The ONLY reasons to own a Vita in 2024 is SD2Vita, PKGj, Adrenaline, Homebrew and lower end emulation. Way too expensive to collect physically games now and some games are impossible to find. Hacked my Vita about 5yrs ago now and sold off my collection of around 40+ games. Probably tripled if not quadrupled what i originally paid for them
Prices for physical games have gone down a bit again. Games like Danganronpa and Trails of cold steel used to go for 120 dollar, where you can get them now for about half or even less. Probably has to do with the fact that most games are ported to other platforms in the meantime

You need to mod your Vita in this day and time. I modded mine last year and it has been a great experience. I’m also collecting as many physical games as I can in the Same time
I will have to dislike the video for the simple reason that nobody can make a video talking about VITA without at least glimpsing a bit about jailbreak.
Some of my favorite experiences on Vita have been vanilla wear games, like Odinsphere, Dragon's Crown, and Muramasa (which is stuck on PSVita and Wii). Those games looked gorgeous on the OLED
Matty you're reading my mind here as someone who got the white and neon yellow as a Japan import a few months ago 😅 Getting to play dragons crown, persona, metal gear HD collection all on this beautifully small device has been a blessing
Arkham Origins Blackgate is great but I found it to be VERY difficult. I bought an OLED 3G model and used it as recently as today. Love the varity of content, VITA originals, PSP game and PS2 and PS One originals. Golden Abyss and Hot Shots Golf were always two of my favorites. Great video, thanks.
@@armandomorales0921 Not sure which game you’re asking about… I’m still in the middle of Blackgate (I needed a break from a challenging boss fight) but I have played several play throughs of Golden Abyss and don’t remember it being a short game.
Killzone Mercenary is my favorite game for the Vita. Sadly the online multiplayer was shut down a couple years ago which I would play all the time. You mentioned in this video that there’s still people playing so maybe it was brought back online if you played it not long ago? That would be a dream come true.
One of the most underrated handhelds. I'm really hoping those new Playstation handheld rumors are true. It would be great if it was backwards compatible with the Vita but it probably won't. Been a PSVita fan since it launched!!!
4 ps vita and growing. Only two physical disc though. Hope I can find affordable games on my area. The prices are very expensive. I love playing physical games now than before after experiencing unlimited library, I learned that slow game building gives more anticipation and excitement.
Ps vita is my favourite handheld.. I’ve got 2oled (one broke now) black slim & Japan silver slim.. I got so many years ago to stack up for the future.. back then I have payed for 3 vitas less then for 1 iPhone!
Used to enjoy the vita when I first got it but then Sony stopped supporting it and games got cancelled 😤😐my favourite handhelds now are rog ally and switch
I love my Vita. I mostly got it to play the definitive (imo) editions of the first 5 Trails games, but I've since enjoyed plenty of other games on it that further justify the purchase: Gravity Rush, DQ Builders, Monkey Ball, the Sly games. Eventually I want to get around to playing other stuff on it like FFX/X-2, Ys, Dangan Ronpa, and the 999 trilogy. It's also my goto device for Retro Achievements. Wish RetroArch on it could handle PSP/DS games though. That would make it perfect.
I just got mine after not having one for 4 years. In that 4 years I retained all the physical copies of past Vita games. I logged in to PSN a few minutes ago and found out all of my past digital purchases could be downloaded as well. Games, Themes, DLC...Muramasa STILL hasn't been re-released since the Vita and it's my favorite game. Seeing how I still have the DLC available for download just made my day. I was a Vita fanatic back in the day, so I have a large backlog - larger than the Switch 😅
My husband and I both picked up Vitas last year. I got the silver OLED imported from Japan and I love it, my husband picked up the metallic blue one at a convention. Haven’t put too much time into the console yet bc I simply have too many hobbies but I’ve enjoyed my experience with it so far! As a fan of Little Big Planet I really liked Tearaway. I picked up Persona 4 Golden and when I get around to playing it that will be my first Persona game 😄.
Hopefully you pick up the criminally underated LBP title for the Vita, has some great niches, and is overall a great entry in the series. Tops the third LBP game easy, for me.
22:34 Is this how you were playing for the Dissidia video the other day? Smart, that's how I'm also playing it now! Vita really "living" up to its name in 2024!
Man, I still have my white PS Vita *Man, seeing you talk about Freedom Wars brought back so many good memories, my friend and I used to spend hours playing that game together
I play my vita almost on daily basis, welcome to the club buddy! got more than 150 physicals and still collecting. This is by far my favourite system and our little community is still supporting it!
The video says that you can play Freedom Wars & Killzone Mercenaries online. I think that's wrong, even at the time the video was posted. Both games have shut down servers. Freedom Wars in 2021, Killzone in 2022.
Apologies, not trying to be that guy, but ratchet collection absolutely released in NA. I worked at gamestop when the vita released, I was a day one adopter. Also just mod your vita, it's the best handheld made better modded
One really good thing about the PSVita slim, if you're into modding is that you can replace the microsub with a USB-C connector. One thing i would recommend everyone if you don't really like having 300 cartridges is to install CFW and get one of those SD2Vita adapters and pop in a 256gb or bigger SD card in it.
I would say a switch lite as for me I find the vita library too jrpg and Japanese game heavy whereas to me there is more game variety on the switch and some great exclusives like the Zelda games, Pokemon, Mario
Just recently, my vita updated itself while on wifi and then i noticed a lot of the games disappeared and the apps where not loading up. Was it a good idea to leave on wifi??
Wait so can you just buy games on the vita store or is that not an option anymore? I've been hearing about how connecting to the internet is annoying and the store closed down so I'm a bit confused and seem to be hearing mixed info regarding this. I had an original PSP and was actually pleasantly surprised by how nice of a handheld it was back around the time it came out but I never got around to buying a vita. I basically just want to experience what I missed out on but I'm concerned about not being able to buy/download certain games or having to go through arduous steps to connect to the internet in order to do so.
I bought the PS TV to play vita games I own a vita, bought it when it came out. just prefer playing on the tv. I played uncharted, supposedly not supported on the ps tv, but it worked, there were a couple spots I had to switch back to the vita to play it. Using cloud save. Not sure if that works now with psn. but.
I bought my Vita back when I was in the Philippines with my girl a few years ago. I'm going to be honest I haven't played it much since I bought it but I almost forgot that I had it and I started playing freedom wars again and I forgot how kinda good it was. This will be a system I'll pick up and play every Blue Moon. Because of the PS5 and the switch that I'm about to get in the next 2 months. I'm bringing my vita with me this summer when I go see my fiancee.
Still find it ironic that for a console called a vita which means life Sony pretty much killed it but stopping supporting it, still great portable device though still use my oled vita
PS Vita is my favourite handheld. I have over 500 games for it and it's my go to when travelling. It's a shame it didn't have stronger support, but there is definitely no shortage of games available for it! Also, who doesn't love trophy hunting while on the go?
The Vita is such a sick handheld, there's nothing else quite like it. I have a 1000 I got around in 15 or so, and another JP 1000 on ebay like in 20/21. My US one is fully cfw'd and loaded with cool shit. I love that it sort of makes my PSPs redundant with Adrenaline, though I can't use the PSP GPS or Camera with the Vita... You're right, you need a MicroSD adapter and cfw in addition to the card. I'm currently using a 128gb. The JP Vita on the other hand, different story. Bone stock. It randomly started boot looping after being left in rest mode for like 2 months. It wouldn't stop either, after the battery died & was charged again it continued. I assume it's an issue with one of the boards in the unit. I've also put cfw on my friend's Vita twice, since he restored factory settings one time. That reminds me, I'm supposed to put some .prx files on there for him. Huh, I didn't know the PSTV had restrictions on what games you could play. That seems like either a Sony or a publisher thing to be honest.
I have a Samsung tablet which I really liked but for some reason like you had every time I used it it would be suck in an endless restart loop and would do that until the battery was flat, I wondered if it was possible to remove the back cover and take the battery out - I managed to use my knife from my Swiss Army knife to lift the back cover off and actually managed to remove the large battery I left it out of the tablet for a while then reinserted it and now it’s charging currently at 71% so that seems to have fixed it. And yeah to me ps tv was a great idea but the fact only some of the vita games were compatible was what made it not very popular and much worse than it could have been
I love the Vita, still slowly going for my full NA collection. I don't know if you've checked but Killzone and Freedom wars have both been taken offline.
Just bought a white oled 1001 model off marketplace for 80 bucks canadian. Jumped on it right away, and it's near flawless. It was hacked, but I removed it, I got it for trophy hunting and chill gaming. Loved the video, I'm excited to go game hunting for this thing
i bought a vita a little less than a year ago and i’ve been able to beat 20 games that have been sitting in my backlog all during my breaks at work 🙏🏻 thank god for having a job i can be lazy at.
MrMattyPlays? I remember watching you so much before the Fallout 4 release. Unfortunately, I didn't end up playing it all that much because I had so much fun modding New Vegas
You can still get achievements in previously owned games. You install the game by putting in the cartridge. Then you delete the game on the Vita. You pull out the cartridge and put it in again. You install the game again. After that you can earn achievements in that game.
I've tried every grip option for the vita 1000 and every single one of them is considerably less comfortable than the vita is with no grip, at least all the ones available for sale now are poorly designed and just don't work well for extended sessions while the vita with just a basic case on it is pretty darn comfortable.
One of my best friends gave me his Vita that he didn't want anymore a few years ago, and I jailbroke it and it's something I always take with me when I travel. I used to dream about being able to have a ps1 collection of rpg's that I carried with me and now I do. The Vita is an awesome little handheld machine
My aim is also terrible on uncharted. Uncharted is the sole reason why i got my vita a month ago. Got 10 games with it. 1. God of War Collection 2. Uncharted golden abyss 3. Nfs most wanted. 4. Sly cooper thieves of time. 5. Fifa football. 6. Rugby 15. 7. Batman Lego 8. Batman arkham 9. AC Liberation 10. Cod Classified sum sum
...I picked up the vita 5 years ago & never had the chance to really played it...the only reason at that time was for Persona 4 Golden but I only just completed P4G last year and just suddenly saw the potential of Vita & feel I have missed the train...😅...
I loved the gyro aiming on certain Vita titles like Uncharted. I used the sticks for aiming the cross hairs in the general area and then fine tuning with the gyro controls.
The Vita is my favorite handheld. The OLED screen is gorgeous and the fact that you can play PSP and PS1 games on it means it has a massive library. I don't trust Sony to keep the PSN servers operating forever, so I pre-emptively downloaded every Vita, PSP, and PS1 game ever made for all regions and backed it up. Some of my favorite games not mentioned in the video: - Dragon's Crown - Hot Shots Golf: World Invitational - Killzone: Mercenary - Muramasa Rebirth - Soul Sacrifice - Toukiden: The Age of Demons - Y's: Memories of Celceta - Y's VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana
Where do you download the ps1 games from? I’m in uk and for some reason there are a total of 7 ps1 games on the ps1 🤨🤔 I remember when there was a full a-z
I'm surprised retro rebound didn't mention that he can delete the game data from the army of corps game after he does that he should be able to get trophies. I bought a few used vita games and that happened to me, deleted the previous data and then I'm able to get trophies on there. And surprised he didn't say to get the 64gb memory card. I have the 32gb and I'm running out of space.
Don’t plays Star Wars Unleashed PSP on vita after playing the game for a while it started crashing ALL my ps1 and psp games I had to reset my vita to default settings and wiped the memory card
I think it was a big miss to not mention first thing that the Vita can now be modded within the stock browser, which more importantly gives access to the ENTIRE Vita game library instantly. Paired with the SD2Vita adaptor which is only like $7 + a decent sized SD card and there is literally no reason to purchase the games unless you want the physical collection explicitly. Otherwise I kind of disagreed with that part of the vid, as the prices for vita games are insane where I am and not at all worth it. There's no way to justify the price of a Vita if you don't even plan on using homebrew, it just doesn't make sense. The cost you would need for buying each game you would want to play + the Vita itself, at that point, just buy a Steam Deck OLED and emulate the Vita on that XD
Last year I put 300 hours into Elden Ring on Ps5 and since then I haven't been able to get back into console gaming. But I modded my old and dusty Vita a few months ago and have only been playing games on the Vita ever since. I'm currently replaying Pokemon Emerald, lol. I really think we are on the verge of a new handheld golden age. With the Steam Deck clocking in around Ps4 power, Switch 2 supposedly as well, there will be software being developed and ported for these specs for years.(The awkward specs of the Vita were the main reason why software support was so hard to get for the Vita) Rising popularity of Android handhelds for emulation purposes also show that there is a lot of demand for handheld right now. So I really hope Sony joins in on this with a handheld, now is the time. The already nailed the form factor with the PsPortal and the Ps4 specs range should be reachable at a reasonable price.
I recently got a PlayStation TV and the only annoying/frustrating aspect for me is in order to transfer save files you MUST use PSPlus Cloud Save transfer or a PS3/4 with remote play transfer. Even if you bring over the memory card from your vita it will not recognize your saves unfortunately.
@@therunawaykid6523it was so ahead of its time, a great device. I'm really happy with what we have and the dedicated fanbase that kept it alive for so long. @@GregoryAlanBaileygamereviews if it isn’t modded you’re paying for games which is fine but also paying for overpriced storage which is not fine imo
Man PS Vita will always be a go to handheld for me. I need to add more to my collection soon!!
I literally just dug my PS Vita out of storage this morning for Steins Gate! I played mine a ton from 2013 to 2018
Some of my favorite experiences on Vita have been vanilla wear games, like Odinsphere, Dragon's Crown, and Muramasa (which is stuck on PSVita and Wii). Those games looked gorgeous on the OLED
Muramasa is my favorite Vanillaware game
Matty you're reading my mind here as someone who got the white and neon yellow as a Japan import a few months ago 😅 Getting to play dragons crown, persona, metal gear HD collection all on this beautifully small device has been a blessing
Who is Matty?
I have been watching you since the fallout 4 days. You are my favorite youtuber ever man thank you for being you.
So is it true that it only lasts 3 hours?
@@armandomorales0921 Not sure which game you’re asking about… I’m still in the middle of Blackgate (I needed a break from a challenging boss fight) but I have played several play throughs of Golden Abyss and don’t remember it being a short game.
Awesome video! I subbed, funny about a week ago I started playing breath of fire 3 on my vita again, such an awesome game!
Killzone Mercenary is my favorite game for the Vita. Sadly the online multiplayer was shut down a couple years ago which I would play all the time. You mentioned in this video that there’s still people playing so maybe it was brought back online if you played it not long ago? That would be a dream come true.
I believe the Killzone's servers were sadly shut down already.
Surprisingly somehow, COD is still online
He said the same about freedom wars. He didn't actually test these games. He didn't do his homework.
@@tingtype0Not only still alive, but somehow thriving…at least in Team Deathmatch anyway
@@morsecode980Cod servers are down for me
@@morsecode980 that's incredible! Is it worth hopping on to get the authentic Vita multiplayer experience?
I just played FF7 on vita for the first time. You can always wirelessly transfer saves to PS3 for that sudo switch experience as well
Fun fact, if you have one you can also transfer the memory card directly from your Vita to the PSTV for another proto Switch style experience.
Thanks men. I honestly just bought one a couple of days ago. I'm just glad I bought one in 2024
where did you find the penguin commercial in the beginning i can’t find it anywhere
Picked one up in its original box recently. In mint condition. I have missed this device.
Just got one myself in the same condition for $250.
I actually got a PS Vita slim blue earlier this year. Even though I don't play it that much, it's so aesthetically pleasing.
I got the metallic red imported from Japan. Did u ever figure out how to switch the x and o buttons?
Hopefully you pick up the criminally underated LBP title for the Vita, has some great niches, and is overall a great entry in the series. Tops the third LBP game easy, for me.
@@LuxuriaU good to know! I do have Little Big Planet for the Vita but haven’t made time to play it yet
It's really strange to see the year go up & up. I remember watching "Is Vita Worth In 2016?" as if it was last week 😅
22:34 Is this how you were playing for the Dissidia video the other day? Smart, that's how I'm also playing it now!
Vita really "living" up to its name in 2024!
Man, I still have my white PS Vita
*Man, seeing you talk about Freedom Wars brought back so many good memories, my friend and I used to spend hours playing that game together
Vita is amazing. You can play Vita, PSP, PS1 games. As well as other retro consoles via emulation
GTA SA PSV FAN PORT 😎
I play my vita almost on daily basis, welcome to the club buddy! got more than 150 physicals and still collecting. This is by far my favourite system and our little community is still supporting it!
21:01 .... Persona 3 and 4 both are PS2 games ported/remade for other systems
The video says that you can play Freedom Wars & Killzone Mercenaries online. I think that's wrong, even at the time the video was posted. Both games have shut down servers. Freedom Wars in 2021, Killzone in 2022.
amazing video!! i loved your coverage of the vita :))
With both a 3.5 mm jack and Bluetooth support, the speaker quality should be a non-factor for anyone looking at a Vita.
Apologies, not trying to be that guy, but ratchet collection absolutely released in NA. I worked at gamestop when the vita released, I was a day one adopter. Also just mod your vita, it's the best handheld made better modded
Since when was Ratchet and Clank trilogy not released in NA? I am literally looking at my copy right now.
Vita is definitely top 5 for handhelds but ahead of the Switch…..not a chance!
I'm really struggling to decide whether i should just buy a Vita or buy a Nintendo Switch Lite instead, for modding
I would say a switch lite as for me I find the vita library too jrpg and Japanese game heavy whereas to me there is more game variety on the switch and some great exclusives like the Zelda games, Pokemon, Mario
@@therunawaykid6523 yeah. 2 weeks ago, I bought Bomb Rush Cyberfunk so i might as well buy the switch lite next month
Soul Sacrifice and Freedom Wars need a return. Toukiden also great glad on ps4. Soul Sacrifice no longer online i dont think tho
Hate the controller grip cover thing I have. I had a handful they just kept breaking as well as the back button attachment is absolutely trash.
Just recently, my vita updated itself while on wifi and then i noticed a lot of the games disappeared and the apps where not loading up. Was it a good idea to leave on wifi??
The PS Vita was ahead of it's time!
Nope.
PSP was. It walked so, PS Vita could run.
Im so glad to hear that the PSN store is up I def wanna cop one soon.
Better hurry. Who knows when Sony is going to close it. Xbox 360 is closing the store at the end of July.
I bought the PS TV to play vita games
I own a vita, bought it when it came out. just prefer playing on the tv.
I played uncharted, supposedly not supported on the ps tv, but it worked, there were a couple spots I had to switch back to the vita to play it. Using cloud save. Not sure if that works now with psn. but.
I'd imagine Vita + PSP + PS1 over HDMI being pretty nice... as long as it's supported by PSTV!
No mention of the Limited Run Games? They supported the Vita quite well.
The most underrated system ever! I love my vita and still play it regularlu
what u play
Vita for life baby!
Still find it ironic that for a console called a vita which means life Sony pretty much killed it but stopping supporting it, still great portable device though still use my oled vita
Unit 13 was my jam. Would always play it while I was at the laundromat lol.
Yeah pretty impressive for a vita launch title
Great video as always Matty. I really appreciate your content
PS Vita is my favourite handheld. I have over 500 games for it and it's my go to when travelling. It's a shame it didn't have stronger support, but there is definitely no shortage of games available for it! Also, who doesn't love trophy hunting while on the go?
500? Wowwww what are your favourite vita games?
Vita is still a great handheld machine. I use mine exclusively to play PSP games on it!
If I could of given you a thousand like I would, thanks for this Vita vid🙏🏾👊🏾
Now, after watching....This might be the cleanest psvita in 2024 video on the internet, if yall know what i mean...
12:33 By the time this video was uploaded, the servers for Killzone have been shut down. RIP 😥
Yeah it’s always a sad time when servers are shut down for games I miss the little big planet online servers
Yeah it’s always sad when games servers are taken offline I’m still sad little big planet can no longer be played with other people online
Just bought a white oled 1001 model off marketplace for 80 bucks canadian. Jumped on it right away, and it's near flawless. It was hacked, but I removed it, I got it for trophy hunting and chill gaming. Loved the video, I'm excited to go game hunting for this thing
Even with my ROG Ally - I find myself always going back to my modded Vita. Emulation, movies, music....online/offline...fits perfectly in your pocket.
You can resolve the trophies issue you had, delete the game by long pressing on the bubble, then reisert the cart and install again.
i bought a vita a little less than a year ago and i’ve been able to beat 20 games that have been sitting in my backlog all during my breaks at work 🙏🏻 thank god for having a job i can be lazy at.
Sounds like a good job, what do you do?
MrMattyPlays? I remember watching you so much before the Fallout 4 release. Unfortunately, I didn't end up playing it all that much because I had so much fun modding New Vegas
You can still get achievements in previously owned games. You install the game by putting in the cartridge. Then you delete the game on the Vita. You pull out the cartridge and put it in again. You install the game again. After that you can earn achievements in that game.
My psvita slim can download 1GB games fairly quick from what i remember but our wifis are trash compared to US,so how come yours took 40 min?
1. God of War Collection
2. Uncharted golden abyss
3. Nfs most wanted.
4. Sly cooper thieves of time.
5. Fifa football.
6. Rugby 15.
7. Batman Lego
8. Batman arkham
9. AC Liberation
Yeah the gyro aiming was perfect for uncharted
The Vita is my favorite handheld. The OLED screen is gorgeous and the fact that you can play PSP and PS1 games on it means it has a massive library. I don't trust Sony to keep the PSN servers operating forever, so I pre-emptively downloaded every Vita, PSP, and PS1 game ever made for all regions and backed it up.
Some of my favorite games not mentioned in the video:
- Dragon's Crown
- Hot Shots Golf: World Invitational
- Killzone: Mercenary
- Muramasa Rebirth
- Soul Sacrifice
- Toukiden: The Age of Demons
- Y's: Memories of Celceta
- Y's VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana
Yeah we are in a great time for gaming 😁😁
I recently got a PlayStation TV and the only annoying/frustrating aspect for me is in order to transfer save files you MUST use PSPlus Cloud Save transfer or a PS3/4 with remote play transfer.
Even if you bring over the memory card from your vita it will not recognize your saves unfortunately.
Luckily i don’t have to because my older brother passed his vita onto me before leaving for the army.
Now that is a good brother😉
Every time I boot up the VITA as I did this morning, I always think I don't play on it enough. Such an underrated system.
Yeah I like my vita but will always think of it as the system Sony just gave up on, it could have been much more
@@therunawaykid6523it was so ahead of its time, a great device. I'm really happy with what we have and the dedicated fanbase that kept it alive for so long. But looking into all the canceled games on the Vita you can really see the wasted potential. It could've been so much more had Sony supported it.
