Murray is out of control...it's insane how one second it looks like smeared madness, and then all of a sudden it's a dynamic, flowing, and intentional paint job. Well done, guys!
murray is legit the best miniature painter on youtube. said it since his first appearance on this channel. he has his own style but he kills whatever he attempts.
The man is a lunatic, his minis are just... insane. For like, 90% of the paint job Its like looking at an old, well used pallete covered in paints, and then suddenly boom, absolutely Godlike paint job. I have no idea how he does it.
Murray’s intuitive grasp of colour and light is always impressive, but his ability to explain his process in plain terms is _astonishing._ That’s yer classic “artist’s artist” moxie right there.
It is so heartening to hear that Jazza has been able to break back into having personal minis hobby time again, and enjoying it. I was worried that when he had to step away from on-screen involvement with Tabletop Time, he'd not be able to do so, which made me a bit sad. But seeing Osun finally painted up was delightful and kinda heartwarming, I loved hearing Jazza talk about his process and thoughts. The passion is infectious. (And that hobby box is absolutely genius, best I've seen. I don't have a personal need, but hot damn if that isn't an ideal solution for a lot of people.) And Murray's mini was of course incredible. I guess I'll have to give that style a go, even though I'm terrified.
You should design the diorama so that the chapter masters base slots into it. That way you get to bring him to the table and have a neat diorama. Because why would purposely force your super special and awesome chapter to be stuck on a shelf? Let him stretch his feet and crush the enemies of the Emperor.
Why not use the base he is on to integrate it into the diorama? Like the Horus Heresy Character Series, so you can have him in the diorama, and just take him out if you wish to play with him. Just throwing it out there
I've been building both Catachan and Kroot units lately and kinda feel like teaming them up against a bigger enemy in a diorama, wouldn't the bases leave a gap if you sink them into the ground since they're a bit smaller on top?
I'm also on board with this idea, I was thinking about the ForgeWorld Horus Heresy heroes that have a 'playable base' that integrates into a display base. Go for it!
@@TrashbashMan That is the case if you don't touch the bases of your minis, but with the "strategic rock" placing and plant tufts you can hide those seams. Take a look at the Horus heresy characters and get inspiration on how they hide the smaller base inside the scenic base. I gave heresy Ahriman such a scenic base and the playable base is hidden
I think the saying is "the ideas in your mind are 5 years ahead of the skill of your hands." or something like that. I've stunlocked myself with painters block on both indomitus And leviathan so I can understand your plight, Jazza.
Never seen murrays work before, reminds me of bob ross when he adds bright yellow on a dark snowy landscape and im like "hes ruined it" then 10 seconds later it fits perfect
man i used to watch you when i was younger when you were making the drawing prompt app and i just discovered this channel a bit ago when i wanted to go more in depth with this hobby now that im an adult and have money and you popping up was a blast from the past. The mini looks amazing and im glad to say you've inspired me as a kid and now your back to inspire me as an adult. thanks man
that carry case is very cool. I don't think I need one, but if I did, it sure looks like it answers basically all my needs! And both those versions look great. I am excited for this "Using Streaking Grime Responsibly" Jazza, and that lighting in Murray's version is So Damn Good
I remeber when you first made the hobby box and the various versions you went through. I'll say what I said back then. Depending on affordability, I'm quite interested in this box. I've got a bunch of D&D minis I need to paint but I've got no idea where to start or how to oraginze my setup. This would give me a great starting point. My minis have gone unpainted all these years because I've got no idea where to start and I really don't want to mess things up.
Jazza - man I feel the "I can't paint this yet, it needs to be perfect!" With a mini. I bought the mega mini box when they first released, and I've been so scared of the apocalypse ghost ever since! The bravest I've gotten is to just opening the box haha! I'm really really glad you've painted him, he really looks stunning! I'm really excited to see its finalized dioramma! It's always really cool to see how much you guys have grown within the years of TTT! You're the reason I've gotten into mini painting! And yes yes YES to the hobby box!! I've wanted one since you showed it on the vlog! I live in a dorm and my laptop takes up half my desk, so the set up and tear down of mini painting deters me from it more often than it should. I would L O V E one!! Murray - holy GOD that was absolutely mesmerizing to watch. You make that style look completely effortless! It's so eye catching and just beautiful! I had genuine fun watching you paint him, and oh my gosh I need yo get brave enough to at least TRY it! Having a model looking like that on my shelf would be a massive accomplishment!
As I try to become a teacher in Canada, I’ve become familiar with the first peoples principles of learning. Seeing you incorporate those into your art and knowing that you’ve collaborated with indigenous groups with respect brings untold joy to my heart. Thank you for taking the time to ensure a respectful practice. ❤
I definitely think that the hobby box is a great idea. I travel for a living and often my army sits at my desk waiting to be painted. Its been 2 years now and i still havent finished my blood angels army. the few times i have considered taking them with me and painting say, at the hotel, ive had logistics issues of "how do i move the paints, minis, etc and keep them in one piece?"
Seeing Murray's flame affect was so inspiring. I was never brave enough to try to highlight models. I was always content to add the shading then I finished. However seeing that flame effect and Murray's description of freestyle was really inspiring
I’m so sad. I missed the kickstarter 😢. The Space Bears is what got me into Warhammer, but I haven’t been taking the full leap because I have no one to play with. I’m so happy that you made all of your goals for the kickstarter!!
Now that the Space Bears Chapter has been essentially completed, you MUST start the next step. After all, what good are soldiers without enemies to kill?! I challenge you to create a customized archenemy or rival that compliments the Space Bears lore you're building!!
Jazza... I stared at this comment section for a bit to find the right words, but the words fail me to a point to describe how good this model looks. You following your heart and giving serious thought to the color choices that mean something to your theme, and to the idea for your chapter master is beyond inspiring. I wish I could like this video more then once man. Fantastic labor of true artistry and love for the hobby and your personal army... Its a thing of true beauty and awesomeness. Never give up
This model looks insane! I'm very new to this hobby and I'm very much addicted to the painting process! Grabbed a chaos marine killteam to start off and im all in. Just finished painting Angron and it's some of the most fun I've had just locking myself in a room and painting for hours.
That portable paint station is a brilliant idea. I travel for work and like to take my painting stuff with me. That carry station would be the answer to my prayers!!
These both turned out absolutely incredible!! I loved seeing Jazza's passion for the space bears and for bringing his unique and specific vision to life, and then it was also fantastic to see the same character done in a completely different way and different style by Murray! So neat to see how each of you tackled it.
Loved the chaptermaster models. Re: The hobby box. If you decide to go into production, maybe offer both wood and plastic with appropriate price points. (If I needed one, I'd personally go for the wood.) Could you also offer printng/laser files for a cheaper price for those who have laser cutter/printers/CNC machines (and would like to make one in other materials (i.e. Perspex?)).
This video was worth the wait. I’m proud of Jazza for enjoying the space bears how they started, as his own little passion project. I’m also really impressed with Murray, honestly one of the most unique, and also best end results I have ever seen. I will definitely be using this method soon.
It was kind of a throwaway comment, but it was cool to hear Jazza mention painting Marvel Crisis Protocol! My husband used to play, but got really frustrated with the painting process. That would be something cool to see on the channel - I know the principles are the same, but a little variety in the types of models the team paints is always fun to see 😊
Both models came out amazing. Jazza your model looks amazing how you painted him and the way you brought all the colours together as it fits well as he is the chapter master. Murray yours came out amazing as well. The 3D print model looks great as well. The way you did the layers and colours as well to the light warmth form the front below the rock to the cool darker behind him. Edit: Oh my god My comment is there. :o
Know the feeling Jazza, I've painted a lot less then I should (and not all for lack of time) for the other reasons given, so I procrastinate a lot, glad you have it painted and it comes out nicely and excellent job and convenience on the hobby box Murray's painting is fantastic
I NEED Jazza's Hobby Box! That is amazing~~ Both minis are fantastic, but WOW, I really like Murray's painting style! I don't paint minis, but I like to paint, and been wanting to try gouache. I think his art style tips would lend well to my experimenting with gouache 😊
Honestly I would love a hobby box like that, I sorta diy'd my own out of a plastic hobby store paint supply case, but that was a painful process to tear apart and make work the way I wanted it to and it still doesn't properly fit a lot of the stuff I want it to in a neat way. I don't have a lot of time or access to materials to make a better suited box, so something like what you built yourself would be amazing and super helpful, even if I had to take an evening to piece it together myself.
I have a 40K Games Workshop Imperial Knight that I have had for years. I bought it because it reminds me of the Titans from Epic back in teh day, my first GW boxed game i bought (yes I am that old). But here is teh thing. He is not built or painted, as I will never be good enough to do him justice. So listening to you Murray about the stress of painting your Chapter Master, stuck a chord. 👍👍So, what will happen with the Knight? My wife basically said, "Look if you screw it up, I'll buy you another one." Where ae my brushes?!!😂😂
It's wonderful to see you back on this channel and to know you've got enough space in your life to enjoy the hobby in your personal time too. Great paint jobs from both of you. Would just like to say that the hobby box looks incredible and I'd love to see you take the idea further, possibly with a more refined looking version as well as a cheaper lasercut version. As long as you don't go overburdening yourself! Take care my dude, and great video :]
First let me say that your space bears chapter. Has caused me to start looking into warhammer. And to get a starter set soon. To craft a sub chapter of the space bears. The paint job both you and Murry did. Came out looking awesome! In the variation of your styles. And that paint box is pretty slick. I'd say take a leap. And make a flat pack thin plywood version. To be put together.
Well done both of you.. Jazza, yes you get it, paint to your standard and enjoy it. I just backed. Looking forward to paint them for the ONE PAGE RULE set. P.S. Love the paint box, I will back that if you KS it... or sell it.
My dumbass has been watching Jazza's channel for 6 months now and didn't connect until today that there are not in fact two identical dudes named Jazza
Those are some stellar looking minis! I REALLY like the color and contrast in Murray's model, that's some amazing work right there! As for the hobby box, you could consider just selling just the plans. Printable format, so you can cut each panel either by hand, or files for CNC or laser cutter, depending on what you have available? If you include a BOM for the hinges, clasps and other materials you'd need so people could source them locally, that would really solve the issue of shipping.
Already supported (I did back with the original too, got it all!) and spread to all my friends. I love this project!!!! And amazing f***!ng paint job on both!!
Havingg seen Murray's work on other stuff I appreciated the style, but had didn't quite click with me. Seeing this new one now though it is phenomenally good and I love it. It's so evocative and interesting, and looks great to do. Given how I paint I'm not sure how I can capture something similar though.
So first thing, I think Jazza a did a great job with his Chapter Master. Second thing, can we get a longer form video of Murray painting a mini? He’s already a great paint guide but some of the jumps between abstract colours and more finished details were a bit jarring. It’s an awesome look and a bit of a deep dive on it would be appreciated.
God, the conversions you do for the space bears are so cool. It’s why i just can’t bring myself to care about the space bears minis. They stop feeling like a lovingly crafted, detailed take on space marines and start feeling like Space Marine Knockoffs.
Feeling the same way mate. I'm sorry for that, as they clearly put a lot of effort in their minis, and it shows... But the feeling is just not the same, and is made even worse by the attention to details they put into converting them...
Murray! You sick bastard, you did it again, that paintjob is amazing!!! Like, a real painting in a museum or in a Golden Demon diorama. 👏👏👏 Incredible!
A comment on the carrying hobby project container. If you would possibly raise the level of some of the top it would create a storage for some of those taller dropper bottles. It would peak like the top of a house. The way the wall folded up made me think there should be a space behind it utilized. Other than that, well done. Would I use it??? ... possibly. It is a seriously great product. I think YES, I would use it. Especially in the dining room, or living room, and even use it for dedicated minis until the are finished, all while still being in the hobby room. Sooo, ya .. well done! 👏 👏 👏
Wonderful video, it was awesome seeing your thought process through the entire thing and the love you put into painting it. Murray also did a splendid job, and whenever I decide to start painting again I definitely want to try my hand at it as well. The portable workstation is an amazing idea and has practically everything one would need. I find that my "station" is very much cluttered, and I have to have everything in boxes and stored not so gracefully cluttered together. I wouldn't mind looking into getting one of those if they were made, but I completely understand the logistical issues that might come up with it, you could probably do another Kickstarter or a separate video on it to gauge further interest, just in case, but it looks lovely, and a wonderful idea. I just also want to say, that although I am not super heavy in the hobby, "even though I have a leviathan box sitting in the corner of my room, and a starter kit's worth of Necrons in need of finishing" your Space Bears have inspired me, with their awesome designs and the idea of them, I one day hope to kitbash up some Space Turtles, based off of Leatherback turtles. Giving them a big shell backpack, and something with a purplish/black-blue color scheme with their own style of helmet. I love your Space Bears and thank you for the awesome imagination and passion you and the rest of Table Top Time have put into them, and thank you all for the inspiring content you all create.
in my mind I was always wondering why Murray's work looked out of place sometimes, but still familiar. turns out he paints his miniatures with dynamic lighting, in something that is basically a comic book style. which looks awesome when its in a environment that has something to simulate the painted light source, and visually jarring when placed somewhere with conflicting light sources. the explanation while painting gave me a better appreciation for some of his previous work.
Awesome job, I've been following the space bears for a good while now. Love the idea of the hobby box especially for visiting my local store and painting with friends, are the drawers modular or fully set.
The paint box would be awesome for people to get started and learn the process and reduce learning curve, especially if you were to include an instructional booklet. But for production, it could be done in acrylic. It's lighter, more durable, and almost as easy to work with. Plus, it can be cut on a laser cutter like the wood and you can now offer different colors for people. While I don't play warhammer (love the worldbuilding and watching people enjoy the table top) I would love having the box to assist my learning in order to paint my minis for other games, like d&d.
Also, thank you for all your hard work Jazza, and I hope your kids fall in love with these hobbies as much as the rest of us (many of which got into them because of you). Good luck in the future.
I think I speak for your fan base, when I say that we don't expect perfection in your art. We want to see you enjoying the process and being happy with the end product. This model looks amazing. Thank you.
I would love to have the hobby box made of wood for the aesthetic, but realistically speaking plastic would also be easier to clean. But it couldn’t be some cheap plastic, imo 😂, mainly bc i worry about it cracking and having holes, etc., and also bc i feel like the weight of the materials stored in it would cause bowing with some of the shelves and likely cause scraping, between the drawers, and the cutting board in its slot. But I totally want one, i dont always have space or time, and this would be perfect
I’m making a custom White Scars successor chapter and the paint scheme aim using is the same medicine wheel colors since these guys are inspired by the Lakota tribe and they use that medicine wheel too. I haven’t painted anything yet but i have an idea on where the colors should be. I’m also making the inspiration more subtle since I prefer a more toned down inspiration where if you know you’d know as opposed to in your face these are furry vikings in space vibe that the space wolves have.
Literally yesterday I watched the video the green stuff work on your Master from 2 years ago, spent 20 mins trying to find the paint video. What are the odds
I filled out the survey....here in Australia where we get a tiny trickle of the products made in the UK/USA and beyond, there is a massive need for folks who CAN make and sell awesome hobby products like that potable paint station to at least try to give it a go if they can. It is really sad that most hobby stores in Australia can't even keep products in stock, I am constantly checking if paints or other items I am after are back in stock...months and months go by without restocking so many hobby items...it hurts my hobby heart....and all of our hobby wallets with the Australia tax we pay on top of every product that does finally get sent here.

P.S. Love the paint box, I will back that if you KS it... or sell it.
Looks amazing! Glad you finished him!
The space bears are insane !!! So glad they have a chapter master now!!!
My dumbass has been watching Jazza's channel for 6 months now and didn't connect until today that there are not in fact two identical dudes named Jazza
Kinda cool seeing Ojibwe inspired stuff coming from Australia I grew up just south of red lake so I’ve seen quite a bit of their culture
As someone who's really interested in native culture. This makes me so happy to see!
So glad you painted this beautiful mini. It looks great
Super cool, that mini has a wicked vibe and a very nice paintjob
Already supported (I did back with the original too, got it all!) and spread to all my friends. I love this project!!!! And amazing f***!ng paint job on both!!
Love the hobby box!
thank you for inspiring me to create my own chapter too , the everqueen crusaders. i recently finished too my chapter master Ladon the everchosen
Havingg seen Murray's work on other stuff I appreciated the style, but had didn't quite click with me. Seeing this new one now though it is phenomenally good and I love it. It's so evocative and interesting, and looks great to do. Given how I paint I'm not sure how I can capture something similar though.
That hobby home is amazing.
Yeah Jazz get ttcombat or someone to make it so I can order one in the UK 😂
So first thing, I think Jazza a did a great job with his Chapter Master. Second thing, can we get a longer form video of Murray painting a mini? He’s already a great paint guide but some of the jumps between abstract colours and more finished details were a bit jarring. It’s an awesome look and a bit of a deep dive on it would be appreciated.
Love the box. Was working on one years ago... should get around to it again.
I just upgraded my kickstarter to the largest tier. This video got me so hyped up!
Murray! You sick bastard, you did it again, that paintjob is amazing!!! Like, a real painting in a museum or in a Golden Demon diorama. 👏👏👏 Incredible!
Murray direction is best direction.
Edit: Jazza that transport box is absolutely genius!
Sooo, ya .. well done! 👏 👏 👏
Murray I am so confused and amazed and inspired. I’m going to try this on a model and see how it goes. Very nervous but super cool
Great job! Also, thank you for sharing the Ojibwe medicine wheel meanings along with the painting!
Was fun to see this guy get painted .. and love the Valhiem shirt haha
Your custom hobby box has quite the smart design!
Murray is an inspiration. Great work!
in my mind I was always wondering why Murray's work looked out of place sometimes, but still familiar.
turns out he paints his miniatures with dynamic lighting, in something that is basically a comic book style.
which looks awesome when its in a environment that has something to simulate the painted light source, and visually jarring when placed somewhere with conflicting light sources. the explanation while painting gave me a better appreciation for some of his previous work.
Awesome job, I've been following the space bears for a good while now. Love the idea of the hobby box especially for visiting my local store and painting with friends, are the drawers modular or fully set.
Heyy from Bundaberg! Glad to see you enjoy our brew 😉
Love seeing the box again 1:58
Love the models, going to the kickstarter now! But if you guys make that hobby box in plastic I'll definitely throw down some money for it.
Jazza's cape texture looked really good!
The mobile painting setup looks really well thought out! How many hours did that take to design?!
Thank you.
absolutely stunning paint jobs on both minis!
Gorgeous work!
You need a foam finger amid the citadel paints in the bleachers section of your hobby case.
You didn't say it but a nice touch, those four feathers at the top ❤
Jazza, Murray and Oosan Ursa; the wholesome throuple we didn't know we needed.
Literally yesterday I watched the video the green stuff work on your Master from 2 years ago, spent 20 mins trying to find the paint video.
What are the odds
You guys are far too hard on yourselves, you made.... your own chapter, and chapter master, bro, whaaaaaa. And the painting was excellent
Omg, new favorite video, loved both stories!
Last light creative is a green stuff wizard. Definitely recommend checking out his tutorials and stuff. They're super easy to understand
