I have both. To me, the OLED to LCD is not a downgrade. The Vita 1000 came out in a time when OLED screens were in their infancy and the 1000 I bought is in PERFECT condition which I purchased pre-owned loose from GameStop back in 2016. Flawless and no scratches or chips. The downside is the screen burn on the OLED screen. Very noticeable. So I purchased a 2000 to preserve my 1000. I don’t use it at all. The LCD will last much longer and to me the OLED removal doesn’t really reduce gameplay. Also the downside of the 1000 is the proprietary cable!! It was a NIGHTMARE trying to find a third party cable that would charge and transfer data. All the ones I found only charged but were missing the pin that supports data transfer. I finally found one on Amazon and purchased extras just in case the OEM takes a shit. You can’t find OEM cables for 1000 loose. I tried. On the other hand with 2000 it’s a micro usb which there are a plethora of them available that will charge and transfer data.

This is the one comment that doesn’t reek of copium by 1000 owners. My main concern is preserving the life of my handheld consoles, and after watching the video, I agree that you aren’t losing a lot going with the lcd screen. You don’t have to worry about burn-in, but more importantly, like you said, lcd screens have a much longer lifespan compared to oled.
I’d also argue the extra hour of battery life is also a noticeable upgrade; less charging and if battery degrades overtime you have one hour to make up for it.
Plus the lightweight feel is awesome, and the ‘less premium feel’ actually makes it a viable option for portable gaming and ease of mind. With the 1000, it feels like I’m holding a iPhone 13 without a screen, and also heavier on the hands.

LCD is definitely a downgrade. OLED screen burn is only an issue if you play several hours non stop with a non moving image on screen. The LCD screen lacks clarity and completely misrepresents colors and tints of all Vita games. But for those who dont know any better, more power to you. 👏

The issue with the proprietary cable isn't the inconvenience of having more cables, it's getting a replacement when the cable eventually breaks.
Also, the OLED isn't really strictly a benefit, I bought my Vita 1000 at launch and the screen has gotten super dim over the years, which is a common occurence with early OLED panels.

    • @guitarboyjeff

It was a NIGHTMARE trying to find a replacement third party cable that supports both charging and data transfer. There are a bunch I found on Amazon but 5 different cables from 5 different manufacturers did not support data transfer. I finally found a third party manufacturer that makes the cable both charge and supports data transfer. I bought like 3 or 4 extras lol. It’s also very hard to find an OEM cable loose. Probably more expensive now if there are some or they will inly come attached with a Vita.

@@nicklascazares right away the big difference you’ll notice is that unlike Americans in general Japanese people actually take care of their system. I got two pre owned vitas one in the state and the other from overseas and the difference is night and day.
Regarding the color, I think it looks beautiful. I use it without a case cause it’s much more comfortable. I think it’s as simple as just checking if your hands are clean before playing and that’s it really. For my system it did come with there some yellowing in the VOL letters for volume, that doesn’t really phase me though. It’s possible that other parts may yellow over time but so far it still looks great.

I've got the OLED and the Slim Vitas and man, I definetely love the Slim way more than the OLED. Slim's form factor, comfort, micro-USB port and battery life are way superior than what the OLED can offer.
Btw, I am one of those people that think that the color space registry "hack" for the Slim makes the screen look as amazing as the OLED one, but with way better color temperature and color representation.

The vita slim is mostly downgrades and 2 min or upgrades and that's better battery life and a standard Micro USB port. The 1000 as we all know has a gorgeous OLED display, it also has better build quality, it feels like it was built to last and it also has higher quality hall effect analogue sticks which the 2000 lacks. Jailbreaking the 1000 no longer requires a memory card as the internal flash can be repartitioned to the same layout as the 2000 to get the same 1GB internal storage, it can actually be repartition to get over 2GB. At this point Imo its only really worth getting a Vita if you intend to jailbreak it and with the improvements made to this there is no difference in convenience between the two really.
    Here's my summary:
    Performance: tie
    Screen: 1000
Size & Weight: 2000 (some people do actually prefer the extra weight and thickness of the 1000)
Convenience: 2000, this is because as you say the the charging port but now even micro B is becoming less common and you can get cheap aftermarket cables for the 1000, as for battery life, no one really is gonna sit down and play on one of these for a straight 5+ hours, Also when you jailbreak either one now you can repartition and you don't need an memory card
    Battery life: 2000
    build quality/feel : 1000
Longevity: 1000 I'm adding this one because the 1000 is built from higher quality components, for example the analogue sticks are hall effect basically making them immune to drift, that's not the case with the 2000. the 2000 was not really built to last, its a revised model that was designed with the intention of reducing the price as well as manufacturing costs and they also added a bunch of colour options to make it appeal to more people.
So for me its a tie.

Even today, I can't get over how beautiful the screen is. I also think the proprietary plug has actually kept me from losing it over time. If it had a micro USB, I would have long ago pilfered it to use for some other device. Micro USBs just disappear in my house.

One thing that people overlook when reccomending the 1000 model for the OLED screen is that OLED can age.
I got myself a used 1000 a month ago and the screen have a yellow tint which is noticeable when the screen turns off. I miss that in the listing photos because there's no photo of it off and the photos itself are lowres.
There's also black spotches noticeable when I play in the dark and the screen is black for a moment.
At least screen replacement seems to go about $20 to $30. I will replace the screen eventually but for now I'm fine with it. You won't notice it much if you play in well lit room with colorful games.

I'm pretty sure the edge of the 1000 is just painted plastic. I just picked up a MINT 1000 for $120/£85 and it had a 16gb card inside! It's so perfect, I don't wanna put a scratch on it so I might have to get a beat up one for everyday use 🤣

Never saw a 2000 personally but always read that it had a very warm screen, to the point where it looks very different and the whites are just yellow compared to the 1000.

I bought mine in 2018 and had to order it from Japan to get a brand new aqua blue one. I now own a whole bunch of games physically and digitally...I own all the rare and must have accessories, including the PDP PS Vita Pull N Go Folio,Hori remote play assist grip (best L1 R1 L2 R2 L3 R3 grip) ,and the Nyko Power Grip. Now, I want to get the Vita with OLED screen. I want the cosmic red one and I want it modded with a ton of retro games..my aqua blue one isn't modded

I just got my hands on a 2000 models just the other day, I grew up having both models, my little brother broke my 1000 then my 2000 crapped out after high school, I prefer the 2000 personally because one chief problem I had was the oled on my 1000 got burnt out

    • @Destructor8031
      @Destructor8031 4 місяці тому

Yeah that's the main drawback with OLED, more so with the Vita because another drawback with OLED was brightness so they made the Vita OLED screen bright at the cost of making it more prone to burn it but its also a lottery. Regardless I've got an OG VIta and it has no burn in, the key is avoid having static images on the screen for prolonged periods of time as well as not having the brightness maxxed out all the time.

I remember when the PS Vita 1000 came out, there were two models a Wi-Fi and a 3-g, the 3-g promise to give everyone online gaming but you couldn't download any game without Wi-Fi or update the system and you were supposed to get 3 free games but no one I know ever got the free games for signing up to the 3-g service

  • @catoblepag

I have both models and I honestly don't know why so many people prefer the fat 'cause it "feels more premium". I'm sorry, but it really doesn't... it's just heavier. No offense, but in a lot of cases I suspect it's just an excuse to avoid shelling out more money for another console. The PSVita Slim wins in every aspect that counts for a portable device: weight, size, ergonomics, button placement, battery life. To me, it's not even a contest.

    What is your favourite grip?
Back when I got my Vita in 2013, I quickly realised that the back touch panel was going to be an issue in some games. I was playing a Fifa game (part of bundle) and found that my fingers naturally rested on the touchpad, so I was causing button presses in the game.
So I had a look around and settled on the 'König Easy Grip'. A really comfortable grip, which basically makes the Vita look like a dualshock controller with a screen. Unfortunately it seems like they are very hard to find these days, so I'm hoping I won't damage mine.

I got a 1000 from a pawn shop for 75$ it didnt have a charger so it was Kind of a risky buy. I ordered a charger from amazon and it works a little scruffed but it works and saved me alot from a private seller or stingy game stores

you have a different 1000 model than me. i dont have the slot on the left side of console like you do so im guessing the one you have is the 3g model. as for the mem card slot i only used it so i could install required apps to jailbreak using browser method then made a 3gb internal partition then i made henkaku permanent. after i removed it and now using an sd2vita adapter with a 400gb sd. i kinda like the 1000 model more not only cause of the oled screen, but cause it feels more comfortable in my hands when playing games. plus theres a bit more room to add an internal light mod if wanted. i do admit tho that the rear touch panel is a pain in the shoopuff especially when playing games like marvel x tekken. seeing your characters swap out all the time is a pain when fighting. its nice to have for other games, but sony should of made it smaller or at least given us the option to turn it off. having a touch screen is more than enough. oh and replacement parts for all models is a pain to find especially analog sticks and you cant use ones for the 2000 models and i need a new left one and $25 for one is too high compared to $2 for one for the switch

Regarding your comment on buying a 2nd 2000 model and keeping it for storage for a while. Doesn't that ruin your battery if you leave it uncharged for so much time ? (your suggested 20 years) That made me think: What's a good strategy for prolonged keeping a battery in good condition of retro gaming handhelds ? Oceasional charging once or twice a year ? Open up the unit and unplug the battery physically ? pre-emptively buy spare batteries before their not available anymore ?

One thing I do have to point out is that I dont see finger prints on my 1001 models body as bad since I have the white model. It's just the black model that's a finger print magnet same with the black 2001, I know since my 2001 is the black model. 😂🤣

This isn't mentioned and I don't know if it's a problem for the PS Vita 1000, but EVERY portable device with an OLED display I've ever had has suffered from severe screen burn after months of use. It can be mitigated by keeping the screen dimmed or making sure you never have the screen on while sitting on a static or semi static image with bright colors, but it has made me absolutely hate OLED displays and value LCD displays a lot more. A more vibrant display is completely ruined if you have permanent screen burn from playing one game too much.

I've had both. I had the 3g 1000 and sold it as I found it too heavy for any more than an hour of gaming. Love my slim, nice and light and don't feel I have to "baby" it like I did with the 1000.
