Collecting for the Saturn pretty much requires picking up Japanese games. I've been happy to add Real Bout Fatal Fury, Vampire Hunter, Puyo Puyo 2, and the first two Panzer Dragoons.
Just the video I needed! Never owned the Saturn, as I was a PS1 guy. I have been keeping an eye open for it but the prices for it in Europe are rising fast.
That's what I like about the Japanese Saturn, you can get a pretty good selection of games for cheap, Darius Gaiden, Layer Section, and Detana TwinBee Deluxe are all shooters I paid under $25.
These are some of my favourite videos. You’re very good at picking out affordable games while still having something interesting to say about them. The limitation of 500 dollars is a fun challenge too!
Nice games for starters, I recently bought a very good Japanese Sega Saturn at an California book off very cheap bc they had no way of testing it. For my starters I pick up puzzle bobble 2, virtual fighter , virtual fighter 2 off eBay for well not so very good deals as ur video but I had to get something lol. Glad to see u started these 50 dollar budget video again keep up the good work.
Amazing video. I love this style of content. I had not heard of the shooter or the racing game previously. Very cool. I know Scruffy has done a few of these also. Both of your channels are fantastic.
Niiiiice, a great collection of games. I've sold a lot of the high dollar games in my Saturn, but some I just can't part with. Battle Garegga, EWJ2, Sengoku Blade 2, just can't let them go.
Saturn JP has been my only retro system I collect/play. I even have the rare MMP 1000 Saturn that still works today. Anyways it’s the best system. Always good too see new pick ups since I’m still missing some great titles.
All of those games looked like great picks! (Special place in my heart for Darkstalkers) I wasn't aware of that Macross title, and it looks like a lot of fun so I'm adding it to the list. I've already got the North American Saturn games that I want, so now I have a list of Japanese Saturn games that I'd like to get to cap things off. Jim, do you pick up games for people on request? Using Yahoo Japan and a shopping/mailing service seems impractical for finding a couple dozen games. Loving the production values in the videos btw (I always love the bgm selections too!), and really glad to see these latest ones and your return!
As of right now I'm mostly only picking up games for the people signed up for my mail service on Patreon. I've got a lot of people there at the moment, can't really handle anything outside of that.
I bought my Sega Saturn at the end of last year, and bought it almost exclusively for RPGs. The Saturn has (arguably) the best versions of Lunar Silver Star Story and Grandia. It also has some really decent remakes of Ys I and II (Sold as “Falcom Classics” I and II). The biggest surprise for me on the system was Panzer Dragoon. Such an awesome game!
some great saturn titles for sure! loved nights back in the day at least now I have it on steam, it's still great! would love a proper sequel although after that disastrous wii sequel and the whole balan wonderworld thing I doubt sega's ever gonna revisit that world. but you never know!
Would have been great to get Macross in the US on Saturn. On another note - a must have game in my opinion for the Saturn is Guardian Heroes. Not sure how much that would cost in Japan, but I loved playing it back in the day and love playing it today.
Great haul for sure! I miss Japan a ton. There's so many games I see in your vids that you pass on that I would have snapped up right away! That Metal Black! Great stuff as always
Normally, I sleep under the stars. But with your money-saving video, I could use the extra funds towards a cabin and spa stay and fluff up my matted fur! Thank you Jim! My quality of life is on an improving gradient!
One of the main things I want to pick up if I ever make it to Japan is a Saturn and a small collection of cheap games. So this video was perfect. Price charting has shown an explosion in JP Saturn prices over the last six months, but the prices you showed today didn’t reflect that increase. Let’s hope this is just one of those times Pricecharting is dead wrong.
Yeah that's true, these prices don't reflect what you'll see online. I'm trying to show people what it's like here in person, the deals that can be had even if you're at a shop in Akiba that's considered to be expensive.
I like these videos, it gives gamehunting more purpose and more insight of the games being picked up. Beside that, it would be great if you could review the Saturn game: Crows: The Battle Action. Also very curious for how much Yen you can pick this title up over there, as the prices on eBay are sky-high for this game at the moment
I thought my Saturn was broken but it turns out my Action Replay to play Japanese games was messing up! I hope there are more videos in the future as the only game I have for the Saturn is Darius Gaiden, so this and hopefully more will come. Thank you!
Great video and it’s also helpful for those who want to start Saturn gaming but they are put off by PAL and NTSC USA pricing. I’m lucky in that I had the system as a teenager in the 90s and didnt sell it so have had a lot of the now daft priced heavy hitters for a while. I would like to say also it’s cool to hear that someone else other than me likes Sega Touring Car. It gets a bad wrap. Love the 90s dance tracks. I do prefer Sega Rally but it’s a real top title. Sega Rally I would recommend the Netlink Japanese edition as they add all the bug fixes from the PAL one and added 3D controller support.
It's not a perfect game sure, but for the price Touring Car is a great starter game for the Saturn. They're both so cheap, might as well just grab a copy of Sega Rally to go along with it.
Great video. I'll have to find that gaming bar the next time I'm down in Tokyo. The only gaming-themed bar I've been to is 8-Bit Cafe. I hate to be "one of those commenters" though, but it's Puyo Puyo, not Poyo Poyo. That's the only thing I can make a suggestion on.
Amazing what you can get in Japan and damn near mint too. Just looked up three of these games on eBay and it’s well over $100 in the US with those crappy tall cases. So jealous.
Great video as always. But how does one get their hands on these sorts of deals? I dont know anyone in japan and all sellers on ebay selling ntsc-j releases of games are asking a ridiculous price. For example Virtua Fighter remix is approx. $40 AU to buy, compared to $10 AU odd for where you got it. Would love to get some Japanese Saturn releases but dont know where to go to find these kinds of prices.
Does the Japanese version of Sega Touring Car perform better? Because everything you said about the game couldn't be any less than the truth. The game struggles to maintain a good framerate and dips to some pretty low performance quite frequently. I'd replace it with Sega Rally for your choices.
I just bought 30 repro games of the most expencive that I could never buy original all for 268 pound instead of 9962 pound. Baically I paid the 2.7% of the original. I know I know they are repro but lots of games are crazy pricy. First Shinrei Jusatsushi Taroumaru that complete with spine the cheapest on ebay is for 1580 pound. Second Super Tempo for 970 pound. After Mizubaku Daibouken for 600 and Hyper Duel for 575 pound ect ect ect
SEGA大好きです👍✨

Nice! All great games and very affordable. 👍
Just the video I needed!

randhrick!
This is my favorite series of yours. Starter collections are a fantastic idea. I’d love to see follow ups like saturn pack part 2, etc.
Definitely planning on it, as well as PS1, PS2, and Dreamcast.
These are some of my favourite videos. You’re very good at picking out affordable games while still having something interesting to say about them. The limitation of 500 dollars is a fun challenge too!
I know it's easy for pessimism to set in when collecting retro games. Just doing what I can to keep people enthusiastic about the hobby.
@@MadPanicGaming Yeah, there are lots of less sought after games that are cool!
Today i played my recently acquired MSX COLLECTION on my SS :D

Wow awesome pick up on a budget 👍 i look forward watching more episodes of this new sega saturn collecting 👍
I look forward as well need to see some more Saturn goodness please!!!
Great commericals as always 😊😊😊
Amazing video. I love this style of content. I had not heard of the shooter or the racing game previously. Very cool. I know Scruffy has done a few of these also. Both of your channels are fantastic.
Yes indeed, Scruffy is a great student of the game.
My saturn collection started with Virtua Fighter 2, Clockwork Knight, and Shinning Wisdom. Only one of which had its case but it was a start!
Loving these "start a game collection" vids Jim, really fun to watch
I got one of my grails: dungeons and dragons a while ago- i had to cop it whatever the price!
Niiiiice, a great collection of games. I've sold a lot of the high dollar games in my Saturn, but some I just can't part with. Battle Garegga, EWJ2, Sengoku Blade 2, just can't let them go.

Definitely digging the make a collection series, great concept!
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching!
That Uri Geller Saturn ad haha... Unexpected!
It's a joy to collect japanese Saturn games compared to US or PAL versions
Cool stuff as always
This is actually a really good video for those that want to collect import sega saturn games without breaking the bank.
I bought my Sega Saturn at the end of last year, and bought it almost exclusively for RPGs. The Saturn has (arguably) the best versions of Lunar Silver Star Story and Grandia. Japan sure has all the best choices. And its in near perfect condition.
Great haul for sure! I miss Japan a ton. There's so many games I see in your vids that you pass on that I would have snapped up right away! That Metal Black! Great stuff as always
Thanks for these, really enjoying this type of video. Helping me fill out my own collections!
Those grazy ads made me always smile :-)
Normally, I sleep under the stars. But with your money-saving video, I could use the extra funds towards a cabin and spa stay and fluff up my matted fur! Thank you Jim! My quality of life is on an improving gradient!
These video game hunting videos are fire!
Much appreciated.
Outstanding hunt! I must say, I doubted you at first but what you picked up has some legit street cred.
Indeed, and I could've grabbed one or two more games and still came in under budget.
I have seen vampire hunter at bookoff stores which sell them at a cheaper price. Virtua fighter 2 is also very common.

No problem. Thanks for watching!
Nights at $8 is so awesome

@@MadPanicGaming it’s great cheap combo. Listen to touring car as a music cd alone is worth it.
great picks! i wish i were in japan.
Hello planning to go Japan for couple weeks do I need to isolate when I get there coming from australia

Please keep me updated. I want to purchase as much Saturn title you got

Got a Saturn for £50 this week this video helps alot
Jim is my guy to come for anything Sega Saturn. He's the best. 8^)
Anthony..
Much appreciated, Anthony.
Great video, I'm curious to see another one similar but based on dreamcast games.
Great video!

700 yen for a big game + neat pristine case, thats awesome.
people would sell it for 300-400 bucks here in states, with worse packaging condition.
my next trip to Japan I'm picking up a CIB Saturn!
What’s the name of that music at the end?
wow that macross look fun
It is indeed, well worth the money.
What was that song that played right after the Sega Saturn commercial?
It's from Battle Mani Daiginjou
How much are Japanese Saturn consoles?
Nice vid, where did you shoot for the last part?
Tokyo Video Gamers in Akihabara
Great video as always! Quick question, if I buy a sega saturn in japan with the games, etc - would it work in the US? Thank you!
Yes! Japan and USA use more or less the same voltage, so you wouldn't need any kind of converter.
@@MadPanicGaming thank you so much!
Great selection, but disappointed at lack of RPGs! Although to be fair, that would have put prices way up probably.
Does the Japanese version of Sega Touring Car perform better? Because everything you said about the game couldn't be any less than the truth. The game struggles to maintain a good framerate and dips to some pretty low performance quite frequently. I'd replace it with Sega Rally for your choices.
Now days I buy retro games for decoration. I can already play them.
Segahh Satuurn shiroo :D
Nice shop , seems much cheaper that super potato
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Just when you thought Sega had peaked with the Japanese Saturn, they followed it up with the Dreamcast.
