The color scheme based on seniority fits perfectly with bears as well! So good!! If it's black - Fight back If it's brown - Lay down If it's white - Good night
I really enjoyed hearing your process of building your chapter. I love homebrews/custom chapters and the freedom that they give you to be creative. Can't wait to see these guys get built out into different units types too, the different colour schemes for referencing their rank sounds cool!
I hate to be the BEARer of bad news but... I cant bear it anymore! The only thing that made it bearable was the bear puns. Imma actually stop this is cringe.
I'm not even a person who's been into miniatures, but I love seeing the passion behind your work and gets me really interested. Even if I don't dabble myself
Love the concept of different colours for different troop types, you could even do different bears for each level of troops. With polar being the most dangerous so they are your cream leaders
I love the idea of elites going for the cream armor, especially if the elites also have more fur to balance it out. The fur becomes the grit element, while the armor carries a royal feel. Maybe even try purple eyes for those troops rather than red, so they're a bit closer to the base blue while also keeping some heat and adding some royalty.
Just saw this in my feed. Thank you for sharing your hobby journey. I am way deeper into Age of Sigmar rather than 40k, but I love seeing content like this from the heart. This video has inspired me as a format to best talk about my nearly 2 year journey in making what is now a homebrew Lumineth Elves army. It will be my first ever UA-cam video. Thanks again for sharing, and happy hobbying with the rest of your Space Marines force. It is truly a labor of love.
The hair and beard on the captain fits the hibernation lore, siting in a cave for a few hundred years, the beard growth, and he looks like a caveman too lol, love the chapter result, glad you took your time
I know you don't necessarily want them to be too close to the space wolves but from a lore standpoint it'd make a lot of sense from them to be a Primaris space marine sub chapter whose gene seed mutated from making them wolf like to bear like instead. It'd also make sense with why they are so much bigger than the average space marine. You could also make your chapter master wear full white to mimic the polar bear, the strongest and biggest of all bears
i like the hibernation because i think space marines do have that ability when they are badly wounded so maybe a genetic mutation allows them more control. great work all around
Please do a video on the digital colour selection process, as I simply can't afford to use the trial and error approach on lots of different minis. Also, I know you mentioned it briefly here, but I'd be really interested to here your opinion on Krita. Awesome video!
I did this for my Palanites on Photoshop: all you have todo is use the Vector tool, select the different areas of the armour, then turn them into different layers. Then each and every layer you can colour differently. It’s pretty simple, don’t know why he offered to do a video on it, it’s gonna have to be sooooooo stretched out if he wanted it to be 10-20 minutes.
Absolutely amazing! I can’t wait to see where this army goes and I love the idea of the different colored armor depending on the troops. Would love a conversion guide.
When you said they hibernate, that's when the chains made sense to me. Like dreadnoughts, they can be chained to a wall while they sleep on long journeys across the galaxy.
Excellent vid! You fully explained where you were coming from and didn't make it the standard 10-minute-for-two-ads UA-cam format. Your passion shines through in an explanation which made me feel your enthusiasm!
I'm very invested in the Space Bears, seeing how they turn out, the types of units, their colour schemes, and their design for each of the units and roles. They look amazing.
man Jazza, I used to be into art when I was a lot younger, and loved your channel. now the highschool me obsessed with warhammer, i didnt even knew you painted models! Awesome to enjoy your content again, you didnt change at all, and I mean that in a great way!
They look great! As an art teacher who runs a school Warhammer club, this is great to show the process and not to rush into decision making. So cool to see it evolve. Looking forward to the rest of the army!!
I'm glad you decided to keep the cream armor in some way, it's beautiful. That first cream model made me question my entire space marine army it was so crisp. I assume you are going to add fur boots to the leaders to counteract the perceived model imbalance? I excitedly await your next primursa update video!
The process was compelling, but your flavour text hit different. Recognizing childhood nostalgias influence on the design, and especially the idea of brighter shades for the elites. Black, to brown grizzly to cream polar bear, and drop bears are an instant classic. Good stuff.
Now I want to Shad raise up his own Space Marine Chapter painted up like medieval knights with astra militarum painted and kitbashed as levies to go head to head against the Astra Primursa.
Jazza you continue to inspire the hell outta me and always surprise me while doing so. I hope I can be a creator like you someday, I really love seeing my boy doing something he loves. You can’t tell me this man isn’t having a blast and this has got to be the most creative and pumped I’ve ever seen him and I love it. It gives me drive and that energy to tackle my own stuff. Rock the hell on Jazza. I loveeee the designs as usual.
Six months is a pretty quick pace to design a homebrew chapter you really love. I've been painting pretty consistently for 15 years and only last year found MY chapter design, the Angels Errant. Subscribing, and looking forward to seeing more!
Jazza I really wanna see what you can do with a set of McFarlane Warhammer 40K 7" figures. I'm a huge figure fan and I've seen what you can do with the tiny ones so I wanna see what you can do to a action figure without killing the "action" part
The last 5 seconds of the video are everything. That little moment explains how much this hobby means to us. It can take us back to such a care free time. Thank you for keeping that in!
Great natural speaking and pleasant voice. Great content as well. I don’t do converting myself, heck I don’t even do painting, but still love to watch this channel. Also great how you always try to challenge yourself with every new project.
As someone now inspired by watching all the new and old Astra Primursa videos, I'm rebuilding my old (from 2010~) Chapter lore into something a bit more thought out than teenage me was capable of, but still keeping that youthful silliness. As a Victorian, Bomber's were my second favourite team, behind the Cats.
super cool to see the process here. I'm always torn between painting the incredible models as they are, or cannibalising and going for something unique.
They look amazing I am just getting back into warhammer 40k myself and you have inspired me to create my own space marine chapter. Can't wait to see your next video. Keep up the great work.
I honestly think you’d really like making custom Lego minifigures Jazza. If you’re into painting/ sculpting miniatures, there’s an entire community of people who make custom minifigures that are insanely detailed and look really cool. I feel like you’d really enjoy doing at least one, seems right up your alley and it’s really fun (speaking from experience).
This, this is why I come to this channel. I love the creativity that this channel brings with its 40 000 content. It has its own niche and brings something else to the table. I'm looking forward to see more in the future. I'm so happy that there are so many different channels bringing different kinds of knowledge and content. Instead of the same kind over and over. Great video.
I am so jealous. I personally am still in the process of creating my custom chapter (though that’s more lore wise and drawing cuz I can’t paint a model to save my life)
that photo shop trick is AWESOME, please do make a video on it. This video has been a ride, thank you for sharing all you've learned. This makes me super exited to try some of this stuff out!!!!!
love warhammer and brand new to painting minis ive been binging ttt while i paint and ive just been getting really into it. seeing your process with your chapter has been awesome and inspiring.
Really cool to see and hear that you had so much fun with this. It was almost 2 decades before I finally settled on a completed paint scheme and chapter name / story. It's been evolving through my entire time in the hobby to the point where they feel very much a part of me and my love of the game. :D Now just gotta grind through painting about 15k points worth of marines. XD I finalized my scheme last year and I'm about 25% dome my army at this point. Long ways to go yet, but having so much fun with it.
changing the eyes from red to blue is the design choice i agree most with for some reason. bright blue contrasts beautifully with grimy red and it's one of my favorite color combinations.
This is really sick. I’d never even thought about making my own chapter until this (I’m new). I’d love a video on their lore and dome more advanced units!
I love the detail of the white paw on the knee of the mini at the 5 minute mark. Feel like this could be their crest or something like that. Should be featured on every armour.
Chapter master Yogi! Flamer unit with Smokey the bear squad leader with the drill instructor campaign cover/hat. Monsters of the (midway) “insert home planet here” from the Chicago Bears! So many fun directions and options to take this! Love it! I’ve gotten bored with my heresy armor style spacewolves and a custom chapter may be just what I need to respark my interest. Again love what you did here!
Love it. Reminds me of the early days of WH40K where building your own chapters rather than slavishly following the painting guides on the back of the box was much more encouraged. Awesome job. Very inspiring.
Thank you for sharing that whole journey, was fantastic to see the whole process and the part that clicked for me was the lore description you gave at the end. The idea of a ship of Primursa, in orbit around a planet but the ship running dark and all of them in the sus an membrane sleep whilst they wait, or in caves or natural hides on a planet until that moment comes and the activation signal is sent and with a deep rumble a whole chapter marches to war! The colour schemes as well made me think more of stone/natural colours, reflecting the fact that this stone statue could be in a cave for months, natives think that its some statues of war gods and then the eye's light up one day and these statues march out to war!
I reckon keeping the cream for elite and having the brown inbetween is a genius idea. The black look is really cool but I really loved how unique the cream looked, so I look forward to seeing how dynamic and fleshed out this level of variation will make the chapter. Super excited to watch the progress on this.
Wow Vid and concept. This vid was such a roller coaster for me. Instantly loved the idea of the Space Bears and the direction you were going for the first part. I was with you up to the Cream armor. Up till than I felt the first mini was the best of the 3 and felt they should be darker color not brighter for the armor. Than you said you were going with charcoal and I was right back with you. But the reveal of the painted mini looked too bright. Almost a dark blue tint and very shiny. But I had forgotten about the grim! That completely fixed the look for me and gave it that Dark background that really makes the Red and Gold pop to what the eye is drawn to first. Great job and I am now subbed to see more of this chapter. As a Dark Angels player, love the concept of the 3 colors for the chapter too.
I liked all the models, it's like we're seeing the evolution of this group of marines over time, from their normal armor little by little adhering to bear skins and then a total new armor at the end.
When Jazza speaks anything that has to do directly with the 40K TTG it is like a foreign language. But when he talks about the art processes I can't help but soak it in.
10/10: Bravo, good sir. This is one of those moments where I'm physically mad that somebody beat me to an idea such as this. You've created such a beautiful and original idea.
I like both color schemes. Your idea of giving higher ranking marines the light color scheme is a great one! It gives an easily identifiable oversight when you use them for a wargame. The power fist should be just a massive bear paw that crackles with electricity.
Absolutely awesome work. I love the idea of varying the armors colour between ranks. Also as someone who got into customizing models quite recently the idea of a "baseline" i think will help me out. You want every model to feel special and look awesome, but if you leave yourself nowhere to go all of them might feel kinda the same.
On another note. Astra Primursa looks awesome. And yes it's a lot of fun to play around with and customize Space Marines! While not a custom chapter I did a similar thing for my Minotaurs, adding custom heads/head plumes, shoulders, sculpting capes etc. To really lean into the Spartan aesthetic their special characters have :D
I absolutely love the customisation of miniatures that you do! Could you please do a video showing how its done and show us your process :) Your space bears look epic!!!
The color scheme based on seniority fits perfectly with bears as well! So good!!
If it's black - Fight back
If it's brown - Lay down
If it's white - Good night
definitely needs to make the HQ leaders polar bear inspired.
I think we got the Chapter battlecry right there.
Berries and Bells.
What about cave bears?
If it’s blue - WHY ARE THE ULTRAMARINES COMING FOR YOU?!?
I would LOVE to see space bear terminators, chaplains, and dreadnoughts

Space Bear Intimidator chaplain but he has a bear head

Pete The Wargamer x Tabletop Time collab?

It could go black bear, grizzly bear, and polar bear. Based on different dangerousness.

So your best advice in creating an original unit would be to stick to the Bear essentials and keep your Bearings with your idea!!

10/10: Bravo, good sir. This is one of those moments where I'm physically mad that somebody beat me to an idea such as this. You've created such a beautiful and original idea.
Really happy to see how this turned out Jazza. I would love to see more 40k videos from you.
I like both color schemes. Your idea of giving higher ranking marines the light color scheme is a great one! It gives an easily identifiable oversight when you use them for a wargame. The power fist should be just a massive bear paw that crackles with electricity.
Such a great concept for a chapter! I really hope that the chapter master commands a huge bear at his side!
MASTERFUL idea using photoshop to test colors on the miniatures! Have never thought of that! So cool!
Totally brilliant! Looking forward to seeing more of the SPACE BEARS!!
+++ ROAR FOR THE EMPEROR +++
On another note. Astra Primursa looks awesome. And yes it's a lot of fun to play around with and customize Space Marines! While not a custom chapter I did a similar thing for my Minotaurs, adding custom heads/head plumes, shoulders, sculpting capes etc. To really lean into the Spartan aesthetic their special characters have :D
Wonderful. I love how you take a silly concept like Space Bears and make it cool and grimdark. Reminds me of what forge world did to the space sharks
I absolutely love the customisation of miniatures that you do! Could you please do a video showing how its done and show us your process :) Your space bears look epic!!!
I'm amazed at how much detail people can get painting on such small models.
Thanks Jazza, awesome content. Really nice seeing you deep into it.
Love it. I really love how distinct you managed to keep them from the Space Wolves.
