There was a guy on eBay selling a box of 100 PS1 Japanese games for $50 a few years ago, free shipping too, but took four months to arrive as it came by boat. I bought one, loads were old Hard:Off stock, I had like five copies of Aquanauts Holiday, three Ridge Racers and bizarrely a copy of Final Fantasy 8 where the third disc was a pirate copy of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith! (not a joke) Oh, Intelligent Cube Final was released in Europe as Kurumi Final, I've got a copy, well an a Blockbuster ex-rental one. The original came out on PS5 this week too!
Yeah, there's plenty of Hard Off junk you can get for almost nothing, then flip it online, if one were so inclined. Ah, I was not aware IQ Final had an international release. I wonder why they'd change the title though.
@@MadPanicGaming I'm honestly slightly more interested in visiting Hard Off "junk" sections if I ever get to go to Japan vs regular shops now thanks to your vids lol. Don't get me wrong, I wanna see lots of shops, but there seems to be alot of gaming (and non- gaming) goodness at these places :)
I can’t get enough of this video series. Absolutely fantastic. Especially with seven games this time. Those Japanese exclusives seem awesome for sure. Strange to say I’m excited to check out a golf game. You are a treasure in the gaming community Jim. My favorite overseas channel as well. Thanks so much man.
After playing Hot Shots 2 I actually came to like golf games quite a lot, very relaxing games to play. Recently, I've been enjoying Marion Golf Super Rush on Switch.
This is definitively my favorite video series from this channel! And even better: Starting the collection with Rockman X4! That clearly tells us that Jim is a man of culture.
These videos are always great, Jim! I imported a JP PS1 just over a year ago and exploring the library is so much fun-the PS1 is my favorite console so it felt natural to explore the Japanese side of it. Thank you for these recommendations!
Thanks so much for this great insight Jim! Retro gaming is so rife with stories of people shelling out ridiculous amounts for games that aren't even that great, just to complete the full set or boast about only getting the first print run or whatever. Your approach is so refreshingly authentic, and I feel like it brings things back to basics - hunting for games to play and enjoy rather than just for the sake of collecting. Thanks for brightening our collective day!
I remember playing IQ (or Kurushi Final as it was called in Europe) on a demo disc back in the day. Was never into puzzle games at that time, but that game definitely got me hooked on it.
Jim, I can’t thank you enough. I have been treated by your recommendations for a variety of games / consoles. I’m actually here in Japan watching your videos to get the best bang for my buck. Hoping to find a N64 at a decent price. Once again thank you and keep doing your thing.
I'm closing in on all the games I want for the PS1. Recently regrabbed Destruction Derby and toshinden, now just need need FFT, Re1, Alien Trilogy, Loaded, ESPN Xtreme games and the 2 Castlevanias. Not cheap but hey
Hey! Appreciated the video for multiple reasons, but, possibly mostly because you jolted my memory of walking through Akiba and Super Potato. But, if you don't mind me asking, how is it that you ended up in Japan and where were you living previously? Sorry if this was already discussed in a previous video. This is the first time I've seen your channel and watched one of your videos. Thanks again!
yeah what I understand super potato is 'hard mode' for this challenge, but looks like you came out ahead! surprised to see Hot Shots Golf 2 for 81 cents! surprised to not see any fighters but I definitely would've looked for toshinden! one of the first PSX games I ever owned the soundtrack was pretty top tier stuff.
Yeah, oddly enough there weren't many fighter. I was especially surprised to not see any Capcom fighters. They did have Battle Arena Toshinden and I think Tekken 2 and 3, but that's about it.
What's the name of the track you have playing while back in your apartment going over the pick ups for the day? It's very pleasant and I have never bothered to ask for some reason
I've really started thinking lately that I really wished I lived in a Japan. I primarily collect for PS1 and mostly RPGs on top of that. Prices are definitely more appealing in Japan.... XD
not the first time that the title featured in this series that interested me the most was the macross one, really wish I had a copy back in the day, looks like it's my kind of fun... coincidence or am I a macross fan and I don't know...
I recently bought a loose US PS1 I really missed the games there so I bought the exclusives first got every Twisted Metal, Dino Crisis and Tekken yet to grab Final Fantasy and Crash Bandicoot and Spyro but the prices are much more than a brand new PS5 game I recently purchased a Japan PSone nice timing with the upload
Not to be rude but, I enjoyed the channel a lot more when you used to explore different hard offs and showed us other parts of tokyo or the surrounding area. It feels like every one of your game hunting videos is going to Akiba. Akiba is cool and all but not what first attracted me to your channel 7 years ago. It's getting a bit stale if I'm being perfectly honest. Maybe those hard off hunting videos don't fit into your lifestyle anymore and I get that but in my humble opinion it would be cool to see more variety. Your channel just feels like a vehicle for your patreon shopping tier at this point. (Kudos to you for actually thinking of something unique in that regard)
Yeah, I've been spending a lot of time in Akiba recently, mostly because it's close to home and my free time has been pretty limited these days. I'll be doing some more Hard Off runs later this year though.
You gotta travel far out to hit some of the Hard Offs that have a lot of stuff. The Tokyo area is pretty big, and Hard Offs aren't usually near stations, so you need a car or they are a hike from the station. Also, more and more are carrying less retro games. My local one has gone from 2 aisles (Many different systems) to just 2 shelves (mostly just SFC & FC now) in the past 18 months.

I love these videos Jim. Thanks for keeping my import spirit alive.
My pleasure 👍

I would literally spend days shopping through one of those stores! My wallet would also divorce me. Great video as always!

Indeed, Rockman X4 is a gentleman's game.

My pleasure, thanks for watching. The PS1 is really a treasure trove for Japanese games.
Rockman X4 is my f**kin jam dude
Mine too, one of my all time favorite platformers.

my new favorite retro gaming channel, so entertaining to watch!
Looking forward to your $50 Neo Geo AES challenge 😀
I laugh now, but over ten years ago I was picking up AES games at Hard Off for about $5 each.
I’d pick up a copy of Gradius Gaiden. Which could all by itself use up the $50 budget, but worth it :)
Great pickups and really enjoying this series.
one of my favourite consoles to collect for the other two being PS2 and Sega Dreamfast
Really well selected games! This is my favorite series right now for sure.
Great PS1 pickups! In these days finding PS1 games in the wild is much rarer than before.
Great video once again. Thanks Jim
What is the actual condition of those games/disks? When you pick them up, they look like brand new. :O
These games were in really good condition, but they do have labels on the front letting you know if there's any damage to the game, manual, or case.

Such a great series 👏 Thank you!
Retro Gaming movie was FINALLY added to Tubi and I watched it. How does it feel to go Hollywood?
What's the name of the track you have playing while back in your apartment going over the pick ups for the day? It's very pleasant and I have never bothered to ask for some reason
It's the Aqua Man stage theme from Mega Man 8.
@@MadPanicGaming thank you
Very good video mate ! Thanks 🙏
I've really started thinking lately that I really wished I lived in a Japan. I primarily collect for PS1 and mostly RPGs on top of that. Prices are definitely more appealing in Japan.... XD
That's for sure, RPGs are typically super cheap here with few exceptions.
youre living people's dream, Jim!
the only Japanese disc I own is Choro Q 2, a parting gift from my uncle shortly before he passed away.
Very cool Playstation 1 games Jim I still play my PS 1 games still very enjoyable 👍👍🆒🆒
How much does Kitchen Panic go for these days?
Hmm, haven't seen that one in a while, not sure. Used to be pretty cheap though.

What's the name of the song at the end?
The track is called Burning Storm, and it's from the Psychic Force soundtrack.

you should try neo turf master its a fun golf game
Awesome stuff, are japanese used ps1 games generally in good condition at retro game camp in akibhara? I wanna pick up some games from there
Jim, have you seen parasite eve 1 and 2 on that shop? So it's cheaper? The US version was jack off the price which is insane.
Rockman 8 and Rockman X4! My must have from the PS 1 era...
Is the PS3 /PS1 region free?
The PS3 is but not the PS1.
great video, I watch your videos in VR, but with VR I can't comment on anyone's video, so i comment on my tablet 😀 👍
I'm guessing these videos are getting a lot easier given that the Yen is going down so much relative to the U.S Dollar haha.
I was hoping there was a fighting game included, maybe tekken as I know the Capcom fighting games are not that cheap
Actually, you might be surprised how cheap games like Rival Schools and Street Fighter Zero 2 sill are. Both are usually under $10.
These imports are so cheap compared to American prices
i am japanese welcome to Japan! Are Japanese retro games interesting? I also introduce games.
🔥🔥🔥🔥
Most expensive in Japan, most inexpensive in the US lol.
I want harmful park.
My mate found it in Japan for me for $150 in 2016
Lol, I'd like a copy myself but I've unfortunately got bills to pay.
