Colorado for 8 years and sometimes I think people take our niceness and respect for weakness. You are the man! Im almost 36 and I tell my wife I want to be just like you when I grow up. She says I sure hope so. Hahaha

I respect everyone the same regardless of age. My respect can grow or diminish depending on how you behave and who you are. But I don’t see why I should tolerate disrespect from someone just because they’ve been breathing longer than me. Maybe I’ll think differently when I’m 60+

When someone that you trust says that they are going to do something and then doesn't do it even after saying 3 time's that they were good for their word. That's disrespect! Let your yes mean yes and your no mean no. Great talk brother! I learned a hard lesson from one who I thought that was a good friend but turned out to be dishonest. Hold your friends close so long as they are a real friend!
I always had trouble with verses in the bible that call for us to be meek. However I’ve learned that meekness doesn’t mean weak or a that you’re a push over. It comes from the it comes from the Greek “Prautes” which translates to decided strength of disciplined calmness. It’s having the power to wield a sword when needed, but knowing when to keep it sheathed.

Thanks so much for your time invested in sharing these important topics. I live in the opposite side of the globe, a small country of Kyrgyzstan. We have a great deal of horses here and I'll be paying more attention to this whole culture and might even take a lesson or two on riding, but more than everything I'm thankful for your warmth, calmness and encouragement to us, who really need to clean up our corner of the planet. I worked in Law Enforcement for 22 years. I listened to you're story about the man that said he was going to kick your horse. This behavior sounds like Sociopathic behavior. Three to five percent of our society are sociopathic. Studies can't get a perfect percentage on this behavior. Your reaction was the best you could have done. If you had stepped down he would have rode off before you could get to him. He would have most likely started screaming and yelling over his shoulder as he scurried off. Then, if you had gone after him, he would have changed into the victim and pouted about your aggressive behavior. People should study sociopathic and narcissistic behavior. Not just read the definition but read studies by Doctor's. It will suprise you as to how many you have encountered through life. It will also help you protect yourself. You're family and your property.

I had a situation to where I had to end a friendship with someone today. Instead of getting all angry with them, I decided to not argue with them, wish them well - but ending ties there and then because of how they were acting towards me. They weren't worth the respect of me going through the effort of continuing to associate with them.
A question, if you'll bear with me - is it possible that continuing to associate with them would be disrespectful? I was thinking about how we have respect for, say, wolves; because they have the power to cause serious harm to us, we hold them with a special regard that dictates how we interact with them. Could we say the same thing for humans, and the people we know - to hold respect for both our allies and our enemies, knowing both the good and the evil they're capable of? And even, respect for the impotent, and those who insofar have only sat on the fence - knowing that they too have the potential to grow into either monsters or angels?
@@sqwwrrwl That is a good statement. That person knew a fair bit about me since we originally met in 2019. They were not directly antagonistic towards me, but I found them to be nearly incapable of basic logic and they worshipped the narratives the media in this country spews and basically looked down on me for thinking the opposite. We had already grown apart throughout the years to the point where we didn't talk that much anymore, and I suppose it was a mutual respect to move on from that relations and allow something better to take its place.

@@sqwwrrwl We never will entirely know the outcome of our choices. Sometimes, such as this, one can guess that the alternative (letting people act like that towards you, or letting loose ends not get cut) isn't going to lead to better, indeed.

Something came up between myself and another gentleman (much older than myself), yesterday, on the job. I thought of you and how you would handle it, and I think I did the right thing. Thank you! respect has been a hard question for me for my entire life and im 41 today. i agree with everything you said. that the most important is to respect oneself, and hold oneself to or own standards. when we don't have self standards, society becomes our standard. and when that happens, and society treats us like shit, then we begin to believe ourselves shit... i have seen people grow and become stronger, but i have seen people's self esteem chipped away by society. and they end their own life. thank you for making the video.
I cannot state my appreciation towards you sir. I am a 22 year old man. Been working in hard labour since twelve mechanics, construction been all over. My problem was or in this case there problem was men my age they’re like children to me. Very disrespectful, full of hate and pity. Only when I changed the people around which right now is middle aged men I understood the quality of good men. The men who know when to keep there mouth closed and know when to speak. Whilst men older than me praised me for my wit my strong stature things I’ve built for my family. I was slandered by men who didn’t know any better.
Can I even blame there fathers my father passed when I was young then I was forced to become a man. Two different worlds we live in where there are still children who have grown their bodies but not there minds. And then men the alone strong men. Dwayne- I live in far northeast Minnesota- 56 years old self employed contractor- fortunately in a well designed respectful environment- fortunate because there are a good mix of white and blue collar folks to work for, who realize respect is the basis for all we depend upon in each other- the other nite I met two retired blue collar fellows who knew my customer, and treated us like I know you treat your contacts- it’s always the start of something great when that happens- but I know that much of the world doesn’t experience this often enough- thank you for the great talk- we need more folks like yourselves doing great work-Godspeed

I was taught to respect my elders and people of certain positions automatically, before I would actually know them or their deeds. I would give them a certain level of respect and it was basically up to them to maintain or lose my respect. Today, so, so many people think they deserve respect just for being alive no matter their behavior. For me, respect is earned, and either maintained or lost. They way a person conducts themselves and their actions to others is what I look at.
Thats such a great story to hear. When people disrespect me like that old man did you, most times I sit there quiet until they’re done and go on my way. Sometimes though I would look back and think perhaps I should’ve done something back, but you put it eloquently “let him disrespect himself” This gives me more confidence in taking the high road and not always retaliating when ppl come at me. Of course if ppl disrespect my fiance the gloves come off
Greetings from the UK. Honestly, I just discovered your channel, and this is exactly what young men need these days. As young men, we’ve been taught that masculine values are bad for decades. Everybody wants to throw traditional values out of the window, not realising that these values are what keeps us civilised as a society. Maybe that’s why everything is going to hell nowadays. Don’t listen to the new age propaganda lads. Respect and preserve the values and traditions of our ancestors.
Something ima to throw out there for anybody who needs to hear... When I was 16 I was angry at the world looking for a reason to fight. My grandmother's brother died and we went to the funeral, afterwards everybody gathered at his house to assist in clearing out his belongings and helping his wife move. His son who is every bit of 40 years old started picking a fight with my grandfather calling him names being disrespectful and had had enough (I'll be damned if anybody's going to talk to my grandfather like that were my thoughts) and just about the time I was going to let loose on this man my grandfather stopped me and put his hand on my chest. In that moment he said to me "you can't blame a man for the grief he feels or understand where he's coming from and it is unfair to him for you to unleash your perspective via your fists, let him work out his grief in his own ways. It takes more strength to be patient than it does to be violent". I let that man slide against my better judgment I allowed him to continue to speak to my grandfather in that way. My grandfather just smiled and told the man "everything's going to work itself out there's nothing you can do about it I'm sorry this happened to you". What that man taught me is irreversible,
and I would trade myself any day if he could teach anybody who's willing to listen.

I worked with a guy who always talked down about people, specific or general it didn't matter. Never got through to him that maybe he was the one with the problem...
I always tell people that they have my respect until they lose it. Learned after a long time of being young and foolish that how you treat someone says more about you than it does about the other person. Being civil does not mean you condone how someone else behaves.
Just stumbled across your channel recently, but so far loving the content! This is how my parents tried to bring me up, and at 35 I think I'm finally getting it =)
I think the point you made about how disrespecting your Wife being the same as disrespecting yourself works very well for the broader aspect of respecting fellow Man.
While the unity between you and your partner are stronger than between you and any old stranger, it is worth noting that you are also bound to this stranger in your humanity. We cannot exist without our environment, we are part of it. If we choose to help a stranger we choose to help ourselves for you both make up the bigger picture of which we all consist. Same thing applies for respect.

respect is something ive fallen to so many times already, and it's bound to happen again and again. It's certainly not formulaic, but what you say about due respect is something I wish my generation understood better. one corner refuses to acknowledge the other, and debates over semantics riddle the arena. it's hard to tell the truth anymore, it's hard to find who I can trust, and many people feel disillusioned by those around them because semantics cloud respect. The greatest illusion is that of separation, but respect is a glue which clings to humanity and finds common ground.
Respect and being respectful are important traits in being a decent human being walking this earth.
At 60 I end transactions with a "Thank you".
Many times I will address older men as "Young man", younger men as "Sir", older women as "Young lady" and younger women as "Ma'am".
Hell my daddy died when I was 13 and I've been living with respect for myself and ur exactly right. Innately many of us know it.. momma did great on her videos lol I'm excited for u guys

Yes! I'm still young and in my twenties but I've noticed the problem with definitions, definitely! I love the definition of respect you gave us, people today just don't have the respect. They don't know the shame either. I learned to respect myself and others but people usually only learn to expect the respect, not to give it.
