We have a member of the Ojibwe tribe in our GURPS group, and he loves the space wolves. I showed him some of these videos and he pointed out that bears are not the only significant animal to the tribe. Wolves and other animals and even weather patterns are important. Mind you this was a bit of a tangent to another conversation so we didn't get in depth details at the time. Either way this in itself is kind of a neat point to give you more to play with for that specific tribe, unless. In either case you could have a unit more designed towards wolves which keeps to the tribes culture and is a call back to the parent chapter these marines come from. Nothing that would dominate the whole of the chapter, cause there's a theme going on here, but something small to have that neat effect. It's a bit of the old presented in a way that kind of brings it back as almost feeling new.
Honorific names to some long fangs that serve with them. Some space Wolves seconded to the chapter to ensure their primaris gene stock is "up to snuff" - lots of fun angles to go!!
First off, not Ojibwe, can't even confirm if I'm Metis. But I had an idea for a name, inspired by the feathers on his shoulder piece and in his hair. How about Binishii? It means "Bird", and I was thinking maybe it could be expanded into a two part name, "Dancing Bird". If Binishii is from a section of new recruits that are Ojibwe, I imagine they still have some cultural elements of the Ojibwe on their home planet. I imagine young Binishii, as a child, liked to run around chasing birds, until one day he got pecked at! So the name "Dancing Bird" got tacked onto him as a teasing name - but over time, it just became his common name, and became a mark of pride. They say, once he joins the Space Bears, that he's blessed by the very birds he used to play with, able to get an bird's eye view of the battlefield so he could assist those in need. Maybe there's even some backstory where this very thing happens. (He might be slightly touched by the warp?) Obviously rely on others' ideas for names because I'm legit just spitballing here. As for the story, feel free to use it if it's interesting. Maybe I'll use it for a project of my own, lol.
If "Dancing Bird" would be his name he HAS to have a jump pack. An expert at using his pack to move about the battlefield and take advantageous positions while also working as an elite scout unit for his team.
The title of the apothecary should be “Den Master”. I think it would unique but it could also be weaved into the lore, like the Chapter Master is in charge of the army’s and fleets but the Chief Apothecary(The Den Master) is in Charge of the chapter fortress
Yeah, for sure the chapter master was awesome and it’s kinda sad they haven’t done anything with it. Maybe jazza isn’t confident in his skills enough to paint it? I felt the same thing when attempting high marshal helbrect for my Templars
From a recent Iroquois discovery the name: "Kan Awake Running" would be a great multiple reference name, but if you truly want the apothecary to be more Iroquois like, Beads, the wampum. And before you ask, 1/8 to 1/4 from after the 7 arrow nation.
This is actually one of the single coolest 40k characters I have EVER seen. I LOVE that comment about how her drawing ended up creating a model that was really "out of the box." This doesn't just look like your classic clunky space marine (love em to death of course), it looks like a REAL person in a WARM-looking outfit, and it just works so perfectly in the snow. The expression is awesome, the pose is stoic and cool. It's all so grounded and has SO much character. One model seriously tells a story. Awesome
One thing that I've found works great for a lot of things with greenstuff and milliput is to have a little bit of vegetable oil that I can put on tools and fingertips while working with it for sculpting there. And you need the obligatory file from Chaos Gate "APOTHECARY! I'VE BEEN WOUNDED!"
That's crazy how well you were able to follow Alysha's design! Those pieces are teeny, but as soon as it was primed, everything looked like thats how came out of box! Your sculpting is a lot of fun to watch!
Being Canadian I can't help but notice that the snow basing is... less than convincing. However you totally nailed the fact that snow season not only does not preclude but in fact emphasizes the grime accumulated on anything outdoors. Well done! As for a name, I'm not even remotely native so I can't help that way, but running off basic word association one of the first names that came to mind was Yogi. Yeah, it's cheesy & obvious, but once I ran w/ Yogi + medic... Boo Boo kinda seemed like a natural win to me :D
Amazing model Dave and Murray that paint job might be my favourite you’ve done. I don’t know how you do it I am never impressed at first then all of a sudden it’s incredible! You’re a magician!
My thought was that he was a close combat expert, killed with surgical precision and was promoted to a care bear as he had memorized the anatomy and gene seed placements to make his killing more effective as he was trained originally as a CSM hunter. As for name maybe translated as "give and take"
My only critique for your space bears is that they're all BROWN. You could make ones with black bear pelts, polar bear pelts, sloth bear pelts, and, if you have the testicular fortitude, PANDA pelts.
Challenge accepted. We need a name for the panda pelt warriors. Eliminator snipers with panda pelt cloaks ... Striking from cover and hidden locations... The Bamboozlers?

Searching for native names, I found WAHCHINTONKA, in the Sioux language, whose meaning is "Has Much Practice". I am not at all an expert, and I just read stuff online (so, please, feel free to correct me if I say something wrong or incorrect), but, apparently, in Native American cultures the name is chosen according to one's spirit and often changes more than once in a lifetime. If an important event and a particular situation occurred during life, the tribal chief and sometimes the shaman could change the name giving a more appropriate meaning. So I think it could be a quite nice name for a person who has medical skills, especially after what I presume to be a long training and studying process to be proficient on the battlefield. Another interesting name could be WAABAKWA, meaning "Polar Bear" in Ojibwe language, or MATOSKAH, always in Sioux language, which means: "White Bear". Following the previous logic, the name could refer to his white armour, as a sort of distinctive and introjected trait. I also found some names related to bears in different american native languages and cultures. I write them down so that you can possibly use them for other characters if you find them suitable and making sense. MUKWOH/MAKWA (Ojibwe) = "Bear" HONON (Miwok) = "Bear" SEWATI (Miwok) = "Curved Claw Bear" SIKYAHONAW (Hopi) = "Yellow Bear" KURUK (Pawnee) = "Bear' LIWANU (Miwok) = "Bear Growl" MACHK (Algonquian) = "Bear" MANTOTOHPA (Cheyenne) = "Four Bears" NITA (Choctaw) = " Bear" -> So, this one is a female name, so it could be nice to use it if you ever plan to make a female Space Bear character, which could be awesome, imho.

For a couple thousands years, that eagle has been the symbol of many empires, many of which engaged in the genocide of native americans. I suppose this is the sort of irony and contradiction that is faced by many today (and likely in the future), reconciling that history.
However, the eagle is as sacred in places in the Americas as it is in places in Europe. In the US, only tribal members are legally permitted to collect, use, or sell feathers or other parts from (endangered) eagles. Not even if you find a feather that fell to the ground.
Shkaabewis is a male Objiwe name meaning something like "helper", and in some translations even specifically "helper of medicine people".
